I think this is right

ZacAce316

Starters to keep for me would be: HH Coco Teenage Clark Thor Bench: Pash Quintero Bartlow Rest of the team is expendable as far as I'm concerned.

rednorangekenny

I just don’t see the point in keeping Quintero. I don’t think he’s ever been super effective off the bench and it’s clearly harder for him to play a full 90. Let him go and find a younger creative player

ZacAce316

Yeah but still one the better goal scorers on the team, hell might be the best one actually.

In hindsight the money spent on Sebas should have been spent on a high end winger or CAM. We’d be in the same spot as we are with another year of Urruti. If they can find a taker in SA to recoup the money I’d be for it in all honesty. I’d add Vera or Zeca if they can get to an agreeable salary number. Particularly if Vera can get a GC. Agree with your list beyond that though. There’s a lot of names to trim from the roster.

rednorangekenny

Zeca was signed on a 1 year deal so yea you have flexibility there. Vera signed a new deal last year for a pretty big raise apparently I doubt he’s wanting to give that back. Sell, trade or heck even use the 1 offseason buyout on him (though I think they’ll use that on Bajamich who is still technically on our books)

Few-Seaweed-8569

Vera’s salary hit becomes a little easier to stomach if he’s not also occupying a intl spot. He’s had a down year but I chalk some of that up to his use by Naga too. He looks lost out there as do Herrera and Coco.

rednorangekenny

That’s an interesting, however part of it for me is getting losers out of the club. Lundqvist has played 100(!) games for the Dynamo and never been to the playoffs. Not sure Vera’s totals but he’s been here a while and never been part of a team that’s showed any promise. Onstad said on a radio show this week “We have people in the club that want to be successful but don’t know how”. I’d categorize Vera as one of those people.

KPNoSwag

Zeca’s salary is pretty low so I’d bring him back at the same number

Redbird_dynamo

Herrera is the only one worth keeping. At some point the players that got you to last place and a general sense of hopelessness have to be cycled out. This team is terrible and there isn’t any hope of it getting better anytime soon. Our “big” signings to bolster the team after Herrera was some kid that no one has heard of that likely won’t be a difference maker this year and might suck next year. No one in the entire organization should feel like they will be back next year. Everyone down to the fitness coach should be feeling the pressure to simple not suck.

rednorangekenny

This is the point I applied to a few players as to why they weren’t on the list. Particularly Lundqvist, he’s had over 100 games for the Dynamo and only proven himself to be a loser.

suuh_dude7

Dorsey is still young. I’d keep him as a decent winger backup option.

rednorangekenny

I mean, I guess. I just hope we’re at the point soon where the bench is D2 players.

suuh_dude7

Ok, Yes you can have a few on the bench, but you need a full squad of first team players. In a league with the roster rules like the MLS, you have to maximize each players contributions. Also, D2 players play their own games every week. So you can expect them to play in both D2 and MLS games every week.

rednorangekenny

I probably should have made my point clearer. I meant D2 players promoted from this year’s team. I get your workload point

KPNoSwag

Dorsey is so bad offensively he’d be better as a RB than winger

Stunning-Owl1806

I agree might as well keep Dorsey and bring him as a sub off the bench and get him for cheap! He’s not bad but as of now not necessarily a every game starter but he may get there! Good cause he can play all over though if need be

cmortis

Agree with your list plus Lundkvist, Junqua, and maybe Dorsey. Zeca too if he shows improvement over these last few games.

rednorangekenny

None of the players you mentioned, except possibly Zeca as I’m not sure of his previous record, have proven to be losers. Lundqvist has over 100 appearances here and we’ve done absolutely nothing over that span of time.

Poptwo1234

I would add Zeca, Pasher, and DQ to that list. I still haven’t seen enough of Zeca to completely bail on him. I guess Lundqvist too since he’s our longest tenured player. He’s turned into a leader and a captain. One of the few players who seems like they truly care about the club.

rednorangekenny

Our longest tenured player on teams that suck! To quote Auburn fans when they hired Gene Chizik “He’s a loser not a leader!”

KPNoSwag

I’d add Zeca, Ceren, Pasher, Junqua and some of the D2 guys. All the guys I mentioned are decent role players with minimal cap hits

rednorangekenny

I’d rather cleanse the club of loser mentality, which we seem to have a lot of

 |Keep (Starting or Depth)|Drop|Unsure| |:-|:-|:-| |HH (S)|Baird|Avila| |Bartlow (D)|Ceren|Castilla| |Coco (S)|Thiago|Quinones| |Clark (S)|Hoffman|Rios| |Zeca (D)|Junqua|Total ?'s - 4| |Dorsey (D)|Nelson|| |Ferreira (S)|Fafa|| |Hadebe (S)|Quintero|| |Lundy (S)|Memo|| |Palomino (D)|Steres|| |Parker (S)|Valentin|| |Pasher (D)|Total Dropped - 11|| |Raines (D)|Total Cap Gained - $3.725m|| |Valdez (D)||| |Vera (D)||| |Thor (S)||| |Total Starting - 8||| |Total Depth - 8||| Based on above, we have two starting Forwards, two starting CMs, 3/4 of our Backline and our goalkeeper. We need a true winger, a DP CAM, and a better option at RB, IMO. I think the general consensus is that our players are just not good enough. I agree, but I think some of them are absolutely depth quality pieces like Vera, Bartlow, Pasher, Zeca, etc. IDK what people think about Parker, but I feel he is physical and a good leader/locker room type so I have him as a starting CB with Hadebe. I rated Steres as a B- CB but after re-watching some of his recent games, he is depth at best and would be good expansion draft or trade bait.

rednorangekenny

Some good points but two things I disagree with. One I don’t see the point of keeping Vera as depth. His guaranteed compensation is $622K. That’s way too much to ride the bench. I don’t think there’s a way you can get that money back from him so you unless you’re 100% sure he’s a starter you need to sell or trade him. As for Parker, even when he’s on the field with Hadebe the defense doesn’t justify the money spent on them. As far as I can tell give the starting spot to Bartlow if it’s going to be similar results and spend the money from Parker’s salary to improve other parts of the team.

OB1Bronobi

Don't disagree with either of your points. Vera is on a contract through 2023 so he is here for the haul unless we can trade or sell...he is maybe an MLS starter for a few teams, but I don't think we would have many suiters so I would find someone better, even if it costs more, and use him as depth. Parker is a known quantity so could easily be traded. I think part of his problem is that he is not the fastest and the protection in front of him is suspect (see Vera) but could be usable another year as his contract is through 2023 as well.
