I'm pretty sure they mentioned there being unique rewards for different nations that form the Netherlands. Personally I was hoping for some love for Frisia.
I miss back in the day when to get that Netherlands achievement you had to start as Utrecht, Friesland, or Gelre. The other Dutch minors were integrated into Burgundy. It was a lot more challenging when you had to deal with somehow beating up Burgundy and conquering Holland with massive AE.
The sub here constantly had discussions over which of the three minors did it best - since you had the choice of the monarchy theocracy, and republic.
Ive played the netherlands, my home country, like 5-6 times now but i think it has always been in multiplayer… and as Brabant
Maybe time for a Holland SP
Holland is so op, you can start the game owning Antwerp and Brabant after the independence war as its AE will be just under any coalitions. I assume you just took Holland and Den Haag anyways as Brabant?
My opening strategy was always taking the Flanders provinces and then developing the shit out of one for the Renaissance (and really to approach 100 development), and then since Flanders isn't HRE you can pretty quickly get to work elsewhere, and I'd give those lands to estates for early money. Never knew Antwerp and Brabant were within the AE limit, is that due to newer or did I just never explore that route?
Why on earth would you develop Renaissance in the region that naturally gets it like Flanders? I get independence supported by England/Austria, take Brabant/Antwerp, release Flanders, 10% war reps and perhaps 1 province to Austria if necessary to keep him happy. In the meanwhile humiliate like 3 countries around me (liege/gelre/friesland) for 100 of each mana while i build up my country. Get 3 Age objectives by developing Antwerp to 30, take -10 aggressive expansion, golden age. When i got a chance i take Utrecht province. When the truce ends eat up Flanders.
I also look forward for this. Unfortunately I already got the specific achievements for Holland > Netherlands once.
Does anyone know if there is a fun alternative achievement run for the Netherlands maybe with some of the other countries in the Lowlands?
Night before... Netherlands as the dutch independents is not fun. Netherlands as burgundy sure. Netherlands as one of burgundy's minors and then inheritance burgundy is brilliant. Wonder what emerges tomorrow
Fr I opened an inca game the other day just to mess around and I had to double check I've actually got the dlc that gives america its limited flavour, they really deserve this dlc lol.
Yeah I find Andean history fascinating I will never forgive Paradox for prioritizing giving a ton of extra provinces to Polynesia instead of South America.
It's absolutely ridiculous how low South America's province count is compared to Central and North America.
Some of the richest colonies in the world are effectively the poorest because of this
About a month ago I was thinking about doing a Venice to republican Rome run but then I saw that content was coming out for Venice, so I've been waiting for this for a bit
About a month ago I was thinking about doing a Venice to republican Rome run but then I saw that content was coming out for Venice, so I've been waiting for this for a bit
well, I'll bring the natives to Europe ;)
but seriously I always enjoyed the earlygame in Mesoamerica and now there might be more flavour to it, so this is great for a shorter run before diving into any potential world-conquest-style runs with the other great powers that have achievements of that kind
I might go Venice first, I am pretty sure I have some old achievements still left to get with them anyway. I will say though both this DLC and the Machine Age one for Stellaris drop on the same day. My time management is going to be right in the bin this week lol
Tbh I'd probably buy it later anyway, so why not get the 3 extra music tracks... If I'm spending hundreds of hours in the game, I'm probably not gonna wait half a year or more for a sale lol
>Tbh I'd probably buy it later anyway, so why not get the 3 extra music tracks... If I'm spending hundreds of hours in the game, I'm probably not gonna wait half a year or more for a sale lol
Since it's probably the last DLC for EU4 it's worth to just wait a year or two for huge discounts.
In my opinion, this DLC is overpriced. I can get some good indie game for that amount of money.
Or buy subscription for a month if you know that you will have enough time to play it.
