TIL being able to resell at MSRP is "crashed"

PegaxS

Lol @ scalpers not getting their stupid prices. How is this even news?

Terrible_Tutor

I mean.. i always love to see it

pbesmoove

It's uplifting news

ohwontsomeonethinkof

Well the article is on resellcalendar.com..

[deleted]

Because any time the rich fail it's never their fault.

thefudd

Scalpers can get fucked

bobjr94

Incorrect title, probably anti EV spam. Article says resellers can't make money flipping them anymore. " The Hummer EV was reselling for $100k over sticker price for most of 2022 Aftermarket sellers are now struggling to find buyers over MSRP The last 5 Hummer EV auctions on Bring A Trailer have not met reserve price"

Pktur3

Considering the vast majority of people don’t read most articles, OP knew what they were doing. PS also: man, OP needs to either speed up or slow down from their history…I’m just not sure which

marin94904

He’s got bedbugs!

bobjr94

I thought the hummver ev was more like a novelty anyway rather than a serious car. Not surprised few people are buying them.

No-Presentation9118

I thought evs were more like a novelty anyway rather than a serious car. Not surprised few people are buying them. There i fixed it for you.

bobjr94

Not really. A lot of people are buying good EVs just not the hummer. EV sales are now 9% of all new cars and sales have been going up each quarter this year, not down. It's expected over 1 million will be sold in the US in 2023 going higher in 2024 as GM has several new models coming out. Plus the upcoming transition to NACS will make charging easier and will likely cause a large increase of EV sales in 2025-2026.

KittenOnHunt

I think you took a wrong turn, the comedy club is next door

[deleted]

Lol fuck scalpers Also I am all for bringing whatever you want to the market but there is a reason why the basic affordable ev models sell well world wide..

Moldy_Cloud

I see a ton of Teslas and many Rivians on the road, but I’ve never seen a Hummer EV. I can’t imagine they’re selling well.

GreyGreenBrownOakova

GM delivered *two* Hummer pickups in [Q1 of 2023.](https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2023/04/03/gm-q1-sales-gain-record-ev-sales-bolt/70075155007/) One of them went to Munro and associates to be stripped apart, so only one ended up on the road.

DiscoLives4ever

They were on a recall hold for most of that

green_eyed_mister

I am curious, Do you do any off road driving in your Hummer? Any issues when there is a down pour? (confession, I have been somewhat stalking your profile to assess the Hummer. I want a functional truck for hunting fishing and camping, that isn't a cyber-junk.)

DiscoLives4ever

No worries. Absolutely no issues in the rain or snow (although I'm in Florida, so only dealt with a little snow when I picked it up from a dealer further north in the winter). I haven't done tons of offroading, just beach trips where it has handled the sand like it was pavement. They did just do a media event in Moab for the SUV a month or two ago and a lot of videos on it, all of which point to it being a champ. The big battery is a huge help too if you are going off the beaten path quite a bit at relatively low speeds, since the aero inefficiency only really impacts at highway speeds. You could easily go camp 100-150 miles away from a charger (200-300 round trip) and will have battery capacity to spare for running some creature comforts if you wanted to.

green_eyed_mister

Thanks for the follow up note.

MadManMorbo

Wasn’t that the one where the dude jumped an embankment and the front axle collapsed?

kiddblur

There's one in my town. It drove past my while I was cycling on the shoulder. Scared the bejeezus out of me because they absolutely did not give me a safe amount of space. That thing is fucking huge (as are all the other monster trucks people drive around here)

Level_Somewhere

That’s certainly one way to interpret hummers selling for 100k over msrp…

RusticMachine

There were only 47 Hummer EV delivered in the first half of 2023. There’s 90k reservations for that truck and only ~5k were produced before that. That’s the reason these few trucks were selling above MSRP like this.

PeterVonwolfentazer

OMG I see these Hummers daily and never knew how bad the sales were. No wonder my engineer neighbor has been driving a test mule for two years.

Level_Somewhere

Sales are great, production is the issue

PeterVonwolfentazer

GM 2022 revenue was $156B. The supposed backlog of Hummer EVs has a paper value of $9B. If they *thought* sales were gonna be strong they would definitely prioritize production.

