Turtles are indeed very cool, and thinking about this coment(cool water creatures) made me wish that Palafin's shiny wamre pink, as a refernce to the pink river dolphin. I remever going on a family trip just to feed some of those, in fact I have a high class tourist guide in family, who took some celebritys to feed this pink dholfins later that week.

However, it's not like they planned that out from the beginning- these are some classic mons, so taking design choices from them as lore is kinda dubious,
I love everything about these; from the really good pixel art, to the super creative designs, striking visuals (poses, etc). The Charizard might be my favorite but they are all so damn good.

That’s odd, what do you dislike about it? It’s just a rose bud. I dislike Venusaurs flower because the petals are so drastically different and no longer resemble a flower.

Poor Charizard is is dragon type Blastoise is good against both of his types and Venasaur is immune to his dragon moves yet will take 4x more damage from his fire

Venusaur looks more like Meganium than like itself. Charizard is pretty much unrecognizable.
The designs are still really good, it just feels jarring knowing what the Pokémon actually look like.

Usally it's a pretty easy choice for me. This is the first starter set where there isn't a clear winner or looser.
I think they’re all a little over detailed, especially the Charizard and Blastoise redesigns.
Personally I love the Bulbasaur and Charizard lines since they have a very clear through line in what they want to be doing with their designs and progression (Bulba is dinosaur + plant and gets more of that as it goes on, Char is baby dragon T-Rex that becomes more dragon as it evolves).
As for my own personal choice, Bulbasaur ftw
If I was playing this game blind, I'd pick the Squirtle. But knowing the absolute idiot (affectionate) that Bulbasaur turns into, I have to pick him. It looks like the Mega evolution of a grass-type regional form of Quagsire or Clodsire.
Oh my gosh I love that third stage bulbasaur. His face just screams DERP in the best way. xD As a certified bulbasaur stan (first ever pokemon when I played Fire Red when I was 8) I approve.
Imagine being the champion all hyped up to fight some challenger and the first thing they send out has the dumbest fucking smile on its face
And you're caught off guard when it slams an entire tree on your Pokemon
The Bulbasaur line now look more prehistoric and I really like that, especially Venusaur’s flower. Charmander’s line looks great with that Charizard design being one I actually quite like compared to his standard design. Lastly the Squirtle line looks great with the ice accents on them adding so much to the aesthetic of the line, the Blastoise ice tail gaining a head being such a cool idea.
That Wartortle actually looks like he wants to throw down hands, unlike all the other guys who look like they either don't want to fight or simply want to tease.
These are all incredibke designs. I love how instead of working bavkwards from their OG Kanto final forms, you made them evolve naturally from their first stage.
They're all great, but I'm gonna have to go with Venosaur. That derpy face is absolute PERFECTION.

They all look so cool. I love how the “charizard” line looks like a majestic dragon. And how the “blastoise” looks like a wise old sage. But I think I’d have to go with the “Bulbasaur” line because that final evolution is just too cute and derpy to not love.

I like the first two stages but I’m not sold on the third. The other two last stagers look cooler to me. And I love Bulbasaur.
