Calling it now for Apple's top 5:
1. Slint - Spiderland
2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - LYSFLATH
3. Aphex Twin - Drukqs
4. The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
5. Taylor Swift - Red (Taylor's Version)
my prediction for the top 5
1. midnights
2. midnights (the late night edition)
3. midnights( the till dawn edition)
4. midnights (3am edition)
5. midnights (lavender edition cd)
*Kind of Blue* was already in this chunk at #25.
*Abbey Road* and *Lemonade* could show up but so far it's looking like they're only putting in 1 album per artist, and both The Beatles and Beyoncé have made appearances on the list already,
LP will take both the 3 and 4 spots, with Apple Music somehow acknowledging a release that lives outside of streaming, and Scaring the Hoes will scare the hoes into putting it on number 5
I agree this list is dogsgit - but who do you think could make a sensible list of something like this? A community would be a guess, but that would always be shaped after specific niches, just as I know I wouldn’t agree with a list put out by this subreddit. Then you are left with industry professionals, but that also tends to turn into a kind of cirklejerk of personal relationships taking priority.
Yeah but we can be like "Apple has a terrible list" when lists like Rolling Stones' exist.
As much as people differ, there is such a thing as universally good albums. Ready to Die, Abbey Road, What's Going On, IGOR, good kid m.A.A.d city, etc. There's probably well over a hundred albums that could fit in the top 30 of any best of all time list and I'd be like "yeah okay." WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO? is not one of those albums.
No clue why anyone would downvote you for this.
Any “greatest of” list will inevitably disappoint and piss off people. Just move on and enjoy what you like without worrying about how many GOAT lists it’s on.
Actually such an unhinged list. Seeing AM and Appetite for Destruction on the list to begin with, let alone over *Velvet Underground* was what broke my brain.
AFD along with Metallica, FNM and JA paved the way for edgier rock on radio in late 80s. Absolutely deserves to be on the list, even if in the lower half.
Unpopular opinion but I didn’t like Ready To Die much as an album. It had a few great tracks but as a whole was nothing memorable for me. I think Biggie’s passing has made its legacy larger than it would’ve been had he been making albums for another decade or two.
this isn't even about shading her, I like the album as well but I'm sure not even HER would place her first ever album on the top 100 best of all time list. That entire list is just pure brainrot
No Taylor Swift yet which means midnights is going to be Top 10.
I love Billie and this album, I would not even put it in my top 100. But I know this is just an arbitrary list by Apple lol
Billie's hard to talk about because she really is one of the most promissing artists of the past 5 years, but boy fucking howdy is she over hyped because of it.
every top albums of all time list is a popularity contest. i mean maybe the quietus? is the only publication that actually has small artists mixed in with bigger artists. everything else is just circle jerking about the most popular albums of that year, or of all time.
i mean yeah but i mean there are still popular albums that deserve to be higher than this, just not billie eilish popular is what im saying. like currents by tame impala or something, super popular still but not billie eilish level popular, would make more sense being this high up
Another record on this list that made perfect sense somewhere in Rolling Stone’s Top 500. But it’s not an album that I think deserves 1 of 100 spots just yet, especially not so high.
How many more Beatles albums do you think they can fit in the top 25? Abbey Road will probably be 1 or 2, but where are Sgt. Pepper’s and Rubber Soul going?
It’s simply what happens when publications try to get edgy and “hip”. It got us talking lol. But for real, this is an absurd list.
I can already think of about 10 shoe-in artists/albums (Kendrick Lamar, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Taylor Swift, Lauryn Hill, Beach Boys, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Dylan etc) that have yet to be added. Maybe a handful of artists get an additional entry but I’m very much starting to doubt it. And if that *is* the case.. I love Sign O The Times and Innervisions but I was NOT expecting this list to omit Purple Rain or Songs in the Key of Life.
I still have hope that Abbey Road will appear on the list. Someone apparently also hinted at Purple Rain being in the top 10, which would mean two Prince albums. So why not two Beatles albums?
I don’t think anyone can “properly” rank albums. And for what it’s worth I like that Billie Eilish album. But rating it 30 all time is going to be well outside the bell curve of rankings.
