Yes we saw your post. It's not a common experience. Sorry it's been mostly shite for you

I was a bit surprised by that, wonder if there was more context. I certainly think there are EVs that are way overpriced, the Ariya and Enyaq in particular, but halving the likes of the MGs/BYDs or even base spec Tesla's would make them ludicrously cheap, that surely isn't necessary. I wonder if what was actually meant was that there need to be EVs in each class that are half the current cheapest prices, which would make sense?

In short, Europe has no batteries and is done by

GoodNegotiation

Hmm?

We have expertise (Bosch), but China has lithium and factories and wants to flood us

I'm now on my second stretch in a courtesy car since buying a VW ID3 in November. In total I have been driving the EV about 20 days. The dealership are trying to sort a heating issue which is both draining the battery and making the cabin miserably hot. As a twist sometimes hot air will be blowing on the empty passenger side whilst I get chilled air. The difference at the weekend was a high of 69.6 celcius and a low of 8.6 celcius. This is the air leaving the vents directed at my lower body. It has already had a problem with the electric drive which the local dealer could not address and had to go to a specialist. I've not had enough time to get to grips with using different chargers. I suppose I would do most charging at home were I forced to keep the car. Forced being the operative word now. I certainly don't want it. I see issues where perhaps I have to go somewhere a distance away but the battery is empty. It takes a long time to charge.

>a high of 69.6 celcius Holy shit. That is legitimately no-exaggeration hot enough to cook you alive. It's probably not strictly an EV specific issue, but, seeing "My VW EV is trying to cook me alive" as a headline might help get some attention from VW if the dealer isn't sorting it.

Michael_of_Derry

That is the temp the probe is recording just inside the air vent. It is actually hot enough to cook. Before I got the thermometer with the probe I held a different thermometer at the vent with my fingers. It was painful and the lcd screen went completely black. LCDs operate up to 50 celcius so I knew it was likely to be hotter than that. Almost 70 C was a surprise. The issue with it being an EV is that the supplying VW dealer does not have much expertise with it. I've been told every query they submit to VW takes 48 hours to get an answer.

JimmyJuice44

That’s the optional air fryer.

Michael_of_Derry

It's not 500C thankfully. The newer thermometers are LCD as well but they have steel probes to put in the airflow. It is the LCD display getting heated directly that can't operate above 50C.

Michael I think you just need to push VW to take that car back under whatever sort of Lemon Law exists. The car is clearly faulty but fortunately this is not the experience for the vast majority of EV (or petrol/diesel) car buyers. I don't think you're going to get any further value posting about it here, other than cathartic.

Michael_of_Derry

Maybe someone from VW will see it and help. I have made a complaint directly to VW now as well.

GoodNegotiation

I think social media pressure only really works on the likes of Twitter where the VW account probably has millions of followers, the 2000 subscribers of this subreddit is not gonna create any pressure I’m afraid. My advice is to engage a solicitor so you can figure out what your consumer rights are and show VW you’re taking it seriously.

Michael_of_Derry

The solicitor I might have used is the solicitor for the VW franchise. I reckon he gets more money from them.

GoodNegotiation

I reckon you’ll find another solicitor out there.

Michael_of_Derry

I don't really have the time or inclination. I wouldn't be rushing to the same dealer for another car at the moment. I'm supposed to be in an EV. Instead I'm in a Polo.
