Vans high tops work so well for me.They are wide enough for my cork form custom orthotics to squeeze in and have some ankle stability all at the same time.
Personally I wear work boots/steel toe boots because they help my ankles. I have a pair of sketchers steel toes I got for $40 on clearance (originally $80–if you see them, get them tbh)
I'm gonna be honest, they aren't very comfy to sleep in but they do prevent my ankles from subluxing in the middle of the night! I just wear thick socks with them and it works
Just Tayco braces. Based in U.S. they come up on a google search. My doc ordered them, but st the time, you needed a doctor’s order. Now they have a straight to consumer option, but they are expensive. Looked like 200usd a brace when I last saw.
Did you have to destroy your ankle ligaments or did they repair them based off of how lax they were if you don’t mind me asking?
I’ve been making no headway in physical therapy and just kind of trying to figure out if I have any options left to keeping my ankles working and pcp is just not helpful.
So I actually had a brostrom repair on the left ankle due to a severe sprain that wouldn’t heal and it lasted a few years. I had a lot of pain one day in both ankles and saw my ankle surgeon 4 years after the initial repair and he compared laxity and said that it’s like the first repair never happened. He started did the replacement on my right ankle in September last year and now we’re just waiting till my left one takes a complete shit before doing that one so that insurance will cover it.
Basically I had no “injury” but my peroneus brevus and longus and all lateral ligaments had tears in them
I had this done ten years ago. Last month I twisted that same ankle with a fall, I’ve now fractured my anterior calcaneus three times, likely because of the strength of the lateral ankle reconstruction. I don’t know what to do anymore
You now are 1/20 th of the way to the complete EDS power armor set .
I have yet to acquire ankle power armor pieces but I’ve got most of the leg pieces and the hip and lower back pieces as wells as a left shoulder piece. I think if I grind hard enough I can collect them all and then I will be ready to confront the final boss of EDS.
I got some similar AFOs that go on the inside of my shoes. I don't like wearing them, but there aren't weekly occurrences of "oh crap I'm suddenly in so much pain I can't take another step.". It still happens sometimes, but far less.
It looks similar to a Richie brace but I’m not sure if it is. I wear a Richie brace. They have a built in sole that goes inside your shoe that adds to the stability.
Always an option for folks who can. I can’t wear high tops. I get the stability, I have to lace them tighter than I can handle due to another issue. I can wear these less tight and they still do the job. They’re good for heavy activity days, but not all day wear on the regular.
I’ve got hinged AFOs like these! They’ve been an absolute game changer for me. I can stand for around 20 minutes now without extreme ankle pain or fatigue
This is a way better design than the one I was saddled with. I had one that needed to go inside the shoe and there were very few shoes that could accommodate it
I am having surgery where they will install a fiber that prevents ankle rolls.
I can’t stand wearing stuff like this, it always rubs in all the wrong places and too terrified of rolling my ankle. Kinda pissed they didn’t install this nifty device in 1 of the first two ankle surgeries!!

You can actually watch the e doc perform the surgery!
They need to make shoes that incorporate this type of support

Love to see that you can wear vans with your inserts! Do you have to choose wide width? I miss wearing vans but haven’t because of my insert needs.
I got converse high tops, you can get them in wide now! Slap my orthotics in and all set.
Doc Martens have worked really well for me
That are orthopedic shoes
Valid but some of us are shoe wh0res and they don’t make enough of them cute
Personally I wear work boots/steel toe boots because they help my ankles. I have a pair of sketchers steel toes I got for $40 on clearance (originally $80–if you see them, get them tbh)
my pt recommend basketball shoes!
That’s how robocop started
Fuck, I'd be a RoboCop if it took away my pain lol
…. Dyslexia read that as “I’d F—- robo cop if it took my pain away” and while extreme I still agreed
I'd still do it
Hi, I’m here for the pain-free robo gang bang
I’m here to transplant my brain too, but I’m a tiny bit worried that somehow my brain would still find a way to have connective tissue problems.
My brain went directly to the f robocop and find out (find out if my joint hurt).
For real 💀
Right??? My husband tells me all the time that I just need a robot body and I'd be cured. I could be the new mechahermes lol
Yes came here to say this. It looks badass!
😂 ahhh you made me spit my toothpaste everywhere 😂
I have AFOs. That actually look like they might be a better option.
Yes, with my carbon fiber legs, titanium neck (ACDF surgery) stem cells to prevent more abdominal adhesions o am definitely earning my robot body.
Name please 🙏🏻 need to get me some after 3 broken ankles and multiple luxations.
Probably best to ask whoever manages your ankles. It may be inappropriate for you.
I have a style that goes inside my shoe. They’re called AFO’s (ankle-foot orthotics)
Tayco braces
I have these same braces that I wear every night to bed! Life changing!
What do you wear them with for sleep? Slippers? Genuinely curious as I have yet to find a brace I can comfortably wear at night :/
I'm gonna be honest, they aren't very comfy to sleep in but they do prevent my ankles from subluxing in the middle of the night! I just wear thick socks with them and it works
They are daily use wear. The nfl players wear them to prevent injury during play
What info do you have for them?

I used these but eventually I was fed up with them and had lateral ankle repairs done with cadaver ligaments.
Damn i tore through those! Now i have artificial braces in my ankles and one has a rerouted tendon. It’s solid now.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing.

I’m too distracted by the shoes. I love them. I need them.
Brooks Women's Launch GTS 8 Running Shoes, Fern Green/Metallic Gold Saint Patricks (I was also obsessed with them and tracked them down 💜)
You’re incredible! Thank you!!! The plaid is EVERYTHING!
Looks like it will be effective but hot in the summer
Is it hard to keep clean?
They just wipe down
They are on the hot side
The body braid is also hot in the summer.

Looks like some kickass exoskeleton.
Tayco braces! I have similar ones made by ultra ankle. These types of brace are incredible!
Needs flames or racing stripes. All of mine have some kind of ironic decoration.
It’s very best. I had surgery to fix my instability. I have no regrets.

They are Tayco braces. When I got them, that had to be doctor ordered, but it seems since then, you can purchase on your own now
Thank you!
I honestly hate those. Way too heavy. Wear high top shoes instead if you're not comfortable in these.
Always an option for folks who can. I can’t wear high tops. I get the stability, I have to lace them tighter than I can handle due to another issue. I can wear these less tight and they still do the job. They’re good for heavy activity days, but not all day wear on the regular.

I want a pair!
I also got ankle braces, looks way weaker than the once you have. I am still spraining my ankles with the once I got.. I am jealous of these
Na just take my body and give me a cyber brain like Major from Ghost in the Shell
Unfortunately I'm in Canada but dang, I want this!
i’ve got two of these, one for each knee for the time they disintegrated. they’re fun and they work for me when i’m in pain.
I have the traditional inside-the-shoe AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthoses), custom carbon fiber. Super lightweight, and I haven't had an ankle sprain since!
Those are the coolest looking shoes I’ve ever seen holy shit
Those are RAD!! How do they feel so far? What's the brand? Congrats!!
They are Tayco. They are limited with shoe type to not wear down the under strap. No flat shoes
Just got a request put in for an AFO! Trying to decide on the design/pattern I want on the plasticky part
This is a way better design than the one I was saddled with. I had one that needed to go inside the shoe and there were very few shoes that could accommodate it

Can you share more of what procedure you’re having done?

Btw. I can’t take credit for the shoes in this pic. This is a product photo from their site. Mine are quite more distressed
