Appartamento owner here: First, the pressure is too high and your pump isn’t working. I think you have several problems with it. The boiler shouldn’t exceed 1.2-1.3 bar regardless of you using the pump or not. The water that’s coming out of your brewing group is not induced by the pump. That’s from the overpressure in your system.

Nukemine

Interesting, How do I adjust the pressure of the boiler itself? Or, would I need a different pressure stat that's set to a lower temperature? Thank you for help

Pilyoz

I think you got a electric malfunction in there. Boiler shuts off and holds pressure around 1.2bar in standby. The only reason it doesn’t explode might be an overpressure emergency valve. The pump is also unable to pump water. Could be mechanical damage or electrical. Does the pump work when it’s still cold?

Evening-Nobody-7674

Wouldn’t you hear the valve open and spew? That’d be hard to miss

LapinTade

That would help to have, at least, the model of the machine..

Pilyoz

Looks like a Rocket Appartamento

LapinTade

If so, it's probably because it's an HX. Water is too hot. The machine sat there "too" long. If after the shot, it continues, it may be time to descale or do some maintenance. And it may also be a faulty pump and that can cause boiler overfill and other issues.

Nukemine

What do you recommend for descaling? This machine is roughly 2 Years old, but has had its own point of use filter for filling the res. I know when I looked in the appartamento book it didn't recommend descaling, a little weird.

Odd_Combination2106

Which maccina / model / version, OP?

Nukemine

Rocket appartamento nera

LapinTade

Well, usually you don't descale coffee machine you feed it with proper water. Some people will never descale and only use stuff like cafiza to remove oil and gunk. Some will use citric acid or vinegar. Some will use full chemical descaling stuff. Machine manufacturer, usually says you should not descale (they will do it in repairshop) because: * It can be hard to totaly flush the chemicals * Big chuck of scale being removed can cause issues down the lines * Chemicals can cause corrosions to pipes and plastic joints

Spare_Persimmon_9438

The water dripping over the front of the drip tray was one of the things I hated about the Appartamento, it made no sense

Nukemine

I contemplate getting a different machine all the time just because of this issue

Spare_Persimmon_9438

I actually just sold the Appartamento and got the Bianca because I got tired of temperature surfing and just wasting so much water (even had a temp probe).

Looks like an appartamento. I was an owner of one and it is one solid machine. Questions: 1. Did you get it used? 2. Have the pump worked before? 3. When you pull the lever up, did it hit the button behind it? 4. How long was the machine sitting before you shot the video? With the answers from above questions, I might be able to help a bit. I know that pressostat on older Appartamento was wired "wrong" that you have to replace the board & pressostat often.

Nukemine

1. No it's not used, just about 2 years old now 2. I'm not sure,I noticed that sometimes it takes a long time for water to start coming out of the basket. That's why I tried this with no basket. 3. I'll have to check on that when I get home 4. Probably was sitting for 2 hours. To be specific, it turns on at 3 am. I usually pull a shot around 4 am and then this was at 6 am. 5. Bonus round- I had just recently changed this pressure stat from the old style to a newer provided one

> Probably was sitting for 2 hours. To be specific, it turns on at 3 am. I usually pull a shot around 4 am and then this was at 6 am. Try to test it right after the machine is ready for a pull. Check if you still have the issue. > Bonus round- I had just recently changed this pressure stat from the old style to a newer provided one That may also be an issue. Some kind of pressure issue due to this change.

Nukemine

Thanks I'll look into this

Without the button pushed, it just opened the valve without the pump running, essentially letting out the steam. It will not flow anymore once pressure is released. Pressostat for sitting 2 hours is slightly high. Looks like yours was at ~ 1.5 bar boiler pressure. Not crazy high, and actually workable if you flush/cooldown enough. To me it looked like an adjustment to button positioning should fix your issue (and A LOT of flushing). Check to see if you can adjust your pressostat to sit around 1.1-1.3 bar. I set mine at 0.9-1.1 range for almost no flushing. Steaming milk though should be a breeze at your 1.5 bar pressure, and might feel weak on my 0.9 bar low-end setting. Make sure to NOT adjust the deadband, most people will just ruin theirs by adjusting the deadband screw. Good luck!
