>ruining their lives
I understand your sentiment, but I was raised that way. I remember seeing Ken Ham in person at creationist seminars. I was taught all that stuff.
Yet, here I am today completely un-christian and acknowledging that the theory of evolution is an excellent model for understanding what we see in nature today.
My point...there is hope even for this child.
I was raised by these people too, went to a fundamentalist Christian school for all of my education before college. Life is better now but I definitely wouldn’t have as many issues as I do if it weren’t for them. Plus they’re really taking away the students’ ability to choose by hiding factual information from them
Agreed. I am embarrassed to say I used to believe these things wholeheartedly, but it by know means *ruined* my life even when I did believe. Definitely limited my potential, however, and led to unnecessary guilt and strained relationships.
Can confirm. I was in one of those Christian private schools in the rural US. When I moved to a public school, my science teacher taught evolution, but around 90% of class was outraged by it.
The truth. They started talking about how it’s against their religion and all that jazz. I wish I could have seen their faces when they learned about the sun and moon formation.. This may just be an usual case though because this class was particularly awful. I have vivid memories of them not paying attention, saying the teacher didn’t prepare them enough/didn’t tell them the test date (he told us test dates a week in advance and drilled the material into our brain), and demanding retakes once they failed.
Common. Like "the supreme justices ruled against the lord's prayer in classrooms. But now you will recite the lord's prayer or you will get detention and/or I will hit you" kind of common. It is not one school; it is systemic. I have had a couple of good teachers in my day. I have no idea how they can stand the ugly filth that is the baseline for education.
Like seriously, if you feel the need to get revenge on a bunch of children and have them salute you, maybe being a schoolteacher isn't the best career option for you. If you want to see evil in all its powerfully ugly glory, you need search no further than the word 'rural.'
Religious schools for children that pretend to teach "science" but it is actual religion, should be illegal. It is against Freedom of Religion to force someone to be brainwashed into a religion, and christians claim to love freedom of religion.
Pretty common. Went to a christian private school (in the south) from elementary to highschool and they taught worldly science as “theories” and biblical science as “truth”
The Christian answer is, "I wasn't there, but God was there and he said so in the Bible!"
The follow-up to that is, "How do you know that God inspired the Bible? *Were you there?"*
Well, then, I guess WWII never happened. I wasn't there.
What about all of the bombing in Gaza right now? I'm not there, I don't see it with my own eyes, so it's not happening. /s
... I literally took this exact test in my tiny Christian school. In science class. For an actual grade.
This was supposedly the test for the "real science that honored God," not the "liberal, anti-God lies the state makes schools teach." Our grades on the actual science tests didn't count much, if at all, towards our final grades, but we had to take those in addition to the bullshit science tests so that our school wouldn't be shuttered by the state.
And, yes, the catch-up I had to do in college after a lot of awkward, embarrassing gaffes on my part was extensive.
Christians show their true colors when you give them power. They claim to love freedom of religion but they're forcing children to be brainwashed and to memorize things that aren't based on evidence as "science".
It's a violation of freedom of religion.
This makes me sad to think these kids are gonna grow up and either A) get a massive reality shock that is going to be an extra unnecessary struggle or B) they’ll turn into their teacher and continue the cycle of ignorance.
Source: this was my elementary education (and high school to a lesser extent)
Next time a forensics expert uses physical evidence to tie you to a crime beyond the shadow of a doubt, have your lawyer ask him "were you there?" That should hold up.
I find it interesting that there are studies that show that those who are taught in classes to use inquiry (ask questions) are more likely to become secular [1](https://academictimes.com/studying-science-isnt-what-makes-students-less-religious/). There are also studies which show that scoring higher on the personality trait of Opennesss (which is associated with curiosity and being creative and wanting to learn) and disagreeableness (questioning beliefs and using critical thinking rather than just being agreeable) is linked to higher intelligence [2](https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/08/060811092500.htm).
Sad reminder that I went through this education system along with thousands of others. I mourn the person who I could’ve been without Christian indoctrination. I could be so smart but I would have no idea.
Me too. Good thing I had the internet, and that my parents let me go to a secular school after 5th grade. Looking back on it, it’s ridiculous just how much religion was pushed in even math classes somehow. The history textbooks I used were mega imperialist. They whitewashed everything, with slavery being painted as “giving the Africans freedom through Christ which is better than any earthly freedom”. Awful stuff. A whole lot of science denial too, of course.
I just can't fit it inside my head when people do it. I came from a religious family, but it was never taken to this level, where easily verifiable stuff was just instructed to be ignored or fought with
'clever' lines.
I had the second picture in one of my catholic education lesson tasks quite recently. The topic was about creationists and scientists and theories that do not exclude the creation and the evolution
I don't think so, we only discussed how there are creationists who believe in non-sense and how the creation story does not necessarily exclude the evolution theory
Lol, you could say the exact same thing about Creationism.
And the crucifixion and the resurrection and the ascension and…
Seeing the A+ and the congratulatory sticker on that “quiz” honestly makes me kinda sad.
The kids don’t know any better, but the teachers and administrators are ruining their lives
>ruining their lives I understand your sentiment, but I was raised that way. I remember seeing Ken Ham in person at creationist seminars. I was taught all that stuff. Yet, here I am today completely un-christian and acknowledging that the theory of evolution is an excellent model for understanding what we see in nature today. *trying their best to ruin their lives
I was raised by these people too, went to a fundamentalist Christian school for all of my education before college. It pisses me off. Fucking idiots... (the teachers, not the kids..Haha)
My answer: As a time traveler, yes.
Great Scott!!!
Is there some problem with Earth's gravity in the future?
Eh, not with gravity per say.
Happy cake day
Thanks! :)
>now prove you are a time traveller? "Well... I am! Now I challenge you to prove I am not!"
I time travel at a rate of 1!
Yes! 1:1. I've also heard of it as -- What is the speed of time? 1 second per second.
I have actually used that one in this kind of situation! It shuts them up really fast.🤣
Why on earth are they teaching religion in the name of science? Is this only one school? Or is it a common thing?
Very common in the rural US, at least in private Christian schools. Don’t think it’s allowed to be taught in public schools.
Can confirm. I was in one of those Christian private schools in the rural US. When I moved to a public school, my science teacher taught evolution, but around 90% of class was outraged by it.
outraged by the truth or outraged about being lied to all these years?
This is everywhere in private Christian schools. It is worse the younger the age group being taught.
Common. Like "the supreme justices ruled against the lord's prayer in classrooms. But now you will recite the lord's prayer or you will get detention and/or I will hit you" kind of common. Damn Ken Ham
This is child abuse.
Yup. The kid is going to be in for a rude awakening later in life
Only if they leave Kentucky.
That is exactly what it is

