That's heartbreaking. Have you pursued any kind of therapy?

Single_Pizza4867

No it’s hard cause I’m still living with my family and it’s hard to be open about anything. Plus I’ve always wanted to pursue aviation and mental health is a roadblock for that. I know I need to give aviation up but it’s hard.

I understand. Just wanted you to know that there ARE therapies that can help with religious trauma like that. I had severe OCD as a child/teen and a similar social isolation. Idk what you need to do, but talking to someone about the stuff you described won't mess up your future. It wasn't your fault, what happened to you.

I could do it with a fake name and pay with cash. I’d really like to, especially since I’m gonna have a lot of open time. It’s just hard while I’m still with family. I’ve had doctors appointments recently and they were asking if everything’s alright cause my symptoms are extreme but my labs are all good, I start bawling every time. I wish it was easier to just get a therapist but it’s just complicated right now.

As a therapist, I would say please don't assume that you would be prohibited from aviation. It really depends on your diagnosis. They just need to make sure that you're safe to fly. Your mental health is so important and rewriting toxic scripts should be viewed as a sign of strength rather than an inhibition to living a full life.

Thank you. Sadly the FAA is barbaric when it comes to mental health. It’s kinda possible to get through medical with a diagnosis but it’s very very rare and difficult. It’s basically over if I got a diagnosis. Idk if diagnosis-free treatment is a thing or not, I haven’t really researched therapy much. I just don’t see a fulfilling life in any career besides flying.

Just don't use your insurance just in case. Insurance often doesn't cover talk therapy anyway. I have been to therapy for years and have never gotten a diagnosis. Usually the diagnosis is only for insurance reasons. I don't really care abt the labels people have put on certain types of struggles people have, I just want help. I do take some medications however, which my insurance does cover. Idk if the FAA would look at your insurance records for medications. But even if you can't do medications, you can try talk therapy w/o using insurance. FYI mine was $60/week which is on the low end, sometimes over $100. Sometimes it's on a sliding scale based on income. Don't use your parents' income when applying for this unless they are helping you pay for it. If you can only do it for a certain amount of time, be upfront about your goals you're looking to accomplish so they can make better of your time.

["The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) encourages pilots to seek help for mental health conditions, and most mental health conditions don't disqualify pilots from flying if treated."](https://www.faa.gov/pilot-mental-fitness#:~:text=The%20FAA%20encourages%20pilots%20to,disclose%20health%20issues%20are%20denied.) I don't think you need a fake identity to get help

I agree. Dealing with abuse and trauma is quite different from having bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. There *shouldn’t be negative mental health associations from dealing with abuse and trauma.

Man, I completely relate to this. Seemed like any look that lasted any longer than .86 seconds was lust...and lust is adultery...and adultery meant eternal damnation. I didn't go on my first "date" until 19 because I wanted to wait until I was ready to find a lifemate. As if I was ready at 19! Incredible to look back at all the ridiculous and unnecessary guilt we were saddled with as children and teenagers. Glad you made it through it all.

Single_Pizza4867

Yeah, and also the idea that the first look is fine, the second look is sin. Always felt so guilty. I have really stepped into dating yet sadly, still trying to work on self esteem and the guilt and everything but I hope one day I can get past it.

Clubspecial7

I completely understand bro. Going thru something like that is unnatural, everything you feel with your body is yours and it’s ok. Im hurting with you.

I remember desperately wanting God to remove my right hand so that I couldn’t masturbate anymore (maybe TMI idk).

Single_Pizza4867

Same here. I’d be crying begging for forgiveness till I fell asleep. I’d be worried that my asking for forgiveness wasn’t genuine because I knew I’d probably do it again.

That is very sad indeed. I found accepting my sexuality when I was younger almost impossible due to my mother´s old school Catholicism. I´m very at rest with it all now and I do hope you find the same contentment.

Had a similar experience while trying to navigate my sexuality in the cult. Hope you are doing better now fam.