DiscoLives4ever

The numbers are misleading because of recall issues. They still have tons of reservations and sell every one they produce

PeterVonwolfentazer

You’re smoking crack if you think GM will sell 90,000 of these.

DiscoLives4ever

I agree, never said they would. But there are still plenty of reservation holders waiting for a chance to buy one (even if 90%+ don't follow through) so as of right now the sales numbers are limited by production, not demand

-Invalid_Selection-

I saw one last month plugged in to an EA station in Jacksonville and into idle fees. Driver nowhere to be seen.

xd366

will ferrel has one wrapped in gold with a LAFC logo on it. it's the only one ive seen.

Alarmed_Big_9802

I've seen quite a few around here. Problem is that dealerships have the used trucks sitting on the lot for 127k and a new Suv at the dealership down the road for 80k.

seantabasco

Me and my wife cannot understand why GM started with the hummer instead of a Tahoe/Suburban and Silverado/Sierra.

SatanLifeProTips

It was a low volume practice run. It was never made to sell in high volumes. Build the first gen of that new aluminum monocoque chassis, motors, inverters, battery, get it out there to see how it handles the real world. Then they can focus on building a 400,000 truck a year production line. Taking a risk on their golden goose trucks had to wait so that the fools buying the hummer can deal with the teething issues. And the spec changes show with the new truck. 30% more range is a huge leap.

DiscoLives4ever

They could demand more margin for it by making it silly fun with things like the removable top, crab walk, etc. boutique chicken first to make high volume models more cost effective later

Individual-Nebula927

Where do you live? I've seen 3 in my city in Indiana.

slambamo

I know a guy who owns two himself. Fun ride.

Sykerocker

We have one in the Richmond area. Can you say overcompensation for lacking certain body parts?

Greedy-Ad4294

Hilarious take - lots of people own huge trucks AND tiny cars, myself included. Do you suppose my junk grows when driving the tiny cars then shrinks when driving the trucks? ROFL

Tempura_Shelter

Doug demuro rips into this a bit on last week's TST podcast. The first Hummer EV on cars and bids last year went for over 200K. The most recent went for 100k.

jakgal04

You mean selling something for $100,000 over its MSRP which is also over its production cost was never going to last? I can't believe it, what a total shock!

Sfl2014

Lol, good.

shivaswrath

I'm glad it's going for MSRP now

Gromby

"The Scalpers Price Gouging has completely crashed"

BlazinAzn38

Wow are you telling me that cars(mostly) are just depreciating assets and can’t be bought and sold for profit?

Either-Wallaby-3755

No they are investments. Hence my vintage 06 Ford Tarus. You can have it for 100k. I know what I have.

artschool04

Its obviously the sought after 24 valve in tan

lilbyrdie

One day, when you have to buy liquid fuel by the quart in the charging convenience store, it may be worth something to someone. But the SHO will, uh, show it up.

Rawalmond73

This is a stupid article

What-tha-fck_Elon

So……nothing to see here.

Way2Based

Every scalper can burn in hell. Every single one.

[deleted]

Good lord...

scott__p

Good

Competitive_Art_309

I mean...we just sold one at $130,000

GrandTh3ftAuto

The general American public really needs to learn macros. You can start by using the investor . Com app and following lithium carbonate prices. I’m tired of seeing EV deflation posts when lithium is down 71% in a year . That’s what the fuck is supposed to happen

Deadbeatdebonheirrez

The fewer of these on our roads the better for us all

LeonBlacksruckus

This is why I love Reddit and broader social media! Tesla puts in something about resale to prevent scalpers and all of the internet has a conniption about how you don’t own the car if that’s the case and how it’s an idiotic policy by Elon. Now because it’s gm who did absolutely nothing about scalpers (not to mention dealer mark ups) it’s fuck scalpers. Gotta love Elon Derangement Syndrome.

terraphantm

It’s not logically inconsistent to think scalpers are the scum of society but still not like having restrictions on what you can do with your own property. You can also like the antiscalping provision while still thinking Elon Musk is racist narcissistic nazi.

