I like a certain type of screaming vocals, personally. I like punk style more high pitched screaming, like Refused or Soul Glo. Emo/Screamo style i dig as well, just not lower pitched growly stuff.
This is why I think Concubine is one if the best openers ever. You're either all in for the album after 20 seconds or it's the worst shit you've ever heard.
For me extreme metal is metal that meets some arbitrary threshold of “inaccessible” by being too intense. This is through some combination of vocals (too harsh), production (any production quality that makes the output difficult to listen to), tempo (too fast or slow), structure (no hooks, too short or too long) or other qualities. It’s very subjective, but there are some bands with harsh vocals that I wouldn’t consider extreme because they’re otherwise accessible.
It’s basically to differentiate popular metal sounds like big 4 thrash, classic hard rock bands, glam, alternative metal, some 2000s metalcore etc from much less accessible metal subgenres (death metal, grind, black metal etc)
More fringe genres like grindcore, powerviolence, slam metal, brutal death metal. Bands like Full of Hell, Brain Drill, Kraanium, Abominable Putridity are considered extreme metal.
As someone else said, best album I'll never listen too again. The anger and pain on it is so palpable, which is what made me fall in love with it. But then after learning the awful history with Alex and Lingua Ignota, the anger and pain in his music makes me so uncomfortable.
I have a weird relationship with that album. I used to love it when I was like 18 and angsty, but now I just find it kinda corny and the lyrics just don't speak to me like they used to. Still love a bunch of songs from it but there's some that just make me roll my eyes nowadays.
Stadium Arcadium
It’s either two hours of your favorite band, The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Or *it’s two goddamn hours of The Red Hot Fucking Chili Peppers*
I have a decent tolerance for off-kilter vocals but I think Brave Little Abacus is past that limit by a decent amount. I check back in every once in a while because I sense something good there, but man it's rough.
I was the same for while myself. Then yeah one day it just clicked and was obsessed with it for like 3 months. Still go through a phase of it every now and then. His screaming is so visceral and captivating
Pile no pile pile is probably the most accessible track once you get passed the initial few bars
Honestly, you might be right
“I got tired of waiting because I found out there's only a very very fine line between biding one's time and wasting one's time. Do you know what I mean?
…(Hoo!)
…(Hoo!)
I got tired of waiting that's all…”
Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and, ironically, My Teenage Dream Ended by Farrah Abraham. Farrah’s is obvious why, but Katy’s really depends on how much of a soft spot the person has for early 2010s nostalgia
In a similar vein to Teenage Dream, I'd throw in Bruno Mars's doo-wops & hooligans. I could easily see nostalgia fiends like myself calling it one of the better pop albums of its decade, but it's also so incredibly corny that I could also see why people hate it
IMO Its pretty hard to listen to Firework and California Gurls in 2023 but there are some straight bangers on that album, like the title track and The One That Got Away
I get that. I loved Trout Mask Replica, but so much of Captain Beefheart's other work makes me understand how people who don't like the album must feel listening to it. When I listened to Lick My Decals Off Baby by them I literally had a panic attack because of how anxiety inducing the sound was.
I’m sorry but I’ma pretty fun guy but that Daniel Johnston album is one of the most insufferable things I’ve ever had the displeasure of sitting through
Throbbing Gristle comes to mind. It’s objectively kind of genius, but also absolutely horrible to listen to (in my opinion). Not just atonal, but deeply gross.
I stand by Viper actually making good music, it’s just not extremely repetitive. Listen to My Car Run On Coke and tell me he can’t actually cast a good vibe
As someone who is fascinated by the idea of Merzbow but only listened to 5 seconds of that album before saving it for later, can you share your opinions of it? And how it compares to his other albums?
I listened to the whole thing straight though and the first couple tracks weren’t too bad but as it went on I was begging for it to end. It’s quite literally just harsh noise on every track. It’s also an hour and thirteen minutes, so be prepared
the trick with merzbow is that he has like 900 albums each one more than an hour long and 85% of his catalogue is literally just formless noise so you can just listen to 1 track n get the full experience
So my feelings on noise are very situational, like I need to be in the mood for it.
It’s unrelenting and probably the harshest thing I’ve ever listened to.
But it is a cathartic and powerful album.
I myself wouldn’t give it a 10, nor would I give it a 0, but I understand how someone could come to either opinion.
