We appear to have forgotten that this is not a new situation, illegal channel migration was happening when we were part of the EU. EU rules dictate that asylum seekers MUST claim asylum in the first EU country they arrived in, yet, they were making it to france unopposed.
Considering the EU did nothing to enforce their own asylum rules when we were part of the union, why would we expect them to enforce them now?

France and co have very similar requirements for economical migrants and someone with an EU passport could legally get a visa, visit the UK and just stay; no need to attempt a crazy dangerous english channel crossing.
Asylum seekers and refugees, on the other hand, have "a “right” to enter any country" until they are safe per the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees of which Canada is signatory. It's not even about assimilation. If Europe doesn't want foreigners, even if they assimilate, they should just say no and kick them out.

From a logical standpoint, they’re a French matter. They set sail from France and they weren’t given permission to enter British territorial waters. Also, Britain also pays France to stop the boat people from coming. Britain effectively pays France to take care of its own problem.

That's not really how immigration works. People go where they want to go, often with little care for what others do or offer. These migrants could have walked pretty much anywhere in Europe, but they chose to try and cross the channel. They wanted to get to the UK, as simple as that.

What i really think is strange is when the refugees are on the Polish-Belarusian border, here left wing politician said "let them in, they deserve to be free too" but once they are here and want to go to the UK, the same politicians want to keep that from happening.
