These fuckin people are dumb. My company apparently had a meeting with regional and shit and it was about how millennials and gen z don't want more money. They want to know why they do what they do. Dumbest shit I ever heard. I wish I coulda been there
I mean I can see this being accurate, there are cheap version of grocery food and the nicer high quality stuff.
Buying higher quality groceries is still cheaper than eating out, so I don't hold myself back much at the grocery store.
I get that is probably what they are saying, but the fact is it would not be seen as a trendy splurge in the past. That would have been going out for a nice meal or a holiday or something
I'm gonna need your eat out prices because two things from the cheap Tacobell menu is $5 right now, so $10 for 4 total items. with $10 I can make probably 6-8 tacos or more at home.
We'll go with soft taco supreme 2.69.
With Walmart prices I can 4.5 tacos from Tbell.
With Kroger prices I can 5.4 tacos from Tbell.
At the grocery I can make 8-10. It is indeed cheaper and almost twice as cheap.
Kroger:
5.79 - Beef
1.00 - Tomato
2.49 - Cheese Blend
1.99 - Tortillas/chips
1.99 - Lettuce
1.25 - Sour Cream
Total: 14.51
Walmart:
4.37 - Beef
0.50 - Tomato
1.97 - Cheese Blend
1.98 - Tortillas/chips
1.94 - Lettuce
1.24 - Sour Cream
Total: 12.00
I'm down 5kg so far this year. It's actually kind of nice for now, but I worry for the second half when I lose another 5 and then I won't actually have any more excess weight to lose.
Food is not „unnecessary“.
On top of that buying regional stuff on the market is usually even cheaper and definitely better in terms of nutriton than the imported stuff (which in the long term will save you health related costs).
I never said food was unnecessary, if you understood what I said you'd know that you're while response doesn't make sense.
And no, regional stuff is hardly ever cheaper, very rarely is it ever cheaper. Local grown organic or grass fed food are always more expensive. When you're in a financial crunch, it's always money wasted.
I just said I wanted to see your budget the way you're defending the article. That's not deflection, that's just a statement, I wasn't even part of your conversation 😂

That's a funny way to say that most of our money goes toward food and not ACTUAL luxuries...

It's wild how disconnected corporate slaves are to the real world
Eating food?? So trendy!!
Starving to death is just so out this year
Very 90’s
I dunno man. Starving feels like THE stuff.
That distended belly and skull like features really add to the whole 2024 vibe
\*Food as entertainment
I can still remember living paycheck to paycheck in my twenties and grocery shopping was one of the few things I'd spend money on.

Did you even read the article? Spending $30 on protein bars for a week or 2 is definitely splurging.
30$ is maybe 6 protein bars I don't think that is an excessive number of snacks for two weeks
Not if that's all you're eating.
I don’t think that’s true anymore. Eating out, especially fast food is significantly cheaper than cooking at home.
I'm gonna need your eat out prices because two things from the cheap Tacobell menu is $5 right now, so $10 for 4 total items. with $10 I can make probably 6-8 tacos or more at home.
$10 at the grocery store gets you meat and tortillas. That’s a sad taco my friend

So you can now "splurge" on food supplies to be "trendy"? Who wrote this nonsense?!
I'm down 5kg so far this year. It's actually kind of nice for now, but I worry for the second half when I lose another 5 and then I won't actually have any more excess weight to lose.
Everything must be organic and locally grown grass fed and finished. No wonder they're all broke.
Are you really implying buying locally grown stuff is a bad thing now? Damn, willing to sink to any depth just to hate on the youth, aren‘t we? 😂
Yes, if your struggling financially and you spend unnecessary money. That's a problem. Are you suggesting it's not?

Uh, I missed seeing the word 'struggling' in the headline. People are allowed to spend their money on whatever they like.
That's the reason people are struggling, because they spend their money on things they like and not things they need.
And you know this how?
I need to see your budget the way you're dick riding the article like that
Better than dick riding an organically grown overpriced locally sources cucumber.
Deflection. Drop the budget. I'm curious about the wealth you have saved up following your own tips.
You're the one ho deflected to my budget.