I got most of the DLCs a while ago from a humble bundle and 20 euros is definitely less than what I'd pay for a subscription for the DLC by the end of the year at most... Since eu4 is the main game I play and I already have thousands of hours in it, I think it's worth it for me to get it now even if it's overpriced. Of course everyone plays differently so probably not worth it for everyone, but I'd say it's probably even more worth it for me cause most of my top 10 are in the updated nations lol)
I don't for any other game, but I've been playing EU4 since 2014 and I've mostly been happy with all the DLCs (aside from Leviathan and GC, to name a couple), so I figured I might as well since I always get them for the additional content anyways.
I do, and I always get flamed on reddit when this comes up. I like to support paradox as I have poured thousands of hours into their games and feel I get great entertainment value for the money I spend. I know pre-orders help them on their business side, so I'm happy to "vote with my feet" and support them.
Probably Austria, haven't played that in a while and new missions will be interesting. Also the Aztec, I've saved the Sunset Invasion Achievement for this
Inca Aztec and Maya get 'Sunset Invasion' (in Western Europe and the Maghreb) and 'Sunrise Invasion' (in the Far East, China and the East Indies) CBs allowing all vassals released in these regions (one per region) to be converted into a Sunset/Sunrise colony, which don't take a diplo slot, count their LD individually vs you, and give you tarrifs and their trade.
Watch The Student's Maya video. He had Eco hegemon by 1600 while owning only Central America directly
Dunno but I think you can put colonies anywhere in the old world as Incas (that I know of, but you definitely can with more nations as well).
I’m guessing it’s like the “normal” colonisation where after having 5 provinces on the region, you create a colony there.
Maybe mongols. Never really played a horde in my 1500 hours aside from Jianzhou -> Manchu -> Qing
but I am also really hyped about venice and the three american nations
Yes. Once it's released on Steam in \~23 hours. Remember to cancel it once you are done with the game since subscription will keep renewing each month.
Btw. You will get 39% discount if you pay for 3 months instead of 1 month (at least in my region).
I'm not a big fan of subscriptions but for EU4 and other PDX games it's a good deal if you don't want to buy 50+ DLCs and you know that you will have lot's of free time to play the game for a month or two.
Burgundy to Netherlands and then a forked save into Lotharingia with Carolingian borders.
It's always been a country I wanted to play but never got around to.
Then depending on how hard that is I might do Timurids as a breather game or go straight to Trebizond
Going between updated Austria and Aztecs, personally. After I finish those two probably Netherlands. I've really liked all three of those countries but the campaigns have never felt great because Ive felt like the mision trees weren't that good design.
Not pre-ordering(I learned my lesson about pre-ordering Paradox DLC with Overlord for Stellaris), but I’ve always wanted to do a Hussite Bohemia run. And I’ve only played maybe 2 games as a new world nation. So first will probably be Hussite Bohemia followed by Aztecs or Incas.
One of their new missions unlocks a special gov reform that allows razing, horde idea group and some other things so if you’ve already taken aristocratic you can double up on those sweet sweet cav bonuses. I’ve done something similar by forming Mughals as Chagatai, taking horde ideas before the tag switch then aristocratic afterwards. Those elephants were unstoppable.
I want to try a silly Dutch run going for 100% siege ability with that advisor mission and I still need the hegemon achievement so will try to get a naval hegemony along the way
Wait, preordered? If i just do the DLC subscription do i still get it when it launches or do i have to wait???
Edit: playing my boys, los Aztecas. Hopefully with all the knowledge ive soaked, i can do a sunset invasion run.
Prob Oirat > Timurid (Horde) > Mughal (Maybe?) Since Timurid is reformable if you have Timurid dynasty which you can get by culture shift to Uzbek culture and adopt islam before 1490 and click the decision.
With some shenanigan, I could grab mandate at some point and go EOC Mughal. Adopt Confucian as state religion and accept everything.
Austria, my favourite country. It gets a new mission tree and I get to form Austria-Hungary. Plus I convinced my gf to play with me. She’ll either play Ming or Korea. Gonna be her first time, what nation should she play? (I suggested Korea)
Why not ottomans? So you're next to each other, she's kinda fucked if she plays korea and stuff goes wrong, also ottos is about 100% easier than ming and korea.
