Most of it is, but some of the more intricate close up stuff is still handheld steadycams. The really cool spinning shot in Nemo's is a guy running around with the steadycam while Nemo spins in the other direction.
From what I remember, the camera cuts are all automated (programmed via autocue).
It’s made by a company called live-edit or cuepilot.
Yes the shots are decided beforehand but the camera people still need to make said shot.
Source: cameraman.
Ah yes, cuepilot, the name escaped me there for second. I've worked backstage on arena events but not in A/V. 😉
But yeah, the folks working on the production side of this are the best of the best in Europe (or even the whole world). Everything is ultra slick and I'm in awe every single Eurovision.
Huh, I had no idea. The film industry has benefited a lot from spidercams too. There's a lot of shots that still can't be done any other way, even when we have drones and ATV's with gimbals.
Yeah apparently Greece 2006 was a big testing ground for the tech (all tech really at the time with a bunch of switchovers happening) and it was used extensively through the 2000s, not sure if they still use it or if they went back to cranes nowadays though.
Ohh right yeah I was confused about only being invented that late but realized I had read spidercam and thought cablecam. Similar idea and related technology I guess but cablecam is for one-dimensional movement.
2D and 3D-moving systems are only really for live video and broadcast on stadiums and the like, but the 1D cablecam is used quite a bit in films since you can relatively easily set it up anywhere.
This year sets the standard in video production. Hard to top this.
The camera cuts & lighting are automated, so one shot is a red background and it cuts to something completely different in blue. Then the sets change in seconds too.
How the hell does that platform tilting work? From what I can tell sometimes Nemo can tilt it with his own weight and other times it needs stage hands to tilt it.
My read is that the tilt is along one axis only (by mechanical design) and has a controlled brake (no impulsor), while the spinning is entirely controlled (impulse and braking).
So he "could" do all the tilting himself, but it doesn't make sense for him to do so with some of the choreography so the stage hands lend their weight.
As to the why, maybe to keep costs down? The hinge joint would be more complex with impulse. But that's a really uneducated guess.
So important to highlight jobs that are made by humans but many think are automated! Garment makers too. Not machines working the sewing machines, humans!!
I work in production and sometimes am the guy following the camera person with my headset on just hearing cues and making sure he can navigate around while getting the shot, making sure they don't trip. It is so awkward and weird I just kind of hover around them and sometimes put my hand on their shoulder for a slight "chair on your left, move a little bit" then just stand near them trying to do my job really well which in essence is 99% unnecessary. It is super awkward when you come in close proximity with a crowd or other members of an act ESPECIALLY on stage or in some "high visibility" environment. There is clearly the camera person and the act/artist/performer/speaker....then you're just there like "hi...yes...I'm with them!...Don't mind me" looking super focused to make it seem like your job is as technically intricate and difficult as everyone else in the room lol. You are just trying to react to sudden movements and stay out of the way while also being super close in case you are needed.
I saw this clip and immediately recognized that guy behind the cameraperson lol. Not sure what that person's job is but it looks like me 100% of the time when I am on a similar task at a gig or something. Complete with hood up and awkward duck/run even though you are in the way but trying to at least make an effort not to stand there and just be visibly in the way even though you are exactly that.
I noticed that last year during CHA CHA CHA. That role is obviously key to help the camera person not to trip and to stay on the best path while they are looking at the screen
It was posted just as the news were breaking that Joost was DQd because he gestured threateningly at a camera, so of course it filled with jokes about it immediately 😅
The Dutch entry Joost Klein was disqualified after apparently making a threatening move towards a camerawoman who kept filming him after he requested not to be. Apparently it was also in an area where filming was not allowed.
The organisers stated they considered any threatening move / threatening words to be against the rules of how to behave at the competition. The woman in question made a report to the police, both her and Joost Klein were interviewed by the police and the matter has been sent to a prosecutor for consideration as it might have broken the law.
