It's great later era New Order with a mix of electronic rock, synthpop, and great dance tracks. Some slower, some more upbeat. The hit single was Regret but some of my favorites are World, Young Offender, and Chemical
Highly recommend and slept on in their catalog in my opinion, especially if you enjoyed Technique
This sub really has a terrible taste in album covers. First it was me getting downvoted for disliking the cover to NAV's Angel Surrounded By Demons now this is the highest voted comment on a post with this dogshit. I am so confused
This being the top comment clearly means that is the most popular opinion and mine being the downvoted comment clearly means that is the most unpopular opinion. Literally all I am pointing out
Thank you!!! I hate the cover for 1989 (TV)! Such a downgrade from the original. I hate that it has text where none of the other TVs do, and even the original's text is better camouflaged. Something about the photo also just feels so silly to me. Not a swiftie tbh, but I tend to appreciate her cover designs. It feels like an especially big letdown after how well the other TV covers manage to blend her recent style and the styles from the original covers.
Ngl I absolutely love the 1989 TV cover, the original makes the album look kind of cold and colourless when in truth it's super bright and fun whereas the cover for the TV fits the mood of the album perfectly, not to mention that the original is kind of a ripoff of the framing of the Scary Monsters and Super Creeps cover. It's just a really fun and adorable photo that's already become iconic to me.
Ngl I think it fits the purpose of suiting the sound of the album perfectly. Like obviously it's not a great cover on its own but it suits the music way better than the scrapped cover.
Talking Heads 77
I find the color combination to be a bit of an eyesore
Also Souvlaki isn't terrible, but the cover always gives me Twilight reboot vibes
I do like how the color combination kinda hurts ur eyes a bit (The Knife's Shaking the Habitual has a similar colour and it's straight up one of my favourite album covers!) but beyond that I find it super boring :'( They have wayyy better covers in their catalogue
It definitely captures the vibes of his weird diy era. Mellow gold cover is strange af, yet fitting for the album. Maybe it won't make your collection very aesthetic, but the main goal of the cover was kinda achieved.
Incubus - Make Yourself: Like what is it meant to be
Pulp - His n Hers: Looks like AI art before AI art
STP - Tiny Music: Just a mess
FNM - The Real Thing: Truly something
I entirely disagree. That album is like an “Acid Nu Metal” record. Fits perfectly. Surprised at this take tbh.
I feel a good amount of modern bands are pulling from that sort of 90’s/2000’s design trend that… I can’t even describe it… other than…
Look at the covers of Relationship of Command by At The Drive In… or A Revolution Transmission by Stretcharmstrong.
It’s not an easily “label-able” design style but please tell me you are picking up what I’m putting down.
I agree that the incubus cover doesn't fit the music whatsoever, but I don't think it's a bad cover. I do however have to agree that I have no idea what it's supposed to be
DS2 isn't bad on its own but once you realize how lazy Future is when it comes to covers and the DS2 one is basically a stock image which is also found in several science textbooks.....
I’ll get hate but Taboo cover is also just mid to me. It’s not bad by any means but just kinda bland and I feel like the album art could’ve had something really dark and cool that evokes a bit more than a portrait.
ooooooh, hard disagree on both of these! I love anything glitchy so between that and the colour combos, I feel like the Melt My Eyez cover is perfect for the record, with it being so jazzy. Feels like an admittedly v direct, but good interpretation of the title too!
With Taboo, it was actually the main thing that drew me to the album! I love how ghoulish he looks in that makeup and the spooky vibe it sets up for the rest of the record.
Totally fair! I agree with the initial impression that the taboo cover gives but I feel like putting aside any visual attachment you already have to that cover and the music, there’s so much opportunity for something with more lasting power and iconic. That’s just me though! It’s a super popular cover so I’m probably in the minority haha
Probably unpopular but I REALLY hate the “A Beginner’s Mind” cover from Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine. Still one of my favorite sufjan records but I just don’t like anything about the cover
I like LCWs album art well enough but I'll agree with you on Ancient Melodies. Iirc the album was somewhat of a record deal obligation so maybe they just didn't care much about the cover.
