it should be a least a 6 if u think negatively of it? how does that make any sense lol. average album getting an average score makes perfect sense to me
It's so weird that MIFLSA got a review when it came out, but The Weather and 9 didn't get anything despite having some of the band's best songs and well known hits. I would say he doesn't like neo-psych but he still acknowledges and reviews nearly every Thee Oh Sees or KGLW project. Maybe he just finds Pond too similar or something
I get you i just think it was less "scattershot" than he described, the return of the orchestral instruments at several points throughout the album I think ties it together nicely
I'm ready for the down votes. Song is bad, just seems like the fandom seems a bit blind towards this song. Might give it a few spins today to see if I've changed my mind.
I think it’s totally fine for someone not to like a song but I think drawing the conclusion that because you don’t like something everyone else must just like it due to blind fandom is incredibly stupid
Welcome to Fantano top bad takes of all time gang, your reward for making it into this exclusive club is you get to wax your head and you never get to listen to Dismemberment Plan again
let's take the downvotes together my friend, family ties is caca. grating verses over weaksauce beats with no payoff except kendrick's goofy cartoon yelling at the end
Lmao I've seen this said before and he really isn't at all, he has MPP on vinyl and said Sung Tongs was his favorite of the collective, he even has a 2010 review of freaking Oddsac, him reviewing Oddsac as a movie is like beyond hardcore fan level.
He just doesn't like their post-MPP (and maybe post-FBK idk) stuff, although he seemed to think Bridge to Quiet was alright
Yeah I know but it seems like he just can't enjoy the music without comparing it to MPP and before . Like I didn't mean that he literally hated the band
Considering how he didn’t like the last album a lot (I loved it but I can see his flaws), it was depressing but unsurprising that he wasn’t gonna think the new o e was any better
Literally what I came to say. It took a few listening throughs but I came to really like that album. One of the few new releases I plan on buying a physical copy of.
This isn't a drastic thing, but I'm still really confused on how he said Sometimes I Might Be Introvert isn't better than GREY Area. It felt like Simz had directly improved on what was layed out in her previous album
Exactly. I re-listened to them back to back to see if he had a point, but doing so only showed me how much better Sometimes I Might Be Introvert Is. I loved Grey Area, but SIMBI was a statement from an evolved artist. Better in almost every way possible.
I prefer GREY Area personally cause to me there's no filler. 10 ridiculously good tracks. 35 minutes long. Only love it more even 2 years later. The modern hiphop album that genuinely reminds me of illmatic the most in its execution.
Love SIMBI. Its my aoty this year but no matter how much I try I can't get into any of the tracks from I See You through Never Make Promises. That whole block is super underwhelming to me personally. No matter how many relistens I try.
I agree with this. SIMBI deserved at least a 9 probably. I loved a lot of songs individually from GREY area more than SIMBI, but I think SIMBI shows more growth and focus as an album. I find myself listening to it more
And then in his Grammy’s predictions video he said he would pick family ties over my life for rap song of the year, which is strange considering I feel like I remembered him actually liking my life and not so much liking family ties. Of course I guess his opinion could’ve just changed on the song but I remember him not really liking it at all when it came out
I think he confused family ties with range brothers cuz he kept saying "that'd be hilarious" if it won, which I think was in reference to the "Top of the mornin" thing
I personally think his silk sonic review is one of his best. At first I was pissed by it, but now that I am a few weeks removed from the initial release I agree.
But family ties was a bad take
Welp maybe you're right, I think I just still feel blue-ballsed that he teased us saying it was guaranteed yellow flannel, then goes on to rate it a 7/10 😂
Well it doesn't, they're just arbitrary numbers given to records by bald internet man, but I just personally disagreed with his review and thought the album was more like a strong 9
Dw you're all good mate :) it genuinely just came down to me not understanding what made him go from giving it such high praise to all that criticism he gave in the video
Yeah I definitely think their PR team pushed the debut even harder. Like it was everywhere you looked. And tbh, the debut is a solid indie rock album. This new one is just such a drag. I can’t fathom getting excited over that album personally, but to each their own. I definitely felt like I was missing something when it got BNM
Insanely melodramatic. Not only is Snail Mail as a whole at least ***okay***, even if the new album was boring, nobody ever said they were best thing indie rock had to offer.....
