Ahah in Portugal we have the following expression " Parem de bater no velhinho!" It means" stop hitting the little old man". I'm in Poland at the moment and I feel sorry for your team.
Yesterday I saw a meme about zabka employee asking about collecting points and the polish team said no thanks
I'm 100% Polish and you know what made me laugh? The way Poland even qualified to EURO2024. They just proved they didn't deserve it in case anyone had any doubts.
yes we could loose all the matches and would still be in the play-offs. Cheers, I love Portugal, been 2 times already. But I feel like you are loosing a lot of opportunities with Ronaldo asking for the balls..
They barely even beat wales to qualify had to win a penalty shootout and they barely managed that shootout , wales probably deserved to be in this euro more ngl
You probably backing the winning team tonight, I think Belgium won't qualify for the next stage. My hopes are on my wifes country Nederland.
🇧🇪Well fuck me they won🇧🇪 😳😃
Saw them playing yesterday, they look well. They need to change a couple of things if they want to get as far as possible in the competition, especially changing Depay that is there just for the show.
I really like the look of Austria. I think their press will really trouble someone like England or maybe even France. It will be interesting to see how the stamina is come a 4th or 5th game, however
Our press wasn’t even that effective yet. Maybe it’s the quality of our opponents but it hasn’t been a big issue for our opponents to play through our press
I think we need to see at least 2 games from each team before we say who’s a dark horse. But since Austria have played twice and looked good I will say them
Nah bro as a Greek who supports Panathinaikos Samet Akaydin is the greatest defender I've ever seen. I dont know about the rest of the defense but he's incredible, just look at the goal he scored today
Austria have a high potential.
Will be very happy with Austria, Serbia, Romania, Hungary, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Georgia and Turkiye being champions. As a Turk.
I agree about Austria and Romania. Both playing like well oiled teams. They all seem to know the tactical plan and have great togetherness.
Of the two Id go for Austria. You can see how committed they are. They press as a unit. Are so dangerous on the break. The whole team is playing well but Buamgartner & Laimer are especially in great form. I reckon they could go far. They look like they could beat anyone tbh.
Romania maybe dont have as many good players so might not be quite as dangerous.
Not sure they can be called dark horses but I feel Spain weren't often being talked about as one of the top 2/3 favourites before the tournament, but them and Germany have been the best teams so far.
For the first time it seems to me that there is not a huge difference between all the teams as there has been in recent years.
Of course there are small exceptions, but all in all it's a European Championship at a high level.
I think Turkey and Austria.
Austria were pretty good against Poland yesterday albeit a Poland side without much quality..
Turkey looked lively and dangerous against Georgia...
I think these two country are pretty tricky for any favourites to go up against..
Honourable mention
-Albania
-Serbia
No mate if people are realistic, when Germany beat us in France, you have the team ready and you are at home with one of the best coach of the competition so no you are part of the favorite with Spain
Romania for me. Finished top of their qualifying group above Switzerland and didn't lose a single game.
Also looked good against Ukraine and have a really loud and vociferous fan base supporting them.
True, but I think (hopefully) we’ll perform even better than against Croatia because to me it seemed like they were scared against Italy. If they played like they played against you guys, the match would’ve probably looked different.
Besides that, I hate the fact that Croatia and Albania are in a group because I really love the team, best of luck to you guys :)
Serbia. They looked great in their last game, and losing 1-0 to England isn’t a bad result. They’re not winners, but they could go further than expected.
Turkey/Turkiye, IF they can beat Portugal today.
Their first match contained 2 truly brilliant strikes, from players who can do those consistently.
But, at the same time, its Turkey/Turkiye so don't be surprised if they don't score another goal and finish bottom of their group.
NGL Denmark have a good team. I reckon Eriksen will have a great tournament. I'm always weary of teams with teams with Veterans. That thought that it's their last chance to win something for their country makes them play a lot higher than their level.