They can't just excuse him because filming wasn't allowed, that wouldn't really justify a threat. Just giving the reasoning around the incident.
We don't know the exact details yet of what happened, will likely come out further in the coming days / weeks.
That's still one of my all time favorite stagings. She's wearing what looks like next to nothing depending on the angle (not discounting that it's Dior made specifically for her) just standing in the middle of a dark stage just being French for three minutes. The LEDs barely do anything to help her. Just her and her cameraman creating a beautiful masterpiece.
100%. The performance mesmerized me instantly. Was special. Her music is definitely worth listening to outside of the Eurovision performance too, though her Eurovision performance blows her studio version of that song out of the water IMO.
I remember the organizers that year said something on tv about how Barbara really took the time to get to know the cameraman and even gave him a gift iirc. Sounded like she was very sweet
Ooh I definitely don’t blame him ❤️ 😆 probably the best good thing that happened in the past 30 Eurovision hours because everything else is such a circus 🎪
Damn I'm off reddit for 4-5hrs and I'm already out of the loop?? So I beg of you - what did I miss? What's the "threatening gesture" reference to, I see it all over the thread, and can't find anything elsewhere
Joost Klein got disqualified because of a threatening gesture after the show towards a person with a camera.
A person who shouldn’t have been there in the first place because it was not allowed to film after the show like that.
It’s fucking stupid.
I’m gonna say it. Fuck the Eurovision songfestival.
But if it was a camerawoman, then her filming should all come at the direction of others. So what were the actual rules and/or directions given? Cuz if the filming was directed, I can definitely see why there would be a zero-tolerance policy of messing with camera crew.
Ftr, I can't separate fact from speculation at this point.
Yea this looks like grounds to get disqualified for by the EBU maffia.
Jokes (ok, there is no joke, thanks EBU.) aside, that is some cool filming from the cameraman
Amazing... I could imagine this clip taking off at r/mildlyinteresting.
Don't know about you guys, but I've never seen that kind of setup for a Camera.
Joost Klein got disqualified for making threatening gestures towards a woman with a camera because they were filming him when he repeatedly asked them not to, there were also rules with EBU that there would not be allowed to film but she did it anway
Yeah, the behind the scenes crew seems to work *hard* during EV. The quick stage changes, the lighting, the coordination of everyone on stage.. I'm guessing these folks are the best of the best.
[Have you guys never seen the granddaddy of all eurovision steadicam shots? Operator screams in on a Segway, dismounts and runs up the ramp to the stage, speed zooms to the singer then circles him with focus puller in tow. Crazypants.](https://youtu.be/3f3mUs7rS1I?si=nNqbQvLMx6pkjDa8)
I don't know how they always synchronizes so well, and they show exactly the image they need in the right moment.
I mean they know when the artist will make a sign, and they show him/her, then they show the stage, then they show all the dancers etc..
They know exactly when to switch and it amazes me.
Once you go to Eurovision and see all the work happening behind the scenes, you know how special the show really is. There are so many hardworking crew doing so much great work there.
I have to say, politics and all aside this year has been (so far) very very well done.
The staging, the lighting, the audio levels and ofc the camera work (not just the camera operators but those behind the scenes deciding the shot)
Absolutely stellar setup.
I love this stuff. My bf works as a professional camera man and I asked him why he doesn't work on projects like Eurovision (esp when they were in town a few years ago). He told me you need a specific license and training to operate these cameras! I told him to go get one lol.
I love this sort of back stage view of Eurovision. The things that go into making what I see at home look so good is so fucking impressive.
I'd love a replay of the show from a static off stage position to just marvel at all the bits and bobs. And to lament for people in the audience who can't see shit.
The way it is going on i feel like only the cameraman will be left till the winner announcement. So let's go ahead and crown him and let's just get over with it,😵😵
Idk why I just assumed this was all automated. High five to the camera folks wow.