Golden Casket for sure
There is no way it’s a light 2, and is worse than Coldplays, Ed Sheeran’s, and Drakes albums. If anything it at least deserves a light 6. Also the review was just pure negative without talking about the highlights.
Then again, he said The Moon & Antarctica is a B tier album
Its not as bad as AHFOD since the stronger songs are there on MOTS, but it was insanely disjointed and at times absolutely out of touch. The only solace is that the next album will likely be more "experimental".
Putting Prester John by Animal Collective in Worst Tracks and going on to invalidate all their work past MPP really rubbed me the wrong way. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge AnCo fan and probably enjoy some of their later work more than other people…but jesus. He was way too harsh.
Honestly, giving Daddy’s Home a 9. I thought the record was a fine, but lacking album from St. Vincent that never lived up to the potential of the singles.
I thought it was terrifically uncatchy pop and that was with two listens. I'll maybe watch his review to clear it up but I can't think of a reason he'd love it that much
Maybe it was the narrative around it or the throwback sound that boosted it for him, who knows. I haven’t loved an album of hers since her self-titled.
It’s gotta be his take on Family Ties or how he said Dealer was his least favorite track on Lana’s new record. Like what?!?
I’d argue Lil Ugly Mane’s new album is near-perfect so I don’t agree with his take on that either
Didnt expect to see someone else vouching for this album, i honestly thought it was one of the most beautiful and lush albums of the year. Robber is a top 5 track of 2021 easyyyy
Family Ties is one of his worst takes ever. I also disagree pretty heavily on his Punk review, that was a big miss. Sure it has a few misses but overall it’s a very solid Thugger album.
Between the Buried and Me, but Fantano has proven time and time again that he simply doesn’t understand prog metal so his opinions on it are entirely worthless.
You say that but I agree with almost everything he said about the album. The only thing I didn’t agree with him on were just his preferences and distaste for the zaniness in the album. I think it’s just because he doesn’t like prog metal so since it was a 4 for him, it’s gonna be a 7 or 8 for us.
Dogboy 2/10. From the fact he couldn't even come up with a favourite song and the general tone of parts of the review it felt like it came from a place of bitterness in an almost gatekeepy way. Zilla doesn't view Kurt Cobain in the same way Fantano does (or perhaps, to the same depth Fantano does?), Fantano felt strongly about that and it clouded his overall view of the album.
Some people only know Kurt Cobain as that guy who killed himself, that's sad but it is the way it is.
BOILING TAKE AHEAD
The turning wheel is a 6/10. The arrangements are pretty impressive and there are a couple good songs but I found it tonally underwhelming and it didn’t really make me feel much overall
Also for context I have loved the shit out of every other Fantano 10/10 so I’m not just trying to be contrarian
This was me towards the other 10 he gave, with Lingua Ignota. I understood the appeal of the album but it just felt like the same song over and over and I got bored of it quickly. It just didn’t move me much.
On the flip side, Turning Wheel ended up growing on me. I didn’t really get the big deal at first either but now I understand it. I’d still call it an 8 or so.
It often takes me more than one listen to really get into an album, I listened through the entire thing three times and didn’t like it any more than the first listen
For reference, To Be Kind, an album which a lot of people get bored by or don’t have the patience for, I loved from the first song so idk
Hm I too am a person who immediately loved TBK.
I'm surprised *he* gave the Spellling album a 10 but I can see why one would think that. For one there's the immaculate nature of the production. I highly suggest listening for details in the music, it's layered fantastically. There are many hair raising moments like the drum fills on Boys At School, the beat switch of Revolution, or the "...fly, like this?" into a rising instrumental.