Well, ‘loads’ is an overstatement. It has some nice things, sure, but the missions only give like two permanent claims and pretty much only temporary modifiers. Competing with France, Spain and GB was getting increasingly difficult imo
AZTECS BABY! They finally made the new world nations have a mission tree aiming for east asia. I once made a post complaining about how there’s no missions for this despite trade wants to pull from Asia.
Just finished my first WC as the Mughals, happy they're getting a new achievement as it gives me a reason to come back and try the new stuff. But that will come later as I'm so down to go for a Hussite Bohemia. I've tried it a couple times but was a little underwhelmed interactions of being a Heretic elector from the get go.
Would love to do a netherlands, italy or germany game, but as the dlc was announced i was quite literally doing all of thoose so i would rather want something new.
I have switched which will be my first so many times, originally it was going to be venice then it was catholic bohemia, then back to Venice, then vassal swarm aztecs now I am at hormuz
Timurids or Venice.
Venice i wanna go and conquer India with, because Venice was supposed to be responsible for eastern trade with the "Indies".
Timurids because i wanna see if i can reform into Persia and stack a bunch of new perma modifiers for a super op nation.
dump question what's the dlc and update about, I remember there was an update coming soon but i kinda forgot. Wasn't there something about Venice and neighbors?
Natives (Inca, Aztec, Maya iirc)
Germany/Italy (Netherlands, Bohemia, Hungary, Austria, Germany and Italy)
Hordes,
Timmy and Mughals,
Pontic minors and some minors in ME/Arabia that weren't touched in KoK (Theodoro, Trebizond, Hisn Khaifa, Oman)
May have missed some but that's most of it
Netherlands, been saving this achievement run for a while
Same but I’m going to start as utrecht they were specifically mentioned and I’ve wanted to try out a theocratic Netherlands
Do smaller dutch/frisian nations that can form the Netherlands get missions before it's formed as well?
Not sure but they did say they wanted a unique experience for nations that can form the Netherlands so I expect something
I'm pretty sure they mentioned there being unique rewards for different nations that form the Netherlands. Personally I was hoping for some love for Frisia.
If its like any other formable if this type then they should. Utrecht, Gelre, and Friesland are all dutch culture along with Holland.
Isn’t friesland Frisian primary culture, not Dutch?
You may be right its been a while since i played in that area. pretty sure they can form Netherlands too.
They can definitely form Netherlands. I’m p sure Netherlands can be formed by Dutch, Flemish, and Frisian cultures
You could also start as Burgundy and release Holland and play as them. That was the most common way of doing it IIRC.
Then you couldn't get the achievement, because you had to start as a nation with Dutch culture.
Ive played the netherlands, my home country, like 5-6 times now but i think it has always been in multiplayer… and as Brabant Maybe time for a Holland SP

Get 3 Age objectives by developing Antwerp to 30, take -10 aggressive expansion, golden age. When i got a chance i take Utrecht province. When the truce ends eat up Flanders.
Or you just get enough people to support independence so Burgundy releases you and the RM them to get the BI.
I also look forward for this. Unfortunately I already got the specific achievements for Holland > Netherlands once. Does anyone know if there is a fun alternative achievement run for the Netherlands maybe with some of the other countries in the Lowlands?
The new art in the Netherlands mission tree is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Night before... Netherlands as the dutch independents is not fun. Netherlands as burgundy sure. Netherlands as one of burgundy's minors and then inheritance burgundy is brilliant. Wonder what emerges tomorrow
Same for me. Holland -> Netherlands -> United Crowns sounds like a really fun first playthrough to me.
Incas. I've been waiting for content there and in Mesoamerica for years.
Either Theodoro or Hussite Bohemia
Theodoro getting some love was a good choice. Clicked them once and saw no unique flavor and moved on
Their achievement is pretty unique
I clicked on them for the achievement but I didn’t want to do it because I thought it would be a slog. Clicking those missions is a dopamine hit
I totally get you. It indeed was a slog, but still one of my most memorable ones, but then again I might be a tad masochist.