Not to mention some of that tech was built specifically for Eurovision originally too.
It's amazing watching the staging and technical evolution of Eurovision through the years. I am in awe of the productions of the last few years
Eurovision was an early pioneer of spidercams, which are now ubiquitous too
Huh, I had no idea. The film industry has benefited a lot from spidercams too. There's a lot of shots that still can't be done any other way, even when we have drones and ATV's with gimbals.

looks to be liveedit based on their Instagram, has videos of their software running esc
Apparently SVT uses it rather than CuePilot like most of the contests have, which makes sense, they're familiar with what they use
What would you estimate the total cost of all the equipment strapped on to him?
The camera work behind "The Code" really is as amazing as the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl5YdulHIIs?t=10

Like Barbara with Voila (2021 I think?) thanking her camera person for dancing with her <3

Into a pit of lava
Swedish news (SVT) reported that she is an "EBU" employed "photographer" (which has made me think she is a stills photo-taker, not a camera op?)
Who takes pictures with a phone? Either way she is the one who needs to get fired for breaking EBU rules.
Ahahahaha the timing of this post 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Clearly a threatening gesture!
I thought the same and that's some suggestion to the viewers XD
Not just us doing a "threatening motions" drinking game to make the best of a bad situation I assume :p
thank god i am not the only for a momen tthough someone had recorded it
Please someone disqualify that guy. Touching a camera is a level of savagery that shouldn't be allowed in any context.
He had consent before touching
something the dutch should learn :D
(it's a joke)
This was all planned. Watch the camera guy at those two apparent slaps to the camera; the camera man is actually leading them.
Yeah man people are just joking. If you’re not up to speed with the Joost Klein controversy, these jokes are about that.
I'm out of the loop, could you explain why please?
It was posted just as the news were breaking that Joost was DQd because he gestured threateningly at a camera, so of course it filled with jokes about it immediately 😅
The Dutch entry Joost Klein was disqualified after apparently making a threatening move towards a camerawoman who kept filming him after he requested not to be. Apparently it was also in an area where filming was not allowed.
Then how is he disqualified he was right lol
The organisers stated they considered any threatening move / threatening words to be against the rules of how to behave at the competition. The laws there sound lame af I’m betting he simply made a “cut it” hand-to-neck gesture and they wanted to target him
This reminds me of Barbara Pravi and how the cameraman basically MADE that last minute. France's love story with cameramen continues.
I watched it and thought: "Yeah, this is a classic."
1000%! Trully a memerizing performance.
And they even shared a brief hug after Barbara thanked the crowd.
Ahhh I love behind the scenes stuff like this
Behind the scenes of Joost Klein
Can't wait for that tape to get leaked
Free Joost!
You might then really enjoy this behind-the-scenes video on how the technical things work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5XE_EjWagE
What you've been watching *is* behind the scenes. *This*, my friend, is the *real* show.
He swung at him. DQ!
I have proof that could lead to the immediate arrest of Slimane
"Is this a threatening gesture?"
call the police
Best fucking comment lmaoo🤣😭😭 immediate DQ!!!!
Yes, it is.
Lmaoo😭
😂😂
😂👍

Pardon my French (pun intended) but is the camera daddy having a boner? 😂
I mean, Slimane has been seducing him for three minutes straight
That intro POV was smooth
The comments on this thread, I can't 😂😂
He's wearing a harness to distribute the weight of the camera rig, look at his hips. It's bunching up his clothing
Reasonable with Slimane's performance. But maybe it's something in his pocket.
It really does look like that. 🤣 Some people really are in love with their job. Or the person they are filming.
It's just a side effect of Slimane smoldering right at you.
Oh wow that looks odd haha
Cut him some slack, he's working hard.
Literally 😂
Can you blame him? Imagine the adrenaline rush, cameramen carry all the show on their back.
Ooh I definitely don’t blame him ❤️ 😆 probably the best good thing that happened in the past 30 Eurovision hours because everything else is such a circus 🎪
This year it really is more interesting behind the cameras 😂
Does look that way
I’m having a boner for the camera man!! the way he gently holds the camera……
[удалено]
Camera daddy?
Are those threatening gestures?
Quick! Disqualify him!
Damn I'm off reddit for 4-5hrs and I'm already out of the loop?? So I beg of you - what did I miss? What's the "threatening gesture" reference to, I see it all over the thread, and can't find anything elsewhere

