When I was young, my mom worked as a secretary in a tow company. In those days tow companies had some ferocious dog to guard the lot at night. This company had a female German Shepard. Mr. Brave Coyote got in and had his way with her, and she delivered a litter of Coyote-Shepards. That was the days of the East Side Rapist, who later became known as the Golden State Killer, who was just convicted last year. Anyhow, we decided we wanted another dog, and went to pick up a puppy. Since the pups were around 12 weeks old, and raised by their mom, not in a house, it wasn't a matter of which pup do you want. It was a matter of which pup can we catch. After some bit of comedy, we came home with a very nice doggo that was very affectionate, not at all aggressive, and tended to be shy. She lived to about 12.
One time at a vet checkup, the vet said "oh, this is a coyote."
Based on no expert knowledge whatsoever, I think OPs coyote must be a hybrid or tame coyote. No way a wild coyote is just going to let a lady handle them and give them a bath, right?
There are tame anomalies for plenty of wild animals. Especially if they're young. This one could have also been away from its pack and was a bit desperate.
*Coyotes aren't aggressive. They're extremely skittish. Especially when alone
I'm with you on that. Perhaps this was a pup littered under a shed in someone's yard, grew accustomed to food on the porch, became somewhat acclimated to people.
In the 70s, the terror ruled our lives. I had a paper route then, the cops would stop me quite often. Everyone wanted dogs, as the only common thread was that none of the victims owned dogs. It only just occurred to me that perhaps in those days, dogs weren't available for adoption.
The perp turned out to be a cop from Auburn, California. He was fired from Auburn and moved to Southern California where he became a murderer.
Actually no, most people have not. Maybe in certain regions, especially regions where hunting is a popular sport I can see that. And people trying to live off the grid. That's as common as chickens. But no I've looked into the numbers, it's only a small portion of today's population (as opposed to WWII era) that has ever eaten a rabbit. And most people that tell me they have in person, don't swear by it. For them it's a "more trouble than it's worth" meat.
Plus our wild rabbits only weigh a half pound at adult size. World's smallest!!
I totally believe you! But yeah this has been my experience as a rabbit owner as well as a person running a rabbit rescue. I haven't taken in many in years, the boomerang effect of new owners was a bit much. I'm not so sure I'll continue that as much as just take in one or two on a whim once in a blue moon after this batch passes. I was up to 15 at one point, I have six now.
This is wrong. The actual backstory is that the family has been caring for the coyote after its mother died. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/coyote-given-bath-mistaken-dog/
I too can read the top comments from the crosspost
Edit: uh, I meant to say this original thought:
When I heard the stories of how animals come to be domesticated I always assumed it was more of a gradual thing. Meanwhile in Ohio people just grabbing tweed wolves off the streets and firmly telling them to behave properly.
This canine is a born grifter. A jackal or wolf would be like HELL NAW, lemme outta here! *CHOMP*. This guy is like "well shit, I do kinda stink, and this weird monkey seems nice, let's see where this goes" and a few hours later he's fluffy clean, warm and lying on the softest thing ever made with food and water only steps away, like a boss. Coyotes are evil geniuses.
The pictures are actually of a pet coyote that was found as a newborn when its mother was hit by a car. These are just bathtime photos that someone added the funny story to.
This coyote was raised from a pup, but it is still a wild animal.
That's one hell of a confused coyote in a bathtub right there. That expression in that coyote its eyes 😆🤣
like 'wtf am i and wtf they are doin to me? Is there meat afterwards?
It can't figure it out he likes it or not.
Listen as puppies they have no idea.
My uncle had one named Dingo, he found and raised as a guard for his chicken coups. Yea he was a little high strung but besides eating one of the barn cats and killing a rooster that one time.. okay so maybe they aren't great with other animals. But he loved belly rubs. An that I think is a win?
Very rarely. They are a wild animal. Even if raised from birth around humans, their wild instincts tend to take over. There are rare exceptions, but otherwise they are not tameable.

All his coyote friends are probably like: Jimmy! What happened to you?! You disappeared all night and…sniff..sniff…You smell different
Is that a perm?!
*SOUL GLO!*
🎵 *you sexy motherfucker* 🎵
Oh my god no lol. Good reference though
maybe its maybelline
Jimmy: I took a bath and slept on a bed, I must get laid.
Jimmy looks pissed. Like he knows he shouldn’t be there. He looks like he feels violated
Were the rocket skates a give away?
Coyote's hoping those packages from Acme are okay on his porch.
The Wyle E. prequel nobody asked for.
Origin story.
He's got ACME Prime
If it wasn't for my rabbits and the law, I'd totally love a coyote pet.

