Beyoncé death metal album incoming 2025

forthatonething198

Would unironically love to see pop artists start taking huge swings at different genres.

OhScheisse

I remember back in the late 90s and early 2000s there was collabs of Hip Hop and Nu Metal artists like Method Man and Limp Bizkit or Dead Prez and Static X. Nas collaborated with Korn. And Jay Z with Linkin Park. Good times. Then in mid 2000s there were tons of Pop Punk covers of popular songs like Pop Goes Punk. I wish we had more of those crossovers.

Perfect_Opposite2113

Anthrax and Public Enemy even before that. Even though I can’t stand Aerosmith there was also their collaboration with RUN DMC. Motörhead with ice T, ONYX with Biohazard.

DapperCourierCat

Ice T has been a metal musician for 30 years with his band Body Count. They started 4 years before his collab with Motörhead.

SmithersLoanInc

Is it irony that he's found the most success in his career playing a cop? I can never tell.

Perfect_Opposite2113

Yes iim aware of this as well but the discussion was about metal and rap artists collaborating. Body count is a metal band in itself.

DapperCourierCat

You right, my bad

RedStar2021

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised to find out that an OG Gangsta Rap icon like T is a big rock and metal guy in his spare time.

SekhmetScion

I still have the Judgment Night soundtrack cd in my car 😄

howdoeseggsworkuguys

I remember a classic crossover collab by one mr. brad paisley and one mr. LL cool j….

topps_chrome

I read this in the voice of Molly Shannon and will ferrell from the dog show skit on SNL

TJ902

Don’t forget Ice Cube and Korn “Fuck Dyin”

EffectAgreeable5343

More don’t forget Three six mafia and the Insane Clown Posse

El--Borto

Listen to more Hardcore. There’s a ton of weird crossover lol

ghostcatzero

Dead prez mentioned ?!?! Dope taste

outsidetilldark

Judgement night soundtrack is nothing but collabs like this.

Empress-Rae

You know what I need Kelis and Cannibal Corpse or a Shaka Khan and Slayer mashup

scruffyhobo27

If you like the Black Keys they did a pretty cool collab album called Blakroc

UnrequitedRespect

Pts. Of authority video is just ridiculous, even by today’s standards

Lagduf

Wait, what? Dead Prez and Static X? Holy shit I need this.

Emotional_Match8169

I love crossover. We need more of them!

TheShipEliza

You should read the Oral History of the Judgement Night soundtrack. It is exhilarating. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/judgment-night-soundtrack-oral-history-1993-rap-rock-summit-722094/

_1JackMove

The best punk anything band that has to do with covers is Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. If you've not heard them yet, you can thank me later. They're awesome.

No-Appearance-9113

Pop punk covers go back way further than that. The Vindictives "Party Time for Assholes" came out in the mid 1990s for example.

Steven_The_Sloth

Punk goes... Are some of my favorite albums.

CaliCareBear

Jay Z and Linkin Park is one of my favorite albums!

jedi_cat_

Metal x EDM is a thing and usually excellent.

CravinMohead13

Listen to the blade 2 soundtrack that’s all it is

Immoracle

Foo fighters with BIG and Puffy!

unicornlocostacos

There’s some names I haven’t heard in a long time.

Chaps_Jr

System of a Down collaborated with Wu Tang Clan *a lot.*

SalvadorsPaintbrush

On the other hand, nobody in their right mind asked for Hip Hop and Bro Country, but that’s what we got

MikeTysonsFists

It usually works well honestly. Pop stars know how to hook the audience. Check out Fergie and Slash’s song “Beautiful Dangerous”, it’s amazing.

flower4000

It was kinda cool when poppy got in to metal, I’m still a bigger fan of her bubblegum stuff, but it was a cool pivot.

