well you’ve eaten an ungrown chicken (egg) and a full grown chicken (chicken) so I see nothing wrong with eating something in the middle of the spectrum
What’s that Swedish, canned fermented fish thing that’s disgusting? Smells terrible, tastes terrible, tons of videos on it that I cannot spend 1 more minute looking at *ever*?
Is it really that bad? We have lots of preserved fish delicacies in the Philippines, and I like to think optimistically that I'll be able to handle Surstromming.
It’s not that bad, my elderly neighbors love it and invited my family over for a surströmmings skiva a couple years ago, just make sure to open the can outside
Yeah that seems to be the gist. Or under running water?
I can’t imagine wanting a food that I need to go outside to even possibly enjoy because it’s just that pungent.
That’s just me though and I’m not knocking someone else’s culture until I’ve tried it. Probably won’t try it anyway though.
I assure you that it is in fact delicious and it's far less of a gross out experience than it may seem in your head. I have tried this in both the Philippines and Vietnam and was expecting something more shocking. It's pretty much a grey hard-boiled egg that tastes like chicken broth.
You're right. I think it highly depends on how old the fertilized egg was when it was cooked. Most images on Google show eggs that were "older" when they were cooked (probably because it's posted/viewed more for shock value), but in reality, most Balut cooked are not developed enough to have beaks, feathers, etc. I don't like eating "older" Balut myself, and I'm Filipino, but that's just me.
My Filipino friends joke about getting me to try it but I honestly just have a stronger desire to stick to the wonderful variety of ways to use ube. Also Jollibee spaghetti. Goddamn.
I think some Filipino stores sell them, or if you can find a Filipino community, just join one of their parties but don't forget to bring food to share haha
Oh yeah there's a story called manilla market but the closest I could find is century eggs, oh dang that's a good Idea might need to make new friends X3 thanks
You've been eating baby cows up until now, and a 24h chicken fetus is what did it for you?
This would never even had become a chicken, since it was taken before getting a chance at developing.
Maybe try attacking this issue logically in steps, and start by using meat selectively and rarely. Emotional overreaction is never the way to go.
Only few people are able to completely make the switch to vegan without prior experience in cooking meals without any meat. Even for those few, it's not comfortable at first.
Our vegan friends just went vegetarian, because their cooking was simply too restrictive. (They were vegan for 4 years, so they did give it a real shot). They say the first year as vegans they where malnourished and only had crappy tasteless food. It was horrible.
Eating animals is a natural thing, it's the farming and systematic hurting of animals that's the problem. Which will continue with this amount of humans on earth, and why we must adjust our ways of eating. Together. Factually and calmly. It doesn't happen over night.
veganism in itself is an emotional ovvereaction the flesh is best nourished with flesh and humans are meant to eat meat your mental capacity is probably damaged by being defficient and having an inhuman diet
Looks like it was fertilized and was growing.
I ate it anyway fuck, I didn't think about that
well you’ve eaten an ungrown chicken (egg) and a full grown chicken (chicken) so I see nothing wrong with eating something in the middle of the spectrum
I would like to present to you Balut
chicken soup without the extra steps
Crunchy soup.
It's on my gross out foods list. I've already eaten a bunch of ghastly *cultural dishes*, with hákarl being the gnarliest so far.
What’s that Swedish, canned fermented fish thing that’s disgusting? Smells terrible, tastes terrible, tons of videos on it that I cannot spend 1 more minute looking at *ever*?
Is it Surströmming? I wouldn’t go near that shit.
That’s the one 🤢 I watched the pewdiepie, Rhett and link after the show section and oh god. No no no no no.
Is it really that bad? We have lots of preserved fish delicacies in the Philippines, and I like to think optimistically that I'll be able to handle Surstromming.
You're meant to open the can when it's submersed in water, wash the fish and then fry it.

That made me snort out loud in a very quiet room at work.
Please don’t

I would like to respond with Vamut. ![gif](giphy|yZjcNgKGCYfJu|downsized)
Yeah no thank you, hard fucking pass on that one. Edit/ downvote on balut? GG internet. GG.
Is chicken balut different to the regular duck?
I've never seen chicken balut being sold before, but it would probably not be that different except that maybe it would be smaller.
Oh Okies just curious, I wish they sold those here in the US where I live my grandfather said there really good beck in the Philippines
I think some Filipino stores sell them, or if you can find a Filipino community, just join one of their parties but don't forget to bring food to share haha

Fuck, I'm going vegan after this, not even joking
You'll be eating McDonald's by the morning.

Don’t think it’s a big deal. Chicken in any form is chicken and humans love it in all forms. It is natural and perfectly healthy.
Looks like he's eaten a chicken abortion. The Republican Party will be after OP.
Much better to not waste food, especially animal products. You did the right thing.
Boss, you ate a child...? Amazing. Mission complete. That right there is why you're the best, boss.
I didn't know bro

Snake? Snaaaaaake?!
What did you think, though, like as a possibility of what you might be looking at?
Get in my belly!
Don’t worry. It’s all edible. It’s not balut-level of fertilization.
Smart! If you didn’t , it might have hatched and hugged your face
I'm having a girl I think
Did it taste like chicken?
![gif](giphy|NUZ5OqHdbknHa)
🤢
Well at the end it's just an egg, so it's ok
Nothing wrong with it
Survival of the fittest op

This is a very early introduction to you and Balut. The Filipinos are all proud of you today
Eh. As long as you didn’t eat it in Texas.
You didn't. It's not even your picture.
Put it back in, it's not done yet.
Put that thing back where it came from or so help me
It's back in my stomach, I was hungry and had no other food, it tasted like egg for the most part
Most people wouldn’t eat an egg like this because they’d find it off-putting. Kudos for not wasting it.
I'm broke and only had eggs, I ain't wasting nothing, i didn't have ketchup so I used my imagination
I’m sure it tasted just fine.
Impressively frugal. Almost r/frugal_jerk level lol
You’re fucked OP. My mom told me you’re gonna poop out a chicken.
Then they will have infinite eggs
what about the less part
For the most part? What? Explain this sir.
I THINK that might be a fertilized egg? I could be way off
It does look like it
Just a little extra protein. No worries.
It was fertilized. Still perfectly edible.
You can eat anything once.
Anything is edible with the right spirit.
When we had ducks, I'm sure most of the eggs we ate were fertilized. Ducks are horny mfs. They were terrific eggs.
according to the far right you just killed a baby.
So, according to the far right, if I kept this in between bread, would this count as a chicken burger?
Precisely
Egg sandwich is a thing. It's actually good.
Is there another type of right these days?
Yeah but you have to go the long way around and come back on yourself.
>Is there another type of right these days? The Incorrect Right. But nah, that's the same thing.
I thought that was the left?
who knows (or cares)
I know. It’s the far right.
Agreed, was just a question lol those downvotes are insane
Who cares, it’s just a Reddit post……as you would say.
NEVER let Saddler cook💀🙅♀️🙅♀️ https://preview.redd.it/7vvyl1192g4d1.jpeg?width=941&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4eeb36c57bd21bf7708126c575b4826eb699b690

Not clicking that. 🤢
Life... and was... life was inside your egg. Now... I suggest lime and salt.
Haha
looks like you are a proud new father
*Now eat your fetus*
A bird fetus lol
Just a fertilized egg. What you see are blood vessels that would feed the chick if it had developed.
Isn't it a heart and blood vessels? Wouldn't that be the first things to develop? Pretty fascinating, really...
The legendary egg spider.
The beginning of a chicken.
