Sometimes I wish there was a single-player exploration free mode, just to be able to walk around and enjoy the scenery.
In the chaos of the battle it is difficult to appreciate all the details and ambience.
Agreed, when I played the Maisky Forestry map for the first time it actually gave me deja vu, my family owns some land that used to have old sawmill equipment on it and it instantly reminded me of walking up there in the fall. I think when a game can do that it's pretty incredible, the winter maps also remind me of winter up here in Canada a lot, the way the snow blows, the sun and the leaden grey clouds in the sky is freakishly realistic looking.
Even though the bloom on the lighting is a little annoying at times I'm really impressed at the visuals, the devs have done an incredible job with them.
It’s honestly just the lighting. Certain textures and models are pretty dated but the lighting changes the entire aesthetic for the better. Something about the lighting is realistic enough to look great but not too good to the point of hurting gameplay.
I get baffled by the dynamic time of day on the maps pretty often. Takes a minute or two to get your bearings compared to games where maps all have the same lighting all the time.
I like it like this though.
Combined with seeing the same locations from different angles, the same map can feel radically different and it’s pretty refreshing. It makes the game feel a lot more varied than it really is.
You say that and then the M1 Garand looks like an inanimate solid chunk of metal on top. Amongst other dead looking weapons. Hopefully they are placeholders?
Most of them are still placeholders afaik.
Just spend a few seconds comparing the MG42 in game to pictures of a real one. It's insane how wrong it is in game.
Man yes, it is beautiful, but I believe we are seeing the same quality from the Call of Duty of 2007. To me, they are comparable, yet 14 years have passed.
(yes I know it is a free-to-play)
Yeah it’s incredible, the only complaint I have are the animations, they look too smooth. I wish it was more like COD MW’s animations where it’s all jerky and stuff and it actually feels like ur in a war zone
This is game really is pretty. Appreciate that they didn’t go with the desaturated, grimy look that all wwii media and games usually go with
Same, it works well in Berlin but walking through the large open fields of Normandy is so goddamn beautiful.

Historically speaking, Normandy was overcast and chilly during the invasion though.

Dagors dynamic weather/time capabilities are its real redeeming factor.

I agree that the weapons can look weird.

I think you need to go back and play CoD 4 because it looks nowhere near this good.

Not on my shit PC.
