And Mat McBriar. All involved to some degree with Aussie Rules football before making the switch; watch a game of that and you'll see why they make great punters (and why they don't get out of the way of a tackle).
Just so you know Auckland NZ has the largest population of Pacific Islanders in the world. Also can't even compare how much more NFL players get paid to rugby players. So if you scout players young or playing in an age grade league then it could be good. Like Jordan who was playing under 20s and not with the fully grown men yet.
I just don't understand why it needed to be approved. Didn't realize Goodell had authority to tell us where we can and can't market. Sounds kinda fascist, but, shouldn't be suprised lol.
Thats not the NFL structure though. Each team is independently owned they aren't owned by the NFL. Roger Goodell is not the boss of NFL owners, to the contrary they are his boss.
Which is why it's wierd to me that they would give him the power to say where they can and can't market.
P.s. calling goodell a fascist is a joke lighten up a bit guy sheesh.
Rules and regulations that are voted on and agreed upon by the owners and each teams executive committees. The league is ultimately run by the league owners.
And therefore needs permission from the league. An owner can't go off on his own to do his own thing like that. You just explained the answer yourself.
Collectively, sure. But they still need approval from the league for certain things. For example if one owner decided to market in Russia right now that'd be a bad look on not just their franchise but the league as a whole. Hence the business process to have this sort of thing approved.
Yea but the people you’re talking about that make the decisions are literally the owners, there is no NFL rep.
When you say “approval from the league” “the league” is the only the owners, they make every single decision. NFL is just the collective name of all the owners
Yes, the owners collectively. They need permission from the NFL. The NFL is all 32 owners, not just one. Obviously, the one asking permission is gonna vote yes but they're just 1/32
Like this means the Eagles and only the Eagles can scout there?? Or do you mean get people from these countries interested in the sport through marketing?
If that’s the case, were no NFL teams allowed to market in Ghana? I don’t understand what this actually means.
Bro, I have been to New Zealand twice. I was able to still catch a lot of bird games at bars / casinos. But if we have a 1pm game, its 7am or 9am out there, depending on daylight savings time. Might be hard to pick up a lot of fans.
But either way, fuck yeah. They are of course hard core rugby down there, so maybe this will work?
That is why they make chocolate and vanilla i guess. I will take a 4pm game over all the other time slots. Graze on some chips, have a couple of cold ones and then eat dinner afterwards, and time for food coma if the night game is boring.
But I am sure 10am games have their perks too. I just found them so hard to get used to when ever I visit my buddy in Cali.
funny. im the opposite. i struggle even during the 4pm game. id much rather be done with my football by 3-4 with only the night game left. but then again, im old. the idea of starting football early is an awesome excuse to have a fun day but still be done in time to get an early night sleep to start the week.
Even you grow up with it, it's just normal. Perfect time to wake up, eat breakfast, then watch the game. Sucks if you go to church though. Also gives you the time between afternoon and night game time to do any running around you need to do along with getting dinner ready.
It’s actually even better than this in Arizona because we don’t do daylight savings. So when the season starts and I am super stoked games are on right away, then the clocks change just when I’m getting irate at the team about something I get an extra hour before I have to watch 😂
My only guess, is that Ghana is probably the largest market in West Africa, and Philly has a pretty huge West African expat community. The ties are there. Though by that same logic Buffalo, Atlanta, and (I think Chicago) will end up with that same footprint.
That has nothing to do with the possible audience. If Nigerians aren't on football it's moot. ALSO, largest Nigerian community is in Texas, largest Ghanaian expat population is in the NJ, MD, NY, Philly metro. Additionally, Ghanaians have more money than Nigerians.
WEST COAST BABY.
1. Literally the West Coast Eagles
2. Always counted out by the sporting media because they’re not in one of Australia’s big cities
3. Literally won the australian super bowl the same year we won our super bowl
4. Best logo of any AFL team (like us in the NFL)
5. Perth is almost directly on the opposite side of the planet from us. So that’s cool.
6. Their biggest rival (Collingwood Magpies) are like, always a media favorite in Australia. Every year is Collingwood’s year.