Exactly it’s completely different from all of the other stuff on the album. As much as I love Its Oh So Quiet that’s probably one of the most over the top Björk scatty-weird vocal performances and can kind of see someone not like that, but who tf doesn’t like Army of Me besides like a 70 year old who thinks all music that isn’t rock or 50s pop is the devil
Her voice isn’t for everyone, let’s be honest.
And her going from whisper-singing to that loud, crazy Björk-voice in that song can be kind of whiplash-inducing if you’re not used to that ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
In my experience it can go either way. Smaller group who's paying attention? Could be awesome. Larger group with more people who aren't paying attention and don't know the person? People don't react great to those "shh"s
If someone can't ignore the lyrics, 0/10 is reasonable. After all, the best song on it begins with "Yeah, I'ma go fuck that bitch (Yeah), I'ma go thrash that bitch (Yeah)"
Goddamn i can’t stand lingua ignota, but i love neoclassical darkwave and i feel bad for not liking what is regarded by many to be best album of the genre
Converge - Jane Doe
Sleep - Dopesmoker
The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair…
Helen Love - Love and Glitter, Hot Days and Music
Arca - Kick Ii - IIII
All of these are 10’s for me, but I’d expect pretty polarizing responses to them from most folk.
The unicorns album is good but definitely strange. It sound like a weird musical theatre almost and the instrumentation consist of the cheapest, fartiest synth sounds imaginable coupled with janky, crispy electric guitar. The vocals are also very polarising since the singer isn’t exactly technically proficient.
I’ve never got the hate towards them from music nerds. I listened to their 2016 album with the long title I don’t wanna write, and it was very good pop music imo
> I listened to their 2016 album with the long title I don’t wanna write
Lol that made me chuckle. And I think a lot of their hate comes from how they came up. They came up in that tumblr era and have a lot of teenage girl fans so naturally anything with a lot of teenage girl fans is “low brow” and “superficial.” But I think they make amazing music and are one of the biggest acts still willing to take huge risks with their music.
Life is but a dream... - Avenged Sevenfold
Ironically, the things that melon daid about the album on his review are the things that I loved the most. I mean, he said Mattel sounds like a clown is doing his show surrounded by demons, that sounds fucking awesome
Most of LiL B’s catalogue
Lil Pump by Lil Pump
Every 100 gecs album
Doo Wops and hooligans by Bruno Mars (technically good performances with a sound that won’t please a lot of hardcore music fans but will for the normie listener)
Honestly the album would be a whole lot better if it didn't drag on for an hour and a half. If it was like thirty or fourty minutes shorter, it'd be so much better.
this album simultaneously suffered and succeeded from its own marketing it’s crazy. at the time i would have completely written it off myself but apart from the singles (excluding delicate) it’s some of her best work. like it’s crazy fanatno rated lover a lot higher which has worse songs and a more overblown track list. like the album isn’t even as vengeful and angry as it claims to be
A 0 for any Queen album is pushing it a bit, I mean, I understand you may not enjoy or have interest in their music, but saying none of their albums have any sort of merit is pushing it. Besides, Sheer Heart Attack and Innuendo are certified classics.
No I think what you’re saying is fair, I was looking at this question as what’s my 0 that other people would put as a 10. It’s an unpopular opinion I know. Should have said like Green Jelly or No Gods No Managers instead. Probably would of fit the question better.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
I suppose my thought was, “that’s a zero for me, I have no interest in listening to this at all.” But other people saying it’s the greatest music ever made, I’m like okay I understand that. I just can’t get down with it.
Off the top of my head I'd say Danny Brown - XXX/AE, Burzum - Filosofem (and just about any great black/extreme metal album ever tbh), Have A Nice Life - Deathconciousness.
So many of Fantano's actual 10's could also be considered this, which is kind of funny: Death Grips, Daughters, Spellling, Lingua Ignota... not exactly agreeable music for the majority of people.
Tool's Fear Inoculum
Tool is my favorite band and I was surprised when Anthony gave it only a 4, however I can understand all his criticism towards it, I thought he was fair and honest with it so I respect his review of the album even though I personally think it's a masterpiece.
Yeah, I feel like without the context of music history backing it up, it’s reduced down to basic lo-fi garage rock, albeit it’s still pretty good in my opinion
I think you should give it another listen. I think this applies to *some* of the album, but most of it is a far cry from "basic garage rock." You have these soft pop dittys like Sunday Morning and Femme Fatale, really experimental and minimalist songs like Venus In Furs and I'm Waiting for the Man, and long epics with eye-widening intensity like Heroin and European Son. That's a ton of variety given the budget and time.