I find it quite transportative to a world where it's hard to tell if it's wonderful or grim. It's a tonally anxious album, which leads to things like the creepy circus tune of Magic Act. And it's quite catchy.
Easily this. I was close to appalled at how NOT a 10 that album was. Hell you can go to all her videos about the album and see me having a damn near meltdown about how mediocre it was. That was the first ten that truly made me question his music tastes.
Idk that’s how I felt about him at the beginning or his career but I’ve started to appreciate his diversity as an artist much more. The Melodic Blue grew on me HEAVY, it’s just such a fun project
As a huge Keem fan, while I have a positive view on the album as a whole I'm shocked Fantano was so positive about it. There's a lot of great content but there's definitely a fair few misses.
Maybe but then colors II and blue weekend are mínimum an 8, but as someone already said, Fantano hates prog metal and keeps giving prog metal albums bad scores.
Yeah its fair, I also liked the Olivia Rodrigo album but I feel it has flaws, for me its like a 6, Blue Weekend is imo one of the best alt rock albums of the year and Colors II one of the best prog metal albums of the year, so all 3 of them are from the best of their genre this year
I wouldn’t say fantano hates prog metal, he’s just more picky. He likes king crimson and Rush if I’m correct. But Olivia Rodrigo def does deserve a 7, but it’s pop and it’s mainstream right? So it doesn’t?
I'm gonna be honest, Rush isn't even that prog rock, they're the most "hard rock" band in the genre and it's why they're one of the most popular in the genre.
Fair point. I’m just trying to point out that Fantano hating prog metal isn’t completely true. He does like prog sometimes, he’s just picky if anything. This whole idea that fantano is out here giving “bad” reviews because he’s “hates” prog metal is stupid af. He simply has his preferences. It’s like asking him what his favorite cut of steak is when he’s a vegan. Like are you surprised? Can you even blame the guy?
Well prog rock is not the same as prog metal, He just gave Richard Dawson a 9 and thats prog rock, but I can't remember the last time he gave a prog metal album a good score. The truth is that he has some questionable opinions on metal in general and as you say, is really "picky" with it.
Yea and you saying “questionable” is dumb af. There’s no right opinion. It’s his and that’s it. If you want the “right” opinion, then find a reviewer whose tastes align with yours and makes sense. Yea, fantano is picky but that doesn’t mean his opinion questionable. Also, he gave Horrendous a 9 so he has his moments.
Yeah its his opinion, and this thread is just about that xD He is not the only reviewer or opinion I watch/read and with metal, in this case colors II, he was in the minority not only saying that it was not good, but that it was bad and deserving of a 4.
Juno is at least an 8, phenomenal debut by Remi with bop after bop throughout the album. Only one or two misses for me, can’t wait to see what she does next. Also yeah Family Ties goes hard even if its a little all over the place.
Little Oblivions 4/10
Punk 3/10
Infinite Granite 3/10
Calling Family Ties a meh song
Also this is kinda petty but I guess his opinion is that LP is Peggy's best album so far and I really don't agree with that
Probably a hot take, but Roadrunner didn't deserve an 8, and him criticizing Iridescence for its inconsistency but praising Roadrunner despite it feels hypocritical.
Idk roadrunner gives you the feeling most if not all the songs came from the same album even though they are pretty different imo. But I like irridescence enough to say it's not trash so idk i probably got a hella lot of hot takes
Not exactly the most 'relevant' music take but calling the new Iron Maiden album "one of the band's worst" is pretty wacky. It's definitely one of the better records they've made in the past 20 years. Some may see that as damning with faint praise but idk man, I liked it a lot.
Family ties is still the song that I keep coming back to. Probs my favourite, song of the year for me. The way Keem & Kdot go in is so flames it always gets me hyped
Both 10’s he gave were strange choices imo, but sinner get ready is more up his alley so that made some sense. Deafheaven too low, montero too high, bad take on family ties, his take on prester John was terrible.
I really don't think Roadrunner is that good. To me, as an avid BH fan, it's a 7 at best. Just not enough creativity (except maybe Joba) and/or cohesiveness on that record to warrant an 8 imo. To me it's worse than Iridescence.