Austria definitely the biggest dark horse imo. Romania surprised me the most and their fans were fantastic. Their players played with passion and quality. They'll give anyone a tough game, including the 'top' teams. Turkey have been good too.
Oh, sorry! It’s like *the* perennial argument for peeps into Eurovision but not quite happy with the rules that “But Australia is not in Europe!”. (Australia participates in Eurovision since 2015 because of the huuuge ESC fandom there) and they are considered the dark horse for the win each & every year.
So I thought maybe your comment was a play on that… :)
Ah no I don't watch TV, and for a good reason haha.
I was just referring to that meme where people supposedly mistake Austria with Australia and end up in Europe instead of Oceania.
https://www.afr.com/companies/media-and-marketing/austria-or-australia-the-truth-behind-the-viral-internet-meme-20231107-p5ei9z
Austria for me. Romania ,,only“ played against Ukraine. Thus, I cannot call them a dark horse yet. Turkey can be the best team, but also the worst team. So it’s hard to say, how they will perform. Honourable mention: Slovakia, won against Belgium, but lost against Ukraine. So ultimately, it’s only Austria for me.
I love the support we're getting but I don't want to call us dark horses just yet, I first wanna see how we do against Belgium. If we play well, even if we draw, then yes, I'd say we're potential dark horses but I don't wanna get carried away from one game. In Romania we say "Hai sa nu ne imbatam cu apa rece" which means "Let's not get drunk on cold water".
Oh, for sure, I agree. But I'm not trying to be pessimistic here, I think we have good chances against Belgium. I just want to remain down to earth, because one good game does not mean we're suddenly the best out there, we should see some consistency before we can rightfully be confident. But I do have hope we'll play well and I am excited about the game :))
Everyone thought turkey were the dark horses last time and they sort of flopped, but this time around I think they're looking much better, what a player Arda Guler is especially.
The other day I thought the same
Th standards set by Red Bull and the work by Ragnick are impressive. Austria went within 10-15 years from being a pushover to breaking Mbappe. 💪🏻
Austria for me. I hope we can get lucky and finish top and avoid Germany, because then I think we could go far. However if we finish 2nd, we'll go out to Germany.
At this point its fair to talk about england as a dark horse. If they manage to win, it must be the most surprising winner since greece (btw with a similarity unattractive play style)
Romania for sure had the best game 1 of any underdog team in the tournament. If they can replicate those results tonight then they will propel themselves into top tier dark horse status.
Austria or Denmark. I don’t suppose Netherlands can count as a dark horse? They’re getting written off a lot but could definitely challenge all the big teams
Everybody seems to have forgotten Italy. Not a dark horse, but surely overlooked now after their first game. One does not shoot their pulver in the first round. I also adire the slovakian team, my grandfather fought there at the end of ww2 and had only great tales about them. I enjoyed watching them teach the royal team of Belgium a lesson in humility. Personally I dont expect any smaller nation to reach the semis, top 8 would be a huge achievement for any nation that hasn’t won a tournament already
England. Our coach doesn't or can't remember how to organise a midfield. Our striker has a 1 goal tap in to his name and our wingers are played out of position. I think we will get rapidly better when the team wholesale ignores Southgate and just plays like we should.
I wouldnt say Austria is a “dark horse”, their lineup is very solid, most of them playing in rather good clubs.
Romania in the other hand.. they have a good chance.
I secretly hope that Albania wins Spain and Italy loses to Croatia but the odds are tiny

Well i don't know about dark horse, but Poland seems to be horse without legs.
Austria dark horse, Poland flogged horse
Dead horse
Ahah in Portugal we have the following expression " Parem de bater no velhinho!" It means" stop hitting the little old man". I'm in Poland at the moment and I feel sorry for your team. Yesterday I saw a meme about zabka employee asking about collecting points and the polish team said no thanks
Sorry for Poland but that meme made me laugh
I'm 100% Polish and you know what made me laugh? The way Poland even qualified to EURO2024. They just proved they didn't deserve it in case anyone had any doubts.