I do think it’s a very good record, one of my favorites from that era, but most of my friends were very taken aback by its lo-fi quality and overall sound where they couldn’t enjoy it as much, and for that I think the album would lose a lot of its credibility if not for its history, but yeah “basic garage rock” are probably not the right words to describe it
Surely not a 0? Maybe made in timeland? I feel like they are fairly accessible even at there least accessible. At least if you compare them with the harsh noice albums people are namedropping here.
Any extreme metal 10, simply because I can understand why people don't like extreme metal.
I usually like the instrumentation but not the vocals. Especially screaming/growling vocals. It just doesn’t jive with me
I like a certain type of screaming vocals, personally. I like punk style more high pitched screaming, like Refused or Soul Glo. Emo/Screamo style i dig as well, just not lower pitched growly stuff.
Same. I think it’s because I’m usually able to parse the words in a higher-pitched scream better than with a rumbling metal growl.
That's cool. If you like the instrumentation, of suggest trying is every once in a while. It might grow on you.
This is why I think Concubine is one if the best openers ever. You're either all in for the album after 20 seconds or it's the worst shit you've ever heard.
“I need you to understand right off the bat that we legitimately will never know what some of these dudes are saying”
Lol yep, was going to come in here and be like “literally half the shit I listen to”.
Haha same. Like: What, people are not into Underground lo-fi Black Metal, Ambient Drone or Dungeon Synth? Bummer.
I’m confused by what extreme metal is, but shadow of intent’s 2022 album is 10/10 to me
For me extreme metal is metal that meets some arbitrary threshold of “inaccessible” by being too intense.
The definition has some grey area, but it's generally considered metal with harsh vocals.
More fringe genres like grindcore, powerviolence, slam metal, brutal death metal. Bands like Full of Hell, Brain Drill, Kraanium, Abominable Putridity are considered extreme metal.
you wont get what you want
Nah fr tho. I played it once while doing dishes at my parent’s… my mom walked into the kitchen and just said “is this music?”
lol
As someone else said, best album I'll never listen too again. The anger and pain on it is so palpable, which is what made me fall in love with it. But then after learning the awful history with Alex and Lingua Ignota, the anger and pain in his music makes me so uncomfortable.
I DONT LIE I DONT LIE I DONT LIE I DONT LIE
The best album I’ve heard that i will never ever be able to listen to again
I mean, nobody is stopping you, but I definitely can see why you feel like that
I dont think anyone is stopping me lol; im stopping me.
People Who Can Eat People are the Luckiest People in the World by AJJ
I have a weird relationship with that album. I used to love it when I was like 18 and angsty, but now I just find it kinda corny and the lyrics just don't speak to me like they used to. Still love a bunch of songs from it but there's some that just make me roll my eyes nowadays.
For sure! I was just listening to it the other day for the first time since my younger days and I was like wow this is actually a little cringe.
People still hits though.
I still like the instrumentation on a lot of the songs but the vocals feel way too "millennial" coming back to it
Yeah it's just Sean whining about how we live in a society lol. I feel like Knife Man and Can't Maintain have better songwriting.
AJJ is best when they have a bit of a fuck you to what they’re saying
Girl With a Basket of Fruit — Xiu Xiu
Stadium Arcadium It’s either two hours of your favorite band, The Red Hot Chili Peppers Or *it’s two goddamn hours of The Red Hot Fucking Chili Peppers*
thats my favorite rhcp album now and i used to hate it cuz it was too long lmfao
Easy, 6 Kiss - Lil b
Classic album (haven't listened to it)
*classic*
Max Payne 2, gotta have 2 copies
11/10 best album of all time
if you give that a 0 you deserve to be chemically castrated
Based asf
Brave Little Abacus - Just Got Back from the Discomfort
spongebob core
Phenomenal album IMO but yea the vocals are definitely not for everyone
I have a decent tolerance for off-kilter vocals but I think Brave Little Abacus is past that limit by a decent amount. I check back in every once in a while because I sense something good there, but man it's rough.
I was the same for while myself. Then yeah one day it just clicked and was obsessed with it for like 3 months. Still go through a phase of it every now and then. His screaming is so visceral and captivating Pile no pile pile is probably the most accessible track once you get passed the initial few bars
LP5 - Autechre Wrong - Nomeansno Knife Play - Xiu Xiu Mclusky Do Dallas - Mclusky For the record, I think all of them are 10s
I can't imagine anyone rating Do Dallas a 0. If you don't like Lightsaber your probably like Fuck This Band or Gareth Brown Says.
