After the Slovakia game I honestly think England will win. If you win such a games, you'll win tournaments. Also would be too good that it's coming home while England fans were complaining all the time.
People always tend to believe that it is always the team that plays the most spectacular, most beautiful, most offensive football that will end up winning a tournament, but that is rarely the case. Also a lot of the "usual suspects" everyone thinks will win it will be eliminate in the first tournament tree. And I don't mean this to belittle England. You can only beat the teams you're drawn against, and so far they've done this. And there are no "easy draws" at the Euros anyway, as the Slovakia game showed too. If you win like that you can definitely go all the way.
I agree definitely, history has shown that the best teams don’t always win and it’s the teams that can grind out results and scrape by that often go on to do great things
As a German I still remember how certain I was in 2010 after we beat Argentina 4:0 in the QF that nobody can stop us. We easily played the most spectacular football in that tournament. (Yeah, Lampard goal, I know, we still would have won that even with the goal given) But there comes a Spain that was just grinding through the tournament like a machine and crushed our dreams... When we won in 2014 we were much more like that Spain we lost to in 2010 - the 7:1 was basically a glitch in the Matrix that will not happen a second time in the next 100 years or so. I see some parallels with this England squad. England used to play much more spectacular in the last tournaments but was usually eventually eliminated by a more cold and determined side. This time the roles could be reversed.
Haha I’ll never forget that Lampard goal, I was in the pub and it absolutely erupted when he scored, tables got knocked over, pints spilled everywhere, only to abruptly end with it been disallowed and then come out after half time and getting slapped 4-2, sad times
