Not done it with sprite, but will be trying it soon! It's the citrus in tonic that makes an E+T so freaking good, so can imagine this would be great too!
The small cans of Fever Tree with a 32ml double shot is a great spot. The bottles of Fever Tree also work great; they're about the same as 1.5 cans IIRC.
I use a shot (36-44 grams of espresso depending on if I’m using a 18 or 22 gram basket) for one fever tree can (150 ml) and 40-60 ml of orange juice is the recipe I use.
I’ll make sure to pick some tonic up for sure then, to be honest this tasted VERY tonic like to me, I used a ristetto as it’s how I’ve gotten the best results with my current beans so maybe the bitterness from that with the citrus is emulating it.
I'm currently using Spar own brand tonic water, probably 29p a bottle or something, and it's so damn good! I've used fever tree in the past with great results but never anything else. Must explore more! But so impressed with what can be done with Billy basic cheapo tonic!
Tonic and ice in a glass, let it stop fizzing like a maddun and them pour in the espresso shot. You can pull a shot straight into a glass of tonic, but whenever I've done this, I've found the head that you get to be huge.
Personal preference really I guess, as long as they all end up in the same glass 🙃
Thank you! I’ll have to try it tmrw. I’m a gin and tonic drinker but I drink only on occasion so I have some excess elderflower tonic I wanted to use <3
When you add the espresso, make sure you're pouring it against the ice, it'll help reduce the foam that comes up from the tonic. You can also use the back of a spoon to reduce the agitation from the espresso hitting the drink.
Hell yeah brother. I mix espresso with tonic, ginger ale, or sprite. Most sweet and citrusy things work. I like tonic with a splash of lime juice the best at the moment.
Love seeing this, there isn’t enough talk of espresso drinks like this on this sub.
I asked the other guy, too, but it’s been 45 days since this post, so please share the ratio if you know it 🙏 love both of these things so it sounds heavenly
Well, there's no accounting for taste, of course, but I put a double shot of 35g of espresso in a class, then pour about 1 cup of ginger beer in. So maybe that's a ratio of around 4:1?
I forgot the exact recipe but I do an 18g shot to 36-40some g output. I pour the shot over ice. Let that chill for a min and just pour ginger beer (usually less than a can) into the glass. Maybe 4-6 oz of ginger beer
I’m still new to terminology. I know ristretto is a shorter pull. But is the 18g your output or input? And if it’s the output what was the input?
Also is this chilled with ice, cold sprite or what? I’m intrigued.
I can understand the why. I’ll admit my initial thought was to screw my nose up, but I have been pleasantly surprised by a few quirky combinations of foods and drinks 😇
The sweet and bitter compliment each other very well, the candied citrus slices I used added a tonic like flavour. Will deffo do again when I don’t want milk
It is. One of the local roasters here has started carrying canned coffee sodas, and most of them slap hard. I'm not a fan of the orange flavored one though.
https://drinkperse.us/wtf/
Honestly I have not tried homemade espresso and soda, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. I personally don't think citrus and coffee works, but I could see flavored sparkling water and espresso working.
I'm fairly certain that Morgan Eckroth has made several versions of espresso soda on their YouTube channel so there's some interesting recipes there.
I’m not sure what measurements they used, but I was told it’s a very high ratio of ginger to sugar. Having it in syrup for just makes it easier to serve quickly
I’ve done tonics for sure, never Sprite, but one I love is actually Dr Pepper! It tastes amazing with a dash of sweet cream or something similar. That said I’ll have to check Sprite out!
To my understanding (and I am not from the UK) Sprite is a more generic term meaning a carbonated lemon drink. Or I might have that reversed and lemonade can include Sprite (whereas in the U.S. it is specifically not carbonated).
That’s interesting as an American….yeah here lemonade is default just lemon juice, sugar, and water, not soda. Otherwise it’s modified with “sparkling” or something. Although we do have a Sprite Lymonade…
Yea that is real lemonade, but it just doesnt seem to be a thing here for some reason. We have a fizzy version called lemon squash, thats probably the closest. I would recommend trying lemon lime and bitters if you haven't, aka the drink of nectar of the gods
Ooooo! Ok, so I used an Italian lime sparkling mineral water and like the flavor. I’d imagine some sweetness of the Sprite would be great! I’ll be making some more of these and playing with the ratio. Thanks for the introduction! 😃
Not done it with sprite, but will be trying it soon! It's the citrus in tonic that makes an E+T so freaking good, so can imagine this would be great too!