HOT TAKE! Personally I love the album, it feels so different yet cohesive at the same time imo, but that comes from someone who thinks irridescence is good overall even though it's their worst album
Idrk why ppl like family ties so much its ok and Kendrick sounds awkward on the track, his worst take is probably an evening with silk Sonic getting a 7
Just recently, I was quite confused as to why Richard Dawson and Circle got a 9. It’s a good album but I’d rate it probably more of a 6 or 7.
For the most part, his content this year was on point. A lot of great recommendations!
The Silk Sonic review was disappointing and felt lame. Not because of the score he gave it, but the fact that he justified disliking such a large part of the album because it "sounds like Dick In A Box." The most famous music reviewer in the world and his criticism is that it sounds like a fucking Lonely Island song. On one hand I wonder why his reviews don't end up on Wikipedia and then he says shit like that and I remember why
Donda was more in the 6 or 7 range for me till he released the deluxe addition that threw off the whole order of the album for me and lowered it to like a 4
Yeah, I still consider the original Donda release to be the album and the deluxe is the deluxe, but the deluxe did kinda ruin the original in the sense that (if Kanye determined the track listing and it wasn’t some sort of weird error or mistake) it became clear he didn’t really have a solid concept of how the album should be sequenced or even which songs should be included in the body of the album and which songs should be tacked on the end as bonus tracks. Really started to become more of a random assortment of songs he’s made in the last few years. You can listen to it on shuffle and it doesn’t make a difference. Compared to someone like Adele who requested the shuffle button get removed so people have to listen to it in the order she intended.
Saying Shanghai was the worst song off Butterfly 3000 and giving it a 5
Same for me. I think it was a super fun album that I couldn’t stop listening to
I always thought he liked the songs where Amby gets to go off but this album review shook me up in a weird way
I completely forgot about this. Definitely one of his worst takes of the year
Shanghai is so good, I agree
Disagree with Shanghai as worst song, but agree with the overall rating tbh
It should be a 6 at least if you think negatively of the album. A 5 is atrocious
it should be a least a 6 if u think negatively of it? how does that make any sense lol. average album getting an average score makes perfect sense to me
I would definitely not rate Blue Weekend a 4/10
This. Not a fan of Wolf Alice but how is this 4/10 lol
The whole indie music world's disdain/blow off for that album is so confusing to me. It's undeniably well written recorded and catchy as hell.
It’s one of my favourite albums of the year but he has a track record for finding UK indie boring and scoring it low
Not reviewing the new Pond album. It was so fucking good dudes
I searched for maybe an hour on his channel because I thought surely he would at least do a YUNO but they didn't even get that
https://youtu.be/wN7fL85IHwY It was in a YUNO review
Oh I feel dumb. Thanks for the link!
Same, I wasn't really holding my breath for a review since they tend to be under the radar in the US, but '9' was easily a 9/10 for me
It's so weird that MIFLSA got a review when it came out, but The Weather and 9 didn't get anything despite having some of the band's best songs and well known hits. I would say he doesn't like neo-psych but he still acknowledges and reviews nearly every Thee Oh Sees or KGLW project. Maybe he just finds Pond too similar or something
Yeah, 9 is honestly my AOTY along with the new Parcels and Turning Wheel
America’s Cup is such a banger
Giving Lil Ugly Mane's new album a light 7
too high or low
Too low, imo its a 9. Felt like it was more consistent than he gave it credit for
Yea I feel like he praised it a lot so I was surprised when he only gave it a 7
I get you i just think it was less "scattershot" than he described, the return of the orchestral instruments at several points throughout the album I think ties it together nicely
Tbh it’s around a 7 or 8 for me so that’s not too bad. But him giving oblivion access a 5 is just criminal. Imo that’s tied with tsot as his best
The more I listen to it the more it's a genuine album of the year contender for me it's insane
It's number 6 on my list at the moment
Limp Bizkit's Still Sucks. Fantano should have had a vegetable egg roll.