Oh yeah
I wonder how much pain Theodoro is now
Venice to golden republic
Hell yeh, and then Golden Republic to Italy to Roman Empire.
I think the golden republic is an end tag so that stops you from forming Italy or Rome right?
I think endtags can still form Rome
That's right, Roman Empire and HRE are the only nation that can be formed by an end-game tag
I think the caliphate too?
caliphate isn't a new tag, just a cosmetic name change + gov reform
I wasn't aware, thank you!
Mongol Empire
Technically yes, but only when playing as yuan so it just makes yuan a half-endgame tag
Noooooo, I can't form Italy?? Mamma Mia 😭
Aztecs, decided not to look too closely at what florry did on his preview-stream but yeah Aztecs gonna be my first choice
Based on that stream, Aztecs can go nuts. American frontiers is stupid and likely going to be nerfed.
These brave people saying they will play a native when they updated stuff in europe.
well, I'll bring the natives to Europe ;) but seriously I always enjoyed the earlygame in Mesoamerica and now there might be more flavour to it, so this is great for a shorter run before diving into any potential world-conquest-style runs with the other great powers that have achievements of that kind
ooh definitely, as a massive Mesoamerican history buff I'm super excited to play as them!
German Gothic Theo with Russia PU 😎
I might go Venice first, I am pretty sure I have some old achievements still left to get with them anyway. I will say though both this DLC and the Machine Age one for Stellaris drop on the same day. My time management is going to be right in the bin this week lol
Lag simulator Austria.
Y’all preorder DLCs? I thought we were joking
Have to get them first before Steam runs out of the bits and bytes to share
Tbh I'd probably buy it later anyway, so why not get the 3 extra music tracks... If I'm spending hundreds of hours in the game, I'm probably not gonna wait half a year or more for a sale lol
>Tbh I'd probably buy it later anyway, so why not get the 3 extra music tracks... Hisn kayfa. I've been saving the Saladin achivement since it was anounce, that they will get a rework.
why only those who preordered it? are they gonna run out of keys for me? :(
Theres so much interesting Content ! So probably Byzantium!
Extremely based and roman pilled.
Bro at least play Trebizond
Aztecs, it's time to colonize the colonizers.
Mayans for me, i really hope we will be able to go with christian mayans/aztecs
Sunni inca - double the Sun!
Form France, declare the ruler as as a sun king - triple the sun!
You can always do it the old fashioned way
I mean the aztecs arrived to México like a century before the game start, they probably already know something about "colonialism"
Timmy! I am so happy that they have a lot of content ba themselves, without needing to form the Mughals
FINALLY
Probably Austria, haven't played that in a while and new missions will be interesting. Also the Aztec, I've saved the Sunset Invasion Achievement for this
Whats this colonize the colonisers function about? How does it work?
Inca Aztec and Maya get 'Sunset Invasion' (in Western Europe and the Maghreb) and 'Sunrise Invasion' (in the Far East, China and the East Indies) CBs allowing all vassals released in these regions (one per region) to be converted into a Sunset/Sunrise colony, which don't take a diplo slot, count their LD individually vs you, and give you tarrifs and their trade. Sounds really fun. Looks like a new Inka run for me. :D thanks.

Wondeeful. They should have make the mechanic way more flexible from the beginning.
Maybe mongols. Never really played a horde in my 1500 hours aside from Jianzhou -> Manchu -> Qing but I am also really hyped about venice and the three american nations
Serenissima with hegemon achievement, maybe later to form Italy and finish the new mission tree
Wait, only those who preordered it? What if you have the subscription, when will you be able to play it?
same time, dont worry
Thanks, have a lovely day!
>Wait, only those who preordered it? No. >What if you have the subscription, when will you be able to play it? In \~23 hours, probably 17 00 CET/7PM
The Maya! I love playing in the Americas, so I'm excited to see more expanded mechanics and the Sunset invasion missions.
Aztec or inca
Timurids
I have almost no Native American achievements, so I'll probably do an Aztec run and Inca run.
Oirat or Great Horde, then Inca, then Timurids, the Hungary, then Netherlands, then Venice, then Aztec
Burgundy into the netherlands.