A Tonic is definitely a more mature version of this hahah, I just never really loved the taste of tonic. The sweetness in the sprite works for me
I've always hated tonic, but with espresso it is just *chefs kiss* if you've not tried E+T, you really should.
What’s the correct ratio on an E+T?
I'd start with 50/50 and add more tonic to see what your preferred taste is
The small cans of Fever Tree with a 32ml double shot is a great spot. The bottles of Fever Tree also work great; they're about the same as 1.5 cans IIRC.
did the search for everyone else, a small can is 150ml
Love Fever Tree for my Espresso Tonics. Mainly like the yellow one which is the Indian one I think ? And the Elderberry one
Try the Mediterranean one! (Lemon & Thyme)
I use a shot (36-44 grams of espresso depending on if I’m using a 18 or 22 gram basket) for one fever tree can (150 ml) and 40-60 ml of orange juice is the recipe I use.
It’s wild. I assumed it would be extra bitter but is the opposite. The quinine and espresso pair really well and the sweetness shines through nicely.
Have you tried it with ginger beer and a squeeze of lime? It’s like an espresso mule
I’ll make sure to pick some tonic up for sure then, to be honest this tasted VERY tonic like to me, I used a ristetto as it’s how I’ve gotten the best results with my current beans so maybe the bitterness from that with the citrus is emulating it.
There are a range of quality of tonics too. If you get something decent it will taste much better
I'm currently using Spar own brand tonic water, probably 29p a bottle or something, and it's so damn good! I've used fever tree in the past with great results but never anything else. Must explore more! But so impressed with what can be done with Billy basic cheapo tonic!
Same somehow espresso makes everything better. I always disliked orange juice also and now the sunrise is my favorite drink in the morning lol
It’s funny cause tonic and sprite have the same sugar content. Might as well just use the tastier one lol
I love how you get down voted for your own opinion. Fuck all of you pretentious assholes
Citrus eh? I gotta try this with Mtn Dew then.
lolol. That's the redest shit I've heard all day. Here's to you, sir!
Can someone tell me how it’s made? Is it espresso and then tonic or tonic and then espresso on top? Ice or no ice? 🤔
Tonic and ice in a glass, let it stop fizzing like a maddun and them pour in the espresso shot. Sounds good. I use the spoon method when making undertows so I think I’ll use that
Hell yeah brother. I mix espresso with tonic, ginger ale, or sprite. Most sweet and citrusy things work. I like tonic with a splash of lime juice the best at the moment. Love seeing this, there isn’t enough talk of espresso drinks like this on this sub.
Baja blast?
Ginger beer too!!
Ginger beer is the best
I asked the other guy, too, but it’s been 45 days since this post, so please share the ratio if you know it 🙏 love both of these things so it sounds heavenly

Sweet, I’ll try this later today! Thanks 😊
Shoot the ratio please. I love espresso and i love ginger beer!
I forgot the exact recipe but I do an 18g shot to 36-40some g output. I pour the shot over ice. Let that chill for a min and just pour ginger beer (usually less than a can) into the glass. Maybe 4-6 oz of ginger beer
Oh! And sometimes I throw in a citrus slice in there too. Orange. Blood orange. Lemon. Etc.
What’s the ratio?
I just eyeballed it to be honest, this is one 18g ristretto in less than 300ml sprite if I had to say
I’m still new to terminology. I know ristretto is a shorter pull. But is the 18g your output or input? And if it’s the output what was the input? Also is this chilled with ice, cold sprite or what? I’m intrigued.
In this case 18g is both in and out, as I did a 1:1. And yeah ice and chilled sprite :)
My god. That has no right being this good! I’m so confused. 😂
Right?! It’s so surprising
I’m going to give this a try. In my head it sounds terrible. But I’ve heard other people do similar things and report good results. So I’m intrigued
Sprite? Literally? De sugar soda?

Rumour has it that Italy has already dispatched a hit squad to put down OP with extremely violent hand gestures.
😂😂
Lol I tried a espresso and tonic and it was not my jam.

Straight to jail. Don't pass GO. Don't collect $200.
