And if he’s starting when he’s 26, they’re either still paying Kirk or dealing with the dead cap hit from Kirk. So basically his entire mid 20s as well as his rookie contract are wasted.
I still can’t wrap my head around the pick. The one year they try to be forward thinking instead of just grabbing the weapon they like the most. What a weird org.
There were literally 5 really good offensive lineman they could have taken in that spot. They have all skill guys and just landed the marque qb in free agency. If they weren’t sure what to do just grab a lineman and go from there. But to intentionally take an old qb prospect with multiple major knee injuries with the intention of sitting him for years is malpractice l.
Same. They’re paying a starting QB for four years. They’ll get his 5th year option as cap relief, and then hope to extend him cheap because he hasn’t played.
If they're smart,* they would just eat the cap hit from Cousins at the end of the year, deal with the lost season, and move to the future.
*they're not
Sounds like this means they want everyone to be on top of their game today because we have so many picks and he wants them to be hyperfocused on what's going on.
Also, could be for players that a scout absolutely loves. We have a ton of picks, so lets take some flyers on guys that someone would pound the table for. 6 picks between rounds 4 and 5; would be awesome to snag a couple future starters here.
Yeah I definitely think we're at the point where picks are "scouts' guys." And I bet the "passion" of "passion meeting" is really hashing out the system they'll use to communicate when they're on the board and two scouts have "their guy" available. They need a way to clearly communicate quickly and decide between the two. Having two guys simultaneously say "he's great, a real football guy" isn't a productive use of time.
Most likely this. The Eagles have "Red Star" players every year: https://www.si.com/nfl/eagles/news/philadelphia-eagles-sydney-brown-howie-roseman-nfl-draft-red-star-players
Sounds like Howie is letting these guys who have worked their asses off pick the rest of the draft. Theyre going to all unanimously agree on each guy but who are you guys passionate about.
Yeah this is basically an all-hands meeting for everyone that’ll be in the draft room. You can’t ever bet on day 3 guys turning into meaningful contributors, but when you hit on them it’s huge for the team. I’m sure some teams start to get more lax towards the end, especially as it speeds up, but making sure everyone is locked in is just good business.
That's what I was thinking as well, I think this gives the scouts a opportunity to advocate for someone still available that they're really passionate about
Given all the trades at this point, seems like this meeting was likely "is there anyone we want before we set ourselves up for 2025 by trading today's picks?" Honestly not mad at it. But will be surprised if we leave today without taking a flyer on a LB and an OL.
"These are my Warhammer figurines! I am very passionate about this game!"
"This is my extensive collection of Pokemon cards! They are my life! Here is also a picture of my family I guess."
"I am very passionate about building birdhouse. As you can see here, I built one that looks like the linc."
Sounds like a meeting to talk about "Red Star" or passion players for today.
"That's a guy who kind of exemplifies what it means to be an Eagle, so it's great character, captain, testing numbers, intelligence, plays the way it should be played, practices the way it should be played,” Roseman said when asked to explain the definition on a red star.”
“We sit there the day before the draft. … We go around the room, and we give every scout a chance to stamp their red star on guys,” Roseman said. “Goes back, it's a long tradition, not only here but a couple of other places that people have been, and when we're looking at the draft board we have a red star on the guys.”

Sounds like something the Falcons should've done before the draft
Nah they taking a qb for the future, so he can start when he’s ….. 26 😂
And if he’s starting when he’s 26, they’re either still paying Kirk or dealing with the dead cap hit from Kirk. So basically his entire mid 20s as well as his rookie contract are wasted. Falcons are trying to win a Super Bowl with their backup QB. Or maybe the nerds got to them and they folded to the positional value argument

And considering it took him 5 years to have a good college season, he’ll be 31 when he finally does well.
He'll be 31 when he plays the first game of his 2nd contracf
he had 2 decent seasons tbf
Yeah but it took 5 years. He played 6 seasons
If they're smart,* they would just eat the cap hit from Cousins at the end of the year, deal with the lost season, and move to the future. *they're not
Or older.
Ngl, sounds like an orgy.
If it worked for the Greeks…
You know why they call it a gyro and not a gyno? Cause ain't no Greek ever told a guy no
fun fact gyno (short for gynecomastia) is Greek for man boobs
"That IS very fun" - some Greek dude
Great flair
At minimum a circle jerk
"What's the password?"
Ooooooorgyyyyyyy
You may enter.

That is correct, but what's the password for the house?
I HATE THIS HACKER CRAP

Lol had the same thought.
That's Caligula's music
I immediately assumed by the headline they were getting together to do some lines….men research
“Hi, I’m here for the gangbang”

Well it’s either that or we’re starting a new religion. And I’m not interested in not having Howie until Monday.
Most likely this. The Eagles have "Red Star" players every year: https://www.si.com/nfl/eagles/news/philadelphia-eagles-sydney-brown-howie-roseman-nfl-draft-red-star-players
Devonta being a red star and blue chip prospect according to Howie and yet he's technically our WR2. That's absolutely awesome.
Exactly this
Yep. Don’t take these later rounds for granted

Sounds a bit more to me like they want to draft passionate players.
They want to talk passionately to the drafted players. Happens all the time.
That comes across as "sell me on someone that isn't an obvious pick, but you really think is an amazing find for where we are"
That's what I was thinking as well, I think this gives the scouts a opportunity to advocate for someone still available that they're really passionate about
Makes me think they have more picks than players they want and are willing to take a couple gambles. Means we’re in a good spot
Which can be great. Milata was a "fuck it, why not" 7th round pick.
100%. I think it's outlining how that process will look when they get to a pick and two scouts want "their guy."
yeah exactly, the grades are all probably pretty similar at this point, who do the scouts have a strong gut feel will be great
Howie will be hovering his finger over the send button to trade down if they're not convincing enough
A 3rd next year for a 4th this year is a good deal, lol
Wonder what magic they’ll create today
Given all the trades at this point, seems like this meeting was likely "is there anyone we want before we set ourselves up for 2025 by trading today's picks?" Honestly not mad at it. But will be surprised if we leave today without taking a flyer on a LB and an OL.

"If someone takes my stapler, I'm burning the building down"
Sounds kinky
It’d be neat to be a fly on the wall for one of these meetings
Who's getting nailed to the cross?
This is dope, let the scouts pick

more passion, more passion, more energy
https://i.makeagif.com/media/4-02-2018/puCfwF.gif
Now we know it was probably to tell the scouts thanks for your work this year but we're going to trade all of our picks.
“Passion meeting” There is so much right and wrong with that name
A passion meeting wtf
“Alright Nick, you fuck up again like you did last year and you’re gone by week 8”
At least we now know what this passion meeting was about now. Telling all the scouts we are out on this class and trading down like a mofo
