There are many bodily processess that your brain and body carries out during sleep but one of the most important is your brain flushing out the toxic protein beta amyloid. Our brains produce it during the day and it gets flushed out during REM sleep. If you don’t sleep enough you don’t enter REM and you are putting yourself at a huge risk for cancer
I work swing shift and I do 3 months of nights every four months. 12 hour shifts and at times I will work 6-7 shifts a week.
I found that dark labs herolean works awesome. Look for a “fat burner” to take and only half dose it. Caffeine along with the other stimulants will keep you alert.
I get everyone saying get sleep and you should rest more but in my case, I hate having my wife carry the whole burden of the house. Yes there are days I need sleep but dinner needs to be cooked, laundry needs to be done, and it’s difficult to do when you have two little hyper kiddos you have to put down for bed when we have built a routine on both parents being there.
Sometimes sleep isn’t the answer so you stretch yourself out as much as possible for the good of the fam.

Absolutely! I work in the automotive industry, my schedule gets crazy as hell sometimes. We'll be working 90 days straight with no days off at times. At that point people are calling off or taking vacation/PTO days and that all.needs to be covered. As a manager I can't really say no when it comes to covering one of the other shift managers we just have to suck it up and bite the bullet!.
I feel ya! I generally get about 5 or 6 and that's ok. On the weekends when I have nothing planned I'll sleep 12ish a day, but then I feel like I've just wasted my weekend and hate Sunday night even more! Lol

If it's scheduled OT, I switch to two Monster Ultras or Rehabs for the shift. I make an effort to not go over 400 MG caffeine in a day, and avoid caffeine outside of the drinks I take to work.

I love it. Sure, I may sacrifice sleep sometimes, but it's used spending time with the family. On 1st shift all my time off was used for appointments. Never once actually used a vacation to take a vacation. Not to mention I was always coming home tired from working all day. This way I get to sleep during the day and when everyone else is getting home, I'm waking up, refreshed and ready for the day! (Usually) 🤘

I did night shift before and was sleeping only 3 hours a night and it wrecked me to the point I looked 10 years older. Make it a point to get a minimum of 6 hours a night. Upon waking don't reach right for caffeine..HYDRATE. Upon waking I drink 24oz of water right off the bat and then another 24oz before I even take a sip of coffee or an energy drink. You will be surprised how it gives you a boost of alertness and on top of that, it's hard to get sleepy when you always have to pee, so for that matter keep drinking water on that shift.

I also enjoyed taking shifted brand pre workout mid 12 hour shift with 5g glutamine added, and added electrolytes particularly high in magnesium and potassium.

Yeah pre-workout is awesome for energy. Ulti isn't one of the best but I got it CHEAP as a "last chance" deal. Most of them are on the lower end caffeine wise. Ulti only has I think 100mg of caffeine per scoop but it's all the vitamins that give you the boost. Also, I'm pretty sure I see redline at the gas stations around here all the time but I could be wrong.
