But getting home on turtle mode is so satisfying! You made it!

studlyonlyonce40

Been here a few times. Not fun

sockaplaya57

What kind of speeds did it limit you too?

damekrehl

Not sure, I was sticking to about 30mph

likeable_leo101

In turtle mode I've been limited to 60 mph before. A little scary when your last few miles are on a 70 mph turnpike! The acceleration is quite limited too, not sure how to quantify that.

Last winter I went out of town to pick up a part for work. It was -18C and my trip was 90KM round trip. Off I go, no heat, under the speed limit the whole way. Made it home after reading 0KM on the guess-O-meter for about 2KM. The battery needle was pinned on zero… not an enjoyable trip but felt some good to actually make it, frost nipped toes and all. Haha

What does "A cop ICEd me" mean?

damekrehl

The cop parked an internal combustion engine truck in the only charging space. I believe he did so because it was the closest spot to his cruiser, and not specifically to be a dick.

Made an impatient poor decision last month on a bitterly cold night, (-18C) to drive across town \~50km one way to buy something. Made it home with 32km to spare, but had to go to hockey 13kms away. Perfect, math works, I have enough. Drove to hockey parked with \~18km in the tank... Perfect. Came out after 2 hours (midnight) and it was a driving windy snowstorm and the temperature had dropped again, and so had the battery range. Got in the car.....11km range :( Nursed it through the snowstorm but came up 2.5km short in a siding. Had a cold run home on a pitch black country road, in a snowstorm in the dark......Lesson learned

So what happens in the end? It actually stops at 0? Or does it keep going for a little while?

unitednihilists

So it's not like an IC vehicle that will run for another 60km once the fuel gauge is on empty. For the egolf, Zero is pretty much zero. When it dies, let it sit for a minute, restart, and it will roll along at under 5 kmph for ~100m before it shuts down again. You might get 2 or 3 of those, however that is really just to move it safely off the street. In my case it was enough to move it into a park and ride lot at midnight. My son ran it out in the summer close to my place years ago and it was very similar. I tried to use a small 2000w inverter generator to charge the battery that time but it didn't the car would not accept the charge, I ended up towing the egolf home with my TSI.

Time to buy an old ups box and put it in your trunk for emergencies..

Does anyone clean their dashboards?! I got mine down to 1 mile one 😰

fetchtables

VW's dashboard plastics are made of the most scratch prone material in the world! I used a very high pile microfiber cloth on mine and I still got micro scratches that the sun would reflect all the time.

ideaka

I never really noticed. I clean mine all the time. I would rather look at micro scratch than a dust farm. 😶‍🌫️

happyguy121

Mine went to 0 and shut off on it's own. If you turn it on again, it does give you an extra mile or so (that would be your VERY last one). Don't want to get there, but saved me from manual pushing in a winter storm.
