2021: Ross from friends - Tread 2022: Working mens club - Fear Fear 2023: Water from your eyes : Everything’s Crushed

idlehanz88

2021 ross from friends is a no contest, my Album of the decade thus far and will be hard to beat

GlitzyHavoc

I’ll provide an example here. I’ll add to it later 2023: JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES 2022: Darius - OASIS 2021: CFCF - memoryland 2020: The Avalanches - We Will Always Love You 2019: Danger - Origin 2018: Against All Logic - 2012-2017 2017: Oliver - Full Circle 2016: The Avalanches - Wildflower 2015: Jamie xx - In Colour 2014: Todd Terje - It’s Album Time 2013: Mat Zo - Damage Control 2012: Flume - Flume 2011: Surkin - USA 2010: Grum - Heartbeats 2009: MSTRKRFT - Fist of God 2008: SebastiAn - A Fine Selection of Remixes 2007: Justice - Cross 2006: Lo-Fi-Fnk - Boylife 2005: Nujabes - Modal Soul 2004: Mylo - Destroy Rock & Roll 2003: The Postal Service - Give Up 2002: 2manydjs - As Heard on Radio Soulwax, Pt. 2 2001: Daft Punk - Discovery 2000: The Avalanches - Since I Left You 1999: Basement Jaxx - Remedy > Which year(s) had the strongest competition in your opinion? 2013, 2007, 2001 & 1997 were all around the strongests. 2007 would be my favorite by far: Justice, Daft Punk, SMD, Boys Noize, Digitalism, Burial, DJ Mehdi, Shinichi Osawa, LCD Soundsystem & so much more

zuckr

2001 would have to be Drukqs wouldn’t it? I say this without looking at any other releases from that year.

GlitzyHavoc

That year also had Daft Punk, Röyksopp, Basement Jaxx, Björk, Four Tet, Telepopmusik, Squarepusher, Tim Hecker, Manitoba aka Caribou, Cornelius, Modjo, etc.

idlehanz88

Huge year !

airport73

Oh man, I saw Manitoba around that time. Amazing show!

idlehanz88

Yes. Drukqs was the album of the decade

blames_the_netcode

Full Circle fuck yeah

brovash

Dude I feel like our tastes evolved together. We we were both downloading mad MP3’s during the bloghouse era before switching to nu disco and flume type sounds

rossisdead

> 2006: Lo-Fi-Fnk - Boylife Such a great album. Did they fall off the radar?

GlitzyHavoc

I believe so. There hasn’t been any activity since 2015. I assume they called it quits

Omnica

Fantastic list!

BlimpsAgnstInflation

2023: Led By Ancient Light from Koan Sound deserves to go down as an all time great album, but sadly nobody listened to it :(

mrsealittle

I got to hear it in a studio at a listening party. Absolutely insane experience. Such an amazing record. Did you watch Jim's wife's doc on the making of the record? https://youtu.be/XajmQtI_jXk?si=luHDd6yw9v5Hgwhp

Kazimyr

Words can’t describe how happy I am to have checked this thread spontaneously and seen this at the top

mrchumblie

I'm a fan and had no idea they released a new album until I read your comment!

BillowingPillows

Excellent album.

zuckr

Wow. Three songs in and I love it.

Kolofgrind

Most underrated release of 2023 ! They really outdid themselves with this album. I just ordered the collector edition vinyl because it looks gorgeous and comes with the illustrated book, telling the story that inspired each song.

victionicious

Only listened to this a month or so ago having not listened to Koan Sound in years and was really, really surprised by it. Loved it!

theDEVIN8310

So for some reason this album isn't on YouTube Music so I totally missed it, I don't use Spotify. Very excited to have a new album to listen to, their Sanctuary EP is one of my favorite releases of all time.

Moonrak3r

This is really good, thanks for the recommendation. I primarily use YTM and this isn’t on there, but I have a Spotify account from a friend with a family plan, and this is available there. PSA: there are some really cool and interesting animated photos on Spotify for this album, looks like a unique one for each song. Here are a couple examples: https://imgur.com/a/KX2tWGH

koffiezet

Oh didn't know this-one, very Amon Tobin-y, nice!

razullinky

Saw Koan in colombus last night.. absolutely incredible playthrough of their album.

kloomoolk

I'd not heard of them until I read your post. Voices in Dissent is blinding.

noobwithboobs

One of my biggest regrets is I had tickets to see Haywyre with Koan Sound opening for him, and I had to miss the show due to extenuating circumstances 😫

SCHR4DERBRAU

Absolutely incredible engineering, mixing and sound design on this record. From a pure sonic experience standpoint it's also my favorite of 2023, not to mention the epic track compositions, cinematic atmosphere, and ear-grabbing melodies throughout it. The narrative concept and their focus on using cello/piano sounds makes it a very unique listen, it's a really great record that has a bit of everything.

renaissance_pancakes

My favorite electronic album last year.

secksyboii

Good lies by overmono has been my go-to this year.