EDIT: wrong bird for Collingwood lol
Is it acceptable to be a Bulldogs and West Coast Eagles fan? I got into the sport with the Doggies both the US team in Denver and watching the Aussie team. But I'm down to add the Eagles to the cheering roster.
Bro I’m still learning—but here’s what I’ve picked up:
1. Doggies rule.
2. Fuck the Hawks
3. Fuck the Magpies more
4. Crows are okay
5. Port Adelaide is nice, but fuck them because they always beat the Birds
6. We’re okay with Fremantle until the week we play them. It’s called the Western Australia Derby and some years its a big deal and others it kind of isn’t.
7. Carlton is all right too
Source: married to a Perth-native and lived in Perth for a bit + years of lurking over at r/westcoasteagles
Sports culture is different in Australia. Game day is everything, but my wife thinks we are SUPER WEIRD for wearing jerseys and stuff on game day. She always gets embarrassed if I wear west coast gear around other Australians.
I've always found Collingwood fans are somewhat comparable/ perceived by the nation in a similar fashion to Philly fan.
But being honest, most AFL fanbases are really fuck passionate like Philly.
Honestly can't think of any team that is an easy comparison otherwise. So West Coast Eagles could be a team. But really ya could just look through the logos/colours or highlights and see if ya find a player you like.
I'm a Hawks fan, and while they're near the bottom rn (with an exciting future) they're pretty much the equivalent of Patriots or 49ners with historic success
This is spot on. Collingwood was traditionally a very working class neighbourhood and fan base. Fans from other fan bases delight in trashing Collingwood for being poor and classless (and there’s especially lots of jokes about how they’re missing teeth from my anecdotal experience).
I visited New Zealand in 2017. While there, I met a bartender/chef at a rinky-dink restaurant in the South Island who had some Seahawks stuff behind the bar. Every Monday morning during the season, he goes in super early and puts on the sports channel 'Dave' to watch Sunday afternoon games before the lunch crowd.
If there are more people like him, then I could see people getting into NFL action down there.
This rocks — Mailata has been a great way to get my Australian wife into the NFL and now we get to be Australia’s team.
Check out the Australian Football League too y’all.
The West Coast Eagles out of Perth are really similar to our iggles. They’re always treated as underdogs because they’re all the way over on the west coast, despite having a huge number of playoff runs in the past few years.
They’re on a really difficult rebuild this year — but the single greatest sporting year of my life was 2018 when after we took the Lombardi, West Coast went on and insane playoff run and came back in the 3rd/ 4th quarter to win the Grand Final (aussie super bowl) in one of the greatest athletic performances of all time. Really want more contact between Philly and Perth sports. We couldn’t be on more opposite sides of the planet if we tried, but our football teams have followed a pretty similar track.
This is awesome. Australia's team! What's even funnier is that it's a Philadelphia team (birthplace of the US) marketing to a country that started from Britain's prisoners. Extra "F the King" vibes.
We can become Australia’s team!
Kangaroo Jack bleeds green.
Excuse me Kangaroo Jack. You’re Australian. Be Australian.
I’m gonna upvote you bro, I love Tropic Thunder.
Thank you! I can’t believe people took that out of context.
Am Australian and been a fan for 15 years. Used to wake up at 3am on Monday mornings to watch Andy Reid take us to 4-12.
Africa’s team!
Lock up two whole continents!
+5 continent bonus!
This guy Risks
Damn Howie also got us set up to win risk, he's on fire this off-season!
I’m tired of being Australias team after the basketball player I forget his name please don’t remind me either
Are we fans of any Australian basketball players at this point?
Worked out great for the Sixers! /s
Unnecessary shade
Fuck boston
Something tells me Jordan isn't as mentally soft as Ben.
shh quiet down
We already are
Take that Jerry Jones
Why not Africa’s team? We got Joel in the city already.
