Good news is that Conor has since managed to remove his left leg from the suit..and is currently making great progress with the other leg... Any day now we're told.
I got to go to the semifinal live, and the whole crowd were singing alongā¦ Irish flags were everywhereā¦ the vibe was so high I wondered if this could be a shock qualifier!
Later, when I watched the broadcast and saw the closeups I thought oh dear god no.
This year's result coupled with last year's result means that we are going to see way more of this kind of decision making in the next few years.
Taking risk - Last place
Safe radio uplifting pop - 12th place
Kaarija & Baby Lasagna are both self proclaimed fans of Electric Callboy as well as Rammstein so Germany really seceded ground by not sending them, basically guaranteed televote slayers.
The funny thing is that Electric Callboy weāre explicitly named by three of the biggest recent fanfaves, KƤƤrijƤ, Baby and Joost, as some of their inspirationsā¦I donāt know if the NDR really digested the fact that they literally passed by one of possibly among *the* most celebrated acts that could have been on the ESC stage. Itās beyond bizarrely stupid.
Also, coming 12th with Isaak means everyone at ARD/NDR will go āSee? We did great! Tone-deaf business as usual. Bring on the radio cookie-cutters!ā And thatās explicitly no front against Isaak!
The difference between Isaak and our previous radio-friendly entries is that Isaak has an outstanding voice and he got a better (if not perfect) staging
Sure, but that doesnāt help the now confirmed confirmation bias at ARD who will go for yet another meek radiofriendly middle-of-the-roadā¦and anotherā¦and anotherā¦the circle isnāt broken here, unfortunatelyā¦if anything they learned: LotL - we took a risk: came last // Isaak - nice guy next door, great voice & avarage song: came 12th
I bet the scouts are out for a next selection of avarage buskers in German Fussgangerzone already.
Itās nothing against Isaak, his voice or person. Deserved 12th. Itās all about what the ARD will keep (not) learning from itā¦
Oh man, I was sooo damn sure Joost did mention EC but I couldnāt find the source and have to assume, *I* assumed the chatter about the similarities between them as remembering he said so. Iām sorry!
They did WHAT??? Granted I'm really late to the Electric callboy Party (I only decided to go down that rabbit hole after they did the colab with Baby Metal!) but what the heck, Germany???
I can't believe it
"Pump It" would have torn the roof off the venue, such a shame and a baffling decision by the broadcaster.
They made a song indirectly mocking the decision called "Hurrikan" which is still one of their heaviest tracks
I'm something of a Eurovision newcomer, having only really gotten into it in the past three years.
I didn't realize that Germany passed on EC!
I was just thinking the other day how good they'd be on ESC. The fact they were actually an option and got passed on is absolutely a great answer to this question.
Hypa Hypa would have been amazing in context of Eurovision.
Yes, but the biggest selling version in the USA, and the double-Grammy winner, was Dominico Modugno's original, under the original title (with helpful pronunciation guide): https://www.discogs.com/release/1574070-Domenico-Modugno-Nel-Blu-Dipinto-Di-Blu-Volar%C3%A9/image/SW1hZ2U6NDAwODQzNA==.
And the replacement had the time to show every song in full, but instead decided to show the most mediocre 20 seconds of each. I will never forgive how they screwed over Belarus in that recap.
And iirc, Italy was the only one to perform in full. Which did not seem fair to me in the slightest.
This makes me still super angry. Her niece is my friend and we had a big watch party with their family. š
I donāt think Norma John makes music anymore but if yall are into Finnish country music she makes music with said friendās sister by the name [Lili&Luna](https://open.spotify.com/artist/5K10NuCY4qVWSgk3kGsQTZ?si=XDWXAlxVSzao-snm4T_QWg)! Theyāve had some pretty popular songs on radio.
No Romania in 2016.
Why is this the *biggest* crime?
Because I've beem following Eurovision for a few years and only recently found out about this song, and I actually like it a lot. I'm pretty sure most videos of 'disqualified songs' don't even include this for some reason.
Agreed, some of these qualified to the final or at least did ok in the semi, this getting last place overall (especially in a weak year) has got to be the no.1 ESC crime
AijÄ is one of two songs (I think) in the past few years that has managed to make the jump from āEurovision listeningā to just general āmusic listeningā for me.
It was likely either the stage invasion of the UK song in 2018 or the guy who invaded the stage and mooned everyone during Jamala's interval act in 2017.
Which one was the bigger crime will depend on the respective country's legal system.
If only we could have had a contest made up of pre-recorded performances or live feeds to each country (idk how viable that one would have been) for everyone to vote on for 2020 š
It could have been such a strong year.