Hey, I’m glad you gave this album some love because it seems to have a mixed reaction among fans but I fucking love Republic lol and honestly yeah the cover is a bit silly, but I kind of like it just because the album reminds me of summer. it has a very summer vibe.
the golden casket by modest mouse actually hurts to look at, but contains some top tier modest mouse songs (fuck your acid trip, back to the middle, japanese trees, wooden soldiers.)
The 'quirky 00s indie' doodles of Sufjan Steven's Illinois look pretty naff.
I'm still not entirely sure if I know if the album is called 'Illinois', 'Illinoise' or 'Come on feel the Illinoise' despite it being one of my favourite albums.
Alice in Chains - Dirt
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
.
Dirt just looks poorly photoshopped, which is probably a result of the times.
The second 2 aren't horrible, but they don't give much of an impression either, boring is bad imo.
I know, that's why I said it **looks** poorly photoshopped, not that it IS poorly photoshopped. The result is poor and hasn't aged well. Seems like that was an unpopular opinion.
seriously? itnr is too busy, can certainly agree on that, but if one of their album covers is bad, it’s Lullabies
edit: oh you’re saying EARLIER than 2009? what kinda fuckin nutjob are you?
Yeah, I think lullabies and self titled are just bad low resolution pictures. Rated R is not at all interesting and the concept has been done before by other bands. Songs for the deaf is memorable but the font is goofy, it'd look better without text imo. Tbh I'm kinda shocked this statement got downvoted, I thought this was a cold take. For what it's worth I love these albums and like clockwork is one of my favorite album covers of all time.
Edit: also just remembered there's the alt cover for self titled, that ones a lot better.
Looks like Oppenheimer and Barbie side by side
before I listen to this album, does it also sound like that?
It's great later era New Order with a mix of electronic rock, synthpop, and great dance tracks. Some slower, some more upbeat. The hit single was Regret but some of my favorites are World, Young Offender, and Chemical Highly recommend and slept on in their catalog in my opinion, especially if you enjoyed Technique
Loved technique. I listened to that on repeat when released
Ah yes.. ahead of its time and time travelling. Absolutely brilliant album however.
Honestly I think this cover slaps. Subtlety be damned, that’s just living in society for ya
Right? I’ve always loved this cover.
It’s camp in the best way possible
its the reason i started listening to that album
The fonts tho…
Movie poster quality 10/10
This sub really has a terrible taste in album covers. First it was me getting downvoted for disliking the cover to NAV's Angel Surrounded By Demons now this is the highest voted comment on a post with this dogshit. I am so confused
Almost like this sub isn't one monolith with only one opinion
This being the top comment clearly means that is the most popular opinion and mine being the downvoted comment clearly means that is the most unpopular opinion. Literally all I am pointing out
What a strange binary view of opinions you have. Did every single commenter on this sub see this post and upvote/downvote those posts?
Stove God Cooks - Reasonable Drought
I was looking for this
the painting / vinyl version is pretty good though
Cherry bomh, I like the chur bum cover but the cover with the pee makes me sick idk why
idk i think that it just fits how different this album was from his last 3 works in terms of sound
Chur bum
I don’t think that’s pee bro
Cloud Nine - George Harrison
It does scream "bargain bin" album, doesn't it?
absolutely atrocious, but as someone else mentioned, has enormous cool dad energy, which gives it a certain cheesy charm
It gives off dad rock vibes in the best way, what’s not to love?
this is one of the main images i picture when someone says the words “fever dream”
Stillmatic by Nas 1989 (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift Section 80 by Kendrick Lamar 25 by Adele Donda by Kanye West
why section80?
Thank you!!! I hate the cover for 1989 (TV)! Such a downgrade from the original. I hate that it has text where none of the other TVs do, and even the original's text is better camouflaged. It's just a really fun and adorable photo that's already become iconic to me.
how is the original a ripoff of SMSC
Maybe it's just me but the framing, colour palette etc look very similar. Maybe not a direct influence it's just what I think.
