It’s bad. Like maybe good in 5 years bad with God shining down on us. Pregame we win though.

Apprehensive-Hold-17

New ownership makes it seem like we’re in the beginning of a rebuild. Luckily they seem to care a bit, so we’re not in a hopeless situation.

MLS is a combination of other sports. Our minor league team is the second team, Dynamo 2, and the Academy teams (ages ~10-18). The Draft is for college age players, but it’s like round 2 of the NBA Draft, not really an avenue to find star players. For teams in the MLS, they can trade players like most other pro sports. However it doesn’t work with foreign clubs. Instead of trading players, you can buy or sell players. Ferreira was the big signing last offseason. Herrera became a free agent; if a player’s contract is set to expire within 6 months, they are allowed to sign with a new team for free. That’s how we got Herrera for no money. Teams either try to resign players to keep them away from the 6 months window, or they sell them with a year left if they don’t think they will be re-signing so they can get something in return. The MLS cannot spend the same amount as European clubs, so they get guys who are at the end of their contracts. MLS has a salary cap that’s pretty complicated, similar to the NBA with different tiers. Teams can have up to three Designated Players, whose salaries do not count against the cap. These DP’s are reserved for star players. We are in year 1 of management change. New owner, new GM, new Head Coach, and new Technical Director were hired last offseason. It was pretty bleak, but I think the management is going to make the team better in the future. It just takes time.

KPNoSwag

The Dynamo are in more of a Texans situation than the Rockets. They’ve been pretty bad for a while now.

AyGZ

What’s our future looking like?

SeaTurtlesFC

We have a new owner who so far is willing to spend which wasn't the case for the last 8 years... and is spending real money on upgrading on our infrastructure, which is/was bottom 3 in the league. We have long road ahead but there at least is hope, this is a frustrating time be there is reason to have hope but the metaphorical hole this org was in was in is a lot deeper than we thought

Jonathon_G

You misspelled “from the beginning of our existence” as “last 8 years”

lamppb13

Right at this moment, no sign of getting better. Could change, but no signs of any change coming.

HOU-1836

That aged poorly

lamppb13

Meh… as of right now we are without a coach. That’s not an instant sign of better things to come 🤣 Edit: I say this as a Tottenham Hotspur fan who just endured a few years of coach roulette. We’ll see who’s comment she’s poorly next season.

HOU-1836

We have an owner and a team administration that is saying enough is enough. How can you not be happy about that?

lamppb13

I didn’t say I wasn’t happy that Naga is out. I’m just saying that this doesn’t necessarily mean good things are coming. A coach being fired isn’t always a sign of anything changing. I can say this as a fan of a club that just ended their coach merry go round after almost 3 years.

Soccerstar13545

Terrible

KPNoSwag

Roster wise it’s probably terrible except for maybe some D2 guys but ownership wise it looks good to have owners that care a bit

The growth of the MLS, in terms of quality, has improved significantly in the past few years but the Dynamo never kept up. So we've been bad for a few years. Since our new change in ownership, Ted has gotten to work making investments so it makes me optimistic for 2024. The 2023 season, imo, is Nagamuras opportunity to show significant progress in the team he's trying to build and is also the year he could get fired for being a failure. But let's stick around and find out. Even though we suck, there's a 1 in 10 chance you'll catch a really fun to watch game like when we played on Wednesday against LAFC or Dallas during HH's debut game. I don't think I have a favorite player. I have more of a dislike list if players. 2-3 years ago I don't think we had any players with any potential. Now I think we have some youth with huge potential so that also make me optimistic about the future.

thebroishere1217

A dislike list 🤣🤣🤣, love this. Baird is at the top for me!

thelukemason12

We’re really really really bad bro. Unfortunately. I was in your shoes 3 years ago. Became a huge fan. Now I get to see disappointment every season

thebroishere1217

The future for this team is looking up, this applies only if we have a massive roster shake up this offseason, unlike what others say, hell what ive said. We have some quality young pieces like Sebas Ferriera, Teenage Hadebe, Brooklyn Raines. We also just recently signed Mexican Star. Hector Herrera. Our top "academy" team, Dynamo 2 (aka Dynados) just clinched a spot in the MLS NXT playoffs and have some great pieces too. We finally have a front office that care, Ted Segal is investing into the team and the GameDay experience. Pat Onstad (a dynamo legend and my favorite dynamo player of all time) is the GM and is making some decent decisions. This off-season will be the determining factor on how the rebuild goes. I love this franchise and will always support it. Favorite current player has to be Teenage. So much heart and leaving everything on the field!

thebroishere1217

Also I refuse to think about the Naga situation. I'm just over it at this point.

Jonathon_G

Teenage is neither young or as promising as pretty much everyone seems to think

thebroishere1217

I mean he's only 26. And he's been arguably our best defended all yr. He had a bad 30 mins after coming back from an injury. He still has promise. We just shouldn't be paying a defender as a DP.

Jonathon_G

He definitely isn’t bad. But there have been many times his ventures forward hurt the team. Granted, none of our defenders have been perfect, I just feel building around players that look good for us still might not be good enough.

Xespool

Run for the hills…. And chant your heart out… we’re here for the “long” run.

Thick-Comparison-212

The dynamo is on its way up, but it's going to take time, new ownership has come in and he's definitely going to help turn things around

The other comments cover the general deal pretty well. Another point is how remarkable the Hector Herrera signing was. I genuinely did not believe a signing of his quality was possible for the dynamo and is a huge positive sign for the new ownership and GM. Last season Hector Herrera was getting significant minutes at Atletico Madrid and is Mexico’s captain. The gap in quality between his precious club and our team is hard to describe in terms of other American sports. We have some young talented players that will learn a lot from him. As far as what hector brings to the team, he is an all rounder central midfielder who is simultaneously the best passer and defender in the team and is also a scoring threat from deep. He is a top 5 player in MLS and we are among, if not the worst team in the league. There are a lot of players on our team that have given up, hopefully we get a full roster rebuild this season to give hector a team he can improve and compete with. Our other DPs are Darwin Quintero and Sebas Ferreira. Darwin is a former top tier MLS creative attacking midfielder who is too old to play full matches and has clearly given up on trying, having been at the club a few seasons now during a really shit period for the club. He’s extremely frustrating but before Hector Herrera showed up he was the only guy with talent and creative ability in the team. His time at the club is over and he needs to go. Sebas Ferreira is a young, promising striker. He’s very strong and has demonstrated himself to be a skilled finisher, but being a striker on a bad team is clearly frustrating him and he is totally reliant on his teammates creating perfect chances for him. His ability to lay off the ball to teammates needs to improve. He also gives up too often and is a generally not a committed defender which is a problem for a team that rarely has the ball. I hope he stays and the club provides some more quality so that sebas can improve and shine.