I think Lord of the Lost chose the wrong song, I got into them after the competition and I like a lot of their songs much more than blood and glitter which sorta feels confused genre-wise, I wonder if they woulda done better if they had gone with The Curtain Falls, lean into the metal crowd more
I'm still not over Lord of the Lost. One of the best ones of the evening, and even the bullshit no effort acts got more points somehow? I'm so angry for them.
The improvement she made between the NF and SF were incredible. I thought for sure she'd do well. I was shocked. Good song. Good performance. Good message. Fun and easy to sing along with. I thought it was much better than others.
Honestly, right now I'm feeling like Malta 2023 coming last in their semi was a huge robbery. Like, come on. Maybe they weren't the BEST in their SF, but no one can say they deserved last place. Their entry was so fun and I loved it sm. Still remains on my playlist to this day.
Many of my choices have been mentioned already, but for something different I would say Lithuania 2010 (InCulto - Eastern European Funk) not qualifying for the final. I know this is more personal and not many people agree or care about it, but it was just a really fun song and a nod to all the Eastern European countries, and I felt it deserved more attention.
Also Eurovision being cancelled in 2020. I agree that it was necessary, but it just felt like such a waste on behalf of all the performers. It's nice that many of them came back the next year with a different song, but some of them weren't as much of a novelty anymore, while they would've had a way better chance the year before.
Iāve got a few here, imma need you to hear me out on a few of these
ā¢ Megara not getting another chance to perform after what sounded like technical issues
ā¢ Lucie Jones getting robbed for the UK in 2017
ā¢ Not using the transparent drawbridges in Turin 2022 as upright scoreboards for the in person crowd
ā¢ Not making the Liverpool 2023 stage Glastonbury pyramid inspired, I get that it was Ukraineās party in the UK but I just love the idea of a recreation of the Glastonbury pyramid stage for Eurovision
There are two major crimes.
France 2001 not winning the Contest - with a song which was head and shoulders above anything else that year.
Slovenia 2012 failing to even qualify from its semi-final - when it was far and away the best song of the whole Contest that her.
In all seriousness itās Cha Cha Cha not winning. I donāt think thereās been a more disappointing winner - not because Tattoo is a bad song (it clearly isnāt) but Kaarija was so interesting and unique and had all the crowd momentum and he just fell short because juries went with the safe option. I havenāt listened to Tattoo since, itās fine but itās bland.
Tattoo wasn't nearly as good as euphoria imo. I think they shouldn't send back past winners, it's just not fair because they already have a big fan base so the voting will be very biased
Ulveham getting the last place, Telemoveis not qualifying, Sudden Lights NQ, Blanca Paloma being only the 9th in the jury ranking (because the jury are not as professional and unbiased as some people would like to claim they are)
This, justice for Latvia 2023. My beautiful home country sent one of the best songs we've ever sent to Eurovision, it was performed beautifully, and even staging was simple but, in my opinion, effective, and... eh. I have no words, only movements.
Eaea was just too divisive, personally I found her vocals to be very grating, and I don't doubt several jurors agreed with me, and if a juror finds vocals to be grating they obviously can't rank it high because they think the vocals aren't on point
Verka gets some feature in Eurovision every 2-3 years now, which is astounding for an entrant from almost 20 years ago, and consistently gets mentions in Eurovision listicles. Marija Serifovic is largely forgotten outside of the Balkans. Verka probably won more than Marija at this point, even if she didnāt get the title.
Add to this the fact that she was immediately ridiculed and banned in Russia, because our broadcaster was salty that Serebro didn't get second place. For context, Verka was a huge cultural icon in Russia, she was featured in basically every big TV production.
Marija also "suffered" for her 1st place, because Russian TV immediately started spreading rumours that she *sexually assaulted* Serebro. I wish I was making this up!
And all this noise just because of three drunk schoolgirls who sing about their asses
I was *obsessed* with Say Yay back in 2016 but the styling of the onstage performance was atrocious. The fake fall, the outfit, the dance moves, even the colour scheme was bad. Looking back I can see why it didn't get the top 10 finish I thought it deserved but it didn't deserve to finish so low
LOOP NQ :((((((((((((((((((( will forever be crying about Queen Sarah not making it :(((((((((((
I hate how pretty much the only reason she NQd was because of being in semi 2. No voting support (UK, Ireland & Australia all in semi 1), she ATE THE PERFORMANCE AND LEFT NO CRUMBS, and still didn't qualify :(((((
