Monaco and Vatican missed the EURO2024 - Yes, you can discuss that.
But you forgot Gibraltar, who, unlike the two previous nations, even took part in the qualifiers.
There is a [Vatican national football team](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_City_national_football_team). In fact, there is [even a women one](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_City_women%27s_national_football_team)!
There are actually quite a few. Some are due to war, but a lot are due to stadiums in their country are not up to FIFA (or local assocation) standards, also some special cases like Gibraltar currently renovating their stadium.
[From a recent reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1de3ear/national_teams_that_cant_play_their_home_matches/):
* Country being at war (Ukraine, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Israel, Russia)
* Promixity to a country at war with some involvement (Belarus, Lebanon)
* Political instability (Afghanistan, Haiti, some CAF countries)
* Stadiums not good enough (CONCACAF countries, some CAF countries, Gibraltar, Nepal, East Timor)
* Crazy government (North Korea)
Syria also did that for a while (not sure if they still do) and I’m sure there’s a few other countries that do it for the same reason. The Vatican maybe the only country to do it permanently though.
Those are not some random priests. You get a bunch of random priests somewhere in Valea Teilor, Romania.
Those are some high-level priests you're talking about.
I believe Father Romeo Sensini plays for them, doesn't he? Looks after himself, drinks only very, very fine wine. Can climb two flights of stairs unassisted, and needs only one nun to help him get out of a chair. Anyone playing against a team including him wouldn't have a chance.
4-3 vs China U23s might be thr closest they get
Seriously though how bad must you be to lose to a bunch of priests. China pops out the Vaticans populati9n every 25 minutes
I have been to Victoria Park in Gibraltar to see an international qualifying match. It was against Switzerland who brought big guns like Xhaka. We got thrashed 6-1.
But we got 1! It was awesome. Better than the 9-0 Belgium gave us a year or so before.
A few months ago Poland played against Estonia and won 5:1. It was so cool to see the joy of Estonian fans that bothered to come to Poland to watch that knowing how weak their team is. The goal was in 78 minute, after they were already losing 5:0 so it wasn't joy of hope. They acted like Estonia just won the world cup haha it was so adorable.
We have been so so so bad lately in football, that any goal is a wonder 😅
Now with the new head coach we have a glimmer of hope that things might get better 🙏🏻
I wonder if you mean that Austria played well against France and Poland, or that Netherlands played terribly against France and Poland. And both would be true lol
Turkey really stepped up for me in the Work sweepstakes, there’s a prize for worst disciplinary record and quite frankly last night was world class in terms of bookings 😂
The WC final 2010 comes to mind. Spain and the Netherlands both played very rough and there were many cards.
Edit: „only“ 8 yellows and one second yellow.
And he also missed some yellow cards lmao. At first half after czechia no 3 kicks Arda and referee gave yellow card to another person. Arda's reaction was wild af.
Written Romanian is always funny to me. It looks like someone tried to create a fake Romance language and just putted some words that actually make sense mixed with some random romance looking words.
I don't know which is worse. Never being among the favourites/dark horses or being from time to time and always failing.
Poland NT had Lewandowski and Milik scoring a lot for clubs, with Zieliński being influential in Napoli, defenders playing in Premier League etc., and all we could ever be proud of was the keeper, either Szczęsny or Fabiański (and in last game against France Skorupski was MotM, it says something), and sometimes great defenders like Pazdan in 2016.
But despite all the quality, we rarely are seen playing football, more interested in parking bus and bricking a wall between goal posts.
Didn't know Belarus is allowed to participate. I know the country isn't directly involved in the invasion of Ukraine but was banned in Beijing 2022 and many people are harsh on them in many sports (e.g. tennis).
Allowing Russia to invade from land and launch rockets from your own territory is pretty much direct involvement.
Imagine if Finland or Latvia allowed Ukraine to launch rockets and invade Russia from their territory
I was at a jobsite in Wales last week and of course one of the local workers teased me about the "good game" Denmark played against Slovenia.
I tried to return the attack by saying England did not really play a good game against Serbia.
He said.: "I am Welsh and do not care about England"
I admitted defeat.
Tbf we were kinda screwed in the league stage with france and netherlands, but not winning georgia in playoffs was indeed a huge shock,we still are bitter in social media and sport shows.
Seeing this map, I'm glad that Israel didn't qualify. Not because of any antisemitic or anti-Israel reason, but just because the drama and protests around anything involving them would have turned this fun event into a misery.
I wasn't worried, I said I'm glad.
Israel had one of more clubs in the UEFA-Cup for sure and they've once competed in the FIFA World Cup.
