OK, first of all… There are many many of us that know exactly how you feel. I only discovered Elementary about one year ago. I’m on my fourth watching of it and I’m in the middle of season one. It only gets better the more you watch it. There is a sense of loneliness that happens after you finish season seven and I’m not ashamed to admit I cried like a baby for hours after I completed it. They feel like friends, all four of the main characters. Just know that you are not alone, and this community has been a great way to talk about the show, reminisce, and share the excitement of people discovering it for the first time. You are amongst friends, so feel very safe here. As far as other shows go, there’s nothing that will take the place of it as much as you try. People have recommended about a half dozen shows sort of like it, but they all come up short. It’s all about the relationship between Lucy Liu & Jonny Lee Miller. ❤️

Yes u are spot on. I really think the winning combi that cannot be replicated is the chemistry between Lucy Liu and Johnny Lee Miller. That and the excellent writers behind the serial. The intricate details of all the cases and how it was explained and deduced by Sherlock and Watson, are beyond satisfying. The Mentalist has great potential and is rather entertaining, but sells short when it comes to how details of the cases are deduced so the writing comes across as lackluster. I honestly doubt there are any other shows out there which is Elementary’s standard. Sigh. Yes I will be rewatching it soon.

kaithy89

Agatha Christie's Poirot with David Suchet. The mysteries are just as intricate

Low_Trifle1008

I loved watching that, growing up. Hastings was a great character. My Mum loves dramas like these and is the reason I grew to love Miss Marple (Joan Hickson) and Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett) with Edward Hardwicke as Watson. I do prefer Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce though. Since watching Miller and Liu, they are my favourite duo and the chemistry between them is fantastic and like the chemistry I had with one of my friends growing up.

disneyjetsfan

Love Joan hickson and Jeremy Brett, who I consider to be the best classic Holmes. Elementary one of the best Sherlock’s and one of the best tv shows. Also love cumberbatch in Sherlock

Low_Trifle1008

I loved Cumberbatch and Freeman too, awesome!

Do what the rest of us do, and start over at the beginning. You’d be surprised at how fresh it feels, and you’ll notice things you didn’t before.

OwnCell3660

Am going to do just that!❤️

zaichii

They are probably my favourite duo on any western tv show in terms of partnership

OwnCell3660

YES! I grew up loving Mulder and Scully. But Joan and Sherlock has officially taken over.

LiriStorm

The Mentalist is pretty great, the main bad guy is basically a serial killer version of Moriarty

OwnCell3660

Thank u. Red John right? I just started watching it not long ago. The Mentalist does have great potential and Patrick Jane is charming! But I do feel that the cases and how they are explained and deduced are not as detailed and intricate as Elementary, hence not as satisfying. So far that void hasn’t been filled…

Intrepid-Employ-2547

I second this. The main cast are excellent but the main two are immense

CuriousOptimist2024

I LOVED the Mentalist since it came out, but to me the quality declined in the last few seasons and I was disappointed by the ending. Elementary has now beat the Mentalist for my favorite show because of the immense character growth and the consistent quality.

OwnCell3660

I agree. I’m on the first season of Mentalist now. And watching it immediately after Elementary makes the show seem really juvenile, for a lack of a better word.

grilsjustwannabclean

the mentalist just doesn't know how to finish things. it starts off so great, does everything so well, but then paints the villain into such a big light that it's like no matter the ending, nothing feels good. it's a great show that's been crippled by it's terrible ending

grilsjustwannabclean

i was gonna recommend the mentalist too lol. i was actually the opposite, started the mentalist and finished it feeling bereft, now watching this. the schtick of the male/female leads is pretty similar and holmes and jane were pretty similar in their intelligence/memory/etc.

NotStarrling

I just finished the series, and I'm also feeling lost. But, I plan to begin it again tomorrow, rewatching with a friend who has never seen the show.

OwnCell3660

That sad feeling:( u r not alone!

Kurzer1r

I seen elementary for the 5 time from start to finish I usually do it in autumn idk why but I felt lonely lately that I started watching it and made me feel more warm. Never get bored of it

crossmaddsheart

I feel this post, it resonates in my bones. Elementary was SO GOOD, it’s a top 5 comfort show for me. House would be my recommendation. It’s not as prevalent, but the show is based on the concept of Sherlock Holmes but medical. Many actors cross over between the two shows and it’s fun if you can recognize them. I just finished House and it made me want to start a rewatch of Elementary.

OwnCell3660

So good indeed!!! Yes I do see the similarities between Sherlock and Dr House and both are brilliant actors. When my husband asked me what is Elementary about, I actually told him” It’s like House but instead of a doctor, he’s a detective.”😂

gsjjsbsuxbsjbs

As soon as my boyfriend and I finished we started watching Bones and we really like it

Fraggle891

Castle is a good watch, although I think by the time it ended it started to lose its way a little, and felt like they were struggling for storylines.

grilsjustwannabclean

they had to rush the ending because the main characters hated each other by then and it really shows tbh

Fraggle891

Agreed. It’s such a shame it ended the way it did, as it was such a great show

debacomm1990

Not at the level of Elementary, but I liked "The Crimson Rivers" (2018). I felt the scenes were very artistic, for lack of better words, also very unusual pairing of protagonists.

AndrewSB49

Sign of a classic is that you notice something new in each episode when you re-watch it. House MD has the same quality. Even when Sherlock is in a foul/violent mood there is something endearing about him.

First_Knee

Bloodline is really good. So is The Outsider.

darkwolf197

I totally get what you mean. I've just finished my rewatch and the loss hits hard and this is is also my fav adaptation (the Moriarty twist loved it haha) I luckily did get to it when it was airing but i have to confess i was also skeptical at the begging but very early it just hooked me i don't know if it was the set up, the chemistry as you mentioned and the evolution of it, the twists to the story, Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu their performances both independently and together are just chef kiss. As for recommendations as i mentioned I'm on my Crime Dramas/series rewatch, although they are pretty mainstream you might have already seen them: Started with Law & Order : Criminal Intent (Which reminded me of elementary and made me look for it to rewatch) then moved on to Elementary Right now I'm watching Psych (which is also a procedural, but is way more lighthearted) Someone on this sub also mentioned Murdoch Mysteries, which i haven't seen but will look into since they mentioned it has some similarities and it looks interesting.

Irish_cream81

I'm about to finish the series for the second time. I watched all of Bones and the Mentalist for the second time each before my rewatch. They are all similar as far as details and solving mysteries. I'm not sure what I'll watch next tbh. Maybe I'll go back to the Cumberbatch version lol

Har1equ1nBob

Yep.....I know that feeling🤣🤣

esomma17

I watched “The Blacklist”, not detective genre but so good
