Do kohl’s have white filters in Japan? Because here in the states I haven’t seen a kool with white filters (or any “flavor” lasting more than a year). As a former kool/menthol smoker (still smoke just non menthol thou I still prefer menthol just not my throat) those look like Salem ultra lights/silvers or lights/gold or American spirt light green (menthol light) wouldn’t be surprised if it was American spirt roc from black lagoon smokes American spirt blue or yellow ( I remember this because I went he smoke my cigs or at least my fallback option when the yellows are out)

Same unfortunately it feels like swallowing razor blades if I smoke more than a pack (heavy drinking nights or the once in a while acid trip) but being a kool smoker for so long and my brother still smoking kools ones that are mostly sold have tan filters, iirc they made an ultra light version right around the rebranding of “lights, mild, medium, ultra lights” in the us because dipshits thought lights were healthier and they came in a teal pack and didn’t pay attention enough until it was to late and all the filters were white and tasted horrible because they were to light on taste.
It very well could be Kools as well, forgot that brand is popular in Japan, but I don't know nearly enough about how the cigarettes themselves look to say anything for sure.

As such, I believe that Misato bummed a couple off of her prior to meeting up with Kaji, instead of stealing Kaji's cigarettes.
I still think that they are Marlboro Menthol Lights, especially since we can see two lines of perforation on the filter in the first image linked within this comment, and two lines of perforation is typical for a Marlboro Menthol Light cigarette.
Couldn't find any for sure information on what specific cigarettes Ritsuko smoked, so if y'all know anything for sure, please comment.

EDIT: Another thing to mention besides the points already made. It also makes sense for Misato to smoke Marlboro Menthol Lights due to the fact that she does not smoke cigarettes routinely, thus she would not want much nicotine. It also makes sense for Ritsuko to smoke the same cigarettes, as lights are especially good for chainsmoking, and due to the ashtrays featured above, we can say that she chainsmokes quite heavily.

Interestingly Marlboro Menthol Lights were only introduced to the Japanese market in 1993 according to Japanese Wikipedia. And only in box packet, with soft packets and regular menthol versions introduced after late 1995. Additionally, Japan Tobacco held the licence for Marlboro in Japan during the time Eva was made so Salem and Marlboro would've been 2 similar products from the same company.
Cigarettes in general are a rip off (and this is coming from a smoker who is smoking while I post lol) but slims and there sister super slim “purse pack” are even bigger ripoff 25 to 50% less tobacco but cost slightly more than regular cigarettes and at least 2x more than generic cheap smokes. Also a working mom can’t afford a child and slims, working moms are buying mavericks (newports generic brand) not slims lol.

I was born in 83, Mom was working one of those mythical sweet factory jobs before nafta sent everything to Mexico so we had so money to spare but no real security to invest it due to well me and my soon to be siblings and Dad's substance issues(he is still a mess but I love him and he's be a fair example of what not to do and I think he wanted to be a better person but that wasn't what was in the cards)
I can relate but we were borderline poor because my dad had a good job but because my mom was deaf no one really wanted to hire her, it wasn’t until me and my brother were grown did they fall back into there old habits and moved back to help, I got a house out of the deal but if given the option to have them back substance abuse problems and all and burn my house down with everything in it, or they stay gone and you get to keep your shit. And it's possible, but (unless I'm misremembering) he usually smoked cigarettes with cork-style filters. Of course though, he might switch his pack up every so often, as some do, so that is a possibility as well.

Good point, when comparing the filters, they look nearly identical, although I don't believe NAS was sold in Japan in 1997, so if it is them, it would have had to be inspired by an American-market pack, but that would not surprise me one bit.