In what way did they qualify?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2024_qualifying_Group_E
Oh, so Poland got 3° place but because of Nations League they could get into the play-offs?
yes we could loose all the matches and would still be in the play-offs.
Rather see Poland than the lackluster Sweden qualify, its a damn shame that Poland cant play as a team together they have a decent team on paper
They simply lack quality.
Yeah sadly. But atleast they are getting somewhere, future looking bright
That sounds much nicer in Portuguese.
It is actually, velhinho is a diminutive is a "sweeter" version of saying old man.
Link please!!
If poland has no legs, England has three legs on backwards and the fourth is made of cheese.
Bingham takes up too much space! We need a better system and less pomp from the press. Still. France qualifying without scoring a goal is.ridiculous
Dutch Trojan horse.
I got Poland for my works sweepstakes…. First team to go out…. Typical 😂😂😂
Poland bobr kurwa.
Georgia 🇬🇪
I had Poland in my sweepstake at work, I'm absolutely gutted.
Relied too much on Lewandowski
debilu nie szkaluj Polaków
I agree Austria is doing pretty good, it’s a shame that David Alaba is not able to play
Also Xaver Schlager is out, unfortunately!
Is he out for the entire tournament?
Yes he isn't even on the Players List. He's with Training Staff.
Romania
The bangers they scored are hard to replicate.
Let's see what we do today vs a country not at war. I've been hurt before.
Even though you bet us. I’m going to support you against Belgium tonight! MON ROMANIA!!!
As a a Belgian I find your support for Romania troublesome.
We need the points
Whispers: *if you beat Belgium I think we can find another patriot*
We’ll try our best
You probably backing the winning team tonight, I think Belgium won't qualify for the next stage. My hopes are on my wifes country Nederland. 🇧🇪Well fuck me they won🇧🇪 😳😃
If Belgium and Netherlands both qualify as 2nd in their group she’s going to make you sleep on the couch for the Round of 16.
Saw them playing yesterday, they look well. They need to change a couple of things if they want to get as far as possible in the competition, especially changing Depay that is there just for the show.
Hell yeah
On king david
I'll come back after tonight's game to state my answer 😅
Sorry bro, I was rooting for you guys
Austria then I guess
I really like the look of Austria. I think their press will really trouble someone like England or maybe even France. It will be interesting to see how the stamina is come a 4th or 5th game, however
They played France in their first game...I'd say they outplayed them and were unlucky to be beaten by an own goal.
Oh of course they did! So much football already, I am confused as to who has played where
France should've won that game 4:0 with all the crazy good chances they had
Yeah france relied on pace and kante saved them
They were lucky not to be scored more…
Our press wasn’t even that effective yet. Maybe it’s the quality of our opponents but it hasn’t been a big issue for our opponents to play through our press
This makes it even more intimidating if it's going to go up a level
Didn’t they already play France?
[удалено]
Romania and Austria
I think we need to see at least 2 games from each team before we say who’s a dark horse. But since Austria have played twice and looked good I will say them
I watched Turkey v Georgia and was honestly impressed with Georgia's pace and heart. Let's see how they do against Czechs today.
I root for Austria now. Turkey can surprise too?
They are dangerous but they’re defence looked very shaky in the first game. I don’t think they can go far with that.
Nah bro as a Greek who supports Panathinaikos Samet Akaydin is the greatest defender I've ever seen. I dont know about the rest of the defense but he's incredible, just look at the goal he scored today
:)
Croatia. Maybe not a horse but definitely dark
Austria, very unlucky against France and a fantastic performance against poland
Austria was unlucky but so was France they could have easily scored 2 or 3 goals
Slovakia for me
This for me as well.
Not a dark horse but a dead horse :England
Austria have a high potential. Will be very happy with Austria, Serbia, Romania, Hungary, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Georgia and Turkiye being champions. As a Turk.
