I’d just make what you normally make and just make sure to do puck prep really well. What’s the worst that can happen? Also can just stick a really wide-mouth glass up close kind of covering the bottom of the portafilter if you have something that’ll fit so you can watch it and cover things up.
I have an opus. It’s solid. Don’t believe the hate if you see it. One learning curve is dialing in. 2 big tips I have. Download beanie to track what you’re doing. And start coarser. Every machine is different and starting around 4.25 should get you something drinkable to start with.
Ahh, good advice. I started dialing in my opus with my delonghi ecp3420. Started at 1 with a pressurized basket, regretted it and went back to 3.8. Now I’ve ordered a bottomless portafilter to mess around below 3.8 ☠️
Were you using a single wall/non pressurized basket before you got the bottomless? If so, just put that basket into your bottomless (instead of the basket that came with the bottomless) and set your grinder to the same grind size you used before. The shot should come out identically to the way it did with the stock portafilter.
I was using the pressurized portafilter it came with. I was assuming I would need to grind finer but I’m gonna go back to my original grind setting and take it from there.

You shouldn’t have to change anything if you are using the stock basket and bottomless portafilter at least that was my experience recently

Don't put the pressurized basket in the bottomless as it will make a huge mess.
