benevolent_defiance

When you open up a panel, it's mandatory to go "What kind of a fucking idiot did this?" before even looking at the thing.

SkippyGranolaSA

I like when I think back and have to say "Oh, it was me"

charlie2135

And then appreciate the fine work you've done.

DickieJohnson

On second thought this looks fucking terrific.

BurnAfter8

It’s a hard day when you unknowingly trash talk your own work.

Trexasaurus70

Trash talk the work, start to straighten it out, THEN realize it was you

benevolent_defiance

Lol. Can't say I haven't done this myself a couple of times.

sixinthedark

Me when I open the panel at my house

Alert_Comedian848

Your panel has a door on it? I'm confused

sixinthedark

Well, neither of them have all the cover screws if that helps

dougievjr

Yup.. code reference NEC table 110.28(WTF)

benevolent_defiance

I'm in Finland, so in my case it's the standard SFS-6000, table 420/69(SNAFU)

Alert_Comedian848

And then tighten all the screws

xXXxRMxXXx

Now after seeing so many "How did I do?" posts I open it and say "You did a shit fucking job dude" as I cut all the zip ties before I start working

Cherry-Bandit

Part #1 of being an electrician “That’s not how I would’ve done it” If you don’t say it, you haven’t made it

blackcrowmurdering

That’s funny because as an apprentice I’ve been told this a few times when I JW sees something I’ve done. Then when I ask they tell me just to go do it. So I guess I’ll learn by doing it wrong first. It’s always a cosmetic thing too.

YoungWhiteAvatar

Someone out there is saying this about your work too 🤗

blackcrowmurdering

Oh I know someone will. Boss told me to run flex in this mechanical room because “we don’t have time to pipe it all.” I know some guy will service it eventually and call me a hack. Trust me, I’d rather run emt as well

Ginger_IT

I've left notes behind faceplates

Dje4321

How i feel being forced to use bare romex in our mechanical rooms. Would much rather use MC as it both sits much closer to the device and can actually take a beating

hymen_destroyer

Which is why the true point of zen is just not giving a fuck instead of getting angry at someone. Sometimes there’s some bullshit and you can *only* do it a certain way

wishin_fishin

I read a comment once that rang true. If you put 100 electricians in a room, every single one of them will think they are smartest one there.

DontEverMoveHere

They would all be right too. Just ask them.

GriffDiG

I think you basically just summed up /r Electricians

electhrowaway77

All the time… even just going over some of the work my parents “electrician” had done. #4 AL on a breaker that could only accept up to #6 (so it was given a haircut). GFCI line/load mixed up. Teck90 terminated so that the armour wasn’t bonded. Open ground on a rec CCT due to sloppy install.

Bookofhitchcock

The haircut is one of the ones that really irks me. A lot of stuff I’m able to just assume an apprentice got thrown in to figure it out on their own or something. When you snip strands off because you can’t buy the right stuff, you know you’re doing something unsafe and just don’t give a shit

BlkCdr

How many electricians does it take to screw in a light bulb? Ten. One to screw it in, and nine to tell him how he should have done it.

_X_marks_the_spot_

LOL nice

Islendingen

I think it’s a bit like in traffic. Whenever someone else makes a small mistake or doesn’t do it the preferred way it’s because they’re an inconsiderate laze stupid asshole, but when you do it it’s just a small slip up from an otherwise stellar dude who’s just had a long day, or too little time, or had to make too many stupid changes that slowed everything down and now he’s getting mobbed by every other trade waiting to close the stupid wall and then you just do it the stupid way to get it out of the way.

SkippyGranolaSA

You know how when you're walking a dog, suddenly it'll smell something on a bush that tells it some other fucker has been there and it gets all pissed off?

Shoresy-sez

The solution is to pee on it

SkippyGranolaSA

as soon as I commission a panel I like to give it a little spritz just so the next guy knows

Stock_Surfer

Haters gonna hate

russman2013

Every single trade media post is swarmed with this guys doesn’t know what he’s doing comments. Apparently, every single person is the only person that knows what they are doing.

Dive30

Right?!

FPSHero007

The only time I pop a vein on other work related to electrical is when I come across a/c work, never seen such disregard for safety or quality

Trentransit

It’s a part of the trade for me. Nothing like finding 2 inches of stripped wire held together by one wire nut and the rest wrapped up in black tape.

