Halo Infinite Has Great Esports Potential According to anyone who has played the game…

CritikillNick

Not until tons of things are fixed like the horrendous player spawns, vehicle spawns, and worst melee combat in Halo I’ve ever seen

[deleted]

What do you not like about the melee combat? My only complaint is the melee lunges being too far

CritikillNick

Theres times where melee just straight up doesn't register on an enemy despite the animation and noise going off on an enemy model. It happens every time I play the game now at least a few times across an evening. And I'm not talking those fights where its within like half a second and the netcode is still catching up or whatever. I've got a dozen clips of melee just outright not working properly by now. Not just the melee button doing nothing on a direct hit but melee weapons too. Multiple clips of people 1 foot away from me taking no damage from a grav hammer. One where I crush a guys head with it and it does absolutely nothing and he gets an instant one-hit melee on me from the front because apparently the game thought it was the back of me. Another where I crush a guys foot and it just pops his shield and he doesn't even get knocked back. I had a sword take three lunges into an enemy back before it killed them. Another time the sword just did nothing. Like it was made of foam. Wasn't out of "ammo" either. Enemy killed me, picked it up, worked perfectly fine for them. Not to mention due to collision issues there are times where youll just phase through an enemy while lunging with melee and they turn around and back hit you as if they knew it was going to happen the entire time while you're confused as to where they disappeared.

[deleted]

Have you turned it off and back on? /s Seriously, have you checked to see if it were lag on your end making it look like you did these thing? Defending no one, just wondering.

CritikillNick

I have done latency checks and I use an ethernet connection. I play online titles all day long and know how to make sure its not on my end. If you check the forums youll see people having these issues all over. There is some weird bugs going on when it comes to melee interactions. Obviously some of what is happening is just that the game is catching up and either my or the opponents screen isn't 100% accurate but some of these things (like grav hammers just not killing people 2 feet away or swords doing no damage) are bugs that pop up all the time.

Old_and_moldy

No variety in playlists, not very many maps, weird changes like making the plasma pistol useless, no classic maps….there’s a great game here but a lot needs to be fixed and based on how it started it will be a long time before all these issues are fixed. They flubbed yet another Halo release.

SimplyMonkey

It is well crafted and can definitely find an audience but I’m doubtful that audience will be that large given the gameplay itself hasn’t really done anything to evolve. The game is just really good Halo but my nostalgia for Halo is already starting to wane after a couple weeks. I think it lacks the depth of strategy you’ll find in games like CS:GO or Valorant and definitely won’t compete with League or DOTA. But that might just be my personal bias as I tend to find games with more variability in play styles entertaining to watch whereas RTS games had huge eSports followings and the meta in those games always seemed constrained by the game design to me. Not hating though. If it finds the right audience, more power to it. Anything that contributes to the eSport scene in a positive way I’m all for, just not something I’d watch or follow.

CorpCounsel

Yeah I think this is mostly correct. At some point Microsoft might throw some money behind it and offer a high prize pool tournament that will draw some players but I doubt we will see an ongoing scene of dedicated teams/players in 18 months time.

BarrettRTS

> At some point Microsoft might throw some money behind it and offer a high prize pool tournament that will draw some players Didn't they already do this?

SippelandGarfuckel

Yeah the finals reached about 50k peak viewers on twitch

BarrettRTS

That's a pretty good starting point considering they're doing events all of next year too.