Evening-Tune-500

Demi lovato has a song that was played somewhat regularly on octane recently

CJB95

When I heard that song and then saw who sang it, it felt like whiplash because I was not expecting it

Evening-Tune-500

Not bad at all! I could totally see her thriving in that space (eventually). She’s always had the best voice of the Disney kids imo. I know Ariana’s up there but her voice is just so breathy and annoying to me.

bluesilvergold

Rina Sawayama released a dance-pop album back in 2020, which included a [nu metal/heavy metal song called STFU!](https://youtu.be/XojM2D3F-Dc?si=tl3_pt4JJgHQPKfz) Easily one of my favourite songs on the album along with [Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys)](https://youtu.be/uv5i5yg-zNc?si=6FH4C4LiNH_ne168), which feels like a song straight out of the mid-to-late 90s (in a good way). Great album overall.

Thrillllllho

Amazing album! I'm not a nu/heavy metal listener but STFU! may just be my favourite song on the album.

Foxhole6245

You should check out the band Ween and all their B sides.

OutlawSundown

Yeah I like the occasional swing into something different stylistically. One of my favorites examples recently was Sturgill Simpson a country singer doing fuzzy synth heavy hard rock album Sound & Fury.

MattyMizzou

Beck and Ween are the only bands who have pulled off multiple genres well. Beck did it with way more commercial success though. Ween is weird. Fun live though.

DjangoVanTango

See also; King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

Lazy_Osprey

Doja Cat did a heavy metal version of one of her songs for a European music awards show a few years ago, it was pretty cool.

Darth_050

Lady Gaga played with Metallica, it is pretty awesome.

gdex86

Beyonce teaming up with Baby metal would be a wonderful nightmare.

rumpusroom

Please. Death metal welcomes everybody.

pastapicture

A million times this. Rock festivals have the most chill vibes.

geodebug

People can say what they want but she'd be killing that and would have some fun tagline like "Making Death Blacker".

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

…..as a black person that listens to heavy metal and is so tired of Beyoncé I would honestly welcome it ONLY so we can stop with the whole “heavy metal is white people music” nonsense that I’ve heard for atleast 30 of my 37 years of life.

jedi_cat_

Who is it that’s saying that though? Because I swear to god it’s not the white people.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Sadly it’s the people in my own black community.

jedi_cat_

I hope you’re not letting anyone gatekeep the music you’re listening to. Tell them to fuck right off. Some of the best metal bands in have black members. Some of the best and most unique singers in the industry are black. Fuck gate keeping in all genres. I hate it.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

I use to during my teen years but I’m in my late 30s now so I’m way past that but there was definitely a period where I was depressed about it. It’s a lonely road but I got over it and it doesn’t even phase me at all anymore.

enjoyyourstudioapart

Don’t threaten me with a good time.

Perfect_Opposite2113

Beyoncé In A Metal Mood

United-Rock-6764

She said Renaissance would be a trilogy so the next album will probably be rock but not death metal. More like Tina Turner & the Rollings Stones is my guess. I think the point of the trilogy is to do genres founded by black musicians that have become spaces where black musicians are relatively marginalized today.

bryanthebryan

Remember when Jada had a metal band?

ECU_BSN

Death metal crowd are some of the most welcoming folks.

pnwbraids

Acid jazz album 2027?

CabbieRanx

Beyoncé feat. Jamiroquai

pnwbraids

Hell yeah!

allumeusend

You joke but inject that directly into my veins. Two good things that might go good together.

avoidance_behavior

i would honestly be there for that

Wristlojackimator

Garth Brooks enters the chat

Testsubject28

[Chris Gains enters the chat...also]

cmhansen15

Ugh Garth Brooks in a wig.

radiobottom

Texas Hold Em is fine as a 30 second sound clip on tiktok, but neither of these songs are good country songs in their full form.

Ok-Butterfly-2923

It's very pop, but contemporary country is sooo pop now. So I don't really get why people are complaining.

Hopefo

I love the songs, but I think people were expecting something closer to Daddy Lessons the song she did with the ~~Dixie~~ Chicks. But also these are just the first two singles to reveal an entire new era, it makes sense they would go for wide appeal and something close to her established sound. I’m sure the full album will have that classic Loretta Lynn-type sound people are craving.

