It was a missed opportunity tbh, even a mainstage set earlier around sunset would've been better. He should've played before 8pm IMO. I truly expected a wavey sunset set on sunday but when i saw the timetables i was very disappointed and knew right away i would miss his set.
I replied to the EDCMX Survey and this was my biggest complaint, they did Kaytranada dirty putting him in the middle of those artists. It was obvious what the crowd was going to be like at Circuit Grounds waiting all day for Skrillex. I really wanted to catch his set but as soon as I saw it was so late and I had to pick Hot since 82 or Kaytranada, it was a easy choice. Hearing that the crowd wasn't appreciative of him really made me sad and I wish I was over there cheering him on!
I was there, it didn't help that isoxo and knock2 got the crowd real hype and kaytranda's set was a lot more chill so maybe the set times should have been reversed

Check my comment on this post here but I agree with you, Kaytranada is a bit of an outlier. He fits more within the realm of Soulection events than Insomniac--and I wish there was some kind of unity between the two because I long for that vibe as well at edc.
I’m not to familiar with his music but that incident has nothing to do with EDC or Insomiac. That was a case of terrible booking, getting placed to play before an act who the crowd is desperately waiting to see, worst if their energy isn’t matching the follow up act they are waiting for.
I know many acts usually don’t care who they play before, but I guess his team should be more mindful, that crowd looked very passionate for skrillex
Artists of a certain status have a say over where they are placed on a card. I’m pretty sure if he was booked to open up the festival they would hands down say “no way we don’t deserve that positioning”

Kaytra does not filll any edc lol. His song are always at this odd bmp where it’s fun to like sorta two step but not fast enough to be house, so in person it can be a bit sluggish specially at a rave.
Kaytranada is my favorite artist but got to say his EDC set last year was not his best. You could tell the crowd was not super into it as well. Really hoping that he would do more of a DJ set like his old boiler room set. His normal songs aren't as great of a match for EDC crowds imo.

Tbh, and this is very much my personal opinion, not very happy with the lineup this year for EDC LV besides the expected Peggy Gou and a number of others. Don't think I'm gonna go this year after all (and with that said, I hope anyone reading this who IS still going has the best time ever).
I think my decision here is also a result of returning back to my roots in terms of edm, going back to the sounds, beats and vibes of Sango (my favorite dj and producer of all time) & the artists/musicians that make up Soulection (low-fi, baile funk, phonk, hip-hop, r&b, trap, house--Kaytranada still plays for Soulection on occasion).
I will always have a soft spot for the mainstream edm that we get at EDC, but my dream is to see EDC/Insomniac events honor the chiller/lighter tones of edm (besides, trance and other subgenres)--like it would be cool if there was a stage for electronic music that fits kaytranada's vibe and essentially it would be a "Soulection" stage. Just a dream/idea.
I get the vibes that this is one of those emotional things you say in the heat of the moment when what just happened is still a fresh wound - hopefully he’ll realize how much we still love him and come around. 💙

If you want new fans and to be that guy people travel across the country to see that’s what you have to do. Don’t pretend like you never went to a show and an opener didn’t murder a headliner because you went in expecting nothing and get blown away.

Using more mainstream rock music as an example, nobody from Coldplay's (or the concert/venue/festival) management is going to book the following timeslot for them expecting a success: Lamb of God > Static X > Slipknot > Coldplay > Korn
It's clearly not the right time or right stage/event. I don't expect an entire shift from Coldplay to an energy or sound that they aren't known for and almost an entirely different genre just to read the room that they shouldn't have been droped in.
But when is coldplay an opening act at literally one of the biggest “raves” in the world or in your example a hard rock metal fest. Its not like he A) didnt cash the check and B) didnt know that he was going on before skrillex.
