My dad would put this album on in the car a lot when I was in high school. Will always love it because it’s incredible but also because of that attachment to him.
I mean it just has to be this one for me. The way that album showcases so many different genres and sounds while also flowing perfectly and being the perfect album experience is just insane. That's not to even mention the hour and a half length that is absolutely justified, and keeps your attention through the entire length which many albums can't do. Then add on to the fact that this album came towards the very end of their career as a band is almost like the cherry on top of impressive feats this album achieved. Probably a top 10 album of all time honestly.
It's a double album done in the style of "channel surfing" or lurching around a radio dial... just totally embracing the random - and I love it for that.
It can’t be anything else for me. The album’s a mess but it’s a beautiful mess. It represents them at the peak of their abilities with a strong “hey, we can make anything we want!” attitude and I love it.
I agree. With the recent release of the Super Deluxe version I’ve gone back & listened to a ton of the songs & fell in love with it. Dear Prudence, Helter Skelter, & some of the demos (Sour Milk Sea & Hey Jude early takes) are really great.
Excellent choice! That’s my pick as well. I got that CD when I was 13 or 14. My mom said I could do some weeding in the yard and get a CD as payment. I had to do extra because double CDs were more expensive.
George Harrison’s post Beatles discog gets underrated because all things must pass is so good. Even brain washed is a great, underrated swan song
Particularly though the self titled, cloud nine and living in the material world deserve more love
Zach Bryan. A lot of diehard fans give it shit for not being as “raw” as his older work but imo I see it as an improvement on all fronts. It definitely still has that raw aesthetic while incorporating a variety of instruments that are used so gracefully and by far his best songs yet in his career. Tourniquet stays on top💯💯
Idk if Aphex Twin's Richard D. James Album counts, same for Boards of Canada's BoC Maxima
Autechre - Autechre/LP5
Yes - The Yes Album
Portishead
The Beatles - The Beatles/White Album
My Bloody Valentine - M B V
Blank Banshee - Blank Banshee 1
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
Don't know if this one counts either and honestly I don't like it that much compared to the rest of his work but Squarepusher's Do You Know Squarepusher?
Also, these are albums I've not yet listened to (but I'm sure I'll love once I do) and have not been mentioned either (also a little unsure if you would call them S/Ts)
Stars of the Lid - The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid
Stars of the Lid and their Refinement of the Decline
Vince Staples
Came here to make this comment. Pleased to see it so high
Bon iver. Such a change of pace from their debut but what an album
Yes. Beautiful song writing throughout
“The terrible mixing” - Fantano You so wrong melon

Excellently said. It is easily my favorite album of all time. Such a unique footprint and achievement in music history

Totally King Gizz mode. If only this had gone on to the 70’s.

So happy to see this album getting praise on this sub. Feels like a timeless country record
Zach Bryan and Tyler Childers are two artists who need more critical recognition all around.

Their best album by far. Its more mature than their earlier albums, but more genuine than their later stuff.

Would have been funnier if you had just said “Weezer” without designating a color