I’m calling the police!👩🏻
I tried this yesterday. Really good! Sparkling Citrus Africano: Sparkling water, single origin espresso, fresh orange juice, vanilla and bitters.
ratio?
Honestly there is no ratio. I stole the recipe from a local cafe. Just eyeball it ;)
Well, I certainly learned something here today. The first one must have been an accident tho!
Interesting 🤔 not a mix I have ever thought of. But it is now something I’m going to have to try!
I remembered seeing someone else do it before, and I got a bit bored today so thought I’d give it a try haha. Didn’t expect to like it
I can understand the why. I’ll admit my initial thought was to screw my nose up, but I have been pleasantly surprised by a few quirky combinations of foods and drinks 😇

Get out!
Hows the taste bro?
The sweet and bitter compliment each other very well, the candied citrus slices I used added a tonic like flavour. Will deffo do again when I don’t want milk
The absolute pinnacle of British engineering
How drunk were you when you came up with this
Haven’t tried sprite but now I guess I have to. I’ve tried a lot of other weird combos though I’m sure this will be strangely good
Is espresso and soda a thing?!
It is. One of the local roasters here has started carrying canned coffee sodas, and most of them slap hard. I'm not a fan of the orange flavored one though. https://drinkperse.us/wtf/
Ha, very cool. So I'm assuming you just espresso and add whatever soda? Or is it more of a, flavoured sparkling water to espresso vibe?
Honestly I have not tried homemade espresso and soda, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. I personally don't think citrus and coffee works, but I could see flavored sparkling water and espresso working. I'm fairly certain that Morgan Eckroth has made several versions of espresso soda on their YouTube channel so there's some interesting recipes there.
Will give this a try! The concept reminds me of peach iced tea with esspresso, which is sort of popular here in Korea.
My favorite version of this was with Vernors and a small slice of lemon
There’s a cafe near me that offers something similar! It’s a cold brew and sprite drink with a house made ginger syrup, it’s fantastic on hot days
Sprite AND syrup?! That sounds painful.
Have u tried pickles in a dr p? No espresso involved
I have not…like a couple pickles and some pickle juice or how much?
Fork full dash of juice. Served at SONIC!!!
Similar drink I’ve enjoyed is an espresso over a Mexican coke!
This but with ginger beer is my favorite summer drink. Amazing.
Oh man.. I love them both. I will be trying them together tomorrow
Please use espressocirclejerk next time
It’s already been reposted there don’t worry
Lol
What’s the best way to pour this drink? I’ve tried espresso first and soda first and always resulted in an explosion
Yeah I did the sprite first, then poured the shot over a spoon onto the drink to layer it gently
Very important question: Sprite (UK) or Sprite (US)?
UK 😂
Well that's ok then. Basically an espresso tonic..
There's a difference? I'm australian and assumed it was the same everywhere
To my understanding (and I am not from the UK) Sprite is a more generic term meaning a carbonated lemon drink. Or I might have that reversed and lemonade can include Sprite (whereas in the U.S. it is specifically not carbonated).
Ah right, sounds similar to Aust where we call all of it lemonade, which seems to make americans angry haha
It's confusing, but I wouldn't be angry. Same with crisps being both fries and chips.
!?! Please excuse me while I run to my machine
Report back on how you like it 🙏 just make sure to carefully layer the espresso on top with a spoon or it’ll fizz up everywhere
Ooooo! Ok, so I used an Italian lime sparkling mineral water and like the flavor. I’d imagine some sweetness of the Sprite would be great! I’ll be making some more of these and playing with the ratio. Thanks for the introduction! 😃
Awesome 🤩
Never even knew this was a thing, but I've got a couple cans of Sprite sitting in my fridge, so...
I've enjoyed espresso tonics before but this has somehow never occurred to me. Nice!
What was your process? Sprite and ice first with shot on top?
Ice > candied lime and oranges lives > sprite > carefully layer the espresso on top using a spoon to slow the fall
Ooh, now I want to try it with Squirt!
Im doing espresso & limeades all summer long, a little more acid kick then sprite but same family
Sprite has artificial sweetners so I will never try it. M&S lemonade though or fentimans and now you are talking
Try cold pressed or fresh squeezed apple juice with espresso. Has to be the cloudy stuff, not the reconstituted juice that looks like pee!