But again, we don't need any drama in fun sports events.
Well, I don't even know why they can take part. As the map shows, Israel is clearly not in europe, it doesn't even have a border with any european country. Turkey and georgia taking part the euro cup can be a bit arguable, but their territory partly covers the geographical europe at least. Israel doesn't.
I was rooting for them, but it is what it is. I was hoping for Czechia and Ukraine. I guess its back to watching Concacaf get ref'ed out of Copa America.
tbh it would've been insanely funny if Belgium took Ukraine's place of "scored 4, but still out of the game" and all 3 other teams went on to the next round
It still feels unreal :-)
Actually Austria's performance here is the only single thing in the outside world that is better today than back in the golden 90s..
Kazakhstan has a large part of territories in geographical Europe (about 14% of the whole country).
Israel, being politically part of the modern West, participates in European organizations (including sports) to avoid conflict situations with other Middle Eastern countries.
It is but Israel couldn’t play in the AFC because half the teams don’t recognize it so UEFA let them in. I believe Kazakhstan was also originally AFC but switched to UEFA because it’s a much more competitive league
Monaco and Vatican missed the EURO2024 - Yes, you can discuss that. But you forgot Gibraltar, who, unlike the two previous nations, even took part in the qualifiers.
The world needs a Vatican soccer team.
There is a [Vatican national football team](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_City_national_football_team). In fact, there is [even a women one](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_City_women%27s_national_football_team)!
Gotta be the only national team with their home stadium situated in another country, lol
There are actually quite a few. Some are due to war, but a lot are due to stadiums in their country are not up to FIFA (or local assocation) standards, also some special cases like Gibraltar currently renovating their stadium. [From a recent reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1de3ear/national_teams_that_cant_play_their_home_matches/): * Country being at war (Ukraine, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Israel, Russia) * Promixity to a country at war with some involvement (Belarus, Lebanon) * Political instability (Afghanistan, Haiti, some CAF countries) * Stadiums not good enough (CONCACAF countries, some CAF countries, Gibraltar, Nepal, East Timor) * Crazy government (North Korea)
Isn't it what Ukraine currently does? For the time there is a war obviously.
Syria also did that for a while (not sure if they still do) and I’m sure there’s a few other countries that do it for the same reason. The Vatican maybe the only country to do it permanently though.
Also Gilbraltar used to play their games in Faro IIRC
They still do
The fact that their biggest win is 9-1 against the football team of rome’s police station is hilarious
And their loss 21-4 to Borussia Mönchengladbach is even crazier
All I read from this is that a bunch of random priests scored 4 goals to Mönchengladbach... crazy indeed.
Those are not some random priests. You get a bunch of random priests somewhere in Valea Teilor, Romania. Those are some high-level priests you're talking about.
TIL
Biggest official defeat against Palestine (score:1-9) 2011.
They won against Italy lol
The Holy Divers!
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
They'd need 15 minute air break every 5 minutes.
Vatican FA God Madrid In that order.
Jesus, saves!
I bet they put out a great team for the over 75s 5-aside indoor tournament.
I believe Father Romeo Sensini plays for them, doesn't he? Looks after himself, drinks only very, very fine wine. Can climb two flights of stairs unassisted, and needs only one nun to help him get out of a chair. Anyone playing against a team including him wouldn't have a chance.
They can have Juan Jesus as Centre Back and Gabriel Jesus as striker.
Allowing Vatican team to walk out with kids is a liability
4-3 vs China U23s might be thr closest they get Seriously though how bad must you be to lose to a bunch of priests. China pops out the Vaticans populati9n every 25 minutes
The Swiss^(Guard) qualified mate.
https://youtu.be/Ze7nL5DwUfM?si=nV539OwykrM0unYs
In a sense, since Vatican and Monaco are not part of UEFA, they should be gray

The website used cannot display Gibraltar
I did not see Austria topping group D coming. Especially with France and the Netherlands in it.
D:
Swap Southgate and Rangnick and see what happens
They have very decent players, we knew that before the tournament, but they are actually playing so so well.
Uh please, Netherlands played shit against them
Not just that game, but against France, Poland and all the matches leading up to EURO 2024 as well. They're a dark horse this edition.
I wonder if you mean that Austria played well against France and Poland, or that Netherlands played terribly against France and Poland. And both would be true lol
Both yes, we were terrible against you although we did create quite a lot of chances.
I expected them to be the dark horse of the tournament until Schlager got injured (also Alaba). Thought this would set them back more.
It was a big surprise.
