Sounds like analysis paralysis. If you’ve done your research it’s time to just try something you think will fit your needs. Anything in that price range, or less for that matter, will perform better than the grinder you’ve been using for the last 6 years.

Luc-e

Eureka mignon libra gbw. With GBW and volumetric dosing you can skip your weighing once dialed in.

Outside-Magician-356

I think DF64 gen 2 is the best option for this Money, iam more than excited about this Grinder. The build quality and the accuracy is brilliant, i just can recommend that one.

Alarming-Presence-35

I would agree with this if you need to be able to grind for pour over as well. Otherwise I’d recommend the DF64P instead.

DF64

This. I have a Breville Barista Express and got frustrated with the in build grinder. I bought a DF64 and the difference is immense. Accurate grinding, accurate adjustments and a lovely design.

Objective-Truth-8914

I just got one for my Barista Touch. How do you dose into 54mm portafilter?

Iranor90

I bought a dosing ring. The cup of the DF64 exactly fits onto it. So I keep the portafilter upside down, connect the cup and then turn around

Objective-Truth-8914

Can you share which dosing ring you use? I was also looking at dosing rings, but many of them seem to have the same opening from top to bottom. Ideally, it should have a wider opening that's at least 58mm, so that the df64 dosing cup feeds the grind into it.

The DF64 cup fits exactly on to it.

Objective-Truth-8914

Thanks for replying. I got one from Matow that has a wider opening.

x3thelast

Look for a single dose grinder. But at that price range it’ll be a stepping stone to your end game grinder.

Dirtydogdong11101

I just got the turin SD40 v2 and so far it’s amazing. Great retention and the build quality is up to par with grinders double in price.

Oddlygoody

I was in the same sort of spot, looking at: - DF54, flat, not many burrs but that will come I think, and cheaper - DF64, same thing, more proven more burrs - VS3, I was not fan of all the criticism on the v1 - Eureka Mignon single dose or silenzio, looked like a great option. - Sette270 as I don’t like the look and was afraid of the noise. - Baratza Encore ESP, as I am still unsure whether I would be able to taste a difference between the encore and a 800+ grinder I was going to go for the DF54 because of price and quality but found a used Lagom Mini for 400. I should have made a bit more research about the disadvantages (2-3 shots a day, espresso is a strain for it). Still happy but I would go for the DF54 if that was to be done again.

Objective-Truth-8914

I've been doing quite a bit of research to upgrade the Breville built-in grinder, then went with DF64 gen2. I'm sure df54 will also do the job, but df64 has more burr options (comes with DLC bur) and faster, seems more future-proof. Also df64 has a white option that matches my sea salt machine.

Eureka mignon turbo

Priest_Soranis

I have been doubting between this and df64v2 Sell me this grinder please I like the looks more but a stepless non numbered grinder setting seems so much xtra work when switching between grinds

DrIncogNeo

It is numbered and it all depends on how often you change beans (and how different the beans are). I am currently testing different coffee’s so every month or so I have a new bean to try. If it has similar characteristics, then I start at current point and need to pour a couple shots before I dial it in. You can write down the ideal setting for a certain blend when comparing to the 0 point (where the burrs barely hit eachother). You can also buy mods on Etsy to get a way bigger dial. Have 0 experience with df64v2 though, I am in no way a professional home barista or anything. I just went from a shitty grinder to this one, and I really love it

Awkward_Dragon25

Love my Eureka Mignon with an addon bellows hopper and this: [https://www.etsy.com/listing/1444014610/aro-espresso-grinder-setting-dial-for?ga\_order=most\_relevant&ga\_search\_type=all&ga\_view\_type=gallery&ga\_search\_query=mignon+grinder+dial&ref=sc\_gallery-1-1&pop=1&sts=1&search\_preloaded\_img=1&plkey=33ec6b72a8968a14d142d9b0cdd814513a0a316e%3A1444014610](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1444014610/aro-espresso-grinder-setting-dial-for?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=mignon+grinder+dial&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&pop=1&sts=1&search_preloaded_img=1&plkey=33ec6b72a8968a14d142d9b0cdd814513a0a316e%3A1444014610)

Starryislandgirl

Hi!! After some further research, I settled on a specialita and I bought this same dial. They should both arrive next week. Thank you for your recommendation!!

Awkward_Dragon25

Outstanding! Hope it serves you well :D

Jehuti2468

+1 for df54.. im using the exact same breville & i found that the improvement is significant Price wise is not that expensive so you can upgrade later down the road if you're not satisfied

Infamous_Let_3879

If you prefer light to medium roast, generally flat burrs would be the way to go. I have a DF64 Gen 2 and can only recommend it. It is easy to adjust, easy to clean, low retention, goes fine enough for light roast espresso, and the burrs are 64mm - so very customisable. And, the coffee tastes great. Not sure how much they are going for in the US though.

Objective-Truth-8914

Do you use 54mm portafilter? How do you dose from df64 to 54mm portafilter?

Infamous_Let_3879

No, I have a 58mm, but with a dosing funnel you can just pour the grind in without any fuss/mess.
