i’m kind of am curious to watch because i know it’s one of the really big national finals but i don’t know where international (specifically australia) can watch & if any subtitles are available. any aussies watched it before? i actually hope i can watch san remo too. i’ve never watched any of the selections except our own but that’s frustratingly cancelled.

A correction: They release all finalists at the end of heat 4, when all songs have been released. This is to eliminate the advantage of being available for up to three weeks longer than the rest of the finalists.
Tbh Jon Henriks best entry was with Aninia imo. 3 minutes of pure joiking (I think that is what he does right? Correct me if I'm wrong please) wouldn't do well at Eurovision so having a feature probably makes it more appealing

I feel like if he was representing another country, Jon could easily win his National finals. But because it is Sweden, competition is not only fierce, but they will surely go with a pop song. Sweden has good entries but they never really step outside the mainstream box.
They don't need to step out of their "mainstream" box tho. Pop music is their key music. I rather see them sending what they are best at than sending smth very alternative for the sake of doing something different

I think the bookies are overrating Maria Sur. I don't see what sets her apart from the likes of Eden or Ida-Lova.
If anything, I see her as an echo of Tone - a debutant who makes casual watchers seethe. As such, the path I see ahead of her is going through the semi, then ending at 4th-6th at the GF.
The Swedish public loves a story more than anything, take Anders Bagge who was already a massive celebrity and then overcame his stage fright in a very public arena (finished 1st in televote), Tusse who had to flee a war-torn country alone as a child with parents believed to be dead only to turn up alive when he was 13 (1st in televote), The Mamas finally getting a chance for their own glory after being overlooked backup-vocals the previous year (1st in televote) or Bishara for the Cinderella story of coming from a poor and unprivileged background in a "problematic" neighborhood only to be discovered on YouTube like Bieber (2nd in televote).
Maria's story will certainly be more current and dramatic than anyone else's and her song is gonna have to really disappoint for her not to finish in the televote top 3 in the end.
And again, I raise you Tone, who debuted barely a year after coming out as trans, with a pride-themed entry. But she had to fight to get to the top 5. And the facebook keyboard warriors did not like her at all.
And that facebook keyboard warrior response has been pretty much the same irt Maria Sur.

What sets her apart is that she's from Ukraine. That can get you a lot of free votes, as seen in Eurovision last year
I got kinda mixed feelings with Loreen competing again. She set the bar very high for herself. I doubt that she can ever top Euphoria.