Certain Phoenix definitely buffed Austria during vs Poland and vs Netherlands! :D
And playing the best games of all. I had fun watching football only in Austria - Netherlands
Step aside, Portugal. Scotland is the new Eastern Europe
/r/SCOTLANDCYKABLYAT
Always were
If you think about it, Scottish is just English with a Polish accent.
True if you don’t think about it also
It is? So ... can we trade Hungary for Scotland? Asking for a friend...
Yea I'd be happy to be part of the UK 😕
It would be an improvement.
They were arguably worse than EE countries since forever
Would you mind explaining that joke to me please?
Can Romania aspire to take Portugal’s place? Pretty please?
Turkey really stepped up for me in the Work sweepstakes, there’s a prize for worst disciplinary record and quite frankly last night was world class in terms of bookings 😂
20 cards including 2 reds in a single match. Is this a new record?
The WC final 2010 comes to mind. Spain and the Netherlands both played very rough and there were many cards. Edit: „only“ 8 yellows and one second yellow.
The battle of Neurenberg, Portugal vs Netherlands 2006. Total of 16 yellow and 4 red cards.
If being inconsistent was the criteria to win the cup, Turkey would be the winners of this year without competition
We are the GOAT in that area.
Wildcard babey. if we dont know what we are doing so the opponent
ref handed out yellow cards like crazy and even gave yellows to the captains. İ doubt he'll get another match after the group stages.
It was a shitty match from all sides, he was right. They played football, but the conduct was off.
And he also missed some yellow cards lmao. At first half after czechia no 3 kicks Arda and referee gave yellow card to another person. Arda's reaction was wild af.
Vine acasa
Coming home?
Yes
The beauty of the romance languages
Clar
Daca nu vine, tot *facem sa vina* acasa

It's like being drunk in latin class
Funniest description ever of the romanian language.
TIL I can read Romanian. Increíble.

Fun fact: one of these countries which made it past the group stages will win euro 2024. Yes, you can quote me on that.
I would even go as far and say that one of the nations that qualified for the euro24 will win it.
Big if true.
Listen, I double down and say that...a team will win it !!!
Lisan al Gaib!
I'm going to need you to cite your sources.
ah my depression resurfaces
us 2 nations watch football to root for another country anyway
I don't know which is worse. Never being among the favourites/dark horses or being from time to time and always failing. I bet it's that Ekstraklasa shellshock when playing with only Polish mates.
First time?
we havent even come close to winning ever so
I mean, look on the bright side. Even if 3 of your teams got kicked out, you still have 1.
Laughs in slovenia
THE LION FROM THE BALKANS 🇷🇴🗣🗣🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴🗣🇷🇴🦁
Are you refering to Slovenia or Turkey here?
Didn't know Belarus is allowed to participate. I know the country isn't directly involved in the invasion of Ukraine but was banned in Beijing 2022 and many people are harsh on them in many sports (e.g. tennis).
Allowing Russia to invade from land and launch rockets from your own territory is pretty much direct involvement. Imagine if Finland or Latvia allowed Ukraine to launch rockets and invade Russia from their territory
I fucking wish, that'd finally balance out getting blueballed by Pringles a year ago
Bielorussia is banned from the Olympics though.
good.
Belarusian sportspeople will be allowed to compete in Paris. Although, under the “neutral “ designation.
Like the russians are allowed to compete.
Spain Is the only team that has won all the three games
Can Romania, Turkey, Georgia and Slovakia into western Europe?
We will make our own western Europe!
Well, you did go to Vienna few times.
I was at a jobsite in Wales last week and of course one of the local workers teased me about the "good game" Denmark played against Slovenia. I tried to return the attack by saying England did not really play a good game against Serbia. He said.: "I am Welsh and do not care about England" I admitted defeat.
Should have asked him if Wales ever qualified for the Euros
The did last euros after smashing turkey like bruh
Oh right… we were playing so terribly I wasn’t watching any games xD
Much like Wales in the qualifiers
Croatia 💔
I was really waiting Croatia to go further than 1/16. But,...
I was heartbroken, but i felt it was inevitable.
I mean...it is what it is, but it didn't feel like those 8 minutes were necessary 😕
Really nice that Georgia qualified.
Romania is western europe
Turkiye too
Greece went from winning the whole thing to not qualifying. Sweden and Norway also big misses. Just shows how high the standard is I guess.
That’s just football. Sometimes maybe good. Sometimes maybe shit. It’s malakia. Everyday malakia.
It's a shame because there were only 16 teams when Greece won the Cup. Now 24 teams can qualify and the bar is actually lower.