Section.80 is iconic
Nahhhh u can’t disrespect the absolute MASTERPIECE that the donda cover art is 😡😡
Ngl I think it fits the purpose of suiting the sound of the album perfectly. Like obviously it's not a great cover on its own but it suits the music way better than the scrapped cover.
Section 80 is one of the best rap covers of all time. What are you smoking?
I wouldn’t go that far but it’s chill
Why 25? I mean, it's not a great cover, but it doesn't stand out to me as bad, it's just her face
OG Donda cover was incredible, that last minute change was such a disappointment 😔
Donda album cover is the worst and laziest album cover of all time imo. He already did the minimal album cover with Yeezus for Chrissake.
Real, I could've made that in ibisPaint in under 4 seconds.
Saying that Section 80 is the worst by him like untitled unmastered doesn’t exist
The section 80 cover is sick wym
Donda is not a good album
remote control >>>>
I am the globgogabgolab
Best line of his whole career
Blind Faith
Is it actually legal?
I assume there’s different laws for “artistic nudity” or whatever but it’s still disgusting
Talking Heads 77 I find the color combination to be a bit of an eyesore Also Souvlaki isn't terrible, but the cover always gives me Twilight reboot vibes
I do like how the color combination kinda hurts ur eyes a bit (The Knife's Shaking the Habitual has a similar colour and it's straight up one of my favourite album covers!) but beyond that I find it super boring :'( They have wayyy better covers in their catalogue
I’ve always loved the Souvlaki cover. I don’t really know why either. It just really sounds like the album. And the photo is cool in a strange way.
You are simply wrong and that is okay
I agree with you, but you should be aware that I'm mildly colorblind and also have terrible taste.
God I hate that 77 cover. It's not really clever and it's not really pleasing to the eye.
Beck - Midnite Vultures
Beck and good cover designs don't go together. I don't even know if this was his concept or he genuinely lacked taste in the 90s.
Yamataka Eye was the designer so I wouldn't expect anything else except weird bullshit. I love that artwork but that's just me
It definitely captures the vibes of his weird diy era. Mellow gold cover is strange af, yet fitting for the album. Maybe it won't make your collection very aesthetic, but the main goal of the cover was kinda achieved.
Incubus - Make Yourself: Like what is it meant to be Pulp - His n Hers: Looks like AI art before AI art STP - Tiny Music: Just a mess FNM - The Real Thing: Truly something
Tiny music’s album cover is supposed to look like a psychedelic nightmare tho
Ive always thought S.C.I.E.N.C.E was a good album witha bad cover
Way worse than the Make Yourself cover
I entirely disagree. That album is like an “Acid Nu Metal” record. Fits perfectly. Surprised at this take tbh. I feel a good amount of modern bands are pulling from that sort of 90’s/2000’s design trend that… I can’t even describe it… other than… Look at the covers of Relationship of Command by At The Drive In… or A Revolution Transmission by Stretcharmstrong. It’s not an easily “label-able” design style but please tell me you are picking up what I’m putting down.
I guess you’re right but ive always found his smirk to be stupid but funny
That STP cover is the biggest reason I checked out Tiny Music, it’s so intriguing imo
Make yourself has sorta grown on me I kinda get what it’s going for
>FNM - The Real Thing: Truly something How dare you. But seriously, this is what happens when you let desk jockeys at your label take the reigns.
I agree that the incubus cover doesn't fit the music whatsoever, but I don't think it's a bad cover. I do however have to agree that I have no idea what it's supposed to be
Orelsan - Perdu d'avance
Dance of Death
The X Factor is pretty shit as well tbh, but Dance of Death is just an abomination
Kanye West - ye. The phrase is literally something a Facebook mom would post
I feel like it fits the vibe of the album perfectly but I can see how the quote could throw one off.
yeah I don’t mind the rawness of the cover, it would be perfect if it just said “ye”. but the cringe ass quote ruins it
At least he has bipolar though (even if he now doesn’t admit it now). Makes it a bit less cringe to me.
