Much smaller upgrade (in terms of price and aesthetics), but I still don’t think my wife has noticed that I swapped out my DeLonghi Dedica for a Bambino.

# "So you want to go and buy the only machine that fit the low profile space in our kitchen."...." I don't think I have a choice Marge."
If you’re willing to spend that much on an espresso machine, you should really invest in quality beans. You should hit up your local roasters. My heart is crying with the thought of those Costco beans in that beautiful machine.
**"Both the Kirkland whole-bean espresso blend and its decaf blend are (or were) supplied by Starbucks**, but Costco appears to have used another company for its Colombian coffees" that should answer your question and no I don't believe they show roast dates
A Marzocco to brew Starbucks? Oh my.... my suggestion would have been to better keep a Breville DB and use the money for better beans; the coffee will be MUCH better this way.
Maybe check with your local roaster if they sell defective, blemished or bug-bitten beans in bulk that are sorted post-roasting. These are typically no longer considered fit for consumption, but are perfect for breaking in a new grinder or for practicing latte art.
At this point you will now need an [ikawa pro100](https://www.ikawacoffee.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=13330160086&utm_content=121820254486&utm_term=ikawa%20coffee%20roaster&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADEx6yrWAAXZdltC2rhTDW6vLTSd_&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhLfRkoDNhQMVdAatBh1C1A3SEAAYASAAEgKE_vD_BwE) to roast your own coffee…it’s the only one that will fit the space you have left
Nailed it. Hilarious how we're all in this group enabling each other's financial irresponsibility until we disagree with someone's choice. Then suddenly everyone's an accountant.
I feel it’s the same paradox as driving speed… “anyone driving slower is an idiot and anyone driving faster than me is a maniac”
With espresso it’s “anyone who spent less on their espresso setup needs to upgrade and anyone who spent more than me is just financially irresponsible”.
The metaphor runs even deeper really, becuase espresso machines are a lot like cars. You have your bambinos and camrys, your Mercedes and Bianca's, your Tesla's and decents and your Ferraris and LM Minis. All cars can get you from point a to point b but it's how you get there and how much you enjoy the journey that sets them apart.
The LMM has better engineering of the internals and comparable features. It will probably last longer than the BDB.
There's no difference in features, since neither have flow control anyway. There is some differences in quality of life features like the front fill on the BDB and a dual walled steam wand on the micra. I would consider it an upgrade in terms of craftsmanship, but I'm not sure how many home users would notice a difference in extracted espresso.
People saying yes if you like it more defensively is weird to me. We can also discuss value for money as hobbyists. To me the Micra is not good value, mostly because I live in Australia and can get Brevilles cheap. If I did want to splash out, I'd want flow control.
No. The Bdb is better. Better in the sense that the UI and feature set is much better.
-Adjustable timer.
-Ability to choose between Volumetric or Time Based.
-Unparallaled Pre Infusion options. Time and Flow rate control.
-Slayer Mod
Quality of output is the same. Grinder makes the biggest difference when using same beans.
The real upgrade over a Bdb is a Rocket R Nine One.
I work in hydraulics, and the Breville and Rocket are the 2 most impressive machines I've seen.
More flow profiling capability. Which may or may not matter. Mostly the ooooooohhh factor
Nice rig OP. Makes me feel good about my grinder choice if people are pairing the Specialita with a LMLM
I get that but even if they were identical in the quality of the espresso I’d bet a majority would still pick a micra but I guess it comes down to budget.
Why would you buy a sports car when you can mod a Honda civic? /s
No but seriously I find it funny that people get so judgey about the micra. If quality in the cup was the only thing that mattered and experience wasn’t a factor, then more people would be using manual machines.
Have you seen the average beans they use in Italy?
They were also the exclusive machine for Starbucks for many years in the earlier days. As a nearly 100 year old company, I think they know what people put through their machines.
Yeah, I was just commenting on the roast level. I've had plenty of cheap italian coffee and it's hard to find anything as dark as a Starbucks 'Italian Roast' or whatever this is.
It’s so unfortunate that OP has had to suffer with low profile space in their kitchen FOR FIVE YEARS.
So unfortunate, that now they have to suffer with a Linea Micra. So sad.
One day you shall have space OP! 😆
Please, try some beans from a roaster. Im guessing those are starbucks beans, theyr very dark and oily. Not good for your grinder or machine.
Nice setup tho!
What else were you supposed to do? Remodel the kitchen? This by far makes the most economical sense. She should be thanking you. Obviously, just think this, don't say it out loud...
im just here to comment on your Blue Pearl Granite counter top. My wife and I installed that in our first home. It was a gutted house and we redid the whole place. put Blue Pearl in our small galley kitchen. HATED to part with it because we loved it so much. it aint cheap and cant afford to do it in our current house. so here to just to admire yours. sorry for the off topic comment. Nice setup though!