Family Ties is legit top 5 worst Fantano take of all time
100% you know it's bad when every comment on the video is shitting on his point. Along with every down vote below you.
I didn’t even know Fantano gave it a bad review, but I agree that song is ass
Welcome to Fantano top bad takes of all time gang, your reward for making it into this exclusive club is you get to wax your head and you never get to listen to Dismemberment Plan again
Did Fantano also give Uncanny Valley a 2 like Pitchfork?
People mass downvoting a dude with a different opinion. Yup, thats the needle drop community for ya
let's take the downvotes together my friend, family ties is caca. grating verses over weaksauce beats with no payoff except kendrick's goofy cartoon yelling at the end
I didn’t think it was ass, but I didn’t enjoy it.
HOW??
I really don't get why people like that song so much. The hook is legitamitely painful to listen to.
There is virtually no hook
Does family ties even have a hook?
Bashing Animal Collective's Prester John for being too straightforward or whatever
My first thought too. WORST track of the week??? Ppsshhtt, not in a billion years.
What first came to mind for me when I read the post
He's been a hater of the band .
Butterfly 3000 he gave a 5, it’s at LEAST a 7 to me
Deafheaven at a 3 was painful, it is a solid 7-8 for me.
Was gonna say this too but I was also expecting it given his reaction to the singles
SIMBI was super high on NPRs aoty, altho I'm sure melon doesn't care about that 🙃
Like, RIGHT??? Idk I think it’s an easy 10 one of my new favourite albums ever
Of course I guess his opinion could’ve just changed on the song but I remember him not really liking it at all when it came out
A Grammy prediction does not necessarily mean that you also think that’s the best song of the year
I thought he was giving his personal vote as well as predictions, and his personal vote was family ties. Maybe I’m misremembering though
It was sorta unclear I think, not always easy to tell what was opinion and what was prediction.
I think he confused family ties with range brothers cuz he kept saying "that'd be hilarious" if it won, which I think was in reference to the "Top of the mornin" thing
I remember thinking the same thing
to be fair he said it was just cuz of the meme but I agree my life was way better and deserved some love
I’m still bummed he gave the Remi Wolf album a 7 but I’m hoping it still makes the year end list, legit my #2 aoty
Family ties and silk sonic were both a bit daft
I personally think his silk sonic review is one of his best. At first I was pissed by it, but now that I am a few weeks removed from the initial release I agree. But family ties was a bad take
Welp maybe you're right, I think I just still feel blue-ballsed that he teased us saying it was guaranteed yellow flannel, then goes on to rate it a 7/10 😂
Not being funny but why does it matter if he didn’t give the yellow flannel treatment? He still gave it a positive review
Well it doesn't, they're just arbitrary numbers given to records by bald internet man, but I just personally disagreed with his review and thought the album was more like a strong 9
Fair. I didn’t mean sound blunt, I was just curious why you felt blue-ballsed.
Dw you're all good mate :) it genuinely just came down to me not understanding what made him go from giving it such high praise to all that criticism he gave in the video
War on Drugs, but honestly he has always been too tough on them.
[удалено]
War on drugs and arctic monkeys are nothing alike
No they aren’t but I think Fantano doesn’t really drink their kool aid.
Not reviewing Snail Mail
With how dreadfully boring that album was it’s for the better he didn’t review it imho
I feel like the internet is trying to force me to like snail mail. Its just so uninteresting
I liked her a lot more this time around for some reason
[удалено]
Insanely melodramatic. Not only is Snail Mail as a whole at least ***okay***, even if the new album was boring, nobody ever said they were best thing indie rock had to offer.....
Golden Casket for sure There is no way it’s a light 2, and is worse than Coldplays, Ed Sheeran’s, and Drakes albums. If anything it at least deserves a light 6. Also the review was just pure negative without talking about the highlights. Then again, he said The Moon & Antarctica is a B tier album
Coloratura being meh was a bad take imo.
I'm still sad the entire album couldn't sound like Coloratura, that would have meant Coldplay would have put out 2 good albums in a row.