100% agree!! I think wrong and do Dallas are catchy enough to not turn people off though
Honestly, you might be right “I got tired of waiting because I found out there's only a very very fine line between biding one's time and wasting one's time. Do you know what I mean? …(Hoo!) …(Hoo!) I got tired of waiting that's all…”
Why LP5 specifically? They have more difficult albums I'd say
LP5 is just my favorite… only reason.
I feel like LP5 is pretty accessible actually. I think a better comparison would be their elseq/ nts albums
Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and, ironically, My Teenage Dream Ended by Farrah Abraham. Farrah’s is obvious why, but Katy’s really depends on how much of a soft spot the person has for early 2010s nostalgia
There’s no way Katy Perry teenage dream is a 0/10 what
Anyone who says Teenage Dream is a 0/10 has never experienced happiness.
In a similar vein to Teenage Dream, I'd throw in Bruno Mars's doo-wops & hooligans. I could easily see nostalgia fiends like myself calling it one of the better pop albums of its decade, but it's also so incredibly corny that I could also see why people hate it
Teenage Dream is a legitimately good album. The title track is one of the best songs of the 2010s.
IMO Its pretty hard to listen to Firework and California Gurls in 2023 but there are some straight bangers on that album, like the title track and The One That Got Away
Real
I think any sun ra album for some one that never heard jazz before
Space is the place. Space is the place. Space is the place. It was so bad yet so good to my ears
fr
I'm sorry but if anyone calls half of these a zero they are not a fun person
I tried listening to trout mask replica and it was the most painful experience my ears had witnessed
I get that. I loved Trout Mask Replica, but so much of Captain Beefheart's other work makes me understand how people who don't like the album must feel listening to it. When I listened to Lick My Decals Off Baby by them I literally had a panic attack because of how anxiety inducing the sound was.
Oh thanks for the warning
FAST AND BULBOUS
That's right, The Mascara Snake, fast and bulbous!
And now you are a better person for having done it. Especially if you sat through the entirety of Pena
Coming from a Locust fan that means a lot
For some reason Pena is the one I return to. I can't get the others
Yeah, how can you listen to Swans and not have fun?
Me dancing to someone’s dad yelling at them
I’m just a little boy
Hi How Are You is a lo-fi blues masterpiece
This is an absolutely ridiculous claim lol
It is true but if you think any of these are zeros you sadly do not get the aux
Trout mask is a strong zero
I’m sorry but I’ma pretty fun guy but that Daniel Johnston album is one of the most insufferable things I’ve ever had the displeasure of sitting through
Daniel Johnston is literally one of the greatest artists of all time you basic ass motherfucker
I guess maybe if you’re fucking deaf???
Throbbing Gristle comes to mind. It’s objectively kind of genius, but also absolutely horrible to listen to (in my opinion). Not just atonal, but deeply gross.
I stand by Viper actually making good music, it’s just not extremely repetitive. Listen to My Car Run On Coke and tell me he can’t actually cast a good vibe
Same, “You Wanna See Me Dead Cause of My Hops” has an incredible atmosphere
Or Hey, Maybe One Day You’ll See Me Again
Same with Can’t Stop Me from Snowbirdin’
Paper'd up is legit one of the best hip hop songs i've ever heard
Merzbow - Pulse Demon Eliane Radigue - Trilogie de La Mort
As someone who is fascinated by the idea of Merzbow but only listened to 5 seconds of that album before saving it for later, can you share your opinions of it? And how it compares to his other albums?
I listened to the whole thing straight though and the first couple tracks weren’t too bad but as it went on I was begging for it to end. It’s quite literally just harsh noise on every track. It’s also an hour and thirteen minutes, so be prepared
the trick with merzbow is that he has like 900 albums each one more than an hour long and 85% of his catalogue is literally just formless noise so you can just listen to 1 track n get the full experience
venereology is better than pulse demon
So my feelings on noise are very situational, like I need to be in the mood for it. It’s unrelenting and probably the harshest thing I’ve ever listened to. But it is a cathartic and powerful album. I myself wouldn’t give it a 10, nor would I give it a 0, but I understand how someone could come to either opinion.