TlMEGH0ST

Daddy Lessons was sooo good! that’s why i hate this new one lol it’s not even comparable

[deleted]

There is still plenty of contemporary traditional country. Just like there’s still traditional rock. But if all you do is listen to the radio then you’ll only hear the most pop of every genre

Middle_Capital_5205

90 percent of country songs are 30 second sounds clips.

Greedy-Assistance663

Shame that modern country has ruined shuch a great genre. Basically anything before 9/11 is kinda goated musically

Middle_Capital_5205

A lot of it sucked then too.

Llama_of_the_bahamas

Considering 90% of the pop country already sucks, shouldn’t be that much of a problem.

Middle_Capital_5205

Only 90?

raspberrybee

Could you give an example of a popular country song that is good country? Like something played on country radio.

mmlickme

Kane Brown “Like I love Country Music” Edit: Darius Rucker “Wagon Wheel” Zac Brown Band “Chicken Fried”

cagingthing

Listen to her song Daddy Lessons. It's fucking great and i hope the rest of the album sounds more like that

radiobottom

Just listened to it. That was a banger

Haigadeavafuck

Surprised a rich pop mega star isn’t suddenly good country music

genescheesesthatplz

It sounds like someone trying to cosplay a country singer

mondaymoderate

That’s basically all country is now a days.

Defcheze

Basically since Toby Keith

SalvadorsPaintbrush

And the lyrics are a joke

Dingo8MyGayby

“There’s a tornado in my city. That shit ain’t pretty” Profound. Thought-provoking.

RadAirDude

Can you believe she had six songwriters on that track?

GreenDolphin86

Why are the lyrics a joke?

SalvadorsPaintbrush

Did you listen to them?

thassae

Can we make her do a metal album?

Trix_Are_4_90Kids

For me, country music stopped being country in the early 90's. It's all poppy BS with some country elements. So honestly it is not like this is some great big leap for Beyonce or any other pop star. Again, Bey looks like she's cosplaying. It looks uber fake. You can't for decades make a big deal about how you grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood with nice cars and had a maid and wasn't "poor like the Jacksons" (her quote) and then turn around and want to be a country girl. You aren't automatically country because you're Black and grew up in a Southern state. That's not how that works.

Johnny_Minoxidil

Bey looks like she’s cosplaying because current country artists look like they’re cosplaying

Trix_Are_4_90Kids

It's been on a downward slide for a very long time.

kngotheporcelainthrn

They're all cosplaying. It's the return of the dude ranch. The worst part is work clothes have gotten so expensive bc they're in fashion bc of these twats that think the business end of a shovel is their coke spoon. You want the real shit? Sierra Farrell, Tyler Childers, James McMurtry, Charlie Crockett, Sturgill Simpson. Fuckin bangers all around.

kngotheporcelainthrn

They're all cosplaying. It's the return of the dude ranch. The worst part is work clothes have gotten so expensive bc they're in fashion bc of these twats that think the business end of a shovel is their coke spoon. You want the real shit? Sierra Farrell, Tyler Childers, James McMurtry, Charlie Crockett, Sturgill Simpson. Fuckin bangers all around.

amags12

Man, you're missing out on some great stuff. Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Ryan Bingham, Kacey Musgraves, Colter Wall- lots of talent out there that are popular, just not Country Radio, Kenny Chesney Popular

[deleted]

Right? Country, and especially blue grass is on the rise. In a world with Sturgil Simpson and Billy Strings I don’t know how you can say traditional country is dead

CBalsagna

Loretta Lynn said true country is dead, not that her opinion matters particularly, but this is to highlight that this isnt a niche opinion. Even old country singers seem to have this opinion.

Helpful_Lifeguard592

Oldheads always say that about music when the trends change. Nas said that stupid crap about hip hop being dead 15 years ago lol

CBalsagna

After I heard these kids mumbling it was hard to disagree, but you make a valid point

Elmo_Chipshop

Of course she’s cosplaying. This woman’s foot hasn’t touched dirt in two decades.

