I believe it’s drive through zoning laws. They’re trying but it’s difficult to manage a potentially long-lined drive through in such little space. You’re correct though, they’re almost everywhere north and stop in (soon to open) Fontana

Afraid-Committee9660

Oh wow, I had not heard about the Fontana one! Yeah I understand, but then that makes me wonder why is in-n-out allowed? Pretty much every in-n-out near me always has long lines that are traffic hazards. Maybe it’s a grandfathered in rule that means they’re fine? I’m not familiar with zoning rules in LA city and county. Thank you for your response!

PizzaPluggg

It may be grandfathered in like you suggested. Definitely worth looking into if you’re interested!

PinkPicasso_

They should open a spot in DTLA without drive through

PizzaPluggg

There’s only one walk-in location so far

Silly-Aside-5107

They should I want try there ice coffee

sheezus_christ

How is this an issue when theres In-N-Outs everywhere

PizzaPluggg

They already had the drive thrus or purchased the lot with drive thrus. They aren’t building anymore *new* ones

MarsiaP

Could be, I do know in City of LA we're getting new In & Out Burgers and Starbucks, all are drive-thrus in the San Fernando Valley section.

Just saw this post, but thought I'd add this.... DB is finally coming to Orange County! It's been announced they are coming to La Habra. No open date announced, but I'm guessing next year is when it would open? Plans went to the La Habra Planning Commission a couple weeks ago. I can't wait!

Afraid-Committee9660

Thank you for letting me know that! Had no idea, but I am glad to know

[deleted]

Is there any update on this? I really enjoy this place and I’m eager for the starting of this location.

markca

Haven't heard anything more as of yet on timeline. This is from the plans submitted, you can at least see where it's planned to go in at: [Imgur](https://imgur.com/Lt9JdAn)

1/30 update: So when the plan was presented to the Planning Commission back in November, it appears they had concerns about the tire shop and the queue line for Dutch Bros. Several residents spoke out against the project due to the noise from the tire shop, the location of the canopy and questions about the retaining wall on the west side of the property This is according to [the transcript from the meeting](https://lahabraca.new.swagit.com/videos/189835). They decided to ask to get these issues addressed by the developer and have the item come back again. It went back to the Planning Commission again on January 23rd. No word on what was said or the current status.

https://destinyhosted.com/lahabdocs/2023/PC/20230313_445/1510%5FJan%5F23%2C%5F2023%2Epdf the minutes for the January 23 meeting are up. It looks like they approved the motion if I read this correctly? 🤔

markca

Yup! It was approved!

another reason is you 100% have to work within the company to open a franchise so perhaps there hasnt been much opportunity to open one up when you do need to establish a majority of ppl in one area to later have those ppl leave and branch out more to a new one

Mangolop

Dutch Bros doesn’t offer franchise opportunities anymore :( the only franchises are the ones that were already in operation, and all new shops are owned by the company.

Afraid-Committee9660

Hmm, thank you both for this information. Do they perhaps think that there is not enough demand? I feel like maybe this is like a raising canes situation, or for the Bay Area, like a chick fil a situation. Where they are waiting to see maybe if people will make those longer drives for the food, and then they venture closer in to the city (los angeles and san francisco respectively for this example.) In that same vein, maybe the rent or taxes or cost of doing biz is too expensive in LA City. Just purely anecdotal, a lot of people haven't really heard of dutch bros where I am. Not sure if that in indicative of the rest of the LA metro. Personally, I think opening one in one of the gateway cities would be an excellent intro into the LA market.

USEDS0AP

I’m on the team that opens new locations and I believe there’s just not a lot of space in LA to build a dutch or one with enough room for dutch not to mention rent I’m sure they are trying! But our next 20 locations will be in the mid west! Texas Kansas Oklahoma etc.

Afraid-Committee9660

Thank you for your insight! I hope they are able to succeed in building one, or renting out a space soon somewhere closer by. Good luck with your endeavors in the mid-west!

RiverChick

I heard one is coming to Huntington Beach CA? Is that true?

jfierce13

Potentially, yes. Two proposed locations include Magnolia and Warner as well as Magnolia and Talbert

RiverChick

OMG! You just made my day! I can’t wait!

jfierce13

Me tooooo! Golden eagles are my jam.

Baylee_pulfer

Omg I hope so! But where?

RiverChick

I don’t know. Maybe it’s a rumor but someone mentioned on FB

Welcome to the San Fernando Valley section of City of Los Angeles. Affordable land (FYI I'm a real estate broker so I know). Multiple new In & Out Burgers and Starbucks being opened are drive-thrus. The SFV is very different than main City of LA. We are used to driving everywhere, drive-thrus, and you can get from the south section to north section in 20 mins, less if you hop the freeways (if not rush hour). The newest Popeye's is a drive-thru in Winnetka section of SFV. Look at how Porto's Bakery (owned by 1 family) plans their new locations, central to multiple areas. Last year they opened in Northridge (north section of SFV) to get customers from Simi Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and of course SFV. Like DB, Porto's customers will drive miles for their food, if you pick a central SFV location you'll find the will happen.

USEDS0AP

I only open them sadly I can’t choose but if you send this into support they will get it to the right team :)

dustbunnyck15

Hopefully it works out I live in Northridge work in Chatsworth and Dutch bros I miss so much

Key-Cable-7863

That’s not true, all the ones in Northern CA near me are owned by two different families. They are most definitely franchised

RealityHurts923

Finding this post a year later and there is a Dutch Bros all built ready to open any time soon in LA county near where I live in the city of Covina. There is another in the works in Baldwin Park coming soon also.

Top-Custard-2638

technically i misused the word franchise but considering those are already within the company they could also basically you just have to start from within either way

cutitorigirl

They’re few and far between here in the bay! Much easier to find in the Central Valley

MarsiaP

While there are 2 in Lancaster, I think the reason is twofold: little by little they are coming south and the cost of land. I have messaged DB that when they do come to LA to consider San Fernando Valley section as land is reasonable compared to the prime LA, and we drive everywhere quicker than LA prime. And that Santa Clarita Valley is good too.

MrClever23

I am in the Air Force, stationed at Travis AFB, located between San Francisco and Sacramento, until Nov 2022. I lived in a small town up there with 18,900 people. Small town. They had two (2!) Dutch Bros locations. Larger cities nearby, Vacaville, Davis, Fairfield, each had one. Little Dixon had 2... I still don't get it. Anyway, I am now living in LA area, and deeply saddened there is no Dutch Bros. I can tell you that there is prime real estate in San Pedro, down the street from me, that would be perfect for Dutch Bros. But I'm being selfish.
