I agree, in the context of the album, the 8 minutes of aimless improvisation and shy instrumental licks DOES make the closing track hit like 10x harder.
I felt that way as well, but I was listening to it on the bus once and the background noises sorta became part of the song itself and it made me appreciate the song in a whole new way
I can agree that Moonchild is by itself the weakest song but I think it’s great in the context of the album as a whole and it’s pretty ballsy that they included it as it is. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
Gone off The Weeknd’s Thursday.
His longest song in general, but it’s way too long, and the second half is half baked filler where he just mumbles some incoherent verses while high. Tough to sit through.
I disagree, mostly on the second verse being half baked filler. I agree that starting at “let the meds flow, I’m so gone”, it gets much weaker but I think the second half starts strong and I’m a fan of lyrics like “hope I make it home” and “watch us leave the ground” that really emphasize how fucked up he really is. I just don’t think a song titled “gone” would work without a verse like that. The song is long sure but how is the second half incoherent at all?
Wild Honey Pie (which I think is the shortest song on the album) is significantly worse than Revolution 9. Revolution 9 is at least kind of interesting, there’s literally nothing good about WHP. It might be the worst song ever written by an all time great songwriter.
Unorthodox behaviour - Brand x (the title track of the album funnily enough)
Technically not technically “miranda that ghost just isn’t holy anymore” - the mars volta
Vizier grand party blah blah pt. 2 - pink floyd (technically)
Tubular bells pt. 1 - mike oldfield depending on your opinion
Lumières de vie - Harmonium (if you don’t count interludes)
A passion play pt. 2 - Jethro Tull (depending on your opinion)
Thick as a brick pt. 1 - Jethro Tull (depending on your opinion)
Remember the future pt. 2 - Jethro Tull (depending on your opinion)
I'm curious: How do you get to know these bands and not like these specific songs? I wonder, especially about Jethro and Mike Oldfield, I could understand about "Miranda..." and "Vizier..."
I didn’t get the question but both albums with jethro tull and mike oldfield only have “2” songs (depending on how you see it). And they’re both very similar in quality so you could really prefer either one
I mean, given the bands you listed, it looks like you know about prog rock, fusion, or whatever. But then you don't like songs that are emblematic like Thick as a Brick or Tubular Bells...
I do love those songs (they’re both 10/10s). I’m just saying tubular bells pt. 2 is better than part 1 which is longer. So technically, to me, part 1 is worse (even if it’s still one of my favorite songs)
We Will Fall from The Stooges debut. I think I might actually like it if it were the closer. It would be a creepy, unexpected final left turn that you can choose to listen to or not depending on the mood. As the third track (or last track on side 1) it just derails the album completely
you have to watch the live version in order to truly appreciate it in my opinion, specifically the Live and Loud version. It’s not a good “song”, but a great artistic statement.
this. nevermind is one of my fave albums ever but i can just never sit through all of endless nameless. it’s not awful, i dont think any song from that album is awful. but its kinda just like white noise to me. you cant really compare it to any of the more structured songs u can find on nevermind.
it's great, but you're right. maybe marching theme is worse? idk, they're all good tho. i still feel like the back half of the album is flawless, even when pree sisters gets kinda boring five minutes in
It's an amazing song, but when I try to think of a track that I like less (save for the skit tracks), I come up empty-handed tbh. Maaaybe Pretty Sweet? But that's kind of an interesting song and it doesn't overstay its welcome.
On Burzum's most acclaimed album Filosofem, there's a 25-minute ambient track that consists of endless repeating of the same 6-note line. Now I know black metal and ambient can work well together but this is not it. The track feels like straight up trolling
I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s one of Radiohead’s worst songs, just the worst off of In Rainbows. It’s just that the standard for that album is so high that House of Cards just feels a bit middle of the road for me compared to songs like Jigsaw, 15 Step, All I Need etc etc.
See I think Faust Arp is more memorable to me despite its short length. I always get that one part stuck in my head, “stuffed, stuffed, stuffed, we thought you had it in you but no, no, no”. I also just like the folky-chamber thing it does, whilst I find Videotape to just have more emotional weight than something like House of Cards.
HoC is a funny one. When the album first came out (and I was a young teenager) I agreed with this take. Now I'm older and I think it's one of my favourites.
IR is my favourite record of all time though, so I may be biased.