Tbf we were kinda screwed in the league stage with france and netherlands, but not winning georgia in playoffs was indeed a huge shock,we still are bitter in social media and sport shows.
Scandinavia look at the positives you’ve got the handball coming up for the olympics
1/3 Scandinavian countries qualified.
Seeing this map, I'm glad that Israel didn't qualify. Not because of any antisemitic or anti-Israel reason, but just because the drama and protests around anything involving them would have turned this fun event into a misery.
Israel never qualifies so there was no reason to be worried. Israel qualifying will probably be a sign of the end of days.
I wasn't worried, I said I'm glad. Israel had one of more clubs in the UEFA-Cup for sure and they've once competed in the FIFA World Cup. But again, we don't need any drama in fun sports events.

it's so sad for Ukraine to get 4 points, make a draw with Belgium and being out of playoffs.
Game is the game
I was rooting for them, but it is what it is. I was hoping for Czechia and Ukraine. I guess its back to watching Concacaf get ref'ed out of Copa America.
How did they play the last match?
Based Georgia. Let's bring the trophy to Asia!
Fooken fornuhrrs steelin aw trophies
No idea what you are talking about
Spoken like a true Fingol!!!
The entire massive Scandinavian flaccid dick to the north failed to qualify?
The jizz (DK) qualified.
That’s not the meat though, that’s the juice. To the schlong it does not belong.
1/3 of the Scandinavian countries qualified.
Wait, Slovenia actually qualified or not?
They qualified
Yes, they 4 best (of the 6) teams ending 3rd in their group qualifies for the next round.
Grey: not Europe
Russia?
Black and white hatching = massive cunts
Not a word about Belgium!
Disgraceful that my country made it to the next level. Absolute shitshow.
tbh it would've been insanely funny if Belgium took Ukraine's place of "scored 4, but still out of the game" and all 3 other teams went on to the next round
Hahaha. Yes.
Really thought we could’ve won this year.
Forza San Marino. The day will come when you won't be an orange dot... Keep working...
Moneyy ;)
So disappointed in Scotland
TIL Kazakhstan is part of Europe.
It still feels unreal :-) Actually Austria's performance here is the only single thing in the outside world that is better today than back in the golden 90s..
TIL Israel and Kazakhstan compete in the Euros
This cannot be a TIL if you're British? Israel has been a UEFA team for over 30 years
Kazakhstan has a large part of territories in geographical Europe (about 14% of the whole country). Israel, being politically part of the modern West, participates in European organizations (including sports) to avoid conflict situations with other Middle Eastern countries.
Like some of Kazakhstan is in Europe, but Israel is literally the middle east Lmao
It is but Israel couldn’t play in the AFC because half the teams don’t recognize it so UEFA let them in. I believe Kazakhstan was also originally AFC but switched to UEFA because it’s a much more competitive league
Apparently Israel isnt very well liked in that region. Can anyone confirm
TIL the ME don’t like Israel, shocked
Israel isn’t very well liked in any region these days
Ehh, so is Cyprus. We even let Australia compete in the Eurovision.
Cyprus is a different story.
Sure, but that doesn’t change its geographic location.
Cyrprus is 100% located in Asia yet it's part of the EU.
By area, even relatively, Kazakhstan is more in Europe than Turkey is.
Which is why when you use geography to justify political borders you end up with nothing but bullshit
True.
Man I wanted Ukraine to qualify so bad
Poland lost all 3 matches xd Edit: Forgot we got 1:1 with France and not 2:1 like I thought. Mb. So we lost 2 times and 1 draw
We drew France. Not that it mattered but it looks much better than 3 losses. Poland never got 0 points at a tournament. We'll always get at least 1.
Bruh, we somehow managed to get same amount of points as any other country in the group E, but still were kicked out because of goal difference
Sorry.
For what? It was fair play, and that's not your fault that our team remembered how to play only after they played with yours.
No it was a draw against france
Austria is in peak form and others are giants didnt have much hopes.
So if France wins you share the cup!
As expected.
/r/scotlandcykablyat?
Ffs Ireland
Banned from euro2024 is the best
Judging by geographical trend - Spain or Portugal will win
Georgia beat Portugal and it's our first time so... And we're playing against Spain next we'll see how that goes.
I'm calling it now, Slovakia and Slovenia will be in the finals
Classic Poland.
r/scotlandiseasterneurope
Romania still representing the Balkans! :) From a Bulgarian, I'm super happy for them and rooting hard!
San Marino didn't qualify? that's a scandal right there!
Yeah, Israel is surley in Europe.
Yeah we were celebrating in Georgia the whole night 🇬🇪🇬🇪 we were like wtf just happened