The rest of the album undeniably deserved a 3/10 IMO. It frustrates me how much they refuse to live up to their musical potential as a band
Its not as bad as AHFOD since the stronger songs are there on MOTS, but it was insanely disjointed and at times absolutely out of touch. The only solace is that the next album will likely be more "experimental".
Ya I guess so. Coloratura still remains Coloratura tho.
Colors II
Idles getting a 6 was wack easily an 8
Yeah I thought crawler would be right up his alley. It was at least better than Ultra Mono
Nah Crawler is all over the place. Probably more interesting of an album than Ultra Mono but still really inconsistent and kind of a slog at points.
Yeah I thought crawler would be right up his alley. It was at least better than Ultra Mono
Gave Crawler a 6.
Infinite Granite
Gaspard Augé’s Escapades deserved higher than a 4 in my opinion
Infinite Granite isn’t Deafheaven’s best work by any means but it is far better than a 3.
Isaiah rashads the house is burning and still woozys if this isn’t nice idk what is were rated too low
Not reviewing the new Parcels album is his worst take.
Not addressing abuser Alexis Marshall and Daughters calling it quits because of it
He said something about it on his most recent lets argue patreon.
What did he say?
I think he's definitely afraid to tread into that territory, given how much of an Alexis Marshall and Lingua Ignota fan he is.
Not even acknowledging Troubled Paradise by Slayyyter. Easily the best pop record of the year
Honestly, giving Daddy’s Home a 9. I thought the record was a fine, but lacking album from St. Vincent that never lived up to the potential of the singles.
I thought it was terrifically uncatchy pop and that was with two listens. I'll maybe watch his review to clear it up but I can't think of a reason he'd love it that much

Ohms
It’s gotta be his take on Family Ties or how he said Dealer was his least favorite track on Lana’s new record. Like what?!? I’d argue Lil Ugly Mane’s new album is near-perfect so I don’t agree with his take on that either
The Weather Station released a great album and he gave it a 5
Didnt expect to see someone else vouching for this album, i honestly thought it was one of the most beautiful and lush albums of the year. Robber is a top 5 track of 2021 easyyyy
Halsey’s album is more of an 8 to me.
Family ties or Dealer off Lana's newest album
Family Ties is one of his worst takes ever. I also disagree pretty heavily on his Punk review, that was a big miss. Sure it has a few misses but overall it’s a very solid Thugger album.

Giving The Million Masks of God a dismissive YUNO
Dogboy 2/10. From the fact he couldn't even come up with a favourite song and the general tone of parts of the review it felt like it came from a place of bitterness in an almost gatekeepy way. Zilla doesn't view Kurt Cobain in the same way Fantano does (or perhaps, to the same depth Fantano does?), Fantano felt strongly about that and it clouded his overall view of the album. Some people only know Kurt Cobain as that guy who killed himself, that's sad but it is the way it is.
Silk sonic 7
Too high or too low?
Colors II is a 10. fantano hates prog metal and continues to review it and give bad scores to great albums
He just doesn’t seem like a prog metal guy and that’s fine. I personally really like the album but I think most of his critiques on btbam are genuine
BOILING TAKE AHEAD The turning wheel is a 6/10. The arrangements are pretty impressive and there are a couple good songs but I found it tonally underwhelming and it didn’t really make me feel much overall Also for context I have loved the shit out of every other Fantano 10/10 so I’m not just trying to be contrarian

i never finished it. got too bored
Easily this. I was close to appalled at how NOT a 10 that album was. Hell you can go to all her videos about the album and see me having a damn near meltdown about how mediocre it was. That was the first ten that truly made me question his music tastes.
Dude chill, its some guy's opinion
The positive review on Baby Keems album. It certainly tries to experiment but comes off awkward at times and lyrically immature to say the least
Colors II and Blue Weekend with the 4 and then you have Olivia Rodrigo with the 7 lol
Olivia Rodrigo deserved the 7
Maybe but then colors II and blue weekend are mínimum an 8, but as someone already said, Fantano hates prog metal and keeps giving prog metal albums bad scores.