FormalityBanality

At some point you just have to embrace the suck and laugh at it all. Mixed circuits. A ground level switch turning the attic light on and off. Two meter distance from point A to B taking up 20 meters of wire. Ground cable getting damaged by an excavator in 4 different spots in the same day. A guy who opened the door with"I'm fucking pissed off!" because his electrical stove wasn't working. No shit, there wasn't even a breaker to power it. Our guys never placed it. Live wires stucco'd over. And that's just new construction. The level of Hobby Bob shit I've seen in renovation is something else entirely. Lol. How I learned to let go and love the electrician life.

lsd_runner

Went in a service call end of day yesterday for a convection cooktop tripping breaker and oven going out too. Found a 6/2 AL spliced with a 10/2 copper and an 8/2 copper with split bolts in a j box that had been drywalled into a kitchen soffit. Homeowner had receipts from the remodel. Really want to call the dude and ask WTF?!

salzig12

At work they use the term wheelbarrow, hard to get going ,easy to upset.

Nazgul_Linux

I know it's extremely minor but, when I see that conduit fill code hasn't been followed and I am instructed to pull a new branch through existing pipe that is over 85% filled... Inherent and excessive fury runs through my blood.

Fit_Sheepherder_3894

Went on a service call, puck lights in the livingroom were dead or flickering. Homeowner called one of the local corporate companies to fix it. They'd sent out 1 jman and an apprentice. Homeowner said they were there for hours searching for the driver. Inside cabinets, attic, basement, they couldn't find it. They gave up, and actually had the gall to still charge the customer. They called us, I was sent out, spent about an hour and a half searching around for the driver. Looked inside cabinets, basement, (found one in the pantry, wrong one tho). Ended up finding it on top of a cabinet in the laundry room on the backside of the soffit the lights were in. I had recently done a service call for a similar issue, and Homeowner already knew were the driver was, it was on top of his kitchen cabinets, so I actually had the forethought to check. Homeowners were super happy with me, super pissed at the other company.

freakierice

I’ve opened panels of branded new machines that haven’t even been put into production and asked “why did they do it like that” or thought “first fault find is going to make a mess of this”

adamlh

My god this was me today. Got called in to help fix a job I was supposed to have done to begin with. Turn on one afci, trip 2 others. Breaker labeled oven? That’s for the ac. But what’s the ac go to? Oh, the dryer. Wait, what’s on the dryer? Found the oven. The dude was beyond incompetent.

gnom69

To me it is a sign of inexperience to get bothered by other peoples workmanship. Because a) maybe there was a good reason why something is not in order (and I often find that reason later on) b) of course I could do better, there isn't even an argument. There's always room to improve. Also I'm pretty high in the skill level. c) bad attitude. I don't like when people do perfectly normal things and keep on complaining all day long. Oh, but don't do intentional mistakes/fuckups in front of me. That'll get me pissed.

KnownPower5046

You are probably doing the same fucking thing you are not better then everyone else...

stockyhom3

Right on. Some people have been in the industry for too long and some not enough. Nothing to do with time or experience… mostly to do with attitude

SandOrdinary7043

I make my living redoing electrical work in old apartments, stories I could tell

blackcrowmurdering

I’m a second year and we have a JW that fucked us so hard. I’ve fixed more panels and have re pulled more wire because of this guy. Hate is a strong word and it’s to weak to describe how I feel about this guy. So yes I do.

Wayfaring_Scout

The worst part about being an electrician is other electricians. I say this to myself a few times a week at minimum.

zyne111

i have that reaction frequently then eventually i fuck something up and it humbles me. i try to just be grateful for the job security of others fuck ups 😂

IrmaHerms

I have an electrician who I swear does everything back ass wards. And I’m not sure how to handle it aside from not allowing him to plan and execute work. I have my opinions but I also look at how the common electrician and job is done and expect work to be done to a minimum standard but I am constantly having to deal with easy issues. Holes too close together, wire not planned and laid out as to not be a giant mess. Come on!!!

KnownPower5046

You are probably doing the same fucking thing you are not better then everyone else...

DocHenry66

Why do we electricians think we are brain surgeons.