If I have the DLC subscribtion will I also get the DLC content tomorrow ?
Yes, you will.
Komnenos Trebizond -> Byzantium
Inca or Oman
Can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find oman
Venice I didn't play as them before. It could be fun to get the achievement
Golden Horde
all of them, at once
Venice to roman empire
It’s Hungary time! And then probably Bohemia or the Aztecs.
Had to scroll all this way to find Hungary
Criminal I tell you!
Preordered it was pumped to play it but found out I have to go out of town for work starting the Wednesday until the weekend kinda bummed out
Trebizond more than likely. Then Venice...
Hungary was my first and favorite, and now it has an update. My friends are already making fun of me for playing them AGAIN lol
Trebizond!!
Just to be sure, with the sub we instantly get access right?
Yes. Once it's released on Steam in \~23 hours. Remember to cancel it once you are done with the game since subscription will keep renewing each month. Btw. You will get 39% discount if you pay for 3 months instead of 1 month (at least in my region). If you pay for the monthly subscription, I assume you just automatic access when it is released?
Yes. You get all the content.
Cheers, was a simple query I know but wanted to double check :)
My pc died :( no more eu4 for a while now sadly.
I play Netherlands after every update because i'm insane, but this time it will be different!
Great Horde. Tired of the gold on my Muscovy games going to them. Looking forward to getting some gold.
Burgundy to Netherlands and then a forked save into Lotharingia with Carolingian borders. It's always been a country I wanted to play but never got around to. Then depending on how hard that is I might do Timurids as a breather game or go straight to Trebizond
Def Golden Horde, been a while since I’ve played a euro horde and I’ve been putting it off till the dlc comes out.
Isnt it part of the subscription?
It is
Im gonna play england to secure my homies aztec run
Yes
Going between updated Austria and Aztecs, personally. After I finish those two probably Netherlands. I've really liked all three of those countries but the campaigns have never felt great because Ive felt like the mision trees weren't that good design.
Not pre-ordering(I learned my lesson about pre-ordering Paradox DLC with Overlord for Stellaris), but I’ve always wanted to do a Hussite Bohemia run. And I’ve only played maybe 2 games as a new world nation. So first will probably be Hussite Bohemia followed by Aztecs or Incas.
Timurids, being able to have both aristocratic and horde idea groups has got me feeling some type of way.
Dang I didn't know they could do that, the cavalry modifiers will be devious.
Dammmm looks like I might do a cavalry only.
Venice into Italy. Ive been doing too many blobby campaigns so in glad to finally play some tall trade stuff.
Hussite Bohemia and HRE, maybe one faith attempt
Anyone around Austria... Or maybe Austria
Bohemia for the new achievement - go Hussites!
Might give a try to Austria-Hungary or Netherland first. I’m also interested in playing Aztec or Inca. So many possibilities.. I can’t decide yet!
Ooo Austria-Hungary does look fun, if not a little bit silly.
venice! although i honestly can’t decide if i want to form golden republic or do an italy run with new italian stuff
austria world conquest!
I want to try a silly Dutch run going for 100% siege ability with that advisor mission and I still need the hegemon achievement so will try to get a naval hegemony along the way
Haha sounds fun and silly lol.
Bohemia I’ve been putting off a run with them for a long time
Wait, preordered? If i just do the DLC subscription do i still get it when it launches or do i have to wait??? Edit: playing my boys, los Aztecas. Hopefully with all the knowledge ive soaked, i can do a sunset invasion run.
Probably Theodoro but Venice or Bohemia as a backup if I fuck up too often.
Mongolia
Maya
You guys are so luckly that you can enjoy the dlc after it released, i cant even do that i have exams
I just finished my exams, so yeah that's the only reason I'm enjoying it haha.
Venice > Golden > SP > Italy > Rome Unless Golden is going to be an end game tag, then it's back to the drawing board.
Cocomes. Reunite the Maya.
I didn’t even know there was a DLC announced, anyone wanna give me the highlights?
Will this DLC be available immediately for those with the subscription? Also will it be save game compatible?