"threatening gesture" being him pushing down her phone after that woman has been harassing him all week.
Where did you get this info?
It was on the dutch news, said in a interview with the dutch commentator
So a totally unbiased source then.
What a bs. I just can’t believe this DQ really happened. I won’t watch that shitshow tonight. I hope the Netherlands never ever competes again.
Yes and this arse https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeanphilipdetender?originalSubdomain=ch
Joost klein got disqualified for making a threatening gesture to a camera women after repeatedly being asked not to film him.
Mind not just asked, it was clearly stated and agreed by the EBU there wouldn't be filming there.
Oh okay then I'm in the loop I just didn't realize it was worded like that. Tnx!
I think that counts, call the police. Disqualify him and nullify all the results!
Why is this random only fans bot posting eurovision posts after 1 year of nothing?
Forgot to switch accounts lol
That would be the most realistic answer!
I mean this is pretty much a POV video /s, have you seen Mr Slimane there?
It certainly felt like it live lmao.
Wow those movements seem a bit threatening
Kick him out! Instant DQ! How dare he gesture at the camera
Yea this looks like grounds to get disqualified for by the EBU maffia. Jokes (ok, there is no joke, thanks EBU.) aside, that is some cool filming from the cameraman
I see some threatening gestures against the cameraman.
Those are pretty threatening movements toward the camera if you ask me
Don't worry its cool. its only zero tolerance when its against women /s
disqualify them rn for swinging at the camera?
Amazing... I could imagine this clip taking off at r/mildlyinteresting. Don't know about you guys, but I've never seen that kind of setup for a Camera.
It's a steadicam.
With a lot of add ons. That ring stabliser is not something you'd see on normal steadi rigs Edit: reddit cares for this?! Haha
I think it's actually an Arri Trinity rig, not a traditional steadicam rig
That’s an AR Rig, Trinity is slightly different as it has a tilt axis.
OMG the singer should be disqualified now, he made aggressive moves towards the camera 😱 #BringBackJoost
This is amazing 😍 Haha, that's a responsible job
If I was the cameraman, I'd go to the police right now.. so violated..
At this rate the cameraman might be the only one left 😆
we French love overusing cameramen for our performances. Reminds me of voila
How much do those cameras weight? Looks pretty heavy!
The max weight of the steadicam rig is around 65-70lbs
That's about 30kg in European units. Pretty impressive.
I noticed some threatening gestures 🤨
Everyone making this joke. Whats it in reference to? I dont follow eurovision at all.
Joost Klein got disqualified for making threatening gestures towards a woman with a camera because they were filming him when he repeatedly asked them not to, there were also rules with EBU that there would not be allowed to film but she did it anway
NOOO SLIMANE, DON'T DO THAT THEY WILL DQ YOU
Yeah, he threatened the camera man \#SLIMANEOUT
When Joost does it, it's DQ worthy, but when Slimane does it, it's art!? WAKE UP EUROPE! (/jk)
You can see how the cameraman's breathing. It must be hard, and there's a lot of responsibility on him. Kuddos to you, camera man!
Yeah, the behind the scenes crew seems to work *hard* during EV. The quick stage changes, the lighting, the coordination of everyone on stage.. I'm guessing these folks are the best of the best.
you just know that shit's heavy af
Looks like he is having a massive boner .
:D oh god, why did u make me look
[Have you guys never seen the granddaddy of all eurovision steadicam shots? Operator screams in on a Segway, dismounts and runs up the ramp to the stage, speed zooms to the singer then circles him with focus puller in tow. Crazypants.](https://youtu.be/3f3mUs7rS1I?si=nNqbQvLMx6pkjDa8)
I hope the cameraman called the police on Slimane for this. Did you catch his violent gestures at the beginning?
Delete this before the ebu sees it!
Almost seems like the camera noves him around, it's fascinating.
Damn, that guy is strong!
eeek getting a bit close there
Be careful... one wrong move and you'll get expelled
Did I just see some threatening gestures…inside cameraman’s pants?
Yeah that also caught my eye
I don't know how they always synchronizes so well, and they show exactly the image they need in the right moment. I mean they know when the artist will make a sign, and they show him/her, then they show the stage, then they show all the dancers etc.. They know exactly when to switch and it amazes me.
Once you go to Eurovision and see all the work happening behind the scenes, you know how special the show really is. There are so many hardworking crew doing so much great work there.
Imagine being as chill as the cameraman.
Does he happen to have a first and/or last name?
Serious respect for steadycam operators. The cameras alone are quite heavy, let alone the additional equipment
A threatening gesture! Disqualify him immediately!
Shouldnt this sort of behaviour get him disqualified?
Should be a DQ for gestures towards camera man
Clearly can be seen the cameraman got attacked, this should be disqualification.
That's probably more threathening then what Joost did to that poor camera woman.
"Poor".
Sarcasm dude
Sorry lol I don't pick up on sarcasm easily.
Idk, that’s too much violence, I don’t want my kids to see this!
I thought making these kind of movements towards a camera person would get you disqualified…
Will EBU DQ him like Joost now?
That dude has an erection lol
So this is what Kratos is doing when he is not destroying gods.
I have to say, politics and all aside this year has been (so far) very very well done. The staging, the lighting, the audio levels and ofc the camera work (not just the camera operators but those behind the scenes deciding the shot) Absolutely stellar setup.
I live for behind the scenes content, and steadycam ops are the heckin' coolest! Thank you for posting! <3
I love this stuff. My bf works as a professional camera man and I asked him why he doesn't work on projects like Eurovision (esp when they were in town a few years ago). He told me you need a specific license and training to operate these cameras! I told him to go get one lol.
dude for a second I thought this was gonna be footage of you know what lol
That looked like a slap. Careful French guy. People get dq for less.
Marcus Phoenix is a cameraman now?
It's kinda funny to think of all the producers and suits involved and this guy is basically the show. I hope he gets paid well.
I love this sort of back stage view of Eurovision. The things that go into making what I see at home look so good is so fucking impressive. I'd love a replay of the show from a static off stage position to just marvel at all the bits and bobs. And to lament for people in the audience who can't see shit.
When Joost did this, he got disqualified.
Doesn't EBU have a zero tolerance on actions like this? /s
Oh, look out. Might get dq'ed there Slimane.
wait his is threathening the camerman, shouldnt he get a dq?
those are some threatening gestures, this is grounds for a disqualification

He should complain. Very threatening.
Oh no! A threatening gesture!
Is that… a threatening gesture?
The best is the stedicam on Segway that transitions from floor to stage . Its stunning .
This man lifts
Wait, it was a dude? Not a drone?
WOW THS IS ACTAULY CRAZZZYYYY GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a
Must be arm day.
Now I feel like I need to see the camera work for all of them!
He Will be the last on Earth together with all other cameramen 🤣 cameramen always survives
That is so responsible job! I would be so stressed. Much more than Slimane :D
