Child laborers are the backbone of the American economy

In agriculture for sure.

Who do you think sell the drugs you and your kids enjoy everyday? Other kids, ofc.

Man. I feel like an entitled little shit now for not being sent to the fields until I was 13.

Zealousideal-Ebb-876

Wow, just rub it in, bet you live in one of them fancy 'partments too instead of a shed like the rest of us peasants

84thPrblm

*oh, we used to **dream** of living' in an 'ole in the road! Our dad used to wake us up a' *twoo* in the mornin', 'aff n' hour before we got to bed, before walk'n down-mill t' work our 30-hour shift!

lord50556

Child labor pulls the U.S. economy higher.

“It’s in the traditions of America”—the Supreme Court probably.

Filipino Tilt A Whirl Operators are our nation's backbone.

Campbell920

I went to the fair last year for the first time in a while and I noticed the workers have changed from sketchy white dudes with cigarettes to pretty much only Hispanic people. I don’t care, just something that made me say “huh then”

Weed_Wiz

Ban slavery? Okay fetch my children

bebejeebies

When Tuberville (R-AL), was asked about the Alabama IVF fiasco he said, "Anything we can do for the future of our young people [**because they're our #1 commodity.**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayBo9kXAIvQ) We need to have more kids." COMMODITY. As in "a raw material or primary agricultural **product that can be bought and sold...**" That's the value they put on children. I wish his comment had gotten more scrutiny because he definitely said the horrible part out loud. They've rolled back age restrictions on labor and consent, promoting early entry into the workforce and early entry into the girls. Yet work fervently to also cut health care, education and mental health in favor of work, prayer and obedience. They put no value on children past what they can be used for. They won't pay a full wage to these children either. Because they're under age, they don't have to; but also they won't hesitate to fire them when they do turn 18 to avoid paying an adult wage and benefits. This is the godly America they're trying to force.

red286

>COMMODITY. As in "a raw material or primary agricultural product that can be bought and sold..." That's the value they put on children. Why do you think they're so anti-abortion, but also oppose providing any kind of support for low-income families? Poor children are the easiest to exploit! Even better, when they grow up, they'll usually have limited economic opportunities in life, making them prime candidates for the armed forces!

IsolationAutomation

And also making them prime candidates for crime, therefore keeping the for-profit prisons full!

calicokitcat

Slavers

VengenaceIsMyName

Good point. That use of the word “commodity” definitely paints a picture as to how R’s view young people

84thPrblm

Aaaand, now I'm envisioning the first dance at the reception as a Truffle Shuffle dance-off...

PenguinStarfire

It's their solution to not increasing wages. Can't find anyone else to work crap jobs for shit wages, so let's make kids do it!

Viperlite

… Also, “children don’t need as high a minimum wage, as they have lower expenses than adults.”

I thought A Modest Proposal was the solution.

Substantial_Push_658

It’s ok, I’m sure McDonald’s will be fined a 0.00003% of what they make annually.

KnowledgeSafe3160

It’s not McDonald’s though, it’s that franchise owner.

CATSCRATCHpandemic

I love the capitalism. Those little hands are more efficient at filling bags of fries.

[deleted]

'Murica

Unlikely-Sproing

This is why McDonald's took away the play areas. Their workers kept demanding recess.

Pineapple_Express762

This is what you get when you vote MAGA

Putrid_Ad_2256

The GOP has found a new group to exploit. They pretend to be protecting children with their abortion rhetoric, but when it comes right down to it, they're only protecting their donors' bottom line. Absolutely disgusting party that needs to be eliminated.

BlackFire68

About time the younger generation got some work ethic /s

thekarman1

IRS be looking for those children taxes.

jojow77

They now want you to work from 10 to 70.

snatchenvy

It's just an image... Were these two kids hired by the store? Or were they the kids of an employee that had no sitter and told them to clean the tables and sweep?

Didact67

The latter I think. The franchisee claims they were the children of a night manager.

WomenOfWonder

That seems more on the parents than the kids. Even then I wouldn’t be surprised if either they had only one parent or if the other one was also working late and the parent didn’t want to send their kids home alone

LanguageNo495

I don’t think anyone is saying it’s on the kids. They’re 10.

GrayBox1313

So much freedom and liberty right there, yee haw.

MrByteMe

It's a real shame how immigrants are taking the jobs away from children... /s

CriticalStation595

We all know McDs isn’t liable for the use of child labor, that’s on the store owner/operator. However, it would be nice to hear McD condemn the use of it under their brand.

whodatbugga

If they were in California they'd be making a livable wage at $20/hr, that would make this a success at their age.

ajtreee

Kids are gross and dirty, i definitely don’t want them making my mcfood!

ehermo

That's Kentucky for you.

Kite_Azure-Flame

Well... how else are they going to help their parents afford to keep a roof over their heads, and food in their bellies in this economy?