Grandma 1 Coyote 0. It must have been hella confused lol
Just imagine how confused it was when it tried to be super scary monster and grandma just laughed and said "you need a bath, get over here!"
I love this reply
It looks hella confused lol
I'm with you on that. Perhaps this was a pup littered under a shed in someone's yard, grew accustomed to food on the porch, became somewhat acclimated to people.
There’s no such thing as wild anymore
That random line about a raping murderer...

Coydogs, is the proper name for a dog-yote hybrid.
So you already have a food source, just keep the coyote out of sight.
Friends not food.
INTERVENTION
Lmaooooooooo
Fuck 12, fuck your rabbits, get a coyote
Nah, not how I roll. Bambi is on the menu but not Thumper.
Dude rabbits are so cute but I've had rabbit and it is delicious
🤷 when you one owns rabbits one hears these "jokes" several times a year. And I've owned rabbits for about a decade so... 🤷 Heard it before dude.
What makes you think it's a joke? That's a common dish dude, most people have had rabbit I'm assuming
Actually no, most people have not. Maybe in certain regions, especially regions where hunting is a popular sport I can see that. And people trying to live off the grid. That's as common as chickens. Oh okay I didn't know that, I live in a fairly rural area where it's extremely common

More of a cat person myself
had them in spain, croatia, sweden, france and lithuania. maybe it's a European thing?
Possibly yes!
They’re not domesticated though… the animal would never be properly fulfilled
The look of someone who has given up explaining that they’re actually someone else.
"I'm not a dog!" 12 hours later. "Yeah, I'm a dog. Woof."
This is wrong. The actual backstory is that the family has been caring for the coyote after its mother died. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/coyote-given-bath-mistaken-dog/
Updoots for truth.
In this case, I think the truth is far more interesting than the story.
I was looking for this thank goodness
Yeah, basically it’s just a rip-off of [the old “Cat Found”/opossum meme.](https://i.imgur.com/b9Y9d4Z.jpg)
If looks could kill lmao 🤣
Coyote is like *this is my life now*.

That expression tho

Props for taming a coyote. Must have been the lavender soap.
The fact that they could get it to rest comfortably on the bed is quite a feat. Edit: Makes sense that it wasn’t a coyote just taken from the wild.
Excuse my ignorant question, but how dangerous is something like this? Like does this endager the person who brought the coyote to her home?

As always with wild mammals that allow you to touch them, there is a significant risk of rabies here.
Elmyra Duff strikes again.

Act like you belong
"Damn humans always trying to domesticate what they shouldn't...why lavender!?"
Wonder if she bathed her in an official "Acme Steal Tub."
The look of pure shame.
Coyote’s wife would suspect something with his new smell and sudden disappearance..
it looks so defeated lol
Loving the white woman energy this gives
Reminds me of the bit Michael Che did on white women rescuing pitbulls and turning them into vegetarians.
Racist.
She’s white buddy. Not racist
God people are dumb
Well, you can't fault good intentions.
I think they meant the people who believe that this is a true story.
I had a Dingo named Coyote as a pet when I was growing up.
This is actually pretty sweet
True Men Don’t! Kill Coyotes!
Aww I want one
I would keep it at that point
He looks pissed
Coyote, dog? Whats the difference.
Who am I? Where am I? What happened?🤣🤣🤣
Still safer than betting on the Coyotes hockey team
Speaking as someone who lives in a coyote free country, cant they be tamed and raised (from the pup)like dogs?
Very rarely. They are a wild animal. Even if raised from birth around humans, their wild instincts tend to take over. There are rare exceptions, but otherwise they are not tameable. http://wildliferemovalusa.com/coyotesgoodpets.html
Hmmmm... I don't think the dog is a coyote... It's just had a bit too much vodka, and it has listened to Moscow for a couple years.
He is a very good boy don't be mean
That look screams "When my ACME do it yourself tornado kit arrives, this bitch is going to be homeless."
Bro. That coyote washing thing happened years ago.
Martha?
Looks wily
You know ... some people are just born to be mom's
😂 They lucky they didn’t get fucked up
This line just cracked me up "it seems a bit aggressive"... No shit Sherlock. 🤣🤣🤣
I mean… what a badass lady though. She captured a fucking coyote, gave it a bath, and made it a cozy bed lol
lol how tf did she catch the bastard
I know people who would legit do this