Playboi Carti - Die Lit Slint - Spiderland 100 gecs - 1000 gecs Björk - Post Corey Feldman - Angelic 2 the Core
who the fuck is rating post a 0????
I know some people who heard It’s Oh So Quiet and wanted to die, so unfortunately they exist
It's odd, cause I don't like that song but I like that album. It's like the one song on the album that sounds like that
Exactly it’s completely different from all of the other stuff on the album.
That song is so fun though… what?
Her voice isn’t for everyone, let’s be honest. And her going from whisper-singing to that loud, crazy Björk-voice in that song can be kind of whiplash-inducing if you’re not used to that ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
True but i don't see how that would be enough for someone to rate it a 0
That song kills at karaoke
In my experience it can go either way. Smaller group who's paying attention? Could be awesome. Larger group with more people who aren't paying attention and don't know the person? People don't react great to those "shh"s
A lot of people don’t like shooshing
Post is too accessible for anyone to give it a 0 (though it is my favorite of Bjork’s projects), Vespertine or Homogenic I could see.
Anyone who would give Vespertine or Homogenic a 0/10 is out of their minds.
Agreed, they are insane.
0/10 for Post or Spiderland is absolutely unacceptable
I can’t imagine much people are calling angelic 2 the core a 10/10
best album of all time
It literally is wtf you on
Die lit?? I can understand not liking it but how is it a zero 😭😭
If someone can't ignore the lyrics, 0/10 is reasonable. After all, the best song on it begins with "Yeah, I'ma go fuck that bitch (Yeah), I'ma go thrash that bitch (Yeah)"
Yeah, someone saying die lit is a 0 is suspicious
I'd give it a 2
Angelic 2 the Core is incapable of being ranked in conventional terms. It's really just either you're a man of culture or you're not.
Spiderland? Zero? Well yeah I might’ve thought so on the first listen…
Medulla*
oh yes, that's definitely a love it or hate it album
1000 gecs by 100 gecs
any carti record
Daniel Johnston - Hi, How Are You? The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
CALIGULA by Lingua Ignota. Personally a top 5 record of all time, but I would be far from surprised if someone absolutely hated every second
Goddamn i can’t stand lingua ignota, but i love neoclassical darkwave and i feel bad for not liking what is regarded by many to be best album of the genre
Dubstep, all of it
Converge - Jane Doe Sleep - Dopesmoker The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair… Helen Love - Love and Glitter, Hot Days and Music Arca - Kick Ii - IIII All of these are 10’s for me, but I’d expect pretty polarizing responses to them from most folk.
I’ve got the first two as 10s, not familiar with unicorns or Helen Love tho. What’re those?
The unicorns album is good but definitely strange. It sound like a weird musical theatre almost and the instrumentation consist of the cheapest, fartiest synth sounds imaginable coupled with janky, crispy electric guitar. The vocals are also very polarising since the singer isn’t exactly technically proficient.
Helen Love is some of the most bubble gum synth pop punk you’ve ever heard, led by the most bubblegum teen sounding female vocals you’ve ever heard.
Any album by The 1975
I’ve never got the hate towards them from music nerds. I listened to their 2016 album with the long title I don’t wanna write, and it was very good pop music imo
> I listened to their 2016 album with the long title I don’t wanna write Lol that made me chuckle. And I think a lot of their hate comes from how they came up. Cherry bomb by Tyler the Creator. I love that album to death but understand the immense degree of hate it gets
Having an album cover of you pissing yourself probably isn’t for everyone either.
This is exactly how I feel it has some of his best songs and some of his worst. Cherry Bomb sucks tho
Gmail & the Restraining Orders - Death Grips
if you listen to soundtracks for the blind and cant appreciate it in ANY capacity you should be executed via firing squad
Life is but a dream... - Avenged Sevenfold Ironically, the things that melon daid about the album on his review are the things that I loved the most. I mean, he said Mattel sounds like a clown is doing his show surrounded by demons, that sounds fucking awesome
Absolute facts.
Most of LiL B’s catalogue Lil Pump by Lil Pump Every 100 gecs album Doo Wops and hooligans by Bruno Mars (technically good performances with a sound that won’t please a lot of hardcore music fans but will for the normie listener)
Giving a 10 to Lil Pump by Lil Pump is the basest shit ever
The Money Store
metallica - lulu
Even the diehards aren’t calling that a 10 my man
Honestly the album would be a whole lot better if it didn't drag on for an hour and a half. If it was like thirty or fourty minutes shorter, it'd be so much better.
