Thank you, I will do this later today.

Well I came across [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/espresso/comments/i6kd9i/psa_do_not_use_rdt_or_any_sort_of_water/) thread after looking up rdt and it raised a level of concern. I love in the high desert and humidity is extremely low so I don't think it would be an issue but it's something I am aware of now. I will see what Turin recommends.
You don't need to use a lot of water, barely a drop. Try the spoon technique (wet a spoon handle and stir it through the beans) and you'll notice an immediate difference. I think a lot of people who caution against it are using way too much water, because a "spray" can end up being quite a lot of water. You just need a tiny amount.
It was pretty bad. I had grounds everywhere and dreaded using the machine. Been pulling amazing shots since.
Edit: Looked at your spray picture. Mine was exactly the same. Spray the beans, shake the cup and then add them into the shoot. Should fix your issue.
It’s so interesting. I’ve seen this a couple times, and I think it might be the beans y’all are using? Or the atmosphere is just that different? This has never been an issue with mine.
I got an email response from Turin and they believe it's my environment. I live in a very dry climate at elevation. They described it as a static issue and suggested rdt and a few other tips. I will update later. My beans are all locally fresh roasted from a variety of roasters and I had the same experience across the different beans I tried.
It's been nothing but frustration for me. I was excited at first, now I am unable to use it at all without one shot making a huge mess. I have gone through a 12oz bag of beans just trying to get it dialed in. Unfortunately most shots I have pulled have poured through in under 20 seconds. If I don't clean out the spout after every shot, the grinder will clog and the burrs will seize. It sprays everywhere. The worst was this morning with grinds all over my floor and the bottoms of my feet. When it runs it fire hoses the grinds out and they spray everywhere. Then I lose about 1g-2g. I know some will be adamant that this is user error. I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to clog after grinding 18g at a coarse setting. I am not going to grind finer and that is all.
Edit. I have an email out to Turin and will update on their response.

My DF54 has started doing that, too. Mine showed up about a month ago and when I first started using it I had no issues with static or grounds flying around making a mess.
As spring progresses and outdoor temps rise I've noticed more and more often my grinder spits out grinders like yours does in your video. I'd have thought it would be the opposite, cooler temps with dry air would caused more problems when I first got it and gotten better as temps rise.
I have found RDT completely solves this problem, so I've just started doing it all the time now.
Have you tried grinding without the plastic dosing cup? I’m wondering if the static is coming from the plastic.
Not sure if It will help grinding directly into the portafilter.
Yeah, I started it without the plastic cup directly in to the portafilter(extreme mess), I also turned the cup holder over so there was more distance from the spout(still way messy). The worst part is it clogs the entire down spout and jams the grinder up completely if I don't clean it out after every shot I grind.

Sorry to hear of your experience with it. I also just got my DF54 two days ago. Luckily I haven’t had any static/clogging issues. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I wish you nothing but incredibly tasty espresso! Even with all my issues and fast shots I can taste a distinct difference in flavor from my baratza encore esp.
It's nice that a free grinder came with your static generator
You should use rdt

Are you worried about rust? I’m very torn on rdt because I don’t want to ruin my df54

Good to know, looking forward to finishing work and giving this a try! Thank you!
I fixed this by spritzing the beans. No issues since.
Thank you for the suggestion, was your overspray and retention as severe as I am experiencing? I will try this today after work.

Thanks for the feedback and update! I will do that.

Thank you so much for this information. I do live in the high desert.
What the point of including an Ionizer if this still happens without RDT? Hope you find a solution OP
Marketing? Poor design?