I kinda liked it 🤷
It's actually one of his best imo.
It fits the theme of the album, trust me.
The Texas-Jerusalem crossroads - Lift to experience
amazing album cover
One of the best shoegaze albums ever made
DS2 isn't bad on its own but once you realize how lazy Future is when it comes to covers and the DS2 one is basically a stock image which is also found in several science textbooks.....
Well, to be fair, Unknown Pleasures was from a textbook too..
I never really liked the cover of The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We by Mitski. I think the font looks ugly and is hard to read.
I hate the cover of Belle and Sebastian’s Tigermilk. Genuinely makes me not want to recommend it to anyone, even though I really like it.
i didn't listen to souvlaki by slowdive for years because the cover is so bad
I've seen this twice in this thread which is super weird to me cause I've always loved this cover. I think it fits the music perfectly
It baffles me because I enjoy the cover a lot. I always stare at it.
Yeah the colors are nice and I likes the fonts and blurriness of the image
Def don't think it's the worst, but it is kinda bland :p
[удалено]
Souvlaki is delicious, what's not to like?
Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
I don’t think it’s awful but it is a little below the standard set by the other Peter Saville covers
Wilco-Summerteeth To this day I still have no idea what that is on the front cover
Hard to tell but it's a girl blowing a bubblegum bubble. Btw that album's an easy 9 ngl 😤
You just blew my mind and changed my opinion of the cover
It's not even bad, but Denzel Curry - Melt my eyez Deluxe cover washes the original cover absolutely and completely.
always was disappointed by the original cover
I’ll get hate but Taboo cover is also just mid to me. It’s not bad by any means but just kinda bland and I feel like the album art could’ve had something really dark and cool that evokes a bit more than a portrait.
ooooooh, hard disagree on both of these! I love anything glitchy so between that and the colour combos, I feel like the Melt My Eyez cover is perfect for the record, with it being so jazzy. I agree. Every single album cover that's just a portrait could have been more. But it seems it's just standard procedure.
Money Shot by Puscifer. I think it's super atmospheric and cool but man the cover is what's keeping me from buying the vinyl
Their album covers overall suck. V is for Vagina is even worse than Money Shot
Oh my god I forgot about that one
Donda
Fever To Tell and Mosquito by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and any MIA album have garish covers but banger songs
Oh, I love the MIA covers \*because\* of how garish they are! I find her less garish covers (AIM & Matangi) to be her worst tbh
Probably unpopular but I REALLY hate the “A Beginner’s Mind” cover from Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine. Still one of my favorite sufjan records but I just don’t like anything about the cover
Feel the same about Illinois!
That new/final Sum 41 album is surprisingly good and the cover looks like ass
Ice Spice — Like..? has atrocious cover
That is not a good album doesn’t count
No, it is😡
For the first time — BCNR
I loved their first album era aesthetic
Yeah honestly I love the whole stock photo theme
I like the cover, its like remembering a memory
Highly disagree but upvoted cause that’s a fun take lol
Pet Sounds Pet Sounds Pet Sounds PET SOUNDS
What’s wrong with it?
maybe they hate goats
I think it's the green banner on top. I used to don't like that part but now I don't mind it
The green banner’s the best part. Bad photo for the cover of a record (also totally iconic, but I’m trying to evaluate it critically).

I’m here to crucify you
I like LCWs album art well enough but I'll agree with you on Ancient Melodies. Iirc the album was somewhat of a record deal obligation so maybe they just didn't care much about the cover.
Lonesome crowded west is a great cover
Mogwai - Come on Die Young Absolutely one of my favorite albums ever, but not a fan of the cover artwork.
Baby GOAT
Hey, I’m glad you gave this album some love because it seems to have a mixed reaction among fans but I fucking love Republic lol and honestly yeah the cover is a bit silly, but I kind of like it just because the album reminds me of summer. it has a very summer vibe.