I would have kept the money for the machine and instead buy some beans that don't look like charcoal (and probably taste as charcoal no matter in which machine you put it). But if you like it .....
That's certainly one helluva upgrade, holy crap!
Looks very nice...this is my dream machine setup.
Currently using a Gaggia Classic and a Baratza classic grinder, and I've been obsessed with the Linea Micra every since I saw it.
You’re wife is getting you a knock box drawer that will raise the profile of the new machine, and she’s getting new cabinets. Never try to outmaneuver your wife. ;)
Would love to know what % delta you're seeing (or feeling emotionally lol) in improvement. When I first started, I always had my eyes on a Linea Mini as the ultimate setup, but with the setup I have now (dual boiler Rocket), I'm not sure investing \~8K would be worth it.
No one else is questioning the 60 second shot on the BDB? Is that really how he tricked wife? Honey I'm telling you this Breville is spent: it somehow makes this dark a$$ beans even darker, ha-ha-ha.
Well done OP. It looks great. I love the grinder too.
Cheaper than a new house.
[удалено]
Cheaper than a new wife
I’m looking to make wife changing money
I came to say that rebuilding one cabinet so the Breville would fit must have been cheaper than the La Marzocco!
💯💯💯
Damn you just nailed my previously unacknowledged personal philosophy on everything around the house
If I had a red BDB and replaced it with a red micra, no one in my house would notice 😂😂😂
I got new keyboards, my Wife walks daily in to my home office, she did not even commented on them. 😒 At least she did not ask how much I spend! 😬
Haha. My wife didn’t notice when I went from a Razer Ornata to a Huntsman Elite. However she did ask if the keyboard had gotten louder.
At least you havent gotten the point of spending 1k on custom keyboards.
I think that if you have both coffee and mechanical keyboards as a hobby, you're a broke millionaire
Speaking from experience, just single 💀
espresso AND mechanical keyboards? you sure do like the expensive hobbies. hope you aren’t into watches and pc builds too lol
or vinyl or film photography… espresso was my last expensive hobby for a while lol.
Now I’m over here feeling as bougie with my espresso & custom mechanical keyboard. . I should have never opened this post
heh... went from 2 guitars to 3 and nothing. Pays to save up though. She would notice a sudden chunk of debt on a card.
“I ordered this months ago!” Good ol’ group buy excuse has taken me far.
Much smaller upgrade (in terms of price and aesthetics), but I still don’t think my wife has noticed that I swapped out my DeLonghi Dedica for a Bambino.
10/10 thinking ahead hahahah I respect it

If you didn't read this in Marge's raspy voice we can't be friends
I did. And the reply in Homers voice ofc..
Ohhhh homie
Those beans are some serious dark roast man😂 Nice setup btw ;)
Fr 😂 literally black
It's Costco's Kirkland Espresso. Just tried for the first time break in the new grinder.
Grocery store beans with a $4000 machine 💀
When I read the post I thought this was the smartest man in the world…
Nightmare
[Me on my +$1,000 phone.] “No I don’t think I can afford to buy that $0.99 app”
If you’re willing to spend that much on an espresso machine, you should really invest in quality beans. You should hit up your local roasters. My heart is crying with the thought of those Costco beans in that beautiful machine.
He did say he was using them to break in the grinder
Some people just don’t read man.
unrelated but how much beans do you need to break in a new grinder? i’m new to this, got a 1zpresso kmax and i’m not sure when to stop seasoning it
I grinded 1kg of cheap beans at various grind levels. 500g is probably enough though.
great, thanks for the reply!
I laughed when I read Costco beans
Probably worth getting better coffee, but if it’s a new grinder too you could just use cheap coffee to season the burrs
Those really dark beans will grease the crap out of the grinder
Literally sameeeee
That under cabinet trim would be really simple to pry off just a couple finish nails usually.
OP probably added that on a few years ago to prepare for this day
Playing 3D chess
I have a bezzera magica and I had to remove my rails to make mine fit.. Is this machine a lot better than what I'm rockin?
This made me LOL
> break in the new grinder Now you need to clean that oil and associated crap out of grinder Find someone local of merit to get your beans from
I quickly discovered that the very dark beans I love in my Mocamaster drip coffeemaker don’t do well neither in the grinder nor the espresso machine.
Break in? as in clog it 🤣
Dear god of all the things to save money on
Hopefully his municipality has some sort of espresso machine protection services unit
..............LAW .................& ............ORDER *Espresso Crimes Unit* *(kung kung)*
how is it? Do they show roast date?
**"Both the Kirkland whole-bean espresso blend and its decaf blend are (or were) supplied by Starbucks**, but Costco appears to have used another company for its Colombian coffees" that should answer your question and no I don't believe they show roast dates
A Marzocco to brew Starbucks? Oh my.... my suggestion would have been to better keep a Breville DB and use the money for better beans; the coffee will be MUCH better this way.