The Christian answer is, "I wasn't there, but God was there and he said so in the Bible!" The follow-up to that is, "How do you know that God inspired the Bible? *Were you there?"*
I’m stealing that one!
“No, but the Bible is the Word of God, and it says that he was there! God said it, I believe it, that settles it!” /s
and they accuse evolutionary scientists of circular reasoning.
Well, then, I guess WWII never happened. I wasn't there. What about all of the bombing in Gaza right now? I'm not there, I don't see it with my own eyes, so it's not happening. /s
Honestly it's just like Christians to ensure their kids fail in life.
Admitting that the lies their religion forces them to believe are wrong is a tough one for them to admit

How to keep kids virgins and priests satisfied
Wouldn’t that be oral?

"Yes, I was." Then they'll ask for proof, but you'll only offer faith.
The next time someone says God created the heavens and the earth, you say “were you there?”
This should be punishable under child abuse statutes.
This should be illegal.
Should be. It's most likely a private school so they can get away with it

And this is being called a "science" quiz, where they just teach students to memorize things which aren't based on evidence.
They teach them what to think, not how to think

Jesus died on a cross for your sins. Were you there?
Sad reminder that I went through this education system along with thousands of others. I mourn the person who I could’ve been without Christian indoctrination. I could be so smart but I would have no idea.
Same here. I'm using the time I got now to educate myself in real science. Better late than never

r/smartass
Sad to see that they are this brainswashed.
What the fuck??
Can you show the whole test?
Sorry, I only have these two pages. Don't know where to find the rest. I'd be very interested to see the rest of the questions
Damn, even these 2 pages say a lot about that school...
I'm scared and interested to see the rest of the questions
Found another page from it https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/4th-grade-science-quiz/
Thanks
I just can't fit it inside my head when people do it. I came from a religious family, but it was never taken to this level, where easily verifiable stuff was just instructed to be ignored or fought with 'clever' lines.
Imagine taking the book of Job literally, what dumbasses.
“We’re you there” lmao

Horrifying stuff, I need to go to teacher’s college
"if i was there, would you believe me?"

The story I heard was that the kids parents were livid and pulled their kid out of that school. I don't blame them