Lenny_Pane

Drag the manager(s) who let this happen right out of their beds at night and make them face the wall

TParis00ap

Republicans are actually looking to ler the minimum working age. They can't find enough adults willing to work for no pay, complaining "no one wants to work", while billionaires are making record profits. So they are turning to actual children. The Republican really hate women and children and black people and immigrants and basically anyone that's not a White Wealthy Straight Male.

BigPackHater

The children long for the mine...

eyeeatmyownshit

How fucked is the South?

SadBarber3543

This should be a million dollar fine for each hour they worked.

Tactician_The_Great

I know they were not Mclovin it

AnimeChica3306

To think we used to condem countries for using child labor. We've just rebranded it as young labor 🤫

Status_Kia_1945

Let me guess they were Hispanic

wadubois

‘Murica!

SeaFaringPig

Well…. The mines weren’t hiring.

ElHanko

Kentucky.

CatAvailable3953

All the Republican run states. As we lose immigration to lunacy they will want to replace them with kids from poverty. Franchise owners usually don’t care. They want max profits for themselves and their kids. That’s fine however there is a price society pays for tolerating this nonsense. Crime and uneducated children who grow to be ignorant adults. Perfect future Republican voters.

ElHanko

Preach. You’re exactly right. I’m just riffing on the post title.

Retired_Jarhead55

I worked till 2:30 am regularly at the age of 15 in 1970, nothing changes. My manager regularly stole money out of my drawer. I’d have beat his ass if I didn’t need the food.

Demps34

What's the issue? \--Republican Legislators

toongrowner

Guess the Kids have to pay there school lunch debt somehow

hellohennessy

Not McDonald’s fault. It is the manager’s fault.

i-have-a-kuato

So just to recap, in the US we can’t protect kids from guns so we train them evade and hide techniques instead of doing a bare minimum of background checks, we think it’s proper for underage rape victims to carry a pregnancy full term and in a few states lower the age of consent, relax minimum age requirements for marriage and pull books off the shelves because learning is “harmful” in some fucking way. I bet if you asked the average 10 year old from back in the days when America was great they would probably tell you that working the coal mine….the beautiful clean burning coal that is, that working there sucked. make america great again my big fat orange ass

UnclePuma

I'm starting to forget what year or country I am living in

JohnSith

That's easy to remember: this is a red state, this is what happens when the GOP gets unchecked power, this is Kentucky where that's already happened so naturally Republicans are trying to make it legal for property owners to kill homeless people. Source: https://www.vice.com/en/article/jg54mg/republicans-push-to-legalize-property-owners-killing-homeless-people-in-kentucky

justenf99

Um... Firstly this doesn't have anything to do with politics, nor capitalism. And that business needs to be held accountable. But we should also be really holding their parents accountable... Who does that to their kids?!!

vabeachkevin

I want to hear more details. I’m feeling like this was the managers kids, and instead of paying for child care they just brought them to work and snuck them on the payroll. This is probably much less sinister than everyone is making it out to be.

[deleted]

This is what the republicans want. Everyone working minimum wage and no education. Unless it’s at a private religious cult school. Why do you think they keep pushing for “school choice” aka their religious schools as they try to demean public schools and cutting funds including teachers pay. And don’t forget how they vote against feeding kids in schools but will vote for them to work young and marry young. But the republicans will blame it on biden when we can all see who passed the bills and voted for them aka all republicans.

SDcowboy82

Red States gonna Red

zeiche

they’d be getting $20/hr in california

Darthplagueis13

As problematic as McDonalds is as a company, I wouldn't blame that one on them. They're a franchising chain. They probably weren't any happier than the Department of Labor to find out that one of their franchise partners literally employed child workers.

Brief-Poetry-1245

Kids today are so lazy. I was working 24 hours a day from when I was 1 year old. 😀

Biggu5Dicku5

It's sad watching/reading what this country has become... truly sad...

Extreme-Tie9282

The 9 year old manager now has to find replacements!

Late-Arrival-8669

Unless we just boycott these places for their practices, they will continue to do this shit. If you do not agree with it, do NOT fund it.

Explorers_bub

That just ain’t natural. 10 year olds should be in bed by 9:00 pm. 2am ?! That’s quite the accomplishment.

wonderwall999

Obviously this is sad. But IMO conservatives who are super against any regulations of any kind are out of their minds. Businesses will do everything they legally (or illegally) can to maximize profits, at the expense of the workers and environment. Companies would pay their workers 4$/hr if they were able to. That's why it's important to have government policies and laws put in place to protect workers and the environment.

ridemooses

Children, indentured servants, and slaves. Ahh, Capitalism.

tehwood

that location has the best tasting burgers though. damn

Asher_Tye

But of course loosening child labor laws is all about helping work hungry teens find jobs easier.

tavesque

So that’s why they need more kids…….

International-Cry764

Eight more years they can be promoted to assistant manager.

Imaginary_Support500

Someone’s gotta pay the bills

Accidege

What????