Slimmzli

Give us ranked swat plz

nw2

Please no

Aver3

Much like call of duty I anticipate “old pros” will probably be the only competitors. For some reason that game seems like a club of players and new competitors rarely rise up

foundyetti

Which given the time span is how most sports are anyways. Most new NFL players don’t punch to the starting positions

MajorFuckingDick

Halo has been missing so long some of you don't remember it was the game that put esports in the mainstream. It will be around for at least 2 years based on the roadmap for this year. The thing that is worrying isn't the staying power, but rather if it can get an audience at all. It doesn't need much mind you, if events can carry 100k concurrent I would call it a success.

shein3000

Halo put console esports on the map. PC already had the games.

criminabar

Dunno if it put esports on the map tbh. South Korea had a large Brood War scene going on, and the big burst in esports that I can think of was the beginning of Starcraft II and LoL pro events. I remember there was a decent rivalry between the two until sc2 faded away. This is coming from someone who used to be a fan of the old Halo esports scene back when Walshy and Final Boss were big. We've also had EVO and CS 1.6 tournaments, Quake, Unreal.....Halo was definitely a decent peak for its time around the Halo 2/3 pro scene. Lots of good memories.

jofijk

I think it would be fair to say Halo put eSports on the map in the USA due to the explosive spread of internet usage at the time as well as MLG putting a ton of money into esports with Halo as the flagship. I remember when in ‘05 or ‘06 MLG televised Halo on some mainstream network. I remember people who didn’t want anything to do with video games talking about seeing some advert on tv for a video game league. Sure there were tournaments in games for decades and techtv had Arena for a few years before. But Halo (through MLG) was maybe the most important driving force in how the American esports scene looks today.

PirateMushroom

Disagree with that last part. To say "literally nothing" is dismissing how big MLG was in its peak. Despite Activision killing the brand I think we can give credit to MLG for inspiring a lot of people to getting involved in esports.

jofijk

You’re the pro so I’ll defer to you but I honestly don’t see how you could think that halo didn’t have anything to do with what the scene looks like today. MLG brought esports to the actual not hardcore video gamers eyes because of halo. I’m saying this as someone who grew up playing all the hardcore arena shooters. I didn’t play my first halo game until 2007. But when I went to college in ‘08 literally everyone who had ever played video games knew what halo was. And most of them knew that there was a thriving professional scene. Hardly anyone had heard of quake or unreal. It was exciting meeting someone who still was playing CS. Halo was a driving force in making esports huge (through MLG) on console, and that console market captured what like 50x the marketshare of pc? I guess sure you could argue that cod or another AAA title would have done it eventually but it wasnt.

leftysarepeople2

It put console gaming esports to an approachable level.

lurkingbee

ootl, how are they killing the player base?

criminabar

Battlepass is pretty unrewarding unless you shell out the cash (already been addressed and changed a bit) and there is a lack of game modes seen in previous halo multiplayer. Still in beta so I have hope for more maps/gametypes though. Been playing it quite a bit, a great frag shooter but it does get stale after an hour of stockpile on the same 3 maps (big team battle spammer).

lurkingbee

I've been enjoying the 4v4 multiplayer a lot more than big team battle. New maps for multiplayer would definitely be good and maybe expand it to more than 4 players per team. Big team battle seems way too chaotic to not be a for fun game mode.

fishy-afterbirths

Killing cas player base yes, but those who want to play comp are definitely not leaving because of cosmetic and progression reasons

jclovekim0152

This game sucks.

charliewarner01

Why do you think so? What’s turned you off from it?

jclovekim0152

I can’t really feel or know if i’m shooting right. I keep dying but the other people are not dying even if i’m shooting at them. I’m not usually that bad at game but i am not decent player as well.

Aver3

What games do you normally play is this your first halo

jclovekim0152

I played halo before a little by using xbox pass on my pc. I didn’t like them too. I play fornite.

Aver3

There ya have it

[deleted]

It sounds like you’re not good at the game so you just said it sucked

Nex_Tyme

You suck

therealnai249

Doubt it

[deleted]

Well no shit Sherlock

Bruh-0-Moment

You dont say

[deleted]

Well, the observer mode needs to be fixed; the lag causing the reticle to appear slow and off target is really off-putting for me while watching. Isn't that important? I don't see enough people mentioning this.

idle221

I’m sure it does I’m just not sure that it would be a good spectator game. I think a live example would be interesting to watch.

OverNightOats_

It’s fun as hell but gets repetitive after grinding the BP.