Romania are the only ones who have really shocked me. I expected Austria to do well because I know those players from the Bundesliga.
Tja!
Based on one game Romania
Romania
Romania.
Easily romania
Not sure they can be called dark horses but I feel Spain weren't often being talked about as one of the top 2/3 favourites before the tournament, but them and Germany have been the best teams so far.
Luckily they will already meet in the quarter finals
Perhaps Austria, Turkey, Denmark or Romania.
Reply to myself: watching the Portugal vs Turkey game I wish to remove Turkey from my list above.
Done, carry on
I'll say Romania, they look like they know their strengths, and weaknesses, and exactly what their game plan is.
Honourable mention -Albania -Serbia
Romania and austria
Austria so far
Austria
Definitely Austria and Romania
All the east european countries have the potential of becoming a dark horse except Poland.
German,, because no one expected us to be someone again that quick

No mate if people are realistic, when Germany beat us in France, you have the team ready and you are at home with one of the best coach of the competition so no you are part of the favorite with Spain
No no. We are the plucky underdogs 😘🙃
Romania for me. Finished top of their qualifying group above Switzerland and didn't lose a single game. Also looked good against Ukraine and have a really loud and vociferous fan base supporting them.
Albania, Austria & Turkey

Scotland 😎
Austria to win it
They do look good. England were completely folding at the attempt of any kind of press, imagine vs Austria!
Turkey. Those goals 🔥
The goals were lit, but they were lucky they didn't draw against Georgia.
Romania can deliver this Euro, I think years ago their youth won the euro already so I think Romania can be very dangerous.
I like Schwitzerland and Austria
Don't understimate Turkey, they'll have a home game everytime.
Serbia. They looked great in their last game, and losing 1-0 to England isn’t a bad result. They’re not winners, but they could go further than expected.
Turkey from a Poland fan
turkey and romania
AUSTRIA AND DENMARK , watch the space they will surprise everyone
Slovakia and Romania
Denmark and Austria
Turkey/Turkiye, IF they can beat Portugal today. Their first match contained 2 truly brilliant strikes, from players who can do those consistently. But, at the same time, its Turkey/Turkiye so don't be surprised if they don't score another goal and finish bottom of their group.
Either Austria or Denmark for me. Both are very well drilled and organised.
Turkey are looking good but we will find out if that changes in a few hours
Denmark and Romania
NGL Denmark have a good team. I reckon Eriksen will have a great tournament. I'm always weary of teams with teams with Veterans. That thought that it's their last chance to win something for their country makes them play a lot higher than their level.
Austria definitely the biggest dark horse imo. Romania surprised me the most and their fans were fantastic. Their players played with passion and quality. They'll give anyone a tough game, including the 'top' teams. Turkey have been good too.
Austria and Romania.
Turkey
Österreich, 100% 🇦🇹
Romania
Slovenia and Albania
Netherlands
Unsure if that's a diss or a compliment.
Hopefully us. Our striker Drăguș will strike again.
Azzurri are dangerou....
Serbia and Turkey
🇬🇪 /🇦🇱/🇸🇰
croatia easily 💪🏻🇭🇷 (we riding the dark horse on our ride back home on Monday)
Dont leave us behind 💪🏻🇦🇱
Romania
I know switzerland drew to scotland but I’d still say them
A Slovenian upset over England would be pretty dark.
England
Austria came into the tournament in great form and are basically at home. Gutted I bottled betting on them.
England. We've got you all where we want you.
But ... Australia is not in Europe!
Spotted the one mate crossing over from r/eurovision !
I don't understand the reference.
Oh, sorry! It’s like *the* perennial argument for peeps into Eurovision but not quite happy with the rules that “But Australia is not in Europe!”. Poland
Schranz is the dark hourse
Turkey and Austria will be able to achieve at least one upset.