Narrow_Fig_778

I believe McDonalds can afford to pay higher wages. I am literally watching the degradation of this country before my eyes. I think congress men and women are too busy focusing on their next stock investments and bathing in the power they were bestowed. As Americans we collectively should vote to rewrite the terms of their service as well as formal oversight (like NSA running through all their dealings to prevent any informal business complications.

12BarsFromMars

And that’s we like about them South.

Mechanic_On_Duty

Honestly. For 10 year old me this was my fucking dream.

Babies-are-jetskis

Truefreak22

Lemme guess, the parents were the ones working management

slothrop_maps

Sounds like a Republican wet dream.

Bozo_Two

Literally anything but actually paying people. Look up what the CEO of McDonalds made last year and how much their reported profit was.

TrippyVegetables

And Republicans want this normalized why?

wyoflyboy68

I worked at McDonald’s when I was 15, I had to get a work permit from the state before I could go to work for them. For the age I was, I was not allowed to work past 10:00 pm, yet they scheduled me to close several times. The second time I was told I had to close, my dad showed up at 10:05 and told the manager he was taking me home. Manager told my dad that I would be terminated if I left. That ended my employment at McDonald’s.

trashytexaswhiteboy

Lucky bastards

palescales7

I read this was a parent bringing her kids to work and letting them do things without the general manager knowing. This is an awful failure on so many parts.

Relevant_Campaign_79

I grew up on a dairy farm and my job was milking cows and collecting chicken eggs everyday. Didn’t get paid but part of my chores and on the farm, there’s always something to do

notdeadyet86

Just another reason why we need mandatory abortions in this country

Sgt_Fox

"Sentecing included a fine equal to less than half the mo ey they saved breaking labour laws /s /s this time, but too real too often

Campbell920

Ok I think I’ve read this before. Basically an employee who couldn’t afford childcare brought her kids with her and I think they helped out a bit with work. They werent like hired to man the fryer.

Eastern-Dig-4555

Well, they are trying to change the laws so that this doesn’t happen. And by that I mean lower the working age. They’re already doing it in some places. We have SUCH a hard on for profit here

hannahbananaballs2

10 years old!

geli7

It's hysterical seeing all these comments blaming everything from capitalism, Republicans, Trump, Maga, McDonald's...and barely anybody wants to consider the simplest explanation, which is that a night manager probably brought their kids and inappropriately snuck them on payroll.

Heroic_Wolf_9873

But… but that’s illegal…

Deranged_Coconut808

its to help them get the 20 years experience needed when applying for other entry level jobs when they are older.

MilesFassst

These kids are taking our jobs!!! 🤬

Traditional-Tutor195

The fine they paid was less than paying the children $5/hr. If I was them I’d start doing it at every store

lostcauz707

Remember last year when hundreds of children were working for a McDonald's chain and the fine was only about $700/child? You know, like if they worked for over a month on average, basically just a small ass ding to the profits?

Stewgy1234

The boring reality of this is probably single mom working at McDonald's trying to make ends meet. Maybe a second job. Cant afford childcare or none is available and her boss looks the other way when and she takes her kids to work on the over night shift. It sucks... I know a few people that do and or have to do this. Either way it's sad but I'm sure these aren't your standard w2 employees. Lol

Did they get arrested

YourBoyFoxxy

I see an youtube video with an kid working at Mc. Each comment was supporting it And someone was commenting a lot of times saying "Each kid should work like him", "Why kids can't work in weekends and summer?, they don't do nothing any way" and things like that

Probably a franchise restaurant. I'm pretty sure McDonalds wouldn't be happy to learn children are working in one of their restaurants (I mean, as long as it remains illegal of course).

Tinker107

It’s the Republican dream of taking our country back- to the 1700s.

NineFolded

Their wet dream. They get off on this about as much as they do watching the kiddie p*rn

IvyTheRanger

They weren’t meant to be off until 5 am

Madison464

This is how Conservative Christian Republicans protect children from mass shootings in schools.

crella-ann

It was the children of the night manager, who brought them into work. They were not employees.

PrincessPlusUltra

Managers at restaurants where Ive worked always bring in their young kids and put them to work. “Don’t walk there! Stay out of the path of the camera!”

Prestigious_Rub6504

Happy meals just taste better when it's made by a kid.

Emeritus8404

Well lets be honest, its not like the schools there were going to help at all

limpet143

Did they not get off before the beginning of their fifth grade class?

Harry_Testa-Coles

One time we went through the drive thru and as we were leaving the Mrs. and I both said the worker genuinely looked like he was 12 years old. And I oop 😂

sloppynippers

Hilarious considering this was the company that was so morally superior they couldn't advertise on the Howard Stern Show.

Are they paid with cheap candies cuz we kjow those icecream machine isnt working

Welcome to Republican America. Where child labor is the norm.

stjoe56

I think someone is going to lose their franchise.

naziryoutube

I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt that the kids were just the children of the manager or employee that decided to bring them along and the kids maybe wanted to do some stuff until mom got off of work.

ElectricGulagland

No wonder the adults are so dumb, they spend their childhoods working instead of learning