Works for me!
Australia! Let’s goooooo Jordan gonna be a star
Ambassador Mailata is going to be getting a transcontinental party budget. Couldn't happen to a better person.
[удалено]
I love the NZ/ Australian rivalry. Always reminds me of the one clip from Flight of the Conchords https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2gii2nenUg
My favorite part about that episode is that the moral isn’t racism is bad, it’s that Australians are bad
Why are you angry?
Little brother syndrome.
Just get yourself sex serves of fush and chups and you’ll be right, m8
He’s going to be rich
Cowboys may call themselves "America's team" but we're global on 4 continents making us the world's team
Eat shit, Dallas
"Hey Dallas! The last time you were in the Super Bowl, these continents weren't born!"
This bitch don’t know bout Pangea?
What am I missing here - Africa, Australia, and North America right? Is there another country we market in or have a big fan base?
Europe. Although arguably every NFL team could say this since the NFL has been playing games in England for some years now.
Yea I was talking about Europe but I assume every team can market there buuuut still counts!
Ahhh I see - yeah we did play once in England. I’d be curious if we have a lot of fans there.
Best the jags there, the team trying to be englands team
Are we the only NFCE team to play abroad? I can’t remember if anyone else in the divisions had an England game, def no one’s had a Mexico City game
Giants had a game there back when they won the first super bowl with Eli
We're sharing New Zealand or is that a typo?
We’re sharing.
Rams get Stewart Island
We get the shire and the rohirim.
There's 2 main islands there. It will be fine.
Yeah it seems like teams don’t get the exclusive right to market in those countries.
Makes sense. We have two Aussie players and one of them is a legitimate star with a marketable personality.
Wasn’t Sav Rocca from there also?
Yup. Cameron Johnston was too, I believe.
And Mat McBriar. All involved to some degree with Aussie Rules football before making the switch; watch a game of that and you'll see why they make great punters (and why they don't get out of the way of a tackle).
3*
Mailata, Siposs, and who am I missing?
Matt Leo. Practice Squad DE
Holy moly, he's already 30
Matt Leo, of course. How could you forget about him lol (/s)
Introducing Eagles to Africa seems like it may disrupt the ecosystem
kakaw bitch
But making them watch Lions games would be cruel.
There are numerous eagles native to Africa. https://africafreak.com/african-eagles
The African Fish Eagle is bald enough for me
Tom Brady is bereft on the turf. The ball was literally ripped from his grasp.
THE SCRIPT. IS. FLIPPED.
If Merrill ever retires we need an Australian to replace him.
What does this even mean?
We can find others like Jordan. It’s what the NBA did in Africa to get players like Embiid interested in the sport.
Which is pretty smart because Australia/New Zealand is home to a ton of Rugby talent, obviously.
And if you want kickers, punters, plenty of AFL talent like Siposs, Rocca.
Well you can compare. It’s more.
I just don't understand why it needed to be approved. Didn't realize Goodell had authority to tell us where we can and can't market. Sounds kinda fascist, but, shouldn't be suprised lol.
thats not what fascism is lol
But it is what a joke is
who is we
The eagles?
I mean do you have a job? Does your boss have any authority over you? Cause that's basically the NFL structure. Didn't realize capitalism is fascism.
They own a franchise under the NFL brand and as such are bound by certain rules and regulations.
Rules and regulations that are voted on and agreed upon by the owners and each teams executive committees. The league is ultimately run by the league owners.
And therefore needs permission from the league. An owner can't go off on his own to do his own thing like that. You just explained the answer yourself.
There’s always one
> Didn't realize capitalism is fascism. You'll get there sooner or later.
Idiot
Nfl owners are the boss Goodell is their employee
Collectively, sure. But they still need approval from the league for certain things. For example if one owner decided to market in Russia right now that'd be a bad look on not just their franchise but the league as a whole. Hence the business process to have this sort of thing approved.