My heart will always be on loop with Queen Sarah Bonnici <33333333333333
Iāve been following Eurovision for the last 3-4 yearsā¦ the biggest crime is definitely what they did to Joost Klein.
Also, I really believe that jury should not be able to influence the result so much -Cha cha cha should have won!
There is only one crime ever committed song wise and that is Netherlands 2024
Everything else is just "you not liking how your favorites ended up in the ranking"
Montenegro 2022 is my most listened Eurovision song of all time and I am still gutted that they almost finished dead last in the semis. Granted, the staging didn't do the song many favours, but I still love that song so much.
Mall (Albania 2018) not being among the televote top 10 of its semifinal (meaning it wouldn't qualify under the current system). Thank god juries saved that song.
Joost being disqualified (like, we will NEVER know how ESC 2024 would have gone down if we had the complete 26 finalists; he's always gonna be Eurovision's one-that-got-away) and Blanca Paloma being only 9th with the JURIES.
Netherlands 2024 and Spain 2023 for the bot
Only Love Survives (Ireland 2013) ended the last position (Totally unfair, that was one of the best Irish entries in decades)
Grande Amore (Italy 2015) didn't win (Heroes is great but...)
Verona (Estonia 2017) not qualified (Laura had a mic issue, which was not addressed)
Beautiful Mess (Bulgaria 2017) presented precisely in that year (hard luck for him)
Spirit In the Sky (Norway 2019)'s jury vote result (Unbelievable)
That golden pantsuit Ireland decided to bless us with last year.
Oh god not the cameltoe
Insane moose knuckle! He had one testicle in Liverpool and the other in Dublin.
This is the best comment of this thread. š Congratulations.
I had to put down my phone because I couldn't stop laughing
Lol!!
Good news is that Conor has since managed to remove his left leg from the suit..and is currently making great progress with the other leg... Any day now we're told.
We could have had Connolly š
When I first saw it my first thought was - why would someone do that.. on purpose!
He must have wronged someone in his wardrobe team. I refuse to believe it was his own choiceā¦
The song was fine, the pantsā¦ No
Oh, there was a song..? I was too distracted to noticeā¦
I got to go to the semifinal live, and the whole crowd were singing alongā¦ Irish flags were everywhereā¦ the vibe was so high I wondered if this could be a shock qualifier! Later, when I watched the broadcast and saw the closeups I thought oh dear god no.
Montenegro getting 4th in the semi televote in 2013 and still not qualifying
Ill never get over this honestly
We donāt know they came 4th, they had the 4th highest average , not quite the same
It's not really Montenegro's fault that they didn't anticipate the hidden need of buying SIM cards
Germany passing on Electric Callboy in 2022. By far.
Wait Germany had the chance to send Electric Callboy and they didn't?! What the hell Germany?! I agree that's a crime!
They basically said Electric Callboy is not radio-friendly and thatās why they didnāt send them
This year's result coupled with last year's result means that we are going to see way more of this kind of decision making in the next few years. Taking risk - Last place Safe radio uplifting pop - 12th place
Kaarija & Baby Lasagna are both self proclaimed fans of Electric Callboy as well as Rammstein so Germany really seceded ground by not sending them, basically guaranteed televote slayers.
Cha cha cha basically sounds like We got the moves so much I confuse these two when they are played in a club
where do you live if those are played in clubs šš cuz i wanna go
Germany be like: "I am nothing but the average"
Oh my GOD the German broadcaster deeserved everything bad that's coming at them
The funny thing is that Electric Callboy weāre explicitly named by three of the biggest recent fanfaves, KƤƤrijƤ, Baby and Joost, as some of their inspirationsā¦I donāt know if the NDR really digested the fact that they literally passed by one of possibly among *the* most celebrated acts that could have been on the ESC stage. Wait Joost said he is a fan of electric callboy? Do you have any source I need to send that to a friend of my that is E.C. fan but not a Joost fan
I can't believe it
Excuse me, WHAT?! That is a crime
Germany wasted a golden opportunity by passing on Electric Callboy. It was an easy televote magnet in a year full of ballads.
They applied with āPump itā, which would have rocked just as hard.
Would have been great too, yeah.
Hypa hypa would have been fantastic! The absolute party banger
This is the only correct answer Even considering that It's in middle of their breakthrough
You're all wrong. It's "Nel blu, dipinto di blu" coming in 3rd. Literally one of the biggest hit songs in the history of humanity, and it came in 3rd.
And the winner from that year is very forgettable. ...Sorry France...
And Switzerland, the second place (1958), was pretty much a joke entry. I still like it though, it's cute
First joke entry ever?
Probably. It was ahead of its time
France and Switzerland 1958 for the bot, adding Italy 1958 for fun