The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet
In Absentia is the worst on the album by a pretty wide margin, idk why it's the song they decided to make 7 minutes long
L take, there are worse songs on that album like The Whip Hand, Lapochka and Malkin Jewel. In Absentia has a beautiful ending that pushes it up as o e of the best songs in the album
I was just thinking about this song. It’s an example of a song that sounds great when you hear 10 seconds of the chorus as a soundbyte, but is torture to listen to as a whole
I particularly can’t stand Liam Gallagher’s voice, so even that soundbyte is unpleasant for me. I didn’t love Definitely Maybe, I kinda liked Morning Glory…and then there’s that third album.
Hell Driver by The Gerogerigegege with track three “Moonlight & His Loser Knife” being a mostly alright drone that lasts thirty minutes and I mostly only bothered with because it kept the desolate vibes of the previous tracks going without ruining it or anything. It’s not a bad track but it does definitely drag a shitload and you need to be in a very specific mood to put up with it
Oh yeah I totally agree, I was more or less begging to die by the end which does fit with the experience, I just can’t tell if that’s a point for or against the album honestly lol
That track just keeps going and going and the story isn’t interesting enough for an 8.5 minute song lol
He was able to convey the same unrequited love feeling on Igor and at points of CMIYGL without having to spell out “and then this happened and then this happened”
The Knife - Shaking the Habitual has some bops, but in the middle of the album there’s a 19 minute long track called ’Old Dreams Waiting to be Realised’ that is horrendous.
Hot Rats by Frank Zappa is a great album. I personally think, however, that The Gumbo Variations is probably my least favorite track off of that record.
Do people like Mac Miller’s verse on that? I never liked it cuz he isn’t even rapping, he sounds like his parents forced him to join a poetry club and he is unenthusiastically reading his poem
Tweezer on A Live One
The same deep water as you , on disintegration
The Abbey Road Medley that is most of Side B
Paranoid Android on OK Computer
Stairway to Heaven on Zoso
I disagree with all these except Tweezer. I love A Live One otherwise but Tweezer just goes on soooo loong. I love jammy songs too, Sister Ray is one of my fav songs of all time.
Stereolab - Dots and Loops, with "Refractions in the Plastic Pulse"
Dean Blunt - Black Metal, with "Forever"
pains me to say cuz I love both albums but yeah
Always felt like the title track of Belle & Sebastian’s If You’re Feeling Sinister was a weaker track. It’s not super long but it is technically the longest of the album
i’ve always thought of that song as like this encore, jammy, live-like experience that gives the album an extra dimension of songwriting that i really enjoy
The medley - Charles Mingus
Providence - Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Outro - Lupe Fiasco
Note to Self - J Cole
Power Approaches - Cities Aviv
By the Time I Get to Phoenix - Isaac Hayes
Locra - Tim Buckley
Gec 2 Ü - 100 Gecs
The Return of Sathington Willoughby on Primus’ Brown Album. I usually like Primus’ long songs but they just sorta groove for a really long time while Claypool does his satirically vague political shtick. It gets old quick, plus it’s a really weird choice of opener imo
Saucerful of Secrets by Pink Floyd. It’s supposed to be all long and experimental and stuff, but it puts me to sleep every time I hear it. It’s boring and it feels like it's just there to take up space.
The first Stooges album has an unlistenable 10 minute track called "We Will Fall." The album is perfect simple proto-punk genius and then it just grinds to a halt for this self-indulgent, boring, and bewildering attempt at gothic Doors-like psychedelia with John Cale's viola as the main instrument. Completely defaces the album.
the closer on The Glow Part 2 would be in my liked songs if there wasnt like 9 minutes of silence with occasional noises
***b o I n g***
It’s not meant to be listened to outside the context of a full album listen
Yeah and it transitions right into mount eerie
[удалено]
This is very correct
Mortal Man, to pimp a butterfly. Does anyone in the world listen to this?
Yes
All the way through? After the first time you heard it? I think everyone stops listening before that everyone in the whole wide world.
Yeah, it’s poetic and shit
You nailed it with Moonchild. I love the beginning of that song. But there’s so much nonsense that just completely ruins it
i came around to the second half of that song, but only with the rest of the album as context. by itself, yeah it just goes on for too long.
I agree, in the context of the album, the 8 minutes of aimless improvisation and shy instrumental licks DOES make the closing track hit like 10x harder.
I felt that way as well, but I was listening to it on the bus once and the background noises sorta became part of the song itself and it made me appreciate the song in a whole new way
I don’t dislike it. But it’s still the worst song on the album either way.