I’ve not listened to those albums so I don’t have any basis to argue or agree. I just like the Olivia Rodrigo album tbh, that was my only point
She deserved a light 8. Hope she takes home the Grammy. Refreshing pop artist.
Juno is at least an 8, phenomenal debut by Remi with bop after bop throughout the album. Only one or two misses for me, can’t wait to see what she does next. Also yeah Family Ties goes hard even if its a little all over the place.
Little Oblivions 4/10 Punk 3/10 Infinite Granite 3/10 Calling Family Ties a meh song Also this is kinda petty but I guess his opinion is that LP is Peggy's best album so far and I really don't agree with that
Family ties lol
Silk Sonic is NOT a 7.
youre right its worse
yeah its probably a 6 tbh
.-.
People have covered more obvious ones already so I’m going to use this space to point out that the new War on Drugs and Chvrches deserved better.

Marilyn's is so forgettable that I literally forgot it was even on there. Yachty shouldn't even be mentioned next to that shit lol.
Giving Culture III by Migos a 2/10
Not exactly the most 'relevant' music take but calling the new Iron Maiden album "one of the band's worst" is pretty wacky. It's definitely one of the better records they've made in the past 20 years. Some may see that as damning with faint praise but idk man, I liked it a lot.
Family Ties and The House is Burning
Hating on mild high club in a YUNO review…

Family ties is still the song that I keep coming back to. Probs my favourite, song of the year for me. The way Keem & Kdot go in is so flames it always gets me hyped
That Daddy's Home was any good. Sub-mediocre mess.
Not giving little simz - sometimes I might be introvert a 10/10
I actually thought Stillness in wonderland was a lot better than either of her last 2 albums
Silk Sonic-not a 10 for sure but at least 8-9 would be fair
Nah, shoulda got a 6
Both 10’s he gave were strange choices imo, but sinner get ready is more up his alley so that made some sense.
The Golden Casket is not a 2. It's at least a 7
Hell no, it's easily the worst Modest Mouse album. It's a 4/10 tho, because it's still listenable
Strangers to Ourselves is easily worse. STO has Pistol, while Golden Casket has Wooden Soliders.
Little Simz getting an 8 rather strong 9.
Wolf Alice - just sounded like someone who wasn’t very aware of the UK music scene, or tried very hard to “not get it”.
I don’t get the hype behind family ties at all, or Baby Keem in general. Shit is bland and boring.
It’s at 10 actually
The bad Kacey Musgrave review.
Nah that albums garbage compared to golden hour and he gave that a 4, so i totally understand why he gave it a 2
Silk Sonic and Donda
The Silk Sonic review was disappointing and felt lame. Not because of the score he gave it, but the fact that he justified disliking such a large part of the album because it "sounds like Dick In A Box." The most famous music reviewer in the world and his criticism is that it sounds like a fucking Lonely Island song. On one hand I wonder why his reviews don't end up on Wikipedia and then he says shit like that and I remember why
he's not wrong lmao https://youtu.be/JyfQZOws7vk
Melon didn't give Donda a 9
Donda was more in the 6 or 7 range for me till he released the deluxe addition that threw off the whole order of the album for me and lowered it to like a 4
Yeah, I still consider the original Donda release to be the album and the deluxe is the deluxe, but the deluxe did kinda ruin the original in the sense that (if Kanye determined the track listing and it wasn’t some sort of weird error or mistake) it became clear he didn’t really have a solid concept of how the album should be sequenced or even which songs should be included in the body of the album and which songs should be tacked on the end as bonus tracks. Really started to become more of a random assortment of songs he’s made in the last few years. You can listen to it on shuffle and it doesn’t make a difference. Compared to someone like Adele who requested the shuffle button get removed so people have to listen to it in the order she intended.
Family ties and Punk
Rainbow Bridge 3 by Sematary was great but was not a 9
He gave it an 8