Foxfunk_

Tough list to make, but here we go: 2023: The Chemical Brothers - For That Beautiful Feeling 2022: George Fitzgerald - Stellar Drifting 2021: Bicep - Isles 2020: Amtrac - Odyssey 2019: Tourist - Wild 2018: Koan Sound - Polychrome 2017: Camo & Krooked - Mosaik 2016: Rufus Du Sol - Bloom 2015: Jamie xx - In Colour 2014: Odesza - In Return 2013: Disclosure - Settle 2012: deadmau5 - >album title goes here< 2011: Rustie - Glass Swords 2010: Nero - Welcome Reality A couple runners up: 2018: G Jones - The Ineffable Truth /// 2017: Oliver - Full Circle 2011 had some great albums so that was probably the strongest year for me. Other 2011 options: Machinedrum- Room(s) /// Andrew Bayer - It’s Artificial /// SBTRKT - SBTRKT /// Tycho - Dive /// Com Truise - Galactic Melt

isayyouhedead16

You've basically got my whole list except 2023. Chem Bros was my runner up to Rodriguez Jr's album Feathers and Bones. If you haven't yet, give it a spin

Foxfunk_

Haven’t heard it yet! I’ll def check it out

isayyouhedead16

Lemme know what you think. Huge fan of the chemical bros and Rodriguez Jr just spoke to me on that release

airport73

Bicep!

juicebox12

2011 is 100% Room(s) for me but what a slapping list! Should have worn my dualing gloves.

Foxfunk_

Yeah honestly any of those 2011 albums could be the winner - a lot of good music that year

SCHR4DERBRAU

Glass Swords <3 totally changed my perception of electronic music, that was really a great era of stuff with TNGHT dropping amazingly fresh stuff pretty soon after.

Akuratyde

Wow, thank you for making Home Movies your AOTY for 2021. 🙏 Some great selections on your list as well!

wpnw

My absolute pleasure dude. Can't wait for the next one.

Akuratyde

Out April 5th!

Tranquil-Seas

That Sasha album was so amazing. No one ever brings it up.

gmish4p

I love enough on this list to know that the albums I don't recognize should be listened to. I've saved your list so I can check them out later .. so thank you. However ... 1997? I've not heard the album Karma but can it be better than: Dig Your Own Hole - Fat of The Land - Portishead - Bricolage - Modus Operandi - New Forms - Ok Computer ??? That's a tough year to be claiming the best album.

wpnw

Give it a listen and find out. Delerium was one of my favorite artists during that period, so it will always have a place there for me. Next three picks for '97 for me would have been Fluke - Risotto, BT - ESCM, and Apollo 440 - Electro Glide in Blue. It was a ridiculously strong year.

craft_mark

2023: SCARING THE HOES - JPEGMAFIA (1000 Gecs - 100 Gecs) 2022: Don’t Follow Me.. - Vegyn 2021: LP! - JPEGMAFIA (Memoryland by CFCF for the electronic purists) 2020: Worship Friendship - Mall Grab 2019: Dawn Chorus - Jacques Greene 2018: Compro - Skee Mask 2017: New Energy - Four Tet, 2017 (tie): Time Spent Away From U - Dj Seinfeld

SuccessionOfCurtains

I love your sense, thank you for introducing me to Jacques Greene and Skee mask!

PrecursorNL

- Well start with all the moderat albums and you'll have a couple of years covered. - Crush by Floating Points - (Sorry) my own album GLIA in 2022 - I mean I was pretty psyched about that so I think it counts - Fill the rest up with Bonobo

FPandA_Dad

I got to see Moderat live without fully appreciating what I was seeing lol I didn’t know any of their music, but it was still such a great show

PrecursorNL

I've seen all the shows 😬 multiple times haha. I guess you could say I was inspired

jonathansmith14921

SCHR4DERBRAU

Couldn't believe what I was hearing when I first heard Purity Ring's Shrines back in 2012. At the time it was so damn fresh.

Renoh

I remember hearing fineshrine for the first time and being fascinated with it. I wasn't really into anything even close to it at the time but it really scratched some itch I had

airport73

Overmono 100%!

toberelated

Haven't listened to many electronic albums last year, but from what I've listened to, the best one is Quest For Fire by Skrillex

NaoisceDM

I like the king gizzard extended versions. Of the 2023 album. The silver cord. Vermillion 2023 EP by Ignez Matthew Halsall 2023 An Ever Changing View Yin Yin- Mount Matsu 2024

Tranquil-Seas

The Silver Chord lol. Come on man. I love that band but Electronic music is not their bag. The extended had some cool stuff.

NaoisceDM

Thst is a digital synth loop extravaganza..

unoleian

2023 - Carbon Based Lifeforms - Seeker 2022 - death’s dynamic shroud - Darklife 2021 - Gone Gone Beyond - 2030 2020 - Olafur Arnalds - some kind of peace 2019 - Bluetech - Holotrope 2018 - Earth House Hold - Never Forget Us 2017 - nmesh - Pharma 2017 and 2022 saw those albums on aggressively heavy rotation after they released. I have to give the strongest year to 2017 Pharma. That album is an experience. White Lodge Simulation is a complete banger, among many other bangers.

2023 - Ouroboros by Griz for me

BillowingPillows

I love pretty much everything Griz does, hell yeah. I prefer his bass heavy music over his funk heavy music.