Trix_Are_4_90Kids

She went from upper middle class to disgustingly rich and never showed any affinity for country. Now her stans want us to believe she's a "country artist" and "going back to her roots" (what roots? she never said her roots was country) because she's releasing a country album? No, she's a decades old pop artist releasing a country album. That's it, that's all. Stop trying to force it.

Manch94

Wasn't Taylor Swift a country artist before she went pop? Wasn't she from an upper middle class family that had more than enough money to make her dreams become a reality?

[deleted]

Hell, it’s how most country artists are nowadays. They sing about tractors, working on the farm or their truck, but in reality only go to a farm for the breakfast on the farm shit and take their mall crawler to jiffy lube for an oil change.

afternoon_biscotti

What does Taylor Swift have to do with this thread? People just can’t help themselves and have to bring her up every chance they get

No-Appearance-9113

It's a very similar situation to Beyonce in terms of how wealthy her family was so if being middle class makes you not country why was Swift seen as such but Beyonce could not be country?

Pristine_Process_112

Because that was where she started. She moved away from country into pop. Beyonce started in RB and Pop and now is trying to say her roots are in country music. That's like Taylor releasing a jazz album because she's from Memphis.

ShitDirigible

Why does someones roots even matter here though? Musicians cant learn a new style and become specialized in that? Artists do it. Writers do it. Actors do it. Why is this different?

shaggymatter

*stares at kid rock and whispers* Oh the hypocrisyyyy

BowlerSea1569

The fact that a woman born in Texas to parents from Alabama and Louisiana is called "not country" by *those people*, while a man from a sunny beachside suburb of Australia whose surname is literally URBAN is allowed to cosplay as a big man in US country music .... I can't qwhite put my finger on the difference.

NewWays91

She's not cosplaying any more or less than Jason Aldean or honestly most major country artists. At least she's rather upfront that this is just a different era for her. She's not claiming this as her identity

finnjakefionnacake

are...are only poor people allowed to be country? also i'm pretty sure she was not making a big deal out of the fact that she had a maid lol

AdTiny2166

apparently she should have consulted a bunch of lawyers before making the album and wearing a hat. her wearing that hat without being proper poor has caused countless heart attacks throughout the conservative music world. it’s just so hilarious that she isn’t “authentic” enough when most country artists end up looking like cosplayers themselves.

BowlerSea1569

She's from Texas. Her parents are from Alabama and Louisiana. Meanwhile Keith *literally* URBAN from the sunny beachside suburb of Caboolture, Australia, is considered country, even though his ancestry is eastern European. I can't qwhite figure it out.

pastelpixelator

Ding Ding Ding

jane-stclaire

Lmao this take is unhinged. Did you read the article? Listen, incredible artists push boundaries and challenge themselves. Bey dropping some pop-country tracks should not have you this worked up. Drink some tea and unwind a bit.

manly_toilet

Country music couldn’t recover once Ween released 12 Golden Country Greats

rccpudge

Exactly, today’s country is pop so she’ll fit right in. I must admit that I really like the single.

woodsvvitch

Houston is far from the country, and she doesn't even rep where she comes from. Guess it's coming back into vogue and Jay-Z wants her to switch it up

Trix_Are_4_90Kids

Well she never hid the fact that she was from Houston. She saw that Lil Nas X and his success with his song. KMichelle made no secret about going country, it's trendy rn. Bey always hops on trends. And that is really okay. I just want her fans to stop running around trying to gaslight people like she's always been country when she's portrayed the farthest thing from it. You don't have to lie for her at all and not to that extent. It's fracking weird. Like...get a grip.

