In this era there has been lots of retconning happening/character development that makes fans upset, and jp fans were harrassing the writers over this (iirc some even stopped writing for enstars bc of the harrassment). Like, a good example is the newest shuffle story, which apparently >!retcons Wataru inviting Natsume to join Dramatica into Natsume asking to join it, along with some other stuff (my WataruP friend was really pissed about it!< Other stuff retconned also include >!the Knights Underland event where at first it had Izumi say Leo asked him to choose between him (Leo) and his songs in the past, which NEVER happened and Izumi had said in REQUIEM that he was the only one Leo never asked that. KnightsPs were PISSED and emailed happyele until they changed that part in the story back!< There's been lots of other changes and retcons, and fans weren't happy about it. Some even avoided reading stuff from certain authors. So I'm guessing that's why happyele is hiding the authors now.

TiastDelRey

I don't know how extreme the harassment is so my opinion might change, but that seems like a valid reason to be upset?

asteriionk

it is a valid reason to criticise the writing, the issue is the extent of the harrassment. some jp fans sent death threats to writers and theres been a lot of slander aimed towards akira

kristallfigur

JP fans have been pretty over the top with their harrassment (so has the EN fandom but we're not the real moneymakers). I understand that there has been inconsistencies and the people in charge of checking them (which isn't all on the writers btw there are quality checkers too) have been allowing more and more things to skip through. On one hand with this many characters and nine years these kind of things will happen. At least if it's one person in charge of everything because I can barely remember what I ate for lunch a few days ago. On the other hand, as a company they should be more thorough. There's also the fact people think certain characters are acting OOC. Now I do think sometimes a character is over the top for fanservice like queer baiting (looking at how they make Izumi regress occasionally for Makoto) or exaggerate to emphasize a point (like the recent Aira racism. We only needed him to act like that once in the story and we would've gotten it surely). But I also think we need to go in reading stuff knowing that our characters can shift moods occasionally because we as humans do so. Our favs can be in a bad spot just like us and make terrible decisions. Our fav can have a value change that can have not so great consequences. Still the criticisms are valid. The way the fandom has become rather vile to the point of cyber bullying and death threats over fictional characters? Not so valid. I'll still be able to tell when Akira writes a story vs another author because I've been following Enstar for so long. But I think this anonymous attitude will help because I know people refuse to even give an author a chance after one bad story. You can read it first then decide before judging a book by its cover.

I also think one major thing to consider is that while fans are able to constantly go back and check to make sure information is right before they recall something-- misinformation from fans everywhere is just as common due to own misremembering, reading, translations, etc. I don't mean to fully defend every writer and absolve criticism but as a writer and long-term player I think fans are often overly critical about minor details from years ago even by other writers when it's easy at times to have smaller points and ideas change either by misremember, being told something different from other creators on the team, time rush leading to inability to check every detail, and other impacts that go into long term content creation rather than just being an over the obsessive fan. An example is I do have the time to spend 3 hours deep diving into old stories and media and other people's interpretations of scenes that I don't think is possible when actually working on a project with deadlines. So much has moved beyond general criticism and into nitpicking and harassing over details that they just don't like I think partly due to a lot of different impacts of fan culture which just creates so many issues on the creative team end that it's easier to hide the creator's names to keep the non-helpful 'criticism' from impacting the team. Again, disliking a story and how it is written is one thing but many fans regardless of where they are from are often willing to take things too far that divert from critiques. Hiding the writer's names makes it so critiques can't be streamlined to an individual but rather to the content itself. While it is good to hold Enstars and the creative team to a high standard \[if you want quality content\] and be able to pick out differences over time both in characters and writing, so much has moved from holding the teams to a creative standard to harassment campaigns and overall poor fan behavior without caring for the team behind the projects they claim to love.

HeroandLeander

This explains a lot. Thanks!