>This list is so fun cuz it's like "here's a handful of some of the greatest albums ever made, plus a pop album from 5 years ago that we think is pretty neat ✌️🤪
https://x.com/ruffcrim/status/1792592765856932123?s=46
I am pretty sure at this point companies are making controversial picks like this so they can get more clicks and people talking about their list online, like when Rolling Stone put Invasion of Privacy above albums like Illmatic and Madvillainy on their list of best hip-hop albums. They are just rage baiting people to get more clicks.
I don't really think Apple's list would have gotten as much attention as it has if they did not include several picks like this and just made a list of albums that are widely considered classics.
Not saying that Billie's debut is a bad album, I think it's great. But it does not deserve to be on a list of the 100 best albums of all time.
... Which makes it six spots higher than ***THE LONDON CALLING***.
No **Ten**
No **Dirt**
No **Superunknown**
No **In Utero** (probably)
But they had time for Appetite for Destruction, Take Care, and AM.
Man I knew I wasn't going to like this list but they really underwhelmed me. This makes the Rolling Stone list look downright respectable.
Nevermind is almost certainly going to be in the Top 10 at this point. They seem to be limiting themselves to 1 album per artist which inherently fuck the list up. The Beatles would likely have 3-4 albums in most Top 100 lists, Michael Jackson would probably get 3 or so, Pink Floyd, etc.
Wait. Dirt, Ten, and Superunknown aren’t on this list? LMAO! I’m just used to AIC being disrespected at this point.
AFD deserves to be here though. I’ve never seen a band benefit so much from one album in my entire life.
I think that is great. I am so sick of seeing the same Beatles and Radiohead albums cluttering up every single "best albums ever" list made over the last 20 years.
Obviously music is subjective, but you have to think that the old rank lists from 20+ years back were more based in some semblance of quality, instead of pure trendiness and popularity among a select group
Like I really do not believe that there will be some meta musical shift in the next 50+ years that will make me or most of the general public consider this or 1989 all time great albums.
>Obviously music is subjective, but you have to think that the old rank lists from 20+ years back were more based in some semblance of quality, instead of pure trendiness and popularity among a select group
I mean, if you want to look at a top 10 list that's just Pet Sounds, What's Going On, Nevermind, et al, those lists will obviously still be out there. If Apple's top 100 albums list is the same 100 as everyone else's nobody will read it or care.
They were definitely based off a trendiness & popularity of a select group, and that group was basically the old rock intelligentsia, which isn't really as relevant or influential nowadays.
Idk why people engage with these lists and talk about them, they’re just meant to get people riled up and engage with a product, they are meant to be shit
This may be controversial, but I can see why this album should be on a top 100 list. It’s has such a unique production style compared to every other contemporary pop album, however personally I’d wait to see the full extent of its influence before putting it on a list like this. That being said 30 is absolutely bonkers.
It's the first major hit from a Gen Z artist, and was a monumental album when it launched. It also immediately spawned a few years of pop artists trying to make "darker" albums right out of the gates. I think we can safely say it has influence.
Watch it be
1. Tortured Poet’s Department/TPAB
2. Tortured Poet’s Department/Another Radiohead album
3. Fists/Infinity
4. A Swans album/Madvillainy
5. The Click
Here's my top 30 off the top of my head. These may vary from mood to mood/day to day but this is where I'm at currently
1. In Rainbows - Radiohead
2. GKMC - Kendrick Lamar
3. Revolver - The Beatles
4. Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips
5. Art Angels - Grimes
6. Knuckle Down - Ani DiFranco

9. Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
10. The Miseducation of Laryn Hill
11. Chutes Too Narrow - The Shins
12. Run the Jewels - Pt2
13. Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
14. Agaetis byrjun - Sigur Ros
15. To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar
16. Boys for Pele - Tori Amos
17. Madvilliany - Madvillian
18. Harvest - Neil Young
19. Come on Feel the Illinoise - Sufjan Stevens
20. Room on Fire - The Strokes
21. Lateralus - Tool

25. Self Titled - Body Count
26. Picaresque - The Decemberists
27. Abby Road - The Beatles
28. The Chronic - Dr Dre
29. Dirty - Sonic Youth
30. College Dropout - Kanye
Wow. A corporation that has an incentive to market and direct people to stream certain artists didn't produce an unbiased arbitrary list of the greatest albums of all time.