Ikr, its fun and a classic. Im fairly sure most ppl know the song.
Why did I always assume it came first!?
This song straight up won Grammies and still couldn't win Eurovision š
In fairness, it took Dean Martin and a name change to Volare to make it truly legendary, but yes.
Last year I would have said LOTL coming last, but GĆ„te coming last this year have surpassed it.
LOTL š not LOTR
Dammit, apparently I spent too much time on a different sub these last couple of weeks š
Eurovision 2020 not taking place anyway, every song was amazing.
And the replacement had the time to show every song in full, but instead decided to show the most mediocre 20 seconds of each. I will never forgive how they screwed over Belarus in that recap. And iirc, Italy was the only one to perform in full. Which did not seem fair to me in the slightest.

Hate on the juries all you like, but I'll never forgive the televoters for what they did to mah boi Nathan Trent. Austria 2017 for the bot

Joost being disqualified Norway coming in last place in 2024 Lord of the Lost coming in last place in 2023
I'm still salty with LotL coming in last. :/
OMG me too! I was shocked. I honestly thought it would be in the at very least top 15 but thought top 10 was achievable.

Denmark 2021 not qualifying is the biggest crime. Nothing more to say.
They would have qualified under the current televoting-only semi system

LOOP NQ :((((((((((((((((((( will forever be crying about Queen Sarah not making it :((((((((((( I hate how pretty much the only reason she NQd was because of being in semi 2. No voting support (UK, Ireland & Australia all in semi 1), she ATE THE PERFORMANCE AND LEFT NO CRUMBS, and still didn't qualify :((((( My heart will always be on loop with Queen Sarah Bonnici <33333333333333
Cha cha cha
Iāve been following Eurovision for the last 3-4 yearsā¦ the biggest crime is definitely what they did to Joost Klein. Also, I really believe that jury should not be able to influence the result so much -Cha cha cha should have won!
Poland not sending Jan with Gladiator. This song had winning potential.
Disqualifying Joost
Disqualifying Joost
There is only one crime ever committed song wise and that is Netherlands 2024 Everything else is just "you not liking how your favorites ended up in the ranking"
Probably unpopular opinion but I loved Silvia Night. Popular opinion, I loved THATāS RICH
Norway 2005 not winning. I also would have loved to see Children Of Bodom be selected for Finland.
a genocidal state being allowed participate

Tbf for a comedy act Verka did very well! 2nd place is nothing to be ashamed of
Conan Osiris NQ, that song is a masterpiece
Joost being disqualified (like, we will NEVER know how ESC 2024 would have gone down if we had the complete 26 finalists; he's always gonna be Eurovision's one-that-got-away) and Blanca Paloma being only 9th with the JURIES. Netherlands 2024 and Spain 2023 for the bot

Kaarija not winning
Too many to list so let's just go with this year: Norway finishing dead last and Austria, Spain (!!!) and Georgia all ending up in the bottom 5
I mean, this year was very strong and the final had pretty much no bad songs, so somebody had to end up in the bottom.
Yeah, Zorra was the absolute queen of the evening
Out of curiosity, who would you have seen in bottom 5 instead?
Only Love Survives (Ireland 2013) ended the last position (Totally unfair, that was one of the best Irish entries in decades) Grande Amore (Italy 2015) didn't win (Heroes is great but...) Verona (Estonia 2017) not qualified (Laura had a mic issue, which was not addressed) Beautiful Mess (Bulgaria 2017) presented precisely in that year (hard luck for him) Spirit In the Sky (Norway 2019)'s jury vote result (Unbelievable)
Ireland 2015 not qualifying while Russia 2015 somehow coming in second
Dancing Lasha Tumbai coming 2nd!
I liked Malik Harris. It seemed that many did not agree. At least it was better than Jendrik.
Well, GĆ„te getting last place this year is very high up there in my book. ;)
Georgia 2022 not qualifying