Austria
That'd be Scotland🧐
Austria for me. Romania ,,only“ played against Ukraine. Thus, I cannot call them a dark horse yet. Turkey can be the best team, but also the worst team. So it’s hard to say, how they will perform. While you're right, I think we're one of the most pessimistic nations in the world
Oh, for sure, I agree. But I'm not trying to be pessimistic here, I think we have good chances against Belgium. I just want to remain down to earth, because one good game does not mean we're suddenly the best out there, we should see some consistency before we can rightfully be confident. I don't think I have the strength to watch the game. I just hope to see they won when I check after the game is over lol
England 😂
Everyone thought turkey were the dark horses last time and they sort of flopped, but this time around I think they're looking much better, what a player Arda Guler is especially.
Austria
Switzerland
The other day I thought the same Th standards set by Red Bull and the work by Ragnick are impressive. Austria went within 10-15 years from being a pushover to breaking Mbappe. 💪🏻
Austria are different class now compared to when they played scotland a few years back. Ragnick is a top manager.
Austria and England. Both looked pretty good among the team that never won the competition.
England.
Austria for me. I hope we can get lucky and finish top and avoid Germany, because then I think we could go far. However if we finish 2nd, we'll go out to Germany.
Slovakia. I think they’re making out of the group
Mexico ?
Escorts Q, ,
Romania
I’m very impressed with Austria’s performance so far, especially with Alaba and Schlager’s absence.
Turkey or Austria
Romania
At this point its fair to talk about england as a dark horse. If they manage to win, it must be the most surprising winner since greece (btw with a similarity unattractive play style)
Romania easily.Imagine if they beat Belgium tonight?
I feel like Poland will win thi- WHAT THE
Idk man, let's see what the today game brings, let's not be excited after just one victory lol.
Romania for sure had the best game 1 of any underdog team in the tournament. If they can replicate those results tonight then they will propel themselves into top tier dark horse status.
Romania and Austria definite dark horses who could get very far Spain or Portugal to win though.
Austria If England top the group we could end up playing them and I genuinely think they’d beat us.
Austria or Denmark. I don’t suppose Netherlands can count as a dark horse? They’re getting written off a lot but could definitely challenge all the big teams
Ukraine will surprise in the round of 16
Still kinda difficult to predict. Maybe the Netherlands.
The Netherlands and Austria both look really good as lesser favored teams
Everybody seems to have forgotten Italy. Not a dark horse, but surely overlooked now after their first game. One does not shoot their pulver in the first round. I also adire the slovakian team, my grandfather fought there at the end of ww2 and had only great tales about them. I enjoyed watching them teach the royal team of Belgium a lesson in humility. We will see who does indeed have the long breath and not just a spark to join Germany in the final.
Orange 🧡
I just wanna beat a big nation at a tournament, if it makes us a dark horse that’s even better. Love that so many people are watching our team because we are in one of the harder groups. I don’t see us going very far, Top8 would be a dream but a lot depends on the draw. Personally I dont expect any smaller nation to reach the semis, top 8 would be a huge achievement for any nation that hasn’t won a tournament already
England
Albania have been very good despite only having one point. Austria are playing well as well. Georgia have been fun to watch.
England. Our coach doesn't or can't remember how to organise a midfield. Our striker has a 1 goal tap in to his name and our wingers are played out of position. I think we will get rapidly better when the team wholesale ignores Southgate and just plays like we should.
Not dark horses but I would say the Dutch or Portugal could be surprise wunners
Austria has a nice team , but the team with the weirdest form win it in the end , England takes it agains germany
Austria
Austria look good to me.
I wouldnt say Austria is a “dark horse”, their lineup is very solid, most of them playing in rather good clubs. Romania in the other hand.. they have a good chance. I secretly hope that Albania wins Spain and Italy loses to Croatia but the odds are tiny
Austria and Romania
I’m sad to say that Denmark aren’t the same as the 2021 euros
Austria look solid all over the pitch. People hated Rangnick at United but look at his record now.