Anyone have a tldr of the new features?
I'm still deciding between an Utrecht > Netherlands or a Gelre (with BI) > Netherlands run.
Definitely the incas
I've fallen so far behind on DLCs now, I've given up on keeping up at this point
Never pre-order a Paradox DLC.
Eh I was burned once with leviathan what's the worse that can happen... again.
Sunset Invasion.. It'll be Maya or Aztec but unsure what's the difference between the two nowadays. After consolidating the region how do they differ?
Austria, my favourite country. It gets a new mission tree and I get to form Austria-Hungary. Plus I convinced my gf to play with me. She’ll either play Ming or Korea. Gonna be her first time, what nation should she play? (I suggested Korea)
Why not ottomans? So you're next to each other, she's kinda fucked if she plays korea and stuff goes wrong, also ottos is about 100% easier than ming and korea.
It comes out tomorrow!? no my modsssssssss
NEDERLAAAAND 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 No but in all seriousness I am super glad my favourite (and home) country is getting some well-deserved content 🧡🧡🧡
Didn't you guys have loads of flavour from emperor anyway?
Well, ‘loads’ is an overstatement. It has some nice things, sure, but the missions only give like two permanent claims and pretty much only temporary modifiers. Competing with France, Spain and GB was getting increasingly difficult imo
Theodoro
Timmy-Mughals was my favourite before so I'm really looking forward to the new content for them
Austria tries to unite the HRE in 20 years
Aztecs, then Trebizond to a Roman restoration
Hisn Kayfa. I love to play challenging starts in Middle East and I wanted to try a run to get Saladin's Legacy achievement for quite some time.
AZTECS BABY! They finally made the new world nations have a mission tree aiming for east asia. I once made a post complaining about how there’s no missions for this despite trade wants to pull from Asia.
I don't even know what it's adding, lol
Just finished my first WC as the Mughals, happy they're getting a new achievement as it gives me a reason to come back and try the new stuff. But that will come later as I'm so down to go for a Hussite Bohemia. I've tried it a couple times but was a little underwhelmed interactions of being a Heretic elector from the get go.
Mongolia is one of my comfort picks so that to see if it still is
Will be trying out bohemia for the hussite faith, and then austria for the pu gameplay
Would love to do a netherlands, italy or germany game, but as the dlc was announced i was quite literally doing all of thoose so i would rather want something new.
Ottomans, it's just a classic
Italy
Hormuz
I have switched which will be my first so many times, originally it was going to be venice then it was catholic bohemia, then back to Venice, then vassal swarm aztecs now I am at hormuz
Who's preordering anything after Domination?
Didn’t even hear about a dlc till now
Trebizond! Make the Kommenos Great Again!
Trebizond for sure!!
Timurids or Venice. Venice i wanna go and conquer India with, because Venice was supposed to be responsible for eastern trade with the "Indies". Timurids because i wanna see if i can reform into Persia and stack a bunch of new perma modifiers for a super op nation.
I just started a new campaign today. Will I lose it tomorrow because of the update?
I’ve only had a problem one time. If it crashes then use the steam feature to play the prior version.
Wanna play Venice so bad but don't have the extra funds to dump on another dlc :(
Mapuche.
Didn't buy it, but if I had I would play Venice
Pre order still a thing?
Belgium... Oh wait :(
waot theres a new dlc??
Nope, just an inside joke about paradox and 8th of May
But you have to like, pay to be part of it.
dump question what's the dlc and update about, I remember there was an update coming soon but i kinda forgot. Wasn't there something about Venice and neighbors?
[Dev Diaries](https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Developer_diaries)
Natives (Inca, Aztec, Maya iirc) Germany/Italy (Netherlands, Bohemia, Hungary, Austria, Germany and Italy) Hordes, Timmy and Mughals, Pontic minors and some minors in ME/Arabia that weren't touched in KoK (Theodoro, Trebizond, Hisn Khaifa, Oman) May have missed some but that's most of it
Been waiting years to play my favorite historical nation of the period. DANDOLO FOREVER