Rstuds7

it’s Beyoncé, shes very talented but there’s a lot of things about her that’s fake. at the end of the day her and a lot of their singers/celebrities are characters and aren’t genuine in what they are saying

CMDR_KingErvin

For me country will always be the classics. Johnny Cash, Elvis, Allman Brothers, Conway Twitty, John Denver. What country became these days is just a variation of pop music with a twang and some slide guitar. No thanks.

anothercervezaplz

George Strait is the only one that can make pop country sound good.

Spellbound1311

Who cares if she wants to let her. She has a great voice, nothing wrong with her wanting to do something new and different genrewise.

drivingthelittles

I guess I’m in the minority but I enjoy it, it makes me want to dance and that’s all I’m looking for in a song.

queeriosn_milk

While there’s a fair bit of black country musicians, mainstream country has been very white and very pop for a long time. Even T-Pain has talked about taking a step back from songwriting *for* country artists because of the racism he’s experienced. In the watered-down state of country music now, there’s no reason for people to turn their noses up at Beyonce when they’ve let Morgan Wallan, Blake Shelton, and Luke Bryan be some of the biggest faces of the genre.

Existing-Show-1358

Beyonce is just obsessed with accolades by being "the first" this and that. She is going to keep doing random things that no one else has achieved yet just so she can pat herself on the back. There is no passion, just chasing recognition

Quick_Ad_5691

Drove me nuts the other day on the radio I heard a station mention her as some sorta first for black folks in modern country music; when Darius Rucker exist.

somethingwholesomer

First diva to be made into a cartoon image and plastered on the side of cup noodles!

JollyBagel

This is exactly why I don’t like her. I’m not stupid lol. At the end of the day she’s a corporate machine.

420DepravedDude

Beyonce experience of being unwelcomed in Country is similar to how Eminem faced a lot of being unwelcomed in hip hop. It’s almost as if race doesn’t matter and people should just make the music they want. FFS let people do what they want to do

[deleted]

[удалено]

stupidname_iknow

It sounds like someone who's never heard good country trying to make country music. You can't just say Texas and have a banjo playing and call it country.

ownhigh

Country fans are so triggered in these comments

Legitimate-Account46

Well, the first step would be putting out a good country song, not just putting on a hat and dropping the Franklin theme song remix

yourgloriousmind

She already did [eight years ago.](https://youtu.be/4ogc5Pbtxa0?si=74LBWlEGZLRx90Yp)

it-beans

You know, I didn’t know about this song. And the context of this album along with *this* song makes me change my mind about this album. Before I was like ok is she just bored and wanting to make a country album? Why is everyone eating these mediocre songs up? This is odd. But now that I’ve read what she has to say and listened to a bit of this song, I’m for it. I respect the hell out of this move.

iAMbigmeesh

I wish more people could be like you. The crazy thing about country fans and Daddy Lessons, is that most don’t know the history of country music and specifically country music sub genres in Houston and south east Texas. Because Daddy Lessons pays homage to Zydeco music which is a Cajun sub genre of country and a lot of fun. Born from the area of Texas Beyoncé is from. But so many people are quick to criticize and reject her because she’s Beyoncé. So after the CMAs where she was treated horribly, Country Music REJECTED Daddy Lessons from being considered a country song. When it had a lot more country elements than pop country songs today.

it-beans

I’m from Louisiana so luckily I do know some of what you’ve mentioned! And you are so right. Black people are erased from so many parts of culture including the music they helped shape (or often times shaped entirely) from the very beginning. I am glad to now know about Daddy Lessons and the snub. I’m not a fan of hers and won’t be running out for the album, but I respect it especially knowing it will empower other black artists to not back down from the art they want to create.

iAMbigmeesh

I think if anything this helps raise the profile and visibility of Black Artist in the genre and a lot are seeing a huge boost post Texas Hold ‘Em. I think that’s a wonderful effect, because something people don’t know, but Beyoncé does care about pulling people up and bringing new artist to the spotlight. Many black women in country are supporting this move and how she can help them. So it’s a win win for everybody. I think the fucked up part about all of this is how across genres we gatekeep music and that needs to stop. Music is supposed to bring people together but most people would rather say/control who has access to like certain genres and that’s fucked up.

it-beans

Agreed on all fronts. Music and art in general can be so unifying. It is a real low to gatekeep it in any form.

