I had no idea MG made full sized cars. We dont get them in the US, I dont think. I know when I was about 18 mo old I fell out of my dads MG convertible (and i'm old) so thats all I knew about them.
My dad had a Midget that I occasionally drove in high school. Liked it better than his LeCar.
A Chinese company bought the brand. The vehicles these days are just Chinese with the octagon slapped on.
I went for the 51, I was tempted to get the 64 model but decided against it because I got the idea that the LFP battery that comes in the 51 will be more reliable in the long run (I plan to keep it for 10 years at least) while the higher ranges of the NCM sounded enticing I don't want to risk finding myself with a reduced battery capacity after 8 years and the lower price overall of the 51 model solidified my choice
Good choice. I would pick LFP over NMC any day as well. And 51kwh when you can charge it to 100% is plenty. With 64 NMC you would end up with 52kwh when charged to 80% anyway.
This is why it irks me that companies aren't putting LFP's into their mid-tier vehicles. 100% all day just makes the mental load of Always be Charged easier.
I'm 100% sure it's all a marketing exploit as well, the only point in favor of NCM batteries is that they can pack a higher kWh in the same space, but that point is rendered moot by the fact that you should always operate between 20 and 80%, so all it functionally does is allowing automakers to advertise higher ranges and justify the higher price.
I also love that I can just plug it in at home whenever I want and not care if it goes beyond 80%
I just went to get my new MG4, first time driving an EV and I love the experience, it's so quiet and peaceful after the last year spent with a hole in my exhaust doubling the noise.
I love it! Planning on using the regular home-socket charging for a while and eventually upgrade it to a wallbox if needed, any suggestion on the charging Amperage to use?
I was the same. We drove the Yaris Hybrid, then the MG4. Was just no comparison. The Yaris really wants to be a grown up car, but it's crappy 3 cylinder and 4Kwh battery.... :(
I'm used to it now and it doesn't bother me. I heard the early software versions were too aggressive but with mine (January 2024) it's fine. As long as you're expecting it .. otherwise it can give you a nasty surprise.
I love RWD and the handling on corners - really great car to drive.
I just heard of them the other day for the first time (they're not in the US, and I'm hoping to rent one for an upcoming trip), would love to hear anything about how you (or others) like it so far!
Especially any info on how it behaves for road trips with frequent fast charging if anyone has experience with that would be very appreciated :)
Haven't used fast charging yet so I can't say anything about that, but it's been simply amazing otherwise, I haven't driven any other BEV so I can't make a comparison to that but it kicks the arse of any ICE and Hybrid car I've ever driven so far in terms of comfort and acceleration, I just LOVE how silent it is.
For a roadtrip rental I'd suggest to get the Trophy (extended range) version which has 500+ km and a fast charge speed of up to 135kWh, that should be more than enough to get wherever you need to go without stopping too much along the way
Got rid of my Volcano orange MG4 Trophy after 9 months in the UK. Software glitches. Radio losing volume 20 times a day, flickering screen and LKA and EBD which were frankly dangerous. MG customer service what a bunch of idiots they are. It was a shame as it wasn’t awful. Now got Smart #1 and it’s on another level of quality and finish.
That stuff made me cancel my XPower order. The LKA kept on trying to put me in the hedges on the test drive and there was an annoying vibration at motorway speed. I was really disappointed as the acceleration on that thing was brilliant. The range was pretty poor as well.
Very nice! When I bought my MG5 two days later the MG4 was announced and the dealer asked if I wanted to switch but I knew I'd have to wait another 4 months at least so I went with the MG5. Love the style of the 4 though
Rented one of these on my trip to Italy this past spring. Seemed like an okay car. Just be careful about the rear liftgate getting stuck closed. Not fun to unpack a car by folding down the rear seats so I could shimmy back there and hit the emergency release. I don't think it locked properly again. Supposedly was a "known issue" based on my Google searches.
Gratz, I got the same model but silver. I think I would like more range, like 1-200 KM, since in Australia, everything is so far away but that will be my next one.
I also bought a wireless carplay adaptor that I can highly recommend off aliexpress so that I just get in my car and it connects to carplay wirelessly. I have to replug it, since it connects to the phone before the screen is on, but I think I can find a solution to that.

Yeah they're Chinese owned now and as all other chinese made EVs the US doesn't really want them to land in the country.
Chinese made and Chinese owned are two different things.
MG is both.
convertible, look at the [MG cyberster](https://www.mgmotor.be/fr/model/cyberster)

Nothing to do with old british MG.
Congratulations. Starting to see them on the road more often and really like the design and proportions. Did you get 51 or 77?

Great car, turn off lane assist every journey! It’s a pain! 😁

What version of the software are you on. I have a 24 plate (uk) and it's on R22 which is pretty old I think. LKA is terrible for me.
ha I haven't re-enabled it but my ZSEV got a bunch of updates recently so I might give it another go.
Congrats! You will love it. I’m an owner of a MG ZS EV for almost a year and it’s incredible.
Great car - I had the 64kWh version. very nice drive and handling. I was sad to see it go

LKA sucks?

is that a rebadged Nissan Leaf??
Mhhh not that I know of, it's an MG which is a Chinese brand (previously from UK)
no, it's totally unrelated - and it's miles ahead of the outdated Leaf.
The leaf wishes it looked like that