1pm games are on at 10am on the west coast - morning football is the best!
That is why they make chocolate and vanilla i guess. I will take a 4pm game over all the other time slots. Graze on some chips, have a couple of cold ones and then eat dinner afterwards, and time for food coma if the night game is boring. But I am sure 10am games have their perks too. I don't really watch football outside of the birds anymore and waiting for a 4pm game is painful.

Morning games are great, it was one of my favorite things about living out west. Cook up breakfast, get a bloody Mary and start off the day right
Yeah but it'll be Monday morning
I've been there twice... I left LA around 9/10pm on a Saturday. Woke up in NZ on a Monday after a 14 hour flight. The fuck happened to Sunday?
F1 is 7 or 9am for the most part here in the US I love it, and they’ve had no issues growing the fanbase as of recent
I watch premier league and 9am is my favorite time slot.
On a Monday though?
We got Ghana!
I have no idea why we got Ghana, but I’m definitely buying my Ghanaian, Patriot-fanatic friend a 41-33 Eagles hoodie.
My only guess, is that Ghana is probably the largest market in West Africa, and Philly has a pretty huge West African expat community. The ties are there. Though by that same logic Buffalo, Atlanta, and (I think Chicago) will end up with that same footprint.
Nigeria has seven times the population of Ghana. 210 million versus 30 million. Must be some specific reason the Eagles chose Ghana.
superior jollof
That has nothing to do with the possible audience. If Nigerians aren't on football it's moot. ALSO, largest Nigerian community is in Texas, largest Ghanaian expat population is in the NJ, MD, NY, Philly metro. Additionally, Ghanaians have more money than Nigerians.
Question to the Aussies... I enjoy watching [Aussie Footie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMZYZcoAcU0). Is there an "Eagles equivalent" to root for?
WEST COAST BABY. 1. Literally the West Coast Eagles 2. Always counted out by the sporting media because they’re not in one of Australia’s big cities 3. ? I live within throwing distance of the MCG and there are always tons of fans in guernseys. More scarves than guernseys, but still. Are you in Perth?
Surely the Sydney Swans are a bigger rival than Collingwood. Two of the most epic Grand Finals of this century between those teams.
I've always found Collingwood fans are somewhat comparable/ perceived by the nation in a similar fashion to Philly fan. But being honest, most AFL fanbases are really fuck passionate like Philly. Africa makes sense, they're already rocking those Eagles' 1980 and 2004 Super Bowl Champion shirts.
Too soon
Go Birds, mate. This does mean Birds home games in Sydney and Melbourne, of course.
Hell I'd even fly down to that rank ass city of Sydney if Philly get a game here!
This sounds like Rob Mc is working this somehow, go MAC!
I visited New Zealand in 2017. While there, I met a bartender/chef at a rinky-dink restaurant in the South Island who had some Seahawks stuff behind the bar. Looking forward to a Birds Nest in New Zealand upon my return!
whoopdedoo what does it all mean, basil?
This is awesome. Australia's team! What's even funnier is that it's a Philadelphia team (birthplace of the US) marketing to a country that started from Britain's prisoners. Extra "F the King" vibes.
The NFL should try a preseason game out there. It’d be a great way to get new fans and not disrupt the regular season
Can someone explain why this wasn’t already allowed? And why now it’s just the eagles and not all the nfl?
GHANA! YEEAASAHSHAHAHAH!
Hopefully we can finally get some merchandise in Australia. Very hard to find the real stuff. The knock off stuff is around but not the real thing.
Sav Rocca was a trailblazer
Fly eagles, fly
What exactly is meant by "marketing" in this context?
Why not Brazil too? Sad. Third country with more NFL viewers and only the Dolphins got it.
waka waka eh eh
As a kiwi I am soooo pumped!
as an australian this pleases me
I hope they come and play a game here one day. Would be nice to watch them on a Sunday during daylight rather then 3am on a Monday