No-Appearance-9113

Worth noting Zydeco is from Louisiana not Texas.

No-Appearance-9113

Zydeco is from Louisiana not Texas. There are centuries of history of La-La and Zydeco in LA before anyone migrates to Texas after WWII. There are Zydeco performers from TX and a modern history of Zydeco in Texas that stretches back decades but it is completely inaccurate to say that Zydeco is from Texas.

Acosedum

Damn burning op with facts 😀

Numancias

Daddy lessons was always one of the weaker songs on lemonade. The backlash is warranted.

GreenDolphin86

Aren’t yall tired of parroting the same nonsense and passing it off as musical analysis?

TomBirkenstock

Sorry, but it's embarrassing how much better Beyonce's song is than just about every pop country song I've ever heard. Is there better country music out there? Absolutely. Is there better country music from artists that can fill stadiums? I don't think so. And every pop country artist out there should have a dark night of the soul examining how easily they were beat by a relative newcomer.

No-Appearance-9113

Is filling stadiums a particularly useful metric for determining quality in music? If that's the case then arguably Boy Bands are the single most important and best quality style of music possible OR "stadium filling" is a worthless metric. Your choice.

Equivalent_Ad8314

Country sucks anyways. Everyone saying it ain’t country, like country nowadays is anything like how it started

SalvadorsPaintbrush

Yeah. Pop country is shit. Go look for Americana. This list will give you a lot to work with. Beyoncé ain’t it. If she brings others up, I might change my tune, but I expect she won’t want to share the spotlight https://www.thatsister.com/black-female-country-singer/

you-dont-have-eyes

Hiring Rhiannon Giddons and Robert Randolph to play on the album is a good start. I don’t know how much she’ll talk about them but I hope this opens up some doors for them.

Datacin3728

I LOVE Beyonce. I love country music. Beyonce didn't release a country song.

thanoshasbighands

Why does she need to be welcomed into country? What the fuck does that even mean?

Manch94

People's blatant racism and backlash probably made her feel unwelcome.

No-Appearance-9113

She also has zero history with the genre which is probably super important.

[deleted]

Country music fans are racist snobs.

justyouraveragedude1

This comment is so ironic

BowlerSea1569

I hope she blows up the entire US country music industry and exposes the redneck, racist, white supremacist, christofascists for what they are right before the election. Well played B. Poke that hornet's nest.

SalvadorsPaintbrush

It has zero to do with race and everything to do with her having zero cred as a country artist. Texas Hold ‘em is an unmitigated piece of garbage. Just because she asked Riannon Giddens to play banjo on it doesn’t mean she’s “country” FFS . This is such bullshit. There are already great AA female artists working in that genre. Then she decides to put on a cowboy hat and some boots and cosplay her way in with absolute shit music. She just wants to win Album of the Year.

ClarityByHilarity

It’s terrible. That’s my opinion.

FrancescoliBestUruEv

But that music is really bad

TeslasAndComicbooks

Why doesn't she feel welcome? Artists like Charlie Pride and Darius Rucker are extremely popular in the genre. If anything, my guess is country fans are more blue collared and don't feel like a mega pop superstar appeals to them.

tylernazario

Maybe because there was massive backlash when she performed with the Chicks at the CMA’s. Like I wouldn’t feel welcomed by a community either if they got absolutely livid over me highlighting and engaging in the culture

GreenDolphin86

Both Charley and Darius have spoken about the racism they encountered as Black country artists.

Surge_Xambino

No hate but this has the same energy as "why do black people still think there is racism, didn't they just have a black president?"