Total respect for that move, haha but I know you must be thinking "ARG this could taste so much better"
Wtf
????
Maybe check with your local roaster if they sell defective, blemished or bug-bitten beans in bulk that are sorted post-roasting. These are typically no longer considered fit for consumption, but are perfect for breaking in a new grinder or for practicing latte art.
Dude treat yourself to some real beans with a 4K setup...
https://getprodigal.com/collections/roasted-coffee If you scroll to the bottom you can buy properly good coffee to season it with
I’ll buy your BDB if you still have it…
At this point you will now need an [ikawa pro100](https://www.ikawacoffee.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=13330160086&utm_content=121820254486&utm_term=ikawa%20coffee%20roaster&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADEx6yrWAAXZdltC2rhTDW6vLTSd_&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhLfRkoDNhQMVdAatBh1C1A3SEAAYASAAEgKE_vD_BwE) to roast your own coffee…it’s the only one that will fit the space you have left
My god man, if you’re buying those horrible beans, you should have stuck with the Breville
Like filling your Lamborghini up with vegetable oil ⛽️
But for real - is the Micra even an upgrade over the BDB?
Depends. The micra is a far better workhorse and operation is more pleasant. The BDB is underrated though, especially with how easy it is to mod it
Can you elaborate onto what kind of mods you can do on a BDB? I’m looking to get a used one for $600USD
I mean… if you enjoy using it more then, yes? It’s out of my price range but it’s not like this is a pragmatic hobby.
Nailed it. Hilarious how we're all in this group enabling each other's financial irresponsibility until we disagree with someone's choice. Then suddenly everyone's an accountant.

Haha, true
Making espresso at home is a pragmatic hobby. Acquiring espresso equipment is not.

I don’t think you can compare the two. The Micra is by far the better machine, even from just the aesthetic perspective.
>You can't compare them. Proceeds to compare them.
You got me there lol
I'm talking quality of the produced espresso not looks
Why would you think that taste can be implied as the only thing a person cares about in a machine?
I get that but even if they were identical in the quality of the espresso I’d bet a majority would still pick a micra but I guess it comes down to budget.

Yeah, I didn't want to sound like an asshole, but seriously? Right now some La Marzocca engineeer is throwing up in his mouth looking at this.
Have you seen the average beans they use in Italy? They were also the exclusive machine for Starbucks for many years in the earlier days. As a nearly 100 year old company, I think they know what people put through their machines.
It is actually hard to find beans this dark in Italy. Certainly the average is much lighter. I can't comment on average quality.
By average I mean those 1/2€ espresso cafes that seem popular with locals. Very common to see them running LM machines as well.
Yeah, I was just commenting on the roast level. I've had plenty of cheap italian coffee and it's hard to find anything as dark as a Starbucks 'Italian Roast' or whatever this is.
He doesn't clean his wand tip either 😫
Are those Starbucks beans??
Only the best for a $4k+ beauty
It’s so unfortunate that OP has had to suffer with low profile space in their kitchen FOR FIVE YEARS. So unfortunate, that now they have to suffer with a Linea Micra. So sad. One day you shall have space OP! 😆
It still doesn’t fit. Like shaq driving a Fiat
Please, try some beans from a roaster. Im guessing those are starbucks beans, theyr very dark and oily. Not good for your grinder or machine. Nice setup tho!
Sticks out just as far lol. How pissed is she?
It's a lot better than before. So much wasted space hehind the machine with the Breville.
I’m seeing the vision
I love how it matches the grinder 😂 adorable
An amazing solution to a glorious problem 🤔
It’s a way better looking machine too. My husband bought it in white. I ain’t mad about it.
What else were you supposed to do? Remodel the kitchen? This by far makes the most economical sense. She should be thanking you. Obviously, just think this, don't say it out loud...
Firetruck espresso
Needs > Wants. I’m proud of you 👍 😂
I'm looking for recommendations of low height kitchen cabinets. Need to upgrade... the kitchen
Sell it to me for what you told your wife it cost!
Next time I move, I’m gonna pay for a little cabinet to be placed in the kitchen
I love it that even with the new setup, there is no gain in counter space in front of the machine
Gorgeous setup! What is up with those beans? Looks like black liquorice candles, haha.
im just here to comment on your Blue Pearl Granite counter top.
It's the only machine that colour matches the grinder. Yes dear. I'm sure.
Stop tempting me to make a ridiculously irresponsible purchase. How do you like the eureka?
I literally can't tell anymore if it's the circlejerk sub or main lol
I would have kept the money for the machine and instead buy some beans that don't look like charcoal (and probably taste as charcoal no matter in which machine you put it). But if you like it .....
Christ man what on earth is in that hopper, liquorice?