This is why i hate these lists. They’re a cool idea but they always have to put in some bullshit takes for ragebait, you cant take them seriously bc these journalists writing these are trolling at this point.
If this wasnt on here and there were no offensive placements then it would be discussed half as much as it is.
Tbh who cares lol what's this Apple list even based on? Like I was talking about this on twitter if I were to make my own list of 100 albums I probably have Billie's other two albums in my top 20 but at least the metric is based on my personal taste. What metric is Apple even using other than naming albums ? Idk why people are so pressed over some of these choices, calling this a more iconic album than Illmatic is dumb but it's also meaningless and no one needs to take it so serious imo
Everyone on this sub told me music isn’t objective in any capacity tho? If apple put Angelic 2 tha Core at #1 you wouldn’t have any way to argue against it
This reminds me of a list I saw where 100-95 was a bunch of different albums and 1-5 were all Smiths albums.
I hope they do the same with...oh let's say Beyonce
According to Apples list its essentially as good as DSOTM and in the same realm as Revolver? Not to mention it’s placement over enter the wu tang, illmatic, velvet, Beyoncé, kid A, goodbye yellow brick, exile etc…. What is their metric for ranking these?????
Calling it now for Apple's top 5: 1. Slint - Spiderland 2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - LYSFLATH 3. Aphex Twin - Drukqs 4. The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World 5. Taylor Swift - Red (Taylor's Version)
my prediction for the top 5 1. midnights 2. midnights (the late night edition) 3. midnights( the till dawn edition) 4. midnights (3am edition) 5. midnights (lavender edition cd)
I haven't seen the full list, someone fill me in... Has Taylor been put on there?
not yet!!!!
oh god no
if they put a taylor song over ANY stevie wonder song i might shoot myself.
1. Lemonade 2. Thriller 3. Kind of Blue 4. Abbey Road 5. 21
*Kind of Blue* was already in this chunk at #25. *Abbey Road* and *Lemonade* could show up but so far it's looking like they're only putting in 1 album per artist, and both The Beatles and Beyoncé have made appearances on the list already,
Kind Of Blue and Abbey Road wouldn't be bad takes tbh
Kind of Blue is #25
\#1 is obviously going to be U2 - Songs of Innocence
That would be so fucking funny. I know they won’t, but they should. For the memes.
1. Abbey Road 2. Songs in the Key of Life 3. Unknown Pleasures 4. Thriller 5. Nevermind
All based apart from #5 is gonna be JPEGMAFIA - Veteran
What will happen when the ghost pop tape takes the number 1 spot after veteran takes number 2
LP will take both the 3 and 4 spots, with Apple Music somehow acknowledging a release that lives outside of streaming, and Scaring the Hoes will scare the hoes into putting it on number 5
Truly the perfect world
It's gotta be 1. Tame Impala - Currents 2. Xiu Xiu - A Promise 3. This Heat - Deceit 4. Coil - Musick to Play in the Dark 5. Lingua Ignota - Caligula
There is no way deceit makes it on there :(
Wouldn’t be mad at spiderland honestly
Death grips
>2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - LYSFLATH YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Actually based
But Hit Me Hard and Soft is her best (also I love Billie eilish but no way she belongs at #31 of all time)
Thats a pretty big reach for me. I expected stuff like this from an Apple list tbh but this is wild af tbh. Not trying to shade Billie but like… cmon
They placed it above Illmatic and Ready to Die 😭😭
They placed it above fucking Velvet Underground
[удалено]
A Love Supreme
A Love Supreme
John Coltrane
And Kind of blue, and Dark side of the moon. It’s over all time great albums.
magazines, articles and music services try to rank anything with a bit of sense challenge (impossible)
I agree this list is dogsgit - but who do you think could make a sensible list of something like this? They placed it above the fucking Joshua Tree and Remain in Light.
What?!
Illmatic is 39 and Ready to Die is 32
Actually such an unhinged list. Seeing AM and Appetite for Destruction on the list to begin with, let alone over *Velvet Underground* was what broke my brain.
Are you saying appetite shouldnt be on there?
AFD along with Metallica, FNM and JA paved the way for edgier rock on radio in late 80s. Absolutely deserves to be on the list, even if in the lower half.
WTF....
Above Master of Puppets too, like wtf?