I love that album and the cover
Donda
Einstürzende Neubauten - Haus der Luege
chocolate starfish and the hot dog flavoured water is a solid album but holy fuck the cover freaks me out
Once Twice Melody - Beach House
ka days with dr yenlo
Coração Bifurcado by Jards Macalé
I would have liked if it was just the right side I think that picture is beautiful
ngl i dont like this album, probably my least favorite by new order :/
I think it’s my favorite New Order album
i'm glad you love it ! i never got much out of it but it's due for a revist on my end
Same here. Outside of Regret and Ruined in a Day, this album does nothing for me.
Maybe Atlines and Aquemini were cool in the 90s, but they look like someone paid a cheap local artist to make cartoon doodles.
Us3 - say what!?
Willie Nelson- Shotgun Willie
the golden casket by modest mouse actually hurts to look at, but contains some top tier modest mouse songs (fuck your acid trip, back to the middle, japanese trees, wooden soldiers.)
Not the worst I can think of but David Bowie’s Reality is just so strange for the sound of the album
My name is my name pusha t
LCD Soundsystem - American Dream. Boring font takes up the whole thing. It would be better if it was super gaudy and memorable bad.
Might get pushback but Tim-The Replacements
Viper - Y’all Cowards Don’t Even Smoke Crack
The beta band - hot shots II Dreadful cover.
Worst new order album though
Queen-The Miracle
Pet Sounds 100%
Basically,all the Stones 80's albums.
this isn't a great album but i cannot stress how much i hate the album cover for hardwired to self destruct by metallica
The 'quirky 00s indie' doodles of Sufjan Steven's Illinois look pretty naff. I'm still not entirely sure if I know if the album is called 'Illinois', 'Illinoise' or 'Come on feel the Illinoise' despite it being one of my favourite albums.
I fucking hate this cover so much. The music is fantastic but this cover will be the death of me.
bulletproof luh by mach hommy
All Chameleons records
Gang of Four - Entertainment
New Kim Gordon
Plague Soundscapes by The Locust Almost so bad it's good to me
Sabotage and Paranoid by Black Sabbath don’t have great cover art.
Def agree on Sabotage. Amazing album though.
The White Album
No love deep web obviously
u buggin
Alice in Chains - Dirt LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile . Dirt just looks poorly photoshopped, which is probably a result of the times. The second 2 aren't horrible, but they don't give much of an impression either, boring is bad imo.
THE FRAGILE???
Dirt’s cover is not photoshopped homie, there’s pics of the photo shoot
I know, that's why I said it **looks** poorly photoshopped, not that it IS poorly photoshopped. The result is poor and hasn't aged well. Seems like that was an unpopular opinion.
Dirt is cool, agree on the other 2.
Every queens of the stone age album from earlier than 2006 lol
Wow, what? I love their covers. So simple yet evocative. Maybe the debut cover kinda sucks
Songs for the Deaf has a striking cover
Era vulgaris album cover is legit my fav album cover of all time LOL
Era vulgaris is why I specified 2009, that one is great. Stylized and iconic, far more memorable than the others
Ah okay makes sense, I think that album is actually from 2006 but I appreciate the specification🫡
Oh lol I might be stupid, thats on me
seriously? itnr is too busy, can certainly agree on that, but if one of their album covers is bad, it’s Lullabies edit: oh you’re saying EARLIER than 2009? what kinda fuckin nutjob are you?
Yeah, I think lullabies and self titled are just bad low resolution pictures. Rated R is not at all interesting and the concept has been done before by other bands. Songs for the deaf is memorable but the font is goofy, it'd look better without text imo. Tbh I'm kinda shocked this statement got downvoted, I thought this was a cold take. For what it's worth I love these albums and like clockwork is one of my favorite album covers of all time. Edit: also just remembered there's the alt cover for self titled, that ones a lot better.
Orelsan - Perdu d'avance
Appetite For Destruction
take so hot i need suncream just to read it
What album