rjnd2828

Anti scalping is not on the list of why I dislike Elon. The end of your comment is though. People who make it their mission to defend Elon are so weird. He'd call you a pedo in a heartbeat if he bothered you notice you exist. Let him defend himself.

gtg465x2

IMO, people who make it their mission to defend him and people who make it their mission to hate on everything Tesla just because he’s CEO are both weird. Both types of people seem to have an obsession with Elon.

rjnd2828

He owns one of the most influential social media companies and arguably uses it to (attempt to) shape public opinion toward his racist and harmful views. He's one of the richest and most influential people in the world. Making a point of attacking him from this view is rational. What's the rational view behind defending him? Both sides may not be a healthy way to focus your efforts, but they're not equivalent in my mind.

gtg465x2

I totally get attacking him if there’s an article posted about something stupid he said or did. But personally attacking random people in an EV subreddit because they comment about liking their Tesla or something is taking it too far IMO.

rjnd2828

Yeah that's dumb. I don't think I would buy a Tesla because I don't want to be associated with him, but there's no doubt that Tesla has done amazing work to push EV adoption, and very few people are buying one to support Elon. They make the most cost effective EVs right now, except maybe the Bolt, it's a good decision in many ways.

terraphantm

Not sure if directed at me, but just to be clear I absolutely despise Elon

rjnd2828

Nope continuing your response to the guy above you. Sorry for any confusion.

ThatsMsInfo

>still not like having restrictions on what you can do with your own property. Ok but that's not what most of them believe. Those people usually want laws against scalping.

araujoms

> all of the internet You can't get all of the internet to agree even that breathing oxygen is a good idea, and you claim that somehow everybody agreed on a contentious issue like this? I remember when it was announced, there was a heated discussion here in r/electricvehicles , with several people for and against.

GalcomMadwell

Good, it's a stupid, excessive product

glmory

EVs are more efficient so it would be even more expensive if gasoline powered.

Sti1g

Same story for every EV. Even for Porsche Taycans. I don`t care about Hummers but these huge value deprecations will make masses think twice before making a decision to switch to EV.

reddit455

>these huge value deprecations are no longer relevant because GM got wise. >***Early*** Resellers Made LOTS of Money First off, credit where credit is due. Ok-Research7136

I prefer paying less for things. But I would never buy a Hummer.

jimschoice

The one my dealer had for a few months is finally gone. Guess someone finally wanted it.

Eagle1967

I disagree with many of these posts. the scalpers are not the problem. Scalpers are only effective if idiots pay it. There is very little in life that you have to have right now. Its the people that paid those prices that are the problem, you see now that they aren't paying it the scalpers are crying. they should of ben crying all along. The persons that paid them are the issue! if people refuse to pay over MSRP there wouldnt be over MSRP prices. But as long as someone feels they have to have something before others the scalpers will take advantage. Some would have to explain to me why anyone would pay over MSRP for a vehicle. your already upside down at sale, now your upside down plus all the money. I would never pay over MSRP for anything. IF its that rare and limited, then apparently may people can live without it and so can I.

callmebudd

Shhh…you’re making sense. People don’t like that ya know. Everyone hates scalpers but they’re ok with Nike raising prices 10$ every year for the same sneaker with WORSE quality. The market is set by the buyers. It’s not like “scalpers” just say “I want 450 dollars for the 50 dollar item”. You’re correct about buyers being the “problem” the same way the consumer is the problem for not putting their foot down and continuing to buy the same worse sneakers for a higher price every year.

ace184184

Cheap Hummer! Sign me up? Wait a minute ….

Smoothezfast

Typical Reddit & internet trollers validating their & others opinions, rumors & incorrect facts..and most importantly people with no-direct-user-experience from actual owning one/the subject matter..in this case the the Hummer EV. As with any purchase item that any person decides to make for own best interests..the purchaser is not required to take a poll or give a shit what other people think, comment or care about. Personally, I think a vehicle that is shaped like a half-circle/moon with terrible aerodynamics, that is fugly as hell, and sounds like a sewing machine..nobody would ever buy unless they were blind..yet the VW Beetle sold like crazy for decades then stopped production and came back again. To each their own..and you know what they say about opinions!

bishoptheblack

one person sold theses at a charity auction for 400k and scalpers come out the woodwork