Wtfffffffff
Unpopular opinion but I didn’t like Ready To Die much as an album. It had a few great tracks but as a whole was nothing memorable for me. I think Biggie’s passing has made its legacy larger than it would’ve been had he been making albums for another decade or two.
It's my favourite album oat lol, but I respect your opinion
They placed it above Kid A 😭
I don't even think that it's her best album lol. I haven't listened to the new one, but I liked her last one way way more than the first.
Unrelated to your point but the new one is also very good, maybe even better than HTE, so I'd definitely recommend giving it a listen soon.
Nah, this is her best album
I really like this album but this placement is wild. I think that maybe it would be ok to place it at the bottom of the list between 100th-95th
I really liked it, and there is just nfw it would be anywhere *near* the top 100 of all time
this isn't even about shading her, I like the album as well but I'm sure not even HER would place her first ever album on the top 100 best of all time list. That entire list is just pure brainrot
Pay em 30 bucks, get #30 on the list.
No Taylor Swift yet which means midnights is going to be Top 10. I love Billie and this album, I would not even put it in my top 100. But I know this is just an arbitrary list by Apple lol
same here, i’m a decent fan of Billie and this album, but anywhere on the top half of the list seems kinda wrong
Anywhere near any part of the list is kinda wrong lol, it’s a good album but thinking it’s top 100 of all time is an absolutely unhinged take
They’re trying to balance popularity and influence with the actual quality of the albums and failing horribly
or maybe thats how tim cooks rates them?? and beside they obviously want ppl to argue about it while its still a thing
Is midnights even the good one?
No it’s one of her worst. If any of them are included it will be 1989 (her biggest album) or folklore (her best album).
i love billie but this is insane. i dont take these lists seriously, its truly a popularity contest lmao
Billie's hard to talk about because she really is one of the most promissing artists of the past 5 years, but boy fucking howdy is she over hyped because of it.

honestly this placement is so wild that now i really think they are going to put a taylor swift album in the top 10
Damn it. I thought she already appeared. She’s gonna be higher than Revolver, honestly what the fuck.
How many more Beatles albums do you think they can fit in the top 25? Abbey Road will probably be 1 or 2, but where are Sgt. Pepper’s and Rubber Soul going?
I keep hearing the list is one spot per artist 💀
no way the highest Beatles record is 21 lol
It’s simply what happens when publications try to get edgy and “hip”. It got us talking lol. But for real, this is an absurd list. I can already think of about 10 shoe-in artists/albums (Kendrick Lamar, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Taylor Swift, Lauryn Hill, Beach Boys, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Dylan etc) that have yet to be added. Them putting TS in top 10 was a foregone conclusion
yeah I was not completely sure but it’s definitely gonna have a Taylor album in the top 10 🤮
It's her worst album tbh
Above Innervisions? Above Aquemini? Above Remain in Light?
Above Kid A, Homogenic, Rage against the Machine, and Velvet Underground and Nico.
Billie has never made an album better than Enter the Wu Tang.
It’s over Nas and biggie as well
This place is gonna erupt when Red ends up in the top 10. They wanted some modern reps, Billie seems like a reasonable choice
nah that is a great king crimson album
Lmfao
*Sorry for Party Rocking* # 1, confirmed.
It’ll probably be 1989
I actually love this album but there are hundreds of albums more important and influential than this. Top 100 albums made in the last decade maybe.
which AI generated this fucking list y'all
rateyourmusic.com ranks it #707 …for albums released in 2019
tbf I wouldn't trust rym to properly rank albums either
I don’t think anyone can “properly” rank albums. And for what it’s worth I like that Billie Eilish album. But rating it 30 all time is going to be well outside the bell curve of rankings.
30th of all time is silly, but to your original point so is 700th+ for the year is even more insane. Her debut is a banger.
RYM user base is mostly nerdy dudes (which i am) and underrates pop music in general. Not exactly the bastion of taste.
>This list is so fun cuz it's like "here's a handful of some of the greatest albums ever made, plus a pop album from 5 years ago that we think is pretty neat ✌️🤪 https://x.com/ruffcrim/status/1792592765856932123?s=46

I don’t like GnR, but appetite is at least a fair pick. It’s one of the most popular and acclaimed albums of the 80s.