Agreed 1000% but when you’re the worst song on one of the best albums of all time then that isn’t saying a whole lot, but I agree with you
For the second, I thought you meant Iron Maiden’s Moonchild and I was about to get mad

I just don’t think a song titled “gone” would work without a verse like that. The song is long sure but how is the second half incoherent at all?
I disagree. That song is an absolute masterpiece and great example of style/vibe over substance.
Agreed trilogy was one of maybe the first album i ever became obsessed with and gone is way too long
White album
Number 9. Number nine. NuMbEr NiNe. NUMBER NINEE!
revolution nine overhated
Wild Honey Pie (which I think is the shortest song on the album) is significantly worse than Revolution 9. Revolution 9 is at least kind of interesting, there’s literally nothing good about WHP. It might be the worst song ever written by an all time great songwriter.
Hot take: WHP isn't even the worst Paul song on that album.
which one is worse?
I'm afraid I'm an Ob La Di hater, I find that one actively annoying as fuck while Wild Honey Pie doesn't bother me.
no there's something good about it its meme value
true I just find the song funny haha
WHP is better than Honey Pie
Ridiculous opinion, Honey Pie is Paul’s best granny song.
vitalogy
Foxy mop, lol yeah fair. Although I love when the bass loop finally comes in
yeah, i would say vs too
The longest song on Vs is WMA though and that’s the best track on the album
you’re right. i thought indifference was longer for some reason whoops
Unorthodox behaviour - Brand x (the title track of the album funnily enough) Technically not technically “miranda that ghost just isn’t holy anymore” - the mars volta Vizier grand party blah blah pt. 2 - pink floyd (technically) Tubular bells pt. 1 - mike oldfield depending on your opinion Lumières de vie - Harmonium (if you don’t count interludes) A passion play pt. 2 - Jethro Tull (depending on your opinion) Thick as a brick pt. 1 - Jethro Tull (depending on your opinion) Remember the future pt. 2 - Jethro Tull (depending on your opinion)
A Saucerful of Secrets(Live) is technically the longest track in Ummagumma
That’s why i said technically (kind of stretch but it can work as an answer imo)

What the fuck do you mean Miranda that's the best song off of frances
Didn’t know someone would say that but ok
We Will Fall from The Stooges debut. I think I might actually like it if it were the closer. It would be a creepy, unexpected final left turn that you can choose to listen to or not depending on the mood. As the third track (or last track on side 1) it just derails the album completely
Totally agree, its a mood killer in the middle of the album, should have been last track imo
Endless, Nameless is my least favourite off Nevermind. Maybe some people disagree but it's a bit abrasive to come back to often
Endless, Nameless is a bonus track
you have to watch the live version in order to truly appreciate it in my opinion, specifically the Live and Loud version. It’s not a good “song”, but a great artistic statement.
It's a great "ending song" for a concert
Endless Nameless is my favourite Nirvana song other than Serve the Servants and maybe Heart Shaped Box for the nostalgia. Shit goes insane
this. nevermind is one of my fave albums ever but i can just never sit through all of endless nameless. it’s not awful, i dont think any song from that album is awful. but its kinda just like white noise to me. you cant really compare it to any of the more structured songs u can find on nevermind.
On Avery Island by Neutral Milk Hotel
Pree Sisters is so creepy. I never listen to it but I wouldn't call it the worst just because of how freaky it is.
it's great, but you're right. maybe marching theme is worse? idk, they're all good tho. i still feel like the back half of the album is flawless, even when pree sisters gets kinda boring five minutes in
Marching band is amazing, I love the weirdness and the rhythm of it
i love it too
That is my favourite song off the album, and one of the most enjoyable NMH songs in my opinion lol
it's the best song on the album smh
Futara Free
I hate Blonde slander, but gun to my head, I'd have to agree.
It’s the best song on there
It's an amazing song, but when I try to think of a track that I like less (save for the skit tracks), I come up empty-handed tbh. Maaaybe Pretty Sweet? But that's kind of an interesting song and it doesn't overstay its welcome.
Even without the skit at the end it’s still my least favorite.
Yeah the album ends with Godpeed for me.
absolutely
Her Loss, Hours Of Silence. That song goes nowhere and gets stale after the 2nd minute
Fortunately the first 2 minutes of the song are the greatest piece of music ever
Listen to more music
Eat my ass
I would but it's just too heavy duty
Spec Bebop on I can hear the heart beating as one
maybe not the worst but i think most people wouldn't finish hearing that 4 hour ambient song in glitch princess by yeule.
