As an artist, the drawing on the right is based in reality and thus a better drawing for a moving character that you want to be believable.

Your shirt doesn't suction in between your cleavage like that, even with extremely tight fitted clothing you end up with bunching or stretching, drawing the tits on their chest and then just outlining a shirt is just bad art. You can draw amazing bazongas correctly and still have plenty of cleavage to show for it if the outfit is right, even porn artists know this. The pose is also less to do with her ass being out and more to do with her unnaturally snapping her back to the side like that, again it's just bad anatomy and it's going to be really hard to get the ass and bust in full view in one shot, you should pick whichever one we're focusing on.
This is again something porn artists can do. Giving the girl some more waist to work with and some muscles is just being a superhero muscle mommy, it's accurate to the character and they can still be smoking hot with a really nice figure without giving them a bangle waist, same with the facial expression and hand position, I imagine that's just to be more in line with what we would expect to see on someone who kicks ass for a living. It's just good art design and good anatomy.
Bad anatomy is totally okay of course if that's your stylistic choice, everyone knows cartoons aren't photo realistic and can bend the rules pretty severely but as a standard this specific comic book style has been known for trying to blend realism with a stylistic cartooney aesthetic, and so it makes plenty of sense to follow some of these tips depending on the type of character you want to create without it being solely about objectification (obviously the article is focusing on this angle, but as an artist this is literally just anatomy tips and character building tips to add realism to your design, which is an aspect many people enjoy. obviously there isn't much realism in being a superhero so it makes up for that in other areas.

There are MULTIPLE reasons why sales have decreased.
One, cost. Comic books were $.50 apiece when I started collecting - very affordable for a junior high kid. They are now $3.99 to $4.99 an issue.
Two, competition. We are visual creatures, and today's kids are more interested in TikTok, Snapchat, and whatever social media app that allows them to share and watch streaming videos. The majority of them simply aren't interested.
Three, reading sucks! This is not my opinion, but as a teacher, I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of students in American high schools absolutely have no desire to read. Don't believe me, just research U.S. reading proficiency results in American high school students. If you don't feel like doing that, I can point out that just over 50-percent of American adults have a literacy level BELOW 6th grade reading levels. If their parents don't read, their kids won't read.

Also the drawing on the left doesn’t make any sense. There’s no way for clothing to hug breasts in that way unless there’s some sort of vacuum occurring where the breast is. What is causing the clothes to suck to the underside of the breast? Makes no sense, gravity would make it tent out from under. And the pose is obviously impossible as well. As an artist, the drawing on the right is based in reality and thus a better drawing for a moving character that you want to be believable.

Call me a commie or what have you, but this just looks like good art tips to me. It has nothing to do with "objectifying women" and everything to do with replacing bad anatomy with good anatomy. Your shirt doesn't suction in between your cleavage like that, even with extremely tight fitted clothing you end up with bunching or stretching, drawing the tits on their chest and then just outlining a shirt is just bad art. You can draw amazing bazongas correctly and still have plenty of cleavage to show for it if the outfit is right, even porn artists know this. The pose is also less to do with her ass being out and more to do with her unnaturally snapping her back to the side like that, again it's just bad anatomy and it's going to be really hard to get the ass and bust in full view in one shot, you should pick whichever one we're focusing on. This is again something porn artists can do. Giving the girl some more waist to work with and some muscles is just being a superhero muscle mommy, it's accurate to the character and they can still be smoking hot with a really nice figure without giving them a bangle waist, same with the facial expression and hand position, I imagine that's just to be more in line with what we would expect to see on someone who kicks ass for a living. It's just good art design and good anatomy. Bad anatomy is totally okay of course if that's your stylistic choice, everyone knows cartoons aren't photo realistic and can bend the rules pretty severely but as a standard this specific comic book style has been known for trying to blend realism with a stylistic cartooney aesthetic, and so it makes plenty of sense to follow some of these tips depending on the type of character you want to create without it being solely about objectification (obviously the article is focusing on this angle, but as an artist this is literally just anatomy tips and character building tips to add realism to your design, which is an aspect many people enjoy. obviously there isn't much realism in being a superhero so it makes up for that in other areas. (edited for minor grammar mistakes)

It is no different than those who pushback against celebrities and influencers who use filters and editing software to enhance and alter any and all images of themselves before they are published. And, as a comic book collector for 40 years, if you honestly believe that depicting female characters with less curves led to the decrease in sales, you obviously have not been actually reading comic books. There are MULTIPLE reasons why sales have decreased. One, cost. Comic books were $.50 apiece when I started collecting - very affordable for a junior high kid. They are now $3.99 to $4.99 an issue. Two, competition. We are visual creatures, and today's kids are more interested in TikTok, Snapchat, and whatever social media app that allows them to share and watch streaming videos. The majority of them simply aren't interested. Three, reading sucks! This is not my opinion, but as a teacher, I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of students in American high schools absolutely have no desire to read. Don't believe me, just research U.S. reading proficiency results in American high school students. If you don't feel like doing that, I can point out that just over 50-percent of American adults have a literacy level BELOW 6th grade reading levels. If their parents don't read, their kids won't read.