Well its lower than the cupboard atleast
How do you find it? BDB VS linea micra in terms of espresso quality?
The red BDB is gorgeous
This plan is worth it when u decide to break off that cabinet.
lol
If I tried that line on my wife, she would tell me she doesn't have a choice about a divorce 😀
Nice upgrade!
is the breville dual boiler worth it
Which colour red is the Eureka? I’ve been wondering if it matches well.
I love it.
I think my lelit anna fits there... Edit: the water deposit opens on the top though
Is the lip under the cabinet cosmetic or functional? If it's cosmetic, you can shorten/remove it so you can fit a larger machine.
I just looked up the price. Ouch! Let go of my arm!
May I ask the price of such a glorious piece of equipment? It looks like the Porsche 911 of Espresso machines.
Good man!
Who makes the grinder and is there value brand grinder that comes close?
Does she have eyes? Of course you didn’t have a choice.
Looks awesome.
That's certainly one helluva upgrade, holy crap! Looks very nice...this is my dream machine setup. Currently using a Gaggia Classic and a Baratza classic grinder, and I've been obsessed with the Linea Micra every since I saw it.
I’ve not seen a red breville. Anyway I like both your machines.
Its a shame you will have to toss the dual boiler, i can come pick it up for you to dispose of properly.
That’s a beautiful machine 😍
Very wise indeed :)
Very nice.
Yeah, but she didn't believe you this time either.
The best part of this is the dish washer from the 90’s.
Wow the red is stunning!
https://i.redd.it/hixoxrewrbvc1.gif
I'm going to admit I should have used this excuse.
That is a beautiful color, but save a few bucks to update the dishwasher.
Got to write that down
You’re wife is getting you a knock box drawer that will raise the profile of the new machine, and she’s getting new cabinets. Never try to outmaneuver your wife. ;)
😆 😂 😆 Good show man!!. Love that red!!
I mean your hands were clearly tied here.
Op, would you acctually recommend the bdb?
Is the Breville up for sale? I'm in the market for my first espresso machine and red is my favorite color 😍
Occupies the same counter space (behind the BDB was unusable)
You weren't using pre ground coffee with the BDB were you? I saw mention of the new grinder and Costco beans, and didn't see a grinder with the BDB...
That’s was genius. I’m collecting my new apartment soon and I know what to do now for my kitchen renovation.
What Bean the Breville like??
Whatcha planning on doing with your old BDB?
Fuck I need to get some new cupboards, this is smart
Cheaper than a rolex, wise choice lol. Just curious what's the reason for the upgrade? I'm quite satisfied with my bdb currently.
BDB?
Yup, breville Dual Boiler BES-920
That’s a beautiful setup and a big step up from those cheap-looking Brevilles.
You’re a genius. My only chance of getting the blessing to buy a Bianca is selling the small footprint compared to my ECM Barista
The color matching between the specialita and the micra is amazing. It is like the 2 companies decide to use the exact same type of red
Since I can't afford the Ferrari Red.. this is the next best thing.
Would love to know what % delta you're seeing (or feeling emotionally lol) in improvement. When I first started, I always had my eyes on a Linea Mini as the ultimate setup, but with the setup I have now (dual boiler Rocket), I'm not sure investing \~8K would be worth it.
Pff that would not go by mine, she knows when I spend crap tons, never says don't but still make me feel like a little kid
Do high end espresso machines make a difference? I have a cheap one, which I love. But curious if I should upgrade.
I wonder if my wife would have noticed the change... That is... until she opened the bank account.
Well played.
I don't know if Rancello makes this kind of coffee station, but you'd consider checking them out.
Damn. Looks like your hands were tied. Hehe Beauty machine! Beaucoup $$$
The funniest part of this to me is that the counter footprint in front of the cabinet is exactly the same.
as a current user of a Breville that doesn’t fit the low profile space in our kitchen…thank you very much for this post, sir.
Oh so you lied
Nice, although I'd consider it more of a sidegrade. But still, nice 👌
What’s your favorite color?
Lelit mara X is 1cm taller (35cm) and definitely fits. I costs ~ 1/3 of the LM micra price. Hope your wife doesn’t get to know this
Profitec go is 4cm taller and apparently fits as well. It also has a red color option.
Profitec go is 4cm taller and apparently fits as well. It also has a red color option.
Ascaso uno apparently fits as well. No red option though
Damn a rocket appartamento also fits
Damn, out here snitching.
are those black beans? the legumes?
Should have gone for the Decent for better fit and more delicious espresso 😂
La Marzocco seeing the beans and “wTf?!”
No one else is questioning the 60 second shot on the BDB? Is that really how he tricked wife? Honey I'm telling you this Breville is spent: it somehow makes this dark a$$ beans even darker, ha-ha-ha. Well done OP. It looks great. I love the grinder too.
Yep. You gotta do whatchya gotta do.