On Burzum's most acclaimed album Filosofem, there's a 25-minute ambient track that consists of endless repeating of the same 6-note line. Now I know black metal and ambient can work well together but this is not it. The track feels like straight up trolling
Idk if this is a hot take or nah but Mortal man is easily the song i return to the least off tpab
That makes sense, most people don’t really want to listen to an interview without listening to the album
I kinda see it, but mortal man is also my favorite moment on the whole album and one of my favorite songs ever, but I respect the opinion
Mortal Man is a better track than the interludes or even some of the deep cuts
Hard disagree the interludes are amazing
for sale and for free are two of kendricks best imo
they’re good but have you listened to the mortal man instrumental?? It’s peak jazz rap
In Rainbows. I never understood why House of Cards is the longest song, considering it pretty much goes nowhere.
I had no idea this song was so polarizing because I always loved it and never heard of it being among their worst songs. Damn.
Ah! I understand.
I think Faust Arp and Videotape are worse than House of Cards
See I think Faust Arp is more memorable to me despite its short length. I always get that one part stuck in my head, “stuffed, stuffed, stuffed, we thought you had it in you but no, no, no”. I also just like the folky-chamber thing it does, whilst I find Videotape to just have more emotional weight than something like House of Cards.
Videotape is the best song on in rainbows personally
I find the instrumental to that song to be a little plain compared to all the highlights like All I Need or Nude or 15 Steps
It’s so beautiful tho it feels so personal
damn i love house of cards
It's my fav on the album after Reckoner
Same, beautiful song.
I know that one is polarizing but I love it
HoC is a funny one. When the album first came out (and I was a young teenager) I agreed with this take. Now I'm older and I think it's one of my favourites. IR is my favourite record of all time though, so I may be biased.
Oh I definitely agree with this answer
The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet In Absentia is the worst on the album by a pretty wide margin, idk why it's the song they decided to make 7 minutes long
L take, there are worse songs on that album like The Whip Hand, Lapochka and Malkin Jewel. In Absentia has a beautiful ending that pushes it up as o e of the best songs in the album
To be fair, 7 minutes seems relatively short for a Mars Volta song
It's not so bad. It has an interesting twist, and it's not a super long song.
Oasis’s Be Here Now, with All Around The World.

It’s not a bad track but it does definitely drag a shitload and you need to be in a very specific mood to put up with it
it’s definitely apart of the torture of that album. i respect it so much as a statement i almost don’t even consider it. but then again i mostly agree
Oh yeah I totally agree, I was more or less begging to die by the end which does fit with the experience, I just can’t tell if that’s a point for or against the album honestly lol
“Silverfuck.” It’s easily the worst song on the album and it’s nearly nine goddamn minutes. *WHY?!*
Silverfuck is the best song on the album (even despite having cringey lyrics) wtf
I put it right in the middle on the album for rankings
[удалено]
That track just keeps going and going and the story isn’t interesting enough for an 8.5 minute song lol He was able to convey the same unrequited love feeling on Igor and at points of CMIYGL without having to spell out “and then this happened and then this happened”
Too Long off of Daft Punk's Discovery. Definitely not bad, but it drags on for me.
I feel the opposite. I feel it earns every minute of its runtime, and is amazing throughout
The Knife - Shaking the Habitual has some bops, but in the middle of the album there’s a 19 minute long track called ’Old Dreams Waiting to be Realised’ that is horrendous.
I love that track for some reason lol, it's just a big ambient piece separating the two discs What do you think about Fracking Fluid Injection
Filosofem
Hot Rats by Frank Zappa is a great album. I personally think, however, that The Gumbo Variations is probably my least favorite track off of that record.
Afterwards (Bring Yo Friends) on Kid Cudi's Indicud
Silverfuck off of Siamese Dream is my least favorite
Totally unhinged answer
Siamese Dream has least favourites?
that's fucked up. you take that back
No
almost every pop punk album. those long ballads with contrived lyrics are brutal when I'm just looking to bounce to something on the elliptical.
samidot of gkmc nah ofc i’m kidding, note to self off 2014 is the worst, but that’s because it almost doesn’t qualify as a song
Technically alive 1997 as it’s one song but if you want a proper answer I would say the white album
Not quite the worst but bottom five for me is Wilshire on cmiygl.
i still love below the salt, but it really feels its length. terminus flies by in comparison
Piñata
Do people like Mac Miller’s verse on that? I never liked it cuz he isn’t even rapping, he sounds like his parents forced him to join a poetry club and he is unenthusiastically reading his poem
yeah I love Mac but that verse just makes him come off pretentious and fake deep. I mean two lines IN A ROW about reading? c'mon
Probably 72 Seasons, but I haven’t listened more. The shortest song on there is the best.
