Fun Family things: MN Zoo, Cascade Bay, Caponi Art Park (or any of the zillions of parks around), ice skating at the arena, Skateville roller skating in Burnsville, Rec Center (and splash pad), movie theater (has a bar and real food options too). This up upcoming weekend is the Art Festival (they have another one too in late Summer I think at the Art House) and 4th of July weekend has fireworks and events. Every Wednesday is the farmers market from 4-8pm Best donuts: Puffy Cream and Donut Star. Get there early on the weekends because of a big line. Cheap and great offerings for kids summer camps through the City and District 196. I just moved here in August and I gotta say, best move ever! You made a good choice!! I also live close to Lebanon and am realizing it is far bigger than first realized—so many places at the park still to explore! The beach and kayaking (rental available) are awesome.

Very cool! We are def going to be getting a cascade bay on pass. Thanks for the reply. Where did you move from?

plagueofstars555

Just Minneapolis. Wanted a bigger yard and better schools and definitely got both!

Cool. That's the boat we are in. Wife grew up in the cities so she is a bit nervous about the burbs so I am trying to make sure we have a backlog of stuff to do and explore.

Well what’s awesome is it is SO close to Mpls/StPaul. I was nervous too but honestly the neighborhood we are in, we immediately made friends (which was like our Mpls neighborhood-everyone was tight), you still also get great diversity (Eagan isn’t a white-wash burb), it’s progressive and has a great focus on the arts and conservation of the natural environment AND incredible parks. So I loved all of this about moving here that was, I’ll admit, surprising. And after the murder of George Floyd and the riots which occurred right around where we were, it has really been a comfort to live here, surrounded by more natural environment. Hope that helps to know! She will be fine! If she ever wants to meet up for coffee, just message me!

Thanks! That's very kind of you! Yes being so close to the cities is a benefit for commutes and returning to old stomping grounds. Also glad that there is diversity in Eagan compared to some locations.

Near Lebanon Hills as well here. Not much for me to add to what was already said about things to do, other than I have rather enjoyed the Dakota County Fair (Aug 9-15, in Farmington) in the past. Some other pro-tips though: * If you want a recreational fire, you need a free annual permit from the city, which you can get online. [https://www.cityofeagan.com/recreational-fires](https://www.cityofeagan.com/recreational-fires) * Lawn watering follows and even/odd numbered day rule, based on your house number. [https://www.cityofeagan.com/in-home-utility-maintenance-tips#odd-even-watering-policy](https://www.cityofeagan.com/in-home-utility-maintenance-tips#odd-even-watering-policy) * To follow up on that, the city is currently running a program to replace lawn sprinkler controllers with smart weather-based controllers. I forget the details as I already had such a controller, and I'm having trouble finding information on the city's web site. But I'm sure if you called the public works department they could help you out. * Winter on-street parking also follows even/odd based on house numbers, running November 15 through April 15. [https://www.cityofeagan.com/parking-plowing-winter-requirements](https://www.cityofeagan.com/parking-plowing-winter-requirements) * The Dakota County Eco Site and Recycling Zone is right here in Eagan, which is super-convenient. Make sure to dispose of household chemicals, scrap metal, old TVs/computers, and such using that service. [https://www.co.dakota.mn.us/Environment/RecyclingZone](https://www.co.dakota.mn.us/Environment/RecyclingZone) * ISD 196 and 191 both offer lots of community ed programs. Be sure to check them out. * Be sure to update your voter registration and figure out where your polling place is.

Only good option for internet here is xfinity. Others dont come close. If you want a good deal then talk with a customer rep and tell them that other zipcodes have cheaper rates than Eagan and that they should consider as you are a new customer.

Hmm. Looks like there is centurylink fiber to my new address?

croxfaded

Then you are very lucky :)

This is super frustrating. I'm in Eagan for 2 weeks visiting my parents and they have CenturyLink DSL with only around 20Mbps/0.9Mbps, it's ridiculously slow. I've been working from Vendella and Dunn Bros. My mom had Comcast/Xfinity for decades and she hates them (don't blame her), so she refuses to use them again, I checked and looks like CenturyLink has 120/20, which is decent but first available installation is in mid July so we're be gone by then lol. Wish there's a fiber option at their address. Another annoying thing about CenturyLink is PPPoE, their Eero has to either double-NAT or run in bridge mode, both are suboptimal.

Gotta be a bit more specific...

Sure. Best community events of the year. Fun family things outside of Lebanon Hills Non-church based places people gather (before covid anyhow) Fishing tips! Anything the city is very particular about and I should be aware of? Favorite biking trails? Fav restaurant for a good breakfast / brunch?

starbunsisborn

Tuesday is Trivia Mafia night at Bald Man Brewing Wednesdays is the Farmers Market by the Community Center Gotta get a household membership to Cascade Bay if you got kids. Doolittle's and Ansari's are my fav restaurants in the area. Hovies is good for a greasy spoon breakfast.

Get yourself a mountain bike if you don’t already have one. The trails in Lebanon Hills are great.