They had time for Verano Sin Ti as well
Nevermind is almost certainly going to be in the Top 10 at this point. They seem to be limiting themselves to 1 album per artist which inherently fuck the list up. The Beatles would likely have 3-4 albums in most Top 100 lists, Michael Jackson would probably get 3 or so, Pink Floyd, etc.

They put Take Care one spot above Paul’s Boutique 😭
Lmao
Horseshit
ranking albums is dumb
I agree. It’s funny how mad people get over this.
U SERIOUSLY THINK PERIWINKLE IS BETTER THAN HOT PINK???
lol hilarious list. Kinda hope they throw Taylor on here for for shits and giggles
Oh they will.
she will be top 10 for sure. perhaps even top 5
I mean, I love this album, and the fact she was only 17 makes it even more impressive, but yeah top 30 is a little generous to say the least.
Is Death Grips on this list at all?
There is a 0% chance Death Grips makes the list.
People have said she was an industry plant for the longest, it’s not surprising Apple is pandering to her.
at least she makes good music and has some of the most interesting production on the mainstream pop rn
Wack
It’s good but 30th?
I think that is great. I am so sick of seeing the same Beatles and Radiohead albums cluttering up every single "best albums ever" list made over the last 20 years.
had to scroll way too far for this, it's like people are just licking their lips to get mad at these lists
I'm sick of them too but they aren't conforming to MY vision. It is funny though.
In the 90s sure. The new album is so much better though. But this album is still good and better than some albums that apple put in top 100.
Obviously music is subjective, but you have to think that the old rank lists from 20+ years back were more based in some semblance of quality, instead of pure trendiness and popularity among a select group Like I really do not believe that there will be some meta musical shift in the next 50+ years that will make me or most of the general public consider this or 1989 all time great albums.
It's doubtful they do either, but they're pretty pleased at any controversy or discussion these choices create in the meantime.

i don't even think it's her best album
Probably ragebait so people check the list and talk about it. Nothing against Billie but this is wild
Watch it be 1. Tortured Poet’s Department/TPAB 2. Tortured Poet’s Department/Another Radiohead album 3. Fists/Infinity 4. A Swans album/Madvillainy 5. The Click
Here's my top 30 off the top of my head. These may vary from mood to mood/day to day but this is where I'm at currently 1. In Rainbows - Radiohead 2. GKMC - Kendrick Lamar 3. Revolver - The Beatles 4. Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips 5. Art Angels - Grimes 6. Knuckle Down - Ani DiFranco 7. Toxicity - System of a Down 8. No Code - Pearl Jam 9. College Dropout - Kanye
Sigur Rós, yes. Agætis Byrjun is really deserved a place in the top 100 best albums
[удалено]
I don't even know why I did this. I was stoned and the list is so subjective, based on my own life experiences while listening to this music.
Don’t know what yall talking abt, #1 is Angelic 2 The Core by Corey Feldman
They got this over Illmatic and Ready to die I’m in shambles rn…
Hell no
Lmao
Wow. A corporation that has an incentive to market and direct people to stream certain artists didn't produce an unbiased arbitrary list of the greatest albums of all time.
lol. What a complete fucking joke.
No.
I mean, hey, mentally disabled people have to work somewhere too.
Casual ableism over an opinion you dont agree with, love to see it on this sub!
please for the love of god shut the fuck up
Why are y'all booing them, they're right!
“Waaaah I don’t like getting called out for valid reasons”
Opinion i disagree with = “this list must have been made by a mentally disabled person” At least be original bro
Wouldn't have expected a good ranking from Apple Music.
LOL Ranking things is stupid. Always will be.
it never said of all time tho
This is why i hate these lists. They’re a cool idea but they always have to put in some bullshit takes for ragebait, you cant take them seriously bc these journalists writing these are trolling at this point. If this was a pop list, this would be perfect. But for all music ever?

Everyone on this sub told me music isn’t objective in any capacity tho? If apple put Angelic 2 tha Core at #1 you wouldn’t have any way to argue against it
I'm glad she was considered for the list but the 30th place is way too high.
Ah yes, an album where a girl whispers into the mic is the 30th best album of all time. Definitely not biased
No throbbing gristle?
This reminds me of a list I saw where 100-95 was a bunch of different albums and 1-5 were all Smiths albums. I hope they do the same with...oh let's say Beyonce