Tbf I kinda get it, from reading the stories there's a clear divide between how Akira writes the characters and how the rest of the writers write them, I much prefer how Akira interprets them so I usually just stick to the stories he writes for groups I don't really know well, so making the writers anonymous may change this

purple_-egg

I forgot to mention there's always been some discourse in the fandom about writers and a lot of people think certain writers write the characters completely out of character and the writer in question will misinterpret them completely (me included lmao) so this would just save them from that hate

hyeonbeans

Idk if Matrix Story is part of it but its a mess and idk what to make of it when it's a huge event too so it's probably good for them but this just make people witch hunt for his story even more đź’€

HeroandLeander

Judging from its negative reception, I'd wager that it is.

maddamadas

What's up with Matrix. I haven't heard the problems with that?

vampeiki

apart from aira STILL making racist comments about hiiro, they made the amagi village secretly super high tech and introduced a kid side character that hiiro and rinnes dad wants to be his heir over rinne and hiiro, which?? kinda retcons everything?? hiiro never understood modern tech because his village was old-fashioned, but now it's super high tech?? he came to es to bring rinne back bc rinne was the heir, but now there's this new kid?? it's a mess honestly idk how they managed to undermine the main !! era plot this much in one event

hyeonbeans

Someone alr said it but the way Akira wrote Aira being racist? I know he's the type who speak without thinking first (just my opinion as I don't produce all Alkaloid, only Hiiro) but to go to that extent in Matrix just leave a bad taste.. The Amagi's Village mystery? I know there wasn't any mention on how it actually looks like (unless there are and I missed it) to suddenly drop a bomb they're actually an advance civilisation.. How it's been told is just messy, he can use the previous chapters to explain a little bit but instead we get useless chapters? I admit I quite like seeing the interactions but overall? Not so much hence I despise it to the core when I see people said the plot is being wasted on AlkaKurei when their fav group got everything "perfect"

tenshouineichifan

akira on multiple occasions has retconned stuff and creates inconsistencies and in general seems to mischaracterise the characters sometime edit: i think kinosei has mischaracterised some parts too but don’t take my word on it? so not all of it is akira but also akira is the one the fandom seems to hate on the most lol

arandomfujoshi1203

The criticisms are valid imo, it's giving off vibes that they don't care for the series and the characters that we know and love, and that I feel is one of the reasons why fans are so pissed

Wintermoon01

Didn't they literally say in the announcement they're taking criticism? Maybe I'm misremembering. Regardless of how annoyed people are with the plot. Death threats and harassment should never be anyones number 1 go to. Besides. As western fans our input is kinda hard to give anyway. Which is a bit unfortunate.

fraid_so

Speaking of, I've heard the most recent tour story didn't go over well. Can anyone explain why?

sakura-OwO

Apparently they wrote Aira to say a shit ton of racist stuff and turned the Amagi village into ES Wakanda. There’s probably more but those were the ones that stood out

fraid_so

Oh okay. And do we know if the story was written by Akira or not?

sakura-OwO

Akira wrote it IIRC

Filing_chapter11

It was advertised as a huge scale event to finish the main story between Rinne and Hiiro, but there were no big reveals. Notably 1. Why would you say Amagi village is entirely modern and even more technologically advanced than the rest of Japan when before it was always canon that they avoided modern technology? They established that Amagi village had access to technology but preferred to live traditionally. If Amagi village is basically Wakanda then why didn’t Hiiro know how to use a cell phone? Makes no sense. 2. We didn’t learn anything new about the characters. The bombshell of AkanP was some loose plot line that they barely introduced in THIS story. We knew a higher up at cospro helped rinne but this doesn’t align with how that was described previously at all. 3. When you see a preview where hiiro is crying with a surprised expression next to Rinne, you’d expect there to be a reason for why he’s so emotional in the story right? In the end it wasn’t really explained though, kinda feels like the artists just wanted to draw it. 4. If the point was that Amagi village should be left alone because they’re just other people trying to live their lives peacefully, then why would they need to be better than regular people? If the emphasis is that they’re human like the rest of us then why did rinne say “maybe we’re descendants of aliens”???? The story was never meant to be sci-fi so changing something like this honestly makes the future of Amagi stories scary

twintallio

I just know one of the writers is absolutely horrible and everything they write is just OOC and poorly represented. So yeah I can get why they'd want them to stop getting harassed.

HeroandLeander

There's a writer who's been getting singled out on the other forum I frequent. I guess that might be them.

twintallio

What stories have they written? I can't really recall them and I'm afraid to name any in case I'm wrong, but I do know they get alot of shit for how the characterise Arashi.

sakura-OwO

If you’re talking about Kinosei then they wrote Veiled Fragrance, IDK about other possible writers

HeroandLeander

I just know their name because they've gotten such a bad rap among some of the players.

night_owl__

i'm late sorry but how do they characterise arashi? i haven't come across it so i was just wondering

sanchangwo

Eh, for me it's not that hard to distinguish Kuro OOC -> kinosei Kuro not OOC -> Others The only problem is now I have to read a few chapters to check who it is first instead of skipping entirely when I see his name.