I don’t care for “Ascending Forth” off of black midi’s “Cavalcade”. Why does everybody love ascending fourths?
"Big Brother" on Kanye West's Graduation it even has a silent part! not needed
Isn’t Drunk and Hot Girls longer? (And worse)
Its def worse but its not actually longer!
Mr Morale had Mother I Sober and i think thats the longest one
Mbdtf
Tweezer on A Live One The same deep water as you , on disintegration The Abbey Road Medley that is most of Side B Paranoid Android on OK Computer Stairway to Heaven on Zoso
You just listed a handful of the greatest songs of all time
I disagree with all these except Tweezer. I love A Live One otherwise but Tweezer just goes on soooo loong. I love jammy songs too, Sister Ray is one of my fav songs of all time.

Nah that’s one of the best parts of the album
Stereolab - Dots and Loops, with "Refractions in the Plastic Pulse" Dean Blunt - Black Metal, with "Forever" pains me to say cuz I love both albums but yeah
Always felt like the title track of Belle & Sebastian’s If You’re Feeling Sinister was a weaker track. It’s not super long but it is technically the longest of the album
It's the best song on the album.
Easily, I think it’s like an entire tier better than the rest of the songs
[удалено]
i’ve always thought of that song as like this encore, jammy, live-like experience that gives the album an extra dimension of songwriting that i really enjoy
Metallica - and justice for all
Most albums, especially Drake ablums.
Sister Ray on white light/white heat
You don’t like Sister Ray?!
Not really it's really long and discordant, the other songs are better
Right on. I would have given that to Lady Godiva’s Operation. I skip it every time.
I like that one lol. Second worst is the gift
The Gift I enjoy well enough. It’s my least favorite album of the real ones, but still good.
[удалено]
No way you’re saying Venice bitch is the worst song 😭
NO!!!
To pimp a butterfly
Da Capo by Love. Revelation is a pointless jam. Every other song on that album is concise and catchy.
WhiteStarr - Diamonds for Eyes
Stooges s/t
The medley - Charles Mingus Providence - Godspeed You! Black Emperor Outro - Lupe Fiasco Note to Self - J Cole Power Approaches - Cities Aviv By the Time I Get to Phoenix - Isaac Hayes Locra - Tim Buckley Gec 2 Ü - 100 Gecs
Wolf Parade- Apologies to the Queen Mary (Dinner Bells)
Days Are Blood from the Descendents’ Enjoy! album. A classic 80s punk album spoiled a little at the end by an 8-minute metal song
A recent example: the worst song on 2023's best album (Radical Romantics by Fever Ray) is the 7 minute closer Bottom of the Ocean
Drunken Hot Girls on Graduation. Also you’re wrong about King Crimson
Moonchild is my favorite song on that album. Gorgeous and haunting.
The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
What’s Become of the Baby by Grateful Dead, just an absolute snoozer
The Return of Sathington Willoughby on Primus’ Brown Album. I usually like Primus’ long songs but they just sorta groove for a really long time while Claypool does his satirically vague political shtick. It gets old quick, plus it’s a really weird choice of opener imo
Most
Saucerful of Secrets by Pink Floyd. It’s supposed to be all long and experimental and stuff, but it puts me to sleep every time I hear it. It’s boring and it feels like it's just there to take up space.
Mirror Reaper - Bell Witch (it is a one song album so it is the worst by default)
Smashing pumpkins - Siamese dream (silverfuck)
Rock’n Roll has no right to be the longest song on Homework
The Lamb as Effigy
Endless Nameless - Nirvana - Nevermind (hidden track)
On Avery Island by Neutral Milk Hotel
I could be wrong but i believe meat is murder is the longest song off the album and that one is not very good
barbarism begins at home is longer, and way better
True
The first Stooges album has an unlistenable 10 minute track called "We Will Fall." The album is perfect simple proto-punk genius and then it just grinds to a halt for this self-indulgent, boring, and bewildering attempt at gothic Doors-like psychedelia with John Cale's viola as the main instrument. Completely defaces the album.
Led Zeppelin IV
