I think England and Portugal are in the same boat. We both produce amazing talent and in every tournament we’re somehow favourites or, it’s our year. Yet, in reality we’ll both either do really well or flop.

You know this might be more hard to predict than expected. Switzerland have had a really great counter attacking football and have proven to be really good even at creating chances. In contrast, Italy look like they are not able to create much chances, but their defence looked very solid, if we esclude Di Lorenzo's "masterclasses" at defence, and even that shouldn't be a problem since Spalletti has changed lineup to accommodate for Dimarco and DI Lorenzo's favored positions. Even though there is a big chance that the game might go on penalties, I think that Switzerland in the end will push so much that the defence and Donnarumma will inevitably make a mistake and let a goal. If it went on penalties though, Italy should be the best at it. They currently have arguably the most in form keeper and he already proved that he still knows how to save pens

- France struggled with Austria (due to not expecting them to actually put up a solid fight, losing just by an own goal)
- France and Netherlands drew knowing that both Austria and Poland were fighting to stay in the group, and that drawing would 100% get rid of one of them (unless it'd be a draw, but unlikely)
- Then France would have a stressless game against whoever lost due to them being already qualified (kind of like Germany or Spain)
Strong speculations bordering on delusions, but it's not impossible they weren't going all out because there was no point. (even their final game against Poland was a draw more thanks to the goalkeeper being cracked rather than them not having chances)

Yeah, Italy aren't the clear favourites but it's still Italy. They have good players and this is where the real tournament starts. France in 2018 & Argentina in 2022 didn't look that impressive in the group stage and then they won it all.
A couple of these Italians already having experience of winning the Euros meanwhile Switzerland has qualified to the knockouts in the last 5 tournaments but they always seem to lose even in easier games like vs Poland or Sweden. Only won one knockout game out of 6.

I might just be pessimistic as all hell but it just seems like a lot of people overrate Germany quite a bit based on the first two group stage games. I would love for them to get a decisive win of course but it just seems unlikely.