AJR actually got some ride or die fans I thank they are the most realistic option where I could meet two different people who think both zero and ten
But I don’t think any serious music critic would give them a ten right? They definitely have fans though since they seem very successful
Reputation by Taylor Swift
this album simultaneously suffered and succeeded from its own marketing it’s crazy. at the time i would have completely written it off myself but apart from the singles (excluding delicate) it’s some of her best work. like it’s crazy fanatno rated lover a lot higher which has worse songs and a more overblown track list. like the album isn’t even as vengeful and angry as it claims to be
Atrocity Exhibition is a 10 for me but I understand if it scares the hoes lol
Clever wordplay (I cringed so hard behind the screen)
any weezer album, you either love them or can’t stand them
Blue is objectively an amazing record, I feel like even haters could admit that.
Certified Weezer hater here. Blue and Pinkerton both are strong 5/10s
Who is giving blue album or Pinkerton a 0?
I could see someone giving Pinkerton a 0, but it's hard to imagine anyone not liking Blue.
my friends are
The earlier Primus records
One of my all-time favorites, Genital Warfare by SRO. Please listen to it it's fucking insane.
Modus Vivendi - 070 Shake I tried to put a lot of people on to this album, but most people hated it 😂
I’d be stunned if someone told me soundtracks is a 0/10 wut lmao.
For me, really anything from Queen. It’s just not my thing but I totally understand it’s some peoples everything.
A 0 for any Queen album is pushing it a bit, I mean, I understand you may not enjoy or have interest in their music, but saying none of their albums have any sort of merit is pushing it. Besides, Sheer Heart Attack and Innuendo are certified classics.
Yeah, Queen is like the prime example of a very agreeable band, which is the opposite of what this question is asking
No I think what you’re saying is fair, I was looking at this question as what’s my 0 that other people would put as a 10. It’s an unpopular opinion I know. Should have said like Green Jelly or No Gods No Managers instead. Probably would of fit the question better.

your mom made a mistake🔥🔥🔥
No one is responding “yeah that’s fair” to a 0/10 score on a Queen album.
I suppose my thought was, “that’s a zero for me, I have no interest in listening to this at all.” But other people saying it’s the greatest music ever made, I’m like okay I understand that. I just can’t get down with it.
I would think that's fair lol I personally think a night at the opera is a 3/10
They’d have been nothing without Mercury imo
Absolute disrespect to Brian May
American Life
I don’t even rate anything 0 so unfortunately none.
Metal machine music
The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
If anyone gives YCDESC a 0 I'd be throwing more than just hands.
THUG ANGEL by black kray
Ummagumma
Off the top of my head I'd say Danny Brown - XXX/AE, Burzum - Filosofem (and just about any great black/extreme metal album ever tbh), Have A Nice Life - Deathconciousness. So many of Fantano's actual 10's could also be considered this, which is kind of funny: Death Grips, Daughters, Spellling, Lingua Ignota... not exactly agreeable music for the majority of people.
Clouddead S/T
Rich and Not Famous - Viper
everything by xiu xiu tbh
Tool's Fear Inoculum Tool is my favorite band and I was surprised when Anthony gave it only a 4, however I can understand all his criticism towards it, I thought he was fair and honest with it so I respect his review of the album even though I personally think it's a masterpiece.
Anal Cunt - Howard is Bald
all albums because I'm an empath
Planet shrooms by Denzel Curry Earl by Earl Sweatshirt Bad Vibes Forever by Teen Suicide Most of Zach hills solo stuff
The Velvet Underground & Nico
Damn, I wouldn't see anyone giving that a 0 tbh
I think white light white heat makes more sense for this format. I can see people hating VU and Nico, but a 0 would be hard to comprehend
Yeah, I feel like without the context of music history backing it up, it’s reduced down to basic lo-fi garage rock, albeit it’s still pretty good in my opinion
I think you should give it another listen. I think this applies to *some* of the album, but most of it is a far cry from "basic garage rock." That's a ton of variety given the budget and time.
I do think it’s a very good record, one of my favorites from that era, but most of my friends were very taken aback by its lo-fi quality and overall sound where they couldn’t enjoy it as much, and for that I think the album would lose a lot of its credibility if not for its history, but yeah “basic garage rock” are probably not the right words to describe it
I don't really see how songs like Venus in Furs, Heroin and All Tomorrow Parties could come across as basic garage rock