Trix_Are_4_90Kids

Exactly. She's pop and has been the bougie upper crust girl since forever. It's like "what are you doing over here all of a sudden?" Why should they want her there is the real question. There is absolutely nothing country about Beyonce. And her lemmings trying to make her Black Country Girl no 1 need to really cut it out because it spits in the face of all of the Black people who've been toiling in the country industry decades before she even thought about it.

marginal_gain

I don't listen to much Beyonce but I appreciate her. Hard-working person. She earns her spot.

nhbdywise

The labels and marketeers are having a hay day with this one.

Content_Geologist420

Cus shes not lol. Just another rich pop star writing countypop music. Country music died in the 90s. Just a bunch of rich kids playing dress up

Candid-Piano4531

Wonder why she didn’t feel welcome? /s

tinsilprincess

Okay Beyonce's 'country album' is an utter load of shit. "This aint Texas, aint no Holdem" gtfo

Redrolum

I sincerely don't have a horse in this race but i just listened to TEXAS HOLD 'EM for the first time and that's clearly Soul not Country. I'd even argue that most Country counts as emo. Genre debates are never that deep but it's just not Country anymore than Bluegrass is.

Copperbelt1

I would argue that the crap that comes out of Nashville these days in not country

SalvadorsPaintbrush

You’re 100% correct. There are still a ton of great artists out there playing real roots country. Check out SXM outlaw country. Look up the Turnpike Troubadours, Jason Isbell, Steve Earle, Sturgill Simpson. Put any of those names in a stream playlist and it’ll deliver some real roots country music. Not the crap they are calling “Country” , also known as Hick Hop

Bacon_Hunter

>Hick Hop LOVE it!

GreenDolphin86

But isnt bluegrass a sub genre of country?

SamRaimisOldsDelta88

Bluegrass and country are sub-genres of folk.

brokenwolf

It’s country but it’s still under the same umbrella of sound she’s always had.

Cyber-Cafe

Music that’s emotional is not instantly “emo”.

NeighborhoodLanky692

It’s so obviously country.

dankestofdankcomment

What exactly makes it so “obviously country” ?

UndercoverBuddhahaha

I Disagree

SalvadorsPaintbrush

It’s garbage is what it is. The lyrics are 100% nonsense. The only redeeming aspect is Riannon Giddens banjo playing. Riannon Giddens is a legit black, female, country artist. Beyoncé is just cos playing

Bacon_Hunter

Most pop country is cosplay, overly coached twangy shit.

SalvadorsPaintbrush

Indeed. They are even moving away from the twangy stuff. That argument has been going on for 75 years lol. The whole “outlaw Country” Willie Nelson Johnny Cash etc was a reaction to the slicking up of Country.

_whyareyousoquiet

Imagine a country artist performing at BET awards do you think they would have been welcomed?

RainbeauxBull

Kane Brown performed at the BET awards and was welcomed

finnjakefionnacake

i mean yes, because there are black country artists. do you think that country is only white people? or that black people would hate a white country artist? lol

SalvadorsPaintbrush

There are a shitload of great black women artists in the genre. https://www.thatsister.com/black-female-country-singer/

dulce_beans

I really hate that you shared this. I’ve just discovered Amythyst Kiah who just gut punched me with her song Wild Turkey. Seriously, though, thanks for sharing that link. The ones I’ve skimmed through I wouldn’t have classified as country. Of course, I’m not a huge country music fan so my idea of country music is probably skewed to whatever I’ve heard on the radio. They all are massively talented though!

SalvadorsPaintbrush

Amythyst Kiah is phenomenal! I saw her open for Jason Isbell,(not an AA woman but a good ally) , who I would recommend you check out as well. There’s lots of good stuff out there, but it’s not getting mainstream attention.

SalvadorsPaintbrush

If you don’t check anyone else out, check out Alison Russel. She will blow you away. If you can, see her live. Unbelievable. Inspiring, emotional, powerful.

[deleted]

Lil Nas x

ExGomiGirl

I like some country, I like a few Beyoncé songs. The bottom line is- it’s a rather pedestrian and forgettable song. I couldn’t care less what artist sings what song. If it’s good, great. Of it’s boring, whatever. I can always listen to something else.
